My friend was in town from Austin and had an admittedly rather large group of us (like 9-10 people) walk-in to Mama Delia for drinks and apps to catch up. The Mama Delia crew was super, super helpful and appreciated for grabbing our group a table in the back and allowing us to just kind of show up during Happy Hour and take over the space. I ended up ordering a like Earl Grey Tea + vodka cocktail off the menu, and this one came with peppercorns, I loved it!! Order it, it's super unique and obviously crafted by a mixologist. Had a rez for a party of 7 at 9pm on NYE. when we arrived, they told us it was going to be a 40 minute wait. I was not thrilled. However something changed and we were able to be seated only 10 min after our reservation time. What the heck is the point of a reservation if it doesn't actually secure you a table? I watched our server spend 10 min catering to the table next to us, but we couldn't even flag him down to get more water. Food came out fresh and most dishes were well prepared. Back of house earns 5/5 for this visit. Front of house earned 1/5, so 3/5 feels pretty generous. What a breathtaking establishment. I was completely blown away. It's like you stepped into a romantic town in a movie for a bite to eat. The menu did not disappoint. It was a perfectly mixed drink. I then had the patatas which was a burst of flavor in my mouth. The aioli sauce on top was so tasty. The gilda was okay. It has a very rich and salty flavor. One of my favorite spots to hitup in Wicker Park...no matter the season. I've sat on the very nice patio in summer and inside during cold winters. I also love that its downstairs from one of my favorite cocktail lounges, Bordel. Great Spanish tapas going on here and I've never had a bad meal at Mama Delia. Some highlights are: Arroz Negro (Squid ink paella) Get it! Datiles De La Mancha (Goat Cheese Smoked Dates w/fig & bacon) Jamon Ibericos Cinco Jotas Crispy Sunchokes Presa Drinks are awesome as well. Hi! Had a really awful experience where I didn't feel safe or accepted by my server. I had visited Mama Delia with several others. We had a relatively large party which I know can be a pain but the service we received was unacceptable. We had ordered only drinks and small plates and she treated us as though she did not want us there at all. We received several eye rolls and the rude tone was the perfect way to ruin our evening. We walked in a few weeks ago and I still haven't forgotten the kind service we received. Since there were no tables available we sat at the bar and realized they were in a team meeting before the busy rush. Came here for restaurant week on a Saturday night at 9pm. It's street parking so better to take an Uber or park in a garage. The restaurant was interesting. We checked in at the front then was brought up through a flight of stairs. The vibe and decorations gave off a very homey feel. We started off with some drinks and the drinks were all very tasty. We came for the pre fixed dinner menu so we got to pick 2 starters, 1 entre and 1 dessert. We couldn't believe that they ran out of the croquettes! It was sad that we couldn't order it, since everyone raves about it. We got the peppers, sardines and the jamon platter to start off. Then we got the pork cheek and the shrimp dish as the entree. The pork cheek dish was super good! We also ordered a paella (squid ink). That was delicious! We then got the 2 desserts. My favorite part of this place was the atmosphere. I really enjoyed the mosaic tile, cushy seating, and warm ambiance. The stuffed dates were my favorite dish. Got a reservation within a day for an early Saturday evening dinner. Traffic had us running late, and with a quick call, we were easily accommodated for a later arrival. Shout out to the staff for actually answering the phone which is increasingly rare for restaurants. On arrival, talk about drama. It was night time, so the darkness added effect to the leopard patterned stairway lined in evergreen as we were ushered up to the third floor botanical room. It was as if we walked into a grown and sexy Rainforest Cafe. Note, the stairway is steep and narrow which could be a challenge for those with walking difficulties. That said, my wife described it as "really cute." Wait staff was friendly and attentive, especially considering it was early evening. Attentiveness waned as the night progressed and restaurant filled. The food? We had croquettes (decent), carrots (very good), octopus (atypical preparation, but good) and seafood paella (flavorful, too little seafood and salty, especially for the price). We commented about the paella and they removed it from our bill. Oh, and a couple tequila based old fashioned cocktails were actually very nice - touch of sweet, mild smokiness and light bodied. We didn't do wine, but the list looked extensive enough to enjoy some Spanish selections. As we were leaving, curiosity got the best of us, so we poked our heads into the second floor with a mysteriously closed door. Oh my goodness, this red room lounge is a vibe! I adore Mama Delia! I've been here multiple times on dates with my husband and a few times for girls nights. The food is always delicious, tapas style so I recommend ordering a few plates for the table and sharing. The ambiance is lovely, it's very cozy with dim lighting and beautiful plants and fun pink decor. And the service is fantastic, they are always knowledgeable and able