Fried mozzarella was still frozen in the middle and cold, however the marinara it was served with was delicious and hot. Got a large half cheese half pepperoni and it was GREASY. Like ridiculously greasy. Lacked in flavor, however the crust was cooked correctly which i can appreciate. My fiance had to end up hunting down the waitress to get our check & a box even though we were literally the only table in the restaurant at the time. First time ordering Marco's because Apparently my nephew likes this place, but he's a kid so I should have known better... The pizza was okay. It reminded me of new haven style pizza but it wasn't quite right. They had the thin crust and the slight char but it didn't have that wow flavor. Pepperoni was fine for the kids. Also tried the traditional white Margarita pizza. It was okay. I think the issue was the cheese. Maybe it's the brand or type of cheese they use? I say that because we also ordered salads. The chef salad was ordered without onions but onions were still put in there anyway. Only a little over half was eaten and the rest discarded. I ordered the antipasto salad and it was missing that punch that I usually get from other places . The provolone, salami, pepperoni pinwheels were very mild in flavor. I ate it but didn't necessarily enjoy it. The plus side is that this is one of the few pizza places In Branford where you can order delivery, but I won't be going out of my way to order from here again. 1 waitress for a rainy Saturday afternoon. She was nice but not able to take care of the 6 tables of people properly. Felt bad for her. She brought us cold garlic knots and someone else's chicken fingers and fries, then preceded to give them to the girl next to us after sitting on our table for about 10 minutes. Pizza came out for 2 of us, 20 minutes later we still have no grinders. Half our table is almost done eating and we have no food. Was the pizza good, average at best. But the aggravation of sitting here for 25 minutes without food has been quite frustrating. I'm ready to leave at this point . Will never come back and will not recommend this place to anyone ever based on this awful experience. If the pizza was amazing, which it isn't still wouldn't bring me back here. So many other choices to go, 30 minutes after our kids got pizzas, just got 1 grinder... Second one came about 5 minutes after. I'm thinking these will be amazing we just waited so long for them. I love the option for the online ordering as it is quick and Convenient. The pick up process was smooth and quick as well. As far as the food, we really enjoyed everything we've tried so far. Tried it recently and it's getting worse. $18 for a large cheese ( really a medium in size) and I think they totally changed the pizza that made the place good under the prior owners. Used to be so good... not anymore. Overcooked pizza, dry, bland sauce, slow service. Really a shame the pizza use to be cooked perfectly and they were known for having the best crust. But came here and had a very disappointing experience. In fact, I am giving them a pass on the Caesar Salad I ordered. ***I would suggest skipping salads here - below that top layer of good looking lettuce was lettuce that should not have been served. Also, dressing is a solid MEH.*** But I'm removing the lowest grade because what I came for was the pizza! Marco Pizzeria is serving Napoletano style apizza (AHBEETZ!) made famous in the New Haven, CT region here by Frank & Pepe's (no longer family owned, now just another chain...I don't go). Marco learned his pizza craft working at Frank Pepe back in the day and then opened his own spot in Branford. Look, I don't care what you think. New Haven County is The Pizza Capital if the world. Napletano Apizza is The Best Pizza. Paper thin crust. Cooked at HIGH heat so that crust is cooked all the way through and the edges have traces of "char" on them and big, crispy "bubbles." The dough/crust itself is DELICIOUS and flavorful, even without any toppings. The King of Apizza is The White Clam Pizza. I've eaten Marco's White Clam many times. It is perfection. Plenty of fresh clams garlic, pecorino. Food of The Gods. During Covid, when no one could get anything in Connecticut I could get everything up in Vermont. But my family is all down here. So I would collect up a truckload of paper towels and toilet paper and Lysol and anti- bacterial wipes and bread and bacon etc etc etc and drive down to Greenfield, MA. My brother-in-law, would drive up from Branford and we'd park the trucks back-to-back and move the load over. Pete would bring me a white clam pizza from Marco and I would eat it, cold, in the vehicle on the drive back up to Vermont. And it would still be DELICIOUS!! If you can execute a great White Clam you likely can do anything else with pizza. Last night I ordered a White Shrimp, a Pizza Romana (pureed plum tomatoes, Pecorino Cheese, no Mozzarella) and the Classic Margherita, with red sauce (fresh Mozzarella, fresh sliced tomatoes, fresh basil - comes "white" unless you add the red sauce). All three pizzas were piping hot when I picked them up. I put them in my trunk (my car actually has a trunk) and I could smell them inside the car on the drive to my parents' house. DELICIOUS. If you are at all lactose intolerant (as many of us are...), but you still want the full Apizza experience, order the Pizza Romana. Pecorino is a sheep milk cheese, full of flavor: Delicious and great mouthfeel. Easy to take bites of because nothing "pulls" or slides off. Marco's White Shrimp is pizza perfection: Fresh mozzarella, garlic, and plenty of shrimp that