Had several friends recommend MaMa CiTa's and just now got around to trying them out. I ordered the shrimp street tacos and my husband ordered the Big MaMa Burrito. We both loved our meals. To top everything off, we ordered the churro dessert. Let me be honest, I was completely against ordering this because I've never liked desserts at Mexican restaurants but friends strongly recommended this too. I'm soooo glad I got it. DELISH!!! I can't say this is just like any other Mexican restaurant because it's not. They have their own spin on just about every dish. We ate here last week with some family that we go out with once a year. This place was decorated really nice on the inside. The staff was very helpful and friendly. We were waited on promptly and our waitress answered all of the questions everyone had about the food / drinks. Our food came out at a good pace, was hot, and had great flavor. I loved this place! I have been to (literally) every Mexican restaurant in Osage beach/Eldon/Jeff and this one is the best! 1) The salsa is good (comparable to most other authentic restaurants in the area) and the chips came out hot. 2) The spicy salsa is REALLY good. It tastes like they charred peppers and put it in there so it has this smokey flavor. Pro tip: I mixed mine in with the house salsa and it was the perfect salsa combo. 3) The fish tacos were basically perfect. They actually brown the outside of the tortilla so you're not eating raw flour tortilla and the fish was so light and crispy. I also appreciate that they used both green and red cabbage in it. It was very tasty! 4) The carnitas taco was SO GOOD (like the best taco I've ever had and I've had a lot of tacos). It was honestly the star. The meat was juicy, tender, and really flavorful. I highly recommend everyone who goes here try it! 5) I didn't try my husband's burrito but he said it was really good (he didn't care for the queso on top though) and it is honestly massive with a lot of meat inside. 6) Our waitress was really good! She checked on us at all the right times and was very polite and super attentive to refilling drinks, and refilling the chips and salsa. Great experience! This would have been a 4 star visit for me. And while this sounds like I'm "cheap", it's really more about the principal of it. If you're going to advertise a Special at $10.99 then I expect to pay $10.99. Please see receipts and Sunday's date. Sunday's are $10.99 Fajitas. My bill was $13.99 I politely pointed it out to me server, because was truly very kind and gracious, and great service. She brought back a bill with $11.99. Ok.... it's a dollar tight. But why such trouble billing the right price if it's the daily special printed in the regular menu? The Fajits were good, but not great. The frozen margarita was good too. I'm kind of on a fence for Mama Cita's. They try hard. which I attribute to the owner's attention to detail, so I'm a fan. My wife and daughter, not so much. We have visited twice, the first time shortly after they opened. There were three of us drinking and we polished off two of the margarita towers, then drove home with no issues. We were watching the hockey game, so it was a couple of hours. Still, I am thinking they weren't very strong. The standout menu item based on my tastings, are the carnitas. They were excellent. The chiles rellenos were also very good. Everyone here was attentive and friendly. As I said, the wife and daughter aren't big fans, probably because nothing really stood out as excellent for them. If I could rate it with no stars I would. Holy cow guys it was horrendous! The rice tasted like shrimp, the beans tasted like they came out of a pan that had burnt beans at the bottom. We had to pay $51 and it was disgusting I would never eat there again. I only took a couple bites and the rest was waisted.the picture shows you what was left of my meal. This place is awesome! We come from a city that has a lot of Hispanic food but on vacation here (at the Lake in the Ozarks , MO) I was shocked to find such a wonderful restaurant! The steak fajita was the best I've ever had! I had to try the coconut margarita & it was fantastic! My husband even loved his strawberry margaritas, taco salad and his soft ground beef taco! I love Mama Cita's in Osage Beach for so many reasons -- great food, great drinks, and great atmosphere, but what prompted me to write this review is a recent waitress we had who was AMAZING!! Her name is Ari (Araceli Virgen), and I just really wanted to bless her, so that's the reason for this review. Good service is SO hard to find at Lake of the Ozarks because help is so short, but Ari makes the wonderful experience at Mama Cita's ALL the better. Clean, well designed spot with wonderful wait staff. Hubby and I tried it for lunch and had the house chips and ordered guacamole. It was fresh and flavorful. We both got a chicken quesadilla for an entree. It was delicious, with the black beans inside, as well as a creamy quest on top. read more

So if you're into Americanized Mexican food this place is for you! Tasty food just had no spice at all and I guess they tailor the menu to the hillbilly clientele so I guess I can't blame them. If you're from Southern Illinois, Missouri, Arkansas, Iowa or Kansas you'll enjoy this place. For those of us that know what real authentic Mexican food is just get drunk and hit the Taco Bell drive thru...same experience. If you like the vinegar based jarred salsa from the grocery store like old El Paso, Chi Chi's, Pace or similar, again Mama Cita's is for you.
