Good portions, tasty food! I especially like the salads and the pizzas! The sandwich platters are a great deal!

Got some pizza to go the other day as we were starving and headed to No Worries where their food truck couldn't make it. (Definitely recommend stopping at Mama Rosa's for a pie on your way to the brewery since it's just down the road). A group of us ordered 3 pies - buffalo, veggie, and the Mama Rosa special which had a variety of meats. I only had the buffalo but it was SO good. I can't stand a lame buffalo pizza that's mostly ranch flavored. Mama Rosa's actually laid it on and gave me the flavor I was craving. And then I ate a lot of slices of it. I didn't try the veggie though it was COVERED in broccoli so you better be a broccoli fan (I am not) - each slice weighed no less than 9 pounds. Now, the only reason I took a star off is because they are EXPENSIVE, at least in my opinion. 3 pizzas was $80. We thought our friend made a mistake when he paid, but no, when you look online, the prices listed are either small or medium, not large. Large was about $26 per pie (plus tax). Seems a little steep but we all agreed "at least the pizza was really good." Split between 6 people, it was a reasonable price, but the bill kind of had us gawking at first. read more

Food is pretty greasy and not that good. Ordered fettuccine carbonara which was way too butter and it's supposed to have back in it ~ it had bacon like you'd put on a burger. Steak and cheese sub was dripping w/grease. Salads had slices of tomato (again, like a burger). Just not very good. We've had it a few times but won't be back. read more

I like this little place, food is good and affordable. Portions are good size the best are the pizza And the chicken calzone yummy!

I'd say we order from Mama Rosa's every other week or so. Never been inside, just get it delivered. The salad pizza is amazing. Got a pizza with ricotta and eggplant before also very good. We've tried the Hot American pizza, was rather hot! The Philly Cheese steak pizza was alright too. Gorgonzola salad - not I loooove my gorgonzola, but this salad actually had too much of it on there, never thought I'd ever say that. My boyfriend has tried the Buffalo Chicken salad, looked great. We're Italians and enjoy getting delivery from here. :) read more

A good alternative now that JRoos is closed down for rebuilding. Ordered take-out and the food seemed to be better than most of the local competitors. Was slightly dismayed that they had a $10 minimum to use credit cards, they had several hand-made signs up. Besides sending the message to customers that small sales don't matter, it is a violation of Credit Card Merchant Service Agreements to disallow small sales. Even McDonald's takes CC's for $1 coffee. Order a pizza and garlic bread with cheese. Wish the bread was toasted but it really wasn't. We ordered thru Uber and the food was cold by the time it got to us but not mama rose's fault. I called ahead to make sure they could accommodate my request and the man was very nice on the phone and was able too. I would recommend eating there or grabbing it yourself. read more

Just moved here and still searching for a good pizza place that delivers. Well the search continues as this restaurant can't even get your food to you. Placed an order around 5:20pm and at around 7:00pm I had given up. A dozen phone calls, exact text from Google maps, and talking to 3 different people was all in vain. Delivery driver does not speak English, thus reading a map or following GPS is not on the list either. Lady answering the phone was nice and tried so 2 stars for that, can't recall comment on the food. read more

Mama Rosa's is about a block away from our apartment and though we've been in this close proximity for half a year now, we just tried their food this evening for a filling dinner after playing some tennis. It hit sooo many spots. Delicious! We ordered a simple plain cheese pizza (large, and between my boyfriend and me we demolished this thing - it was so yummy) and picked it up within ten minutes of ordering. It was hot, fresh, and ready quickly. We paid $13 for it which isn't bad, and took it home to enjoy. It was a wonderful concoction of cheesy greasiness, and the crust and sauce were both fantastic! Love how mild the tomato sauce is since it really amplifies the cheesy flavors, and the crust was refreshing to me since I've gotten a little tired of the mostly burnt brick oven pizzas around the New Haven area. We will definitely be returning to Mama Rosa's. The service was friendly and timely, and the food was great within a short distance of home to boot. Next time around I'd like to explore their menu a little more (we're frugal college students so the cheese pizza is our norm) and see what else this adorable hole in the wall has to offer! read more

First thing first. They have Mississippi mud pie on the menu.. order it. Coffee chocolate love hug for your mouth. Made my freaking night. Ordered as follows: white clam pizza with bacon, bow tie with vodka sauce, buffalo wings and fried mozz.. all of it.. every bite delicious. Vodka sauce was light and slightly sweet from the onions.. the wings were breaded but I like that.. and the pizza was thin and properly assorted with happy clams and bacon. But back to the pie.. I want more. We'll be back.. please don't be discouraged by the lack of reviews.. stick to the basics on the menu and it seems like you'll enjoy your meal! read more

So disappointed that it took me 10 years to give this place a shot! I'd been craving a good baked lasagna for a while. Tonight hit the spot! At first look I thought the menu was a little pricey. Well, you definitely get your money's worth...enough for dinner today and lunch tomorrow. One down side is the lack of a kid's menu per se. They do have smaller portions for most of their menu items. Great Italian food - generous portions- have never been able to finish, always enough leftover for another meal. Garlic knots are tasty.