were all cooked perfectly. Which is kind of amazing. It is easy to overcook shrimp and turn them into terrible rubber. It's also easy to use "not great" shrimp. Marco Pizzeria is using excellent shrimp and then turning out an incredibly flavorful pizza with those shrimp. Full Disclosure: I ate 2 slices of the White Shrimp Pizza the day after, cold, directly out of the fridge. Obviously that is a completely different experience than eating the pizza piping hot and fresh from the oven. But I'm here to tell you it's STILL a fantastically delicious experience. As in every bite of cold Shrimp Pizza was just delightful and brought me joy. The ONLY cold pizza I have ever had that experience with is New Haven Style, Napolitano Apizza. The Classic Margherita is basically a delicious, exceptional cheese pizza. Really, really good. Adding the red sauce gives more depth of flavor and the acidity of the tomatoes as a counterpoint to the fresh mozzarella. You can eat in at Marco or order to go. They have completely redone their interior and it is REALY nice: whites and light grays with a beautiful marble counter by the register. HANDS DOWN the best, nicest interior of any pizzeria I've been in in The Shoreline region. The "standard" interior at all these great pizzerias in the New Haven area is "old and tired" (EMPHASIS on old and tired). Marco is the first and only one I know of that has invested in upgrading their interior. I HIGHLY recommend. Single folks take note: Perfect Pizza Date Night spot! Seriously, for those of us out there on The Dating Apps. Marco would be just a perfect, safe, meet up spot for a first date...I'd do it. read more

Our family are big fans of Marco's. It's my kids go to pizza for take out and wife and I love the mash potato. Decided to try the steak/cheese grinder to compare to lomancos and I was pretty disappointed. Very plain, not much steak, tastes like no cheese on it at all, or condiments. I grew up in CT and moved out to CA when I was 24, so every time I return home I crave that New Haven style pizza and always need some Marco Pizza in my life! I recently came here with family and we ordered two pizzas - one was the white with broccoli and chicken (AMAZING) and the other we got half pepperoni, half sausage. Great thin crust pizza. We had the clam, the works, fresh tomato and mozzarella with eggplant. Everything was loaded with fresh and delicious ingredients. The fresh tomato is my favorite here. They use fresh tomatoes made like a tomato salad sliced thin and spread on top of a white cheese crust . They sprinkle fresh basil on top to finished it off. Disappointed to say that after two mistakes on two separate visits (in a row), we will need to find a new regular pizza spot. The first time, we ordered an artichoke pizza and got an anchovy pizza. The staff member who handled that order was reluctant to fix it, because it was a Friday night and they were busy. Ultimately, they were nice enough to refund us. Certain that was a fluke, we decided to get pizza again on a separate occasion. We ordered the broccoli rabe and got florets instead. Not a huge deal, but still annoying, and the restaurant refunded us $2.00 (!!!). Initially, we thought it was a mistake on Slice's part, but now I'm not so sure. One star is sooooo generous. I ordered ONE pizza during an evening this week, called at 5:38. Waited on hold for 5 minutes, and I figured the wait can't be longer than what, 45 minutes until pizza pickup... right?! Wrong. I was told it would be an hour and to come at 6:40. So I do just that, showing up to their ridiculously dumb excuse of a parking lot where I watched as cars struggled to park or get out of their spot because it was so tight. I mean, seriously 2 cars were stuck in their spots for 10 minutes because no one could move, it was grid-lock. HA... All for burnt pizza, moldy cake, and rude customer service. So I decided to park in a separate lot and call to see if my pizza was ready at 6:45. I WAS TOLD TO WAIT ANOTHER 20 MINUTES, AND OFFERED CAKE AS AN INCENTIVE by Jennifer. I was like okay, at least they seem to recognize that they're being inconsiderate and have no perception of their customers' time or needs, right?! Wrong again. I show up at 7 like I was told to, and I stood in line for 40 minutes. YES, UNTIL 7:40, which is 2 hours after I placed my order. I conversed with other people who had ordered around 5:30 and were still waiting, but who cares because Marco's does not rush to get orders out regardless of how much time you waste in their restaurant waiting to get home with dinner. But I digress... I finally at 7:45 pay for my pizza and am given a slice of chocolate cake. Paid full price for a pizza that was burnt, but c'mon what do you expect considering the service. I go to eat the cake later that night, and it is MOLDY. Need I say more? Avoid Marco's at all costs, I would recommend Domino's over this. Shit, I would even recommend Chuck E. Cheese's. Marco's was my favorite for years, I came for every birthday, but I will NOT pay a company to get me sick, waste my time, treat me poorly, not apologize, and so on. If the cake is moldy, I can only imagine the dough, the cheese, the toppings, the sauce, the stuffed breads that sit there to rot in their fridges. It's disgusting and unsanitary. This place is 15 mins from New Haven's best pizza. Go to BAR, go to Modern, go to Hamden's Olde World, it's delicious and not moldy. PLEASE for your own and your family's health and time, go somewhere else and skip Marco's. Unless you like supporting dirty, slow, rude places with moldy ingredients... to each their own.
