First of all, not my favorite place. The staff likes to seat you where THEY want to seat you, and you cant choose another table without getting a sour look from the seater/hostess. Don't expect them to come back and check on you if you choose where you want to sit.! I have also noticed that the buffet food has been dry at times in mid afternoon (leftovers from lunch?) Ok, it's not authentic anything, but they have semi-fresh Americanized-sushi, ice cream w/ the fixins, and those Cantonese egg custard cakes I used to chow on back home in Hong Kong. I like the fact that they keep the place clean, and presentable for the constant stream of guests. They also employ enough wait staff to keep your drink/water cup filled, and the prices are still competitive with other buffet-style restaurants in the area. While I have to say that strawberry syrup on raw bananas are nasty, for a measly $8, there's bound to be something for everyone in your family to eat here. I went with one friend, and my Service dog, when we walked in all employees stared, she sat us but we both could tell she didn't know what to do, or what to say. I got up to get food, from buffet--lady (owner I found out) came to me and said "uh leave the dog at the table" I said "no, he's a service dog for mobility so I'll be taking him with me" She mumbled something and walked away, also we found out awhile later that the owner had 'apologized' to people sitting around us. One customer came to our table, "your dog is so well behaved, I can't believe the way they treated you, he's better than my 4yr old niece". Food is not worth being stared at, questioned (incorrectly) about a service dog, and someone apologizing to other people about my presence. Ps. My Son's Father, took my son there today for lunch. My Son is on a feeding tube!!!!. He can only eat crab ragoon with allot of sauce. And only one at that. He can eat the ice cream. Maybe half scoop. If at that. A G- Tube is a tube that goes into the stomach. Your feed though this tube. If you can't eat by mouth enough to substain life. You have to have a feeding tube to get enough calories to live. He is feed 4x a day. We come to the Mama Gardens because my son, loves his Chinese food ( crab ragoon sauce) and also join eating with the Family. It's apparent that he has cognitive and speech delays. Due to the microcephaly that he was born with. We explain this to the waitresses. That we get charged a child's meal. And if they want to, they can watch and see he doesn't eat hardly anything. In the pay they have only charged child's meal, The lasttwo times we have taken my Son there. We have been charged FULL PRICE. Excellent buffet with numerous choices. Shelton to not only include Chinese but also sushi and a Mongolian grill. There is also a huge salad bar desert line with self serve hard scoop ice creme. It's located on Noland Rd where the old Fudruckers restaurant was. Buffet price are around ten to twelve dollars depending on launch or dinner or whether you're an adult, child, or senior. read more

I've been here a few times. The first couple of times the sushi was pretty good, but last time the sushi looked nothing short of scary here. Even the avocado in it was brown, and the color of the smoked salmon was off, on sushi they put out after we got here. Gross. I'll never go near the sushi here again. Every time I've been here all of the employees were extremely rude, the rudest I've ever experienced at a Chinese buffet, so don't come here if good service matters to you. Other than that, the food was really pretty good! Especially loved the crab rangoon (very generous on the filling), noodles (always fresh looking), and and coconut shrimp (the coconut shrimp is only available during dinner hours, after 4 p.m. or all day Sunday). I know why they give you lots of little napkins, so you can taste then spit out all the food. Out of the huge buffet, I could only eat a few things. Sushi was the worst, loosely rolled, dried rice. I have to admit, I was very scared of going to this buffet...however, they proved me wrong. It is beautiful inside and the food is fresh. It was difficult not to continue getting up to get more food. It was a good surprise, that is for sure. Not to mention, they were playing some really great music :) I will be returning to this establishment more often! read more

It's OK, it's a pretty standard Chinese buffet. Food is hot, and replaced reasonably often on the steam tables. Sushi selection is kinda small, as is the dessert spread. Tables aren't crowded together, so it feels a little more roomy than some other buffets I've visited. The Guy likes it, but he can power through more teriyaki chicken skewers than any human ought to. read more

This was a wonderful buffet for the $10ish dinner price. Our family showed up at 7:45, which can be iffy when you go to a new buffet but we weren't disappointed at all. All the food we are was good, except the shrimp in a stick was cold so we didn't eat that. They had A LOT of stuff to choose from including different fish like salmon, catfish, and tilapia. The also had decent sushi and a nice hibachi. The restrooms were clean and the staff was nice. I'm going to remember this place for future trips to this neighborhood. read more

This is our new go to Chinese buffet. The restaurant was clean, and the server kept up with our drinks. The food was delicious and fresh. I loved the coconut shrimp! They have the usual buffet food, plus several different items most other Chinese buffets don't have. read more

Something for everyone! We went after my daughter took my son and he wouldn't stop talking about how good it was, and he doesn't really like Chinese food! My family and I love Chinese food and especially buffets. The inside of MaMa Garden is really nice. The staff was pretty good at making sure our table was clear and drinks were filled. However, it's like they are riding the magazine ranking of 8th a little bit too much. I'm not sure if that got to their head and they stopped trying or what. The variety was just alright. The egg rolls and sweet & sour chicken were pretty amazing. I'm not sure how this place got ranked especially when there are better Chinese buffets in Kansas City. We probably won't be backed just based on the food. read more

The food is great, the staff is pissing me off. If I order buffet to go, give me my container, let me fill it up and leave. I don't want you opening it up to see what I have, its none of your business and quite rude. You have your charge posted, nowhere does it say, Sushi extra, soup extra, so what are you doing looking in my stuff. I will continue to go to the other locatiion, they aren't rude!! While the photograph from Lei C. looks amazing, I didn't see anything of the sort when I went yesterday. on 8/9/2015 I decided to try this place out... and I was severely NOT impressed. I had a variety of sushi (in fact, 2 of everything they had to offer) and a few plates of the buffet variety (honey chicken, spicy chicken, etc) and I was very upset. Everything seems to have a bit of "spice" in it. The only way I can describe it is that a chef used the same gloves to prepare and touch every dish. The Crab Meat was so heavily seasoned with spices that I couldn't taste the meat at all (and so, what's the point?) The sushi was bland at best, and all the pieces were smashed together without care. What DID have flavor tasted badly, again having a "spice" taste added (sushi should NOT have that) The crab rangoon were sweet, and the fried rice were made well, however I cannot recommend going to a place simply for those. There WAS a large salad buffet area, however it was extremely messy and Cross Contaminated with other bits of "salad buffet" options. For the price, I would simply say drive a little further to Blue Springs and go to Legend of Asia instead. Much better selection, variety, and the dishes all taste separate. MaMa Garden tends to feel like it's "Mexi-Chinese" - so if you ENJOY Mexican food (typically spicy) then this Chinese place is probably going to be alright for you, however if your wanting GOOD sushi, I would advice going to the before mentioned LoA instead. read more

I should have known from the scarce parking lot. This used to be my favorite chinese buffet in all of the metro but they seemed to have gone downhill in the past few years. The general tsos chicken was cold, egg rolls were cold, sweet and sour chicken was cold, you name it... it was cold. The shrimp skewers were like chewing on a big kindergarten class size rubber eraser tip. The only delight was the steamed rice. Yea its bland but it was tasty and solid. Cant really mess up rice that is made and stored in a rice cooker. Service was, just, okay. The recent health code violations do not help their reputation either. Too bad. My girlfriend and her friend had the sushi which was very good. I have had their sushi before. It's okay, but not much variety since I am more of a sashimi and nigiri type of sushi person. The hibachi is good as well but once I had the hot chinese bar, I was not in the mood.
