Breakfast was amazing! There are no complaints to give. Just expect a lengthy wait, for my family of five's meals, we wait 40-45 mins. They actually got so busy, so some orders got mixed up, they chose to give us extra food for the trouble. We placed a to-go order, there wasn't much waiting room however, the manager was very accommodating and constantly checked on us. We ordered the French toast, scrambled eggs, fried eggs, hash brown, The Nashville Hot Chicken which comes with Mac-n-Cheese (MUST TRY), smoothies and ice coffee. A nice cafe close to the beach? Well, we found one that is vegetarian friendly. Lots of good options from pancakes, waffles, avocado toast and many more. We saw some good ratings and gave this place a shot and we weren't disappointed. We were greeted by a friendly and welcoming staff who helped us make the right selection. As my wife was fasting, she went with a small fruit bowl, my son chose shortstack pancakes, and I tried the veggie hash. The fruit bowl was decorated well and had plenty of variety. From blueberries, strawberries, kiwi, watermelons, apples, bananas, and others, all the fruits were fresh and perfectly ripe. The pancakes were very large and just one would have been more than enough for two people it seems but they even added berries for my son on them. The veggie hash had lots of potential. It was cooked well, however, lacked seasoning. It seemed slightly bland and I had to utilize ketchup to give it some identity. However, the quality and variety of veggies inside was great. I wanted a quick breakfast during my recent stay in Ocean City and this place came up on Yelp - looked like a cute little diner feel, so I went with it. It was off-season, so I was able to park right across from the restaurant. The exterior and interior are very tropical-kitschy, and it gives off a family-friendly vacay feel. Service was fast and very friendly. I was feeling like a solid breakfast sandwich, so I ordered the RVD. I'm not crazy about everything bagels, so I asked to replace it with a plain one. So - this was a tough one. The bagel wasn't very good - kind of on par with a store bought Thomas Bagel, and then the sandwich was hard to eat. Everything was falling out. Too much egg falling out, too much sauce squishing out. Avocado trying to escape with each bite. I guess some folks like that since it was a lot of food for the price, but I like my sandwiches portioned so I can eat them without ending up wearing them. The sandwich also came with hash browns - which were a little too crispy for my taste. Overall, it was okay - but nothing I'd be jumping to return to next time I'm in town. read more

Racially Discriminatory and Deeply Disappointing Experience - Will Never Return I had a terrible dining experience at Malia's that I feel obligated to share, especially for other Black families and people of color who might consider visiting. I came with a group of five African-American adults and children. We politely waited outside, as instructed, while the restaurant "waited for tables to open." During this time, a white family of five arrived and spoke with the host. We overheard their entire exchange. Like us, they requested outdoor seating. The host told them there would be a wait, but PROMISED them the next available table outside, even pointing out which one. I approached the host for clarification after the white family left, and she quickly became agitated and defensive--but eventually said we'd be seated next. As we continued to wait, I noticed a four-top table open outside. Since we had three adults, one teen, and a young child (who could easily squeeze in), I politely asked if we could take that spot. First she said no, but then checked with the owner, who told us absolutely not--saying that area was a walkway that could not be blocked under disability law. I accepted this and we agreed to take a table inside. While sitting INSIDE by the window, I watched in real time as the same OUTDOOR table--supposedly off-limits to larger parties--was given to another white family of five! The same owner who denied us came out and graciously seated them, arranging a young child's chair in the "walkway" area that, for us, was supposedly a legal issue. When I respectfully asked the owner to clarify why that table could now be used, his justification was, "they had young kids." So did we. When I said I'd like to move outside, he brushed me off, saying it was busy and he "didn't have time right now." At that point, it was clear: Black and brown families are NOT welcome here outside, and exceptions are made ONLY for white guests. We decided to leave, and I calmly informed the hostess of our experience. She seemed embarrassed and admitted she didn't know why rules were different for us--she even said, "If I were you, I'd leave too." As we left, the owner smirked and said "adios," confirming the utter lack of hospitality or basic respect. We also saw an Indian family turned away ("no space"), when smaller white parties were being accommodated. The pattern was very clear: certain guests are prioritized, coddled, and granted "exceptions" while people of color are made to wait, denied, and dismissed. If you value equal treatment, dignity, and a welcoming environment, do NOT support Malia's until they address these ongoing, blatant incidents of racial bias. The location is beautiful, but no atmosphere can make up for discriminatory policies and disrespectful management. Absolutely will not return. read more