I placed my order online using their website and selected curbside pickup. The directions said to call when you get there. I called when I was outside and a woman said that they were just taking the pie out of the oven and it will be ready. Over 10 minutes later no pizza. I walk inside and tell her that I've been waiting outside for the curbside delivery and she said they don't do that. Bad customer service and they need to update their stinking website. read more

I was greatly impressed during my most recent return visit earlier this week. The Mama Rosa's Eggplant Rollatini (which I highly recommend) was exceptional. The portions are massive and the rollatini contains the eggplant, ham, spinach, chopped onions, mushrooms, tomato chunks, tons of cheese, and the sauce. Just make sure you get the Rosa's Eggplant Rollatini and not the regular one. Again, the meal comes with a nice side of your choice of pasta along with the standard Italian bread, garlic knots, and wine too. The calamari appetizer with the fra diavolo sauce was delectable as usual. The guys work hard here and the quality of the food demonstrates this commitment. The decor is a bit dated, but this place is the best Italian joint I've found in the southern CT area. If you're hesitant to try the place, they have a bunch of coupons that give really good deals. Just check out your local ads or inside the restaurant, where the to-go menus are stored. read more

Went for the first time last week with my BF. We both really enjoyed the food, didn't try any of the drinks. The staff were attentive.

I heard this place closed so I took it off of our list before we got a chance to try it. Turns out it's open (again?) and I'm glad it's back! It's hard to find good New York style pizza around here, probably not surprising since it's outside of New Haven, but this pizza is great! We ordered a 14 inch pizza that turned out to be a 16 inch, not sure if that was a mistake or not. We also got "garlic knuts" (not a typo, they're like grape-sized bread bites) which were kinda meh, tortellini alfredo, and some curly fries. The non-pizza stuff was alright, I want to try more of the menu before passing final judgement, but just the pizza alone is excellent! read more

Mama Rosa's has reopened!! Our prayers have been answered and the food is as good as it ever was! Jose and family still cooking in the kitchen and our favorite servers are still there - Lena, and Renee and the rest of the crew!! Had delicious dinners tonight - Chicken parmagiana - huge and fork tender with plenty of mozzarella over the top! Bowtie pasta in a pink sauce was to die for and I had Jose put some shrimp over the top!! Lastly, chicken marsala with plenty of mushrooms and delicous brown sauce. This was my absolutely most favorite hidden gem local spot. It pains me to say "was" since they closed on January 1st. I really hope they find a way to reopen at a new location. The food was good old homestyle American-Italian classics, well made and absolutely humongous portions enough for you, your spouse, your kids, your neighbor, his wife and kids, the dog, the mailman....you know the size! The service was also fast and very friendly. No complaints there either. In one word... yummy! Super thin pizza, which doesn't lack on the toppings. All of the toppings are fresh. My fiance got a white pizza with shrimp, scallops, calamari, and crabmeat, and he loved it. I am a vegetarian, and went with a cheese pizza with garlic. It was delicious (and I've ordered this from them before with the same level of yumminess). The fried mozzarella is so good. And the marinara sauce served on top is amazing. The delivery service has been perfect both times I have ordered from Mama Rosa's. I can't wait to explore more of their menu! read more

Found this restaurant on the Rewards Network IDINE web site. What a hidden gem ! The staff is always so friendly whether we are dining in or picking up our order. We always get our pizza well-done, but that's how we like it. Their Porto Vello and the Seafood Delight are excellent choices, along with the Philly Cheese Steak, Clams Casino and Vegetarian. Entree dishes are all delicious and so plentiful that you will be taking some home. One last item to mention is that they offer the best Fried Mozzarella by far - no one comes close....their sauce makes all the difference. I chose this place because of the great reviews. Delivery was extremely fast and friendly. Cost, not bad at all for what I ordered which was the fried Seafood combo. Maybe a wrong choice from an Italian restaurant?? The French fries were to die for if you enjoy a greasy fry, YUM!! But the dinner itself was way over cooked. Fish was flavorless and dry. Shrimp and scallops were so over done the scallop was pure rubber. Tartar sauce left something to be desired. I may still try the pizza.. May not be a loss. read more

I was going to give this place two stars but then I decided to give it one only because it's pizza and how can you screw that up. This was by far the worst pizza I've ever had. Dominos was better than this. I order delivery by the time it showed up it was luke warm at best. I've tried another place which is further away and the pizza comes hot. The sausage the pie was disgusting as well. I kept having to spit out tough pieces of sausage. I normally eat three to four slices, I ate one and threw it out! We ordered two small meals via Grubhub. The on-line menu said the meals came with pasta and a side. We ordered one soup and one salad. When my husband went to pick up the meals he was told that he owed $15.00 more than the amount listed on Grubhub because a small meal was really a child's meal and sides were extra. I just had them cater a bachelor party for me. The selection and quality of the food was outstanding. They showed up early and set everything up. Amazing experience! This was our go to spot when we were moving in a couple of years ago.. love the salads . Pizza is good. Chicken parm good too. We've ordered pasta from here twice first time was great 2nd time kinda watered down. Burger platters are huge I order one and my kids split it. This is by far the worst restaurant we have tried in the New Haven area. We ordered for delivery, two orders of fried clam strips and an order of veal marsala. The clam strips were mostly too hard, tasteless breading. The clam strips that we did manage to find were like leather shoelace strips. The french fries were an oily, undercooked mess. The veal marsala was way too fatty with no taste of marsala wine at all. Management was argumentive and not at all willing to try to compensate us for the terrible food. Do not eat at this restaurant...you would be better off at McDonalds. read more