to make recommendations about what to order or what wine pairs well with dishes. We had resys for a Friday evening and opted to sit outside. After 15 minutes it became clear that it was getting cold and they were kind enough to let us switch inside. It's a more intimate vibe inside than expected as I was afraid we wouldn't be able to carry a conversation. No issues! The night we went they had changed the menus. Our servers were less familiar with the wine list and dishes, unfortunately. We ordered the octopus, anchovies, and shishito peppers to start with the monkfish paella as our shared main. The timing of the dishes were perfect given the paella required 40 minutes. The anchovies were delightful coming with toasted bread to complement the tomato base well. The octopus was grilled nicely and heavier than anticipated in a good way. The shishito peppers were delightful, hard to make it a poor choice. The monkfish paella wasn't our favorite. The rice wasn't there, a bit harder than expected. One drawback of the drink menu is that it wasn't clear what was red vs white wine and where they split. We surly followed her suggestion and ended up taking 2/3 of the food back. If all the food came at the same time, we would've needed a table 3 times bigger. TLDR: The atmosphere is cute, but service was slow and the food was not worth the money. Expect your steak to be undercooked. Honestly, we only wanted to try Mama Delia because the pink storefront and patio setup looked so cute. We arrived with no reservation at around 7:20pm, and plenty of tables were open both inside and outside. Even though the place wasn't busy, it took a while before our server got to us. First, we ordered a cocktail and needed more time to get the food sorted out - not that much time, really. We were ready within 5 minutes after more time with the menu. We certainly didn't expect to be ignored for the next TEN minutes when, again, it wasn't busy. It would have been nice to be made aware upon sitting down that certain items on the menu were out for the day - specifically 2 of their paellas and the french fries. No french fries! Never have I ever been to a restaurant that ran out of french fries. The reasoning for this was because, apparently, their summer menu has limited stock (?) ALAS, we had an entire 15 minutes with the menu just to be told what we decided was no longer an option. (Cocktail) Bordel's World Famous Spanish Coffee: This took 25 minutes to get to our table. Their excuse was that a new pot of coffee had to be brewed, but really? Twenty-five minutes! Escalivada Flatbread: This came out looking more like a pizza than expected. It was quite good but could use more cheese in my opinion. It does have onion if you're averse to those. Shishito Peppers: These tasted quite salty in a good way because I like salty things. If you don't like salty things, be aware of that! I would not pay $12 again for them though. Eating these reminded me somewhat of an edamame experience--except edamame has more substance. Chuleton: Note that this takes 40 minutes to prepare - we were warned of this, thankfully. We asked for medium and got something more medium rare bordering on rare in some cuts. The 32oz was enough to feed 2 people, and it could even feed 3. (4 might be pushing it) I was really disappointed with how our dining experience went. Mama Delia gets points for presentation and decor, but the service was seriously lacking in addition to the wait times for the appetizer and peppers. Our starters came out roughly at the same time, but it was still about a 15-20 minute wait. All in all, we spent 1.5 hours here, and actually eating the food was 1/3 of that. We came here for a Bachelorette party and were really disappointed in the experience. My friends ordered the dates and lamb, the dish was about 90% dates with just a few pieces of meat. One of the dishes in our party was forgotten and they didn't bring a replacement out until every one else had finished eating. It was very hard to flag down a server. The Flamenquin I ordered was ok and we did like the shishito peppers and croquetas. The upstairs seating area where they placed us was freezing and they were unable to get it any warmer. I also felt we received such warm treatment from all the staff! They have a range of small traditional tapas plates, modern ones, and big entrees like meats and paellas. Loved everything that I tried below. Amontillado Old Fashioned: Just a few ingredients that came together really well. I would recommend! Bocadillo de Sobresada: Chorizo spread layered with goat cheese on thin bread. Great flavor combination. Tacos de Pescado: Fish tacos on a thicker tortilla (almost like a tostada) which held up so well under the thick filet and huge pile of dill/cilantro on top (I love dill so this was fantastic). Pulpo a La Plancha: Octopus with duck fat potatoes. It was recommended we mix it all together and it was amazing. This is a beautiful restaurant with a modern elegant design. Ask for a table all the way upstairs ( warning - a lot of stairs! ) where the decor is on point. The service was good and the drinks and food were great. I would describe the cuisine as modern Spanish with some Portuguese influence. The menu is set up to share items. It was recommended we share about 6 appetizers and 3 entrees. That would have been a little too much in my opinion. I had to knock a star off as the prices at this restaurant