Alchemist and Barrister is a very popular spot in Princeton. I finally came and was not disappointed. Our waitress Victoria recommended the Short Rib Birria tacos. They were very flavorful and delicious. My friend got the Gnocchi which I felt had a very fresh sauce. Service was great and our Waitress was very attentive to us. You're wandering around Palmer Square and better options are just not floating top of mind so this brand name classic somehow seems palatable. Once more unto the breach. All of the sandwiches and burgers are solid and made with quality ingredients. Place has daily specials--loved the corn beef spring rolls for St. Patty's season. Great food, attentive service, in the heart of Princeton. Try the cheesesteak egg rolls and the AB nachos as an appetizer.

This is a classic Princeton venue. Yes it's sort of overpriced but the charm inside makes it all worthwhile. This is a must visit for a drink at the bar. I haven't dined here for dinner but I'm sure it's good. Nice staff. Just be forewarned that it can get packed. read more

Me and my gf/bff stopped in recently after heading to Triumph Brewery only to discover it wasn't opened yet due to construction. Boo! Anyways, this place was across the street and it was raining so we stopped in here to grab a beer hoping there would be something good on tap and some happy people to look at while enjoying one another's company :) We ordered: - Lakefront Hazy Rabbit Hazy IPA for me(Good) - Downeast Peach/Mango Cider for my gf/bff(Decent) Tbh: Bar vibes are always so different than brewery vibes. It's like you can feel the negative energy as soon you walk into these places. A lot of uptight people with those I'm better than you vibes, but I have a lot of problems so I need to come to places like this to unwind. lol. The location is cool and the place is nice, but the bartenders weren't that friendly or welcoming, yet I left them a nice tip. We were in town for the Art festival. We thought there would be some food vendors, but I guess given that there are so many options in Princeton there wasn't! We walked around a bit and decided on the Alchemist & Barrister, as we hadn't been in years and it was a nice day out and they have one area that is inside but all open to the outside, which was perfect, since it was a little chilly and breezy. We were seated somewhat promptly but sat for an awfully long time before we were greeted. She took our drink order first, even though we were ready to place our food order. After placing the drink order, we waited another 10 or so minutes before getting them. Our server looked like the only one on tables, so I get that, but for a day that was going to have a lot of people in town, I would have had more servers on (there were a ton of runners running around). I ordered the Vault Sweet Potato Ale...I thought it was an odd time of year to have it on the menu, but it is one that I have had at Vault and love. We also ordered Fish and Chips. Our food and drink came out all at once. The fish was way overly battered and probably left in the fryer a little to long. The fries were decent. We were just so hungry at this point we didn't care. I finally took a sip of my beer, and it was so sour. Either it was the wrong beer or it just went bad. We didn't see our server so I just ended up not drinking it. The table next to us was waiting for the server to come over to get their bill to leave. By the time she came over that way, we were done and just ready to leave. It's a shame because we used to enjoy stopping here time to time. read more

The restaurant is located in the busy area of Palmer Square, has a large seating section, a 360° bar area, and plenty of televisions to enjoy that day's game(s). Our server, Victoria, was exceptional and made us comfortable, from start to finish. My Blackened Salmon Sandwich was SO GOOD! The panini bread was soft and I really enjoyed the lemon dill spread. The Mac & Cheese was exceptional and large enough to ask for a take-home container. We enjoyed our meal with cappuccinos and they were delightful. The perfect temperature and thoroughly enjoyed. There is a newer more modern bar in the front of the restaurant (the side facing Witherspoon Street) and the classic style bar in the back. I've been here various times on different days and it always seems to be packed for a place I consider to have mediocre food. With that said, I recently found myself here for dinner. As has been my past experience, the food was a-ok. We both ordered burgers - The Tiger Burger and Turkey Burger. The burgers came with the option of either a salad or french fries. I went with the fries, but my husbands salad looked much better. One of the draws for A&B is its prime location, in the middle of downtown Princeton. Cockroaches. Huge cockroaches. We've eaten here over 100 times but never again. I'm there with my family when i see my brother's and niece's eye go wide. I turn around and there's a cockroach the size of my thumb crawling on the wall by the bathroom. My husband kills it. 5 minutes later, my other niece yells "there's one right near your leg". Another thumb size roach. My husband kills it. We decide to leave. The manager apologizes and covers our appetizer and drinks. I know cockroaches are everywhere but I don't want to see them. Exterminators can keep them at bay. So gross. read more