are insanely high. Like not -worth-it- high despite a very good meal. The menu can only be read via QR code and therefore somehow I wasn't really paying attention to the prices of each dish we ordered. Here is what we ordered and my opinion of each dish: Coca De Jamon Con Tomate- Very Good/ Almost Excellent Croquetas- Excellent Atún - Very good / Almost Excellent Head on Prawns ( skip that one- not memorable) Pulpo Canario- Excellent We also had a salad that was fine/ good ( but not memorable) We finished the entree portion of the meal with some dish whose name I can't recall which was a pan of noodles served in a skillet topped with duck. It was very flavorful and delicious However, turned out to be 117$ yep. you read that correctly. Had I seen that price on the menu I would have kindly suggested to our party to skip that one. 2 desserts were yummy but forgettable so frankly I'd skip those and instead check out the cool Italian ice stand we spotted about 50 feet east of the restaurant. Overall, we had a great time and a very lovely meal with some excellent food and service .That said, unfortunately there is zero way I'll be back as the bill was almost 600$ for our party of 4. You're greeted when you walk in by the staff but the place itself is mesmerizing. The patterns, the colors, the lightening. It's definitely a wow factor. My server was great at recommending options from liquor selections to the food we were going to eat. My mentor and I started off with the PULPO CANARIO which is a tapas octopus dish. Super small so I'm not sure how this is shareable but the flavors?!? Impeccable. Unmatched. Next, we had the ARROZ NEGRO which is like the traditional option to get. We ordered jamon and queso, langostinos, sangria, croquetas, and plant based chorizo bocadillo! The stand-out item was definitely the plant based chorizo bocadillo. It was leagues above any soyrizo I've had before, with a touch of sweetness and acidity from what tasted like sun dried tomatoes and their onion confit. The bread was super crunchy and fresh. My coworker was raving about the food and as always, when I come to a small plate style restaurant, I like try several dishes. We ordered the Croquetas, DÁTILES DE LA MANCHA, Mama's Flatbread, Vieras XO, and Paella Valenciana. The Dates and the Paella dishes were my favorite. The Dates were stuffed with goat cheese and had pieces of lamb belly. The addition of the Pisto manchego and sherry vinegar made the more flavorful but the sweetness of the date makes the dish makes for a great combination. I'd definitely recommend going here for an afterwork dinner and drinks, date night, or a pregame before going out dancing! read more

Half an hour later a different server brought us duplicates of the food we had already received. After far too long we eventually got everything, but then they charged an automatic 18% "gratuity," which was pretty insulting for a two top with such poor service. Ordered the red pomegranate sangria to drink, which came in a bottle and served in a glass with some ice cubes with an orange garnish. Nice ambiance. They have bar seating on the first level as well as an outdoor patio. We were seated on the second floor. It was an intimate space with about 8 tables. The food was fine, nothing really stood out to us. We were looking forward to ordering the mussels but unfortunately it wasn't available. We ended up ordering the coca de jamon con tomate - basically a flat bread with tomatoes, jamon, and cheese. It was tasty but not worth $29. The server spoke really highly about the tomato salad and it was quite underwhelming. Came with 5 pieces of heirloom tomatoes, 4 tiny mussels, and some smoked grapes. Along with this we got the octopus and this "open face sandwich" which literally was like a piece of cracker with some mackerel fish on it and tomatoes. I went to Mama Delia with a group of friends for a dinner out. We were seated upstairs on the third floor near the window. The view from up here was fantastic. However, there were only three chairs set at the table when they sat us and we had to find our own fourth chair and squeeze into the space. Our server was generally good, but overall the service was slow. It took some time for drinks to get out and for our server to check-in. Additionally, they did not inform us that the scallops only come with two pieces and instead charged us for two dishes since we had four people. While I appreciate the gesture of wanting us all to have one, this is a simple confirmation with the table that they indeed want two orders, rather than assuming. When we raised the issue when our check came, they offered no resolution -- quite disappointing. The food itself was fantastic. There were many unique combinations of flavors and ingredients that I hadn't seen or tasted before. The standout dish was the scallops. While the flatbread was recommended, I personally wish we had skipped it. There was nothing remarkable about it and it was more bread than toppings. All in all, it was a good dining experience and a great place to try with a small group. I was disappointed about the additional dish being added to our order without our consent and with the pace of service. Hopefully, these can both be fixed before a return visit. The 3.5% restaurant surcharge, however, needs to end. Inflation has happened, COVID has happened, build this increase into your prices -- it's getting excessive. read more