Just your average bar. It can get busy on certain days, but it's pretty scarce. The crowd is mixed, sometimes it can be very young other times it can be on the elder side, really depends on the day. Stopped in to get some food from the late night menu and also get some drinks. There is not one thing on the menu to accommodate Celiac Disease, for those not familiar with this, it's a Gluten Allergy. They were not willing to do any alternatives to deviate from the menu. I was very disappointed because A&B is such a great place to go when hanging out with friends, especially in Princeton when most everything is closed. We had already ordered 4 drinks, which were $10 - $12.00 a piece only to find out we couldn't eat. read more

Wow, last nights dinner here was wildly disappointing. Our initial server was very sweet and kind until her trainer barreled in and completely ruined the vibe with his horrible attitude problem. The fish and chips came out with the fish being quite burned and the mac and cheese had no flavor at all. I'm always one to give the benefit of the doubt but even when they attempted half hearted service recovery it was insincere and nowhere near enough. Let me start by saying I read a few of the other reviews and it seems like everyone thinks the food is mediocre BUT I think other wise. Given I haven't had every item but I've had a few items. I will not eat bone wings anywhere else but here...don't ask me why, they're just the best in my opinion. I also enjoy going during happy hour for the watermelon rose sangria because you can't beat the $6 price compared to $14 regular price and they taste great! The queso fries were FIRE!!!! And I usually don't enjoy fries with cheese but I said why not (it was happy hour). The nachos were the first item I ever had from here and they were the reason I came back. I've also had their Caesar salad and I didn't think I was going to enjoy it but the fried chickpea were a game changer(I don't have a picture of that but recommend it). I consider myself a regular now. I discovered down east cider here as well and it's great if you don't enjoy beer like me. The music gets better at night and also depends who is there I believe. The carrot cake was AMAZING shout out to the chef or whoever makes it. My partner doesn't really do desserts but loves this and asks every time if they have it as they usually have different options each time. I've invited my family to alchemist and it was just drinks but they had a great time as well. Overall I recommend you give Alchemist and Barrister a try :) read more

Visiting the area from Philadelphia and stopped by as we saw a lot of people eating there. The burger and fries were very good, but definitely overpriced! ($19 for a medium sized burger) We also ordered their pizza ... we had to send it back. I don't know which chef thought that looked anything like a pizza. It was soggy and oily and the dough was inedible. The topping was supposed to be prosciutto? But it looked like fatty uncooked bacon. The waiter was very nice and I could tell he himself knew it was disgusting. A lot of the people eating, just ordered burgers or wings, so based on my experience and what I was observing I wouldn't recommend anything else. read more

I had the Princetonian spicy chicken sandwich. The sandwich had a good flavor and I enjoyed the fries. At $17 I think it was a little pricey. I also had the spicy jalapeño margarita. Came here for a happy hour with a pretty big group of around 9 people. The happy hour special prices were great! I had the white sangria and chicken tenders. A friend got the Buffalo chicken tenders and I definitely recommend those. They weren't too saucy at all but had a really nice kick to them and came with a blue cheese dipping sauce. I was impressed by how quickly our food came considering it was pretty busy for a group our size on a Thursday during happy hour. Will definitely be back for another happy hour soon! read more

The white peach sangria was excellent. It was crisp and sweet and left me wanting more. The service was friendly but a little slow. I took one of my friend's French fries and thought the fries were perfectly seasoned and fried. Both friends enjoyed the meals they ordered. Some of the menu items are a little overpriced in my opinion, but I think overall it's a chill place to hangout with people and it's somewhere I could see myself coming back to. read more

First impressions are everything. I was in Princeton celebrating my birthday and it was early so my friends and I decided to stop in and have a quick drink and an appetizer or so I thought. I was seated right away in their back room where the bar is. A waiter came over and showed us how to upload their menu which was only online. He then proceeded to walk away and didn't come back for over half an hour. All I wanted was to get a drink order in and that didn't happen for some time. I'm not blaming the waiter per say because I think he was overwhelmed. This place was busy and from what I could see there weren't enough waitresses or waiters to go around for all the people that were there. A lot of tables were sitting idle waiting for their check or waiting for their food or service .I was able to get our drinks eventually and they were good, but we left and went someplace else because the service was way to slow. Honestly I really was not impressed with this place. I think there's better places where you can get drinks and food more reasonable and have better service. read more