Hubby ordered the breakfast sandwich twice, which he liked. He also appreciated that they have iced coffee on the menu. Between the two visits, I tried the eggs, french toast, pancakes, and fruit bowl. Everything was delicious! If I had to choose, the french toast and the fruit bowl were the favorites! This place is adorable! Decorated with beachy vibes and mermaids and filled with the delicious aroma of fresh food. My husband ordered the crab omelet, my son got some eggs and toast, my daughter got the French toast with strawberries, my mother in law ordered the spinach and feta omelet, and I got the avocado toast. The crab omelet was stuffed with a crab filling and topped with lump crab, making a delicious omelet! He got a side of scrapple, which I had never tried before. Wow! It was delicious! The French toast was light and fluffy and there was so much ripe, juicy strawberry slices on top! My mother in law's omelet was stuffed with just the right about of feta and spinach. My son's breakfast must have been good because it was gone before I knew it! Lol My avocado toast was different, but good. It comes with hummus spread on it, which gives it a twist. I had to add a touch of salt, but it was still very yummy. The service was excellent. She was friendly and prompt. We were greeted by our server and a couple mins later. She took our order of crab omelette with wheat bread, steak and eggs over easy with white bread, coffee, OJ. Their coffee is bold, which I love. We finished both of our entrees! Definitely get the crab omelette. It was super creamy, not too salty, I love the sprinkle of old bay and that it's topped with a good serving of avocado. Malia's Cafe is a breakfast and lunch cafe that opened in Ocean City, Maryland in May 2011. It was founded by restaurateur Malia Ricks. The cafe is located on the ground floor underneath the Spinnaker Hotel. The space was previously home to the Spinnaker Cafe and Mad Hatter's Cafe. Ricks was one of the original owners of the latter. She was born in Hawaii but grew up in California before relocating to Ocean City. She spent a lot of time in the kitchen while growing up and soon developed a passion for cooking. With her latest business venture, she brings consumers a wide range of healthy breakfast and lunch items with several vegetarian and vegan options. Nearly everything is made from scratch, using fresh and locally sourced ingredients. Some of the menu staples include omelettes, pancakes, waffles, sandwiches, wraps, salads and various appetizers. My family and I recently visited Malia's Cafe while we were on an East Coast Road Trip. While exploring the boardwalk area, we got hungry for lunch. I looked on the Yelp app to see what was good nearby and Malia's Cafe come up as a result. We walked over and asked to be seated outside. After looking over the menu, my wife and I decided to order and share some Mediterranean staples: Falafel in a Pita and the Greek Salad with Grilled Chicken on top. Not only were both dishes delicious but also very fresh tasting. We also really loved the interior of Malia's which featured beautiful hand-painted wall murals that enhanced their beach café ambiance. Stopped here on a Thursday morning before heading out of town. Known for their breakfast, we sat outside and looked over the menu. I had an epiphany during this trip to get a specialty item when getting breakfast - bc anyone can fry an egg - but the specialty items is what separates places. So I went with the crab omelette and a coffee. The omelette was a bit small - filled with crab dip as advertised and topped with crab and avocado. The meal came with hashbrowns and toast. The taste was very good though - I thought the flavor was very good. The hashbrowns were the standard shreds grilled into a form. In terms of service they didn't seem particularly busy yet my coffee wasn't filled until the end of the meal. Would have been nice to have more of an attentiveness with the service. Would recommend for breakfast as one of the options that stands out from the normal and boring. read more

Absolutely fantastic experience 3x in a row here at Malia's while on vacation in early October at Ocean City, MD. My girlfriend and I tried the breakfast burrito and Belgian waffle and bagel egg, cheese, and sausage sandwich as well as the oatmeal with fruit. Me and my family went on the weekend and it was really good! Inside seating was full (pretty early in the day too, surprisingly) so we ate outside. It was a little chilly so they offered blankets if we needed any. Some of my family ordered cream chipped beef but because of the nature of the dish it gets cold quickly which wasn't ideal for being outside, but that wasn't any problem with the food itself. Went here this morning for breakfast. They have quite a lot of tables outside, helpful in pandemic times. Our server was a young gentleman, but not genuinely friendly or attentive; he would disappear at times. We asked for extra butter for our toast, and he said "the toast is pre-buttered". I felt like saying, "well, maybe we like a little more butter on our toast?!", oh well. They don't have the standard bacon/eggs/toast meal, but you can order the eggs and toast dish and add bacon, or whatever meat, separately. We ordered a bagel with bacon and egg and cheese, as well as eggs and rye toast. The food was really really good; cooked perfectly. We especially liked how the bagel was fresh and soft. Came here for breakfast today while visiting OCMD. Sat out on the patio with 3 adults and 2 kids with 0 wait at 10 am on a Saturday. Service was friendly. Kid got a mixed fruit bowl which was packed full of basically any fruit you can think of-- strawberries, blueberries, kiwi, peach, banana, apple, the list goes on. I opted for the veggies hash, which was seasonal veggies sautéed on top of hashbrowns. The veggies were cooked really well, but coated in a ton of seasoning that seemed like it was sprinkled on after the fact. It tasted decent but had a bit of a gritty texture that I didn't love, and came out slightly less warm than room temperature which was not what I was expecting. The hashbrowns were delicious, tho! Also had a couple bites of a sausage, egg, and cheese bagel which is probably what I'd get if I were to come back. Prices were fair for the area. read more

At first we were not sure because the menu is not very forthcoming about vegan options but the server was super friendly and she knew all of the details that were missing from the menu. I came here for brunch with some friends on a nice Sunday. I ordered the breakfast tacos which were kinda bland and lacked seasoning. They were still good and made for a healthy breakfast. I also ordered an orange juice which I spilled. I ordered another and was kinda annoyed that they charged me for the second one. I think there should have been a complimentary one because I spilled my first one when it was mostly full. I also tried my bfs and friends food and it was good but again a little underwhelming. My favorite part about the restaurant is the interior. It is decorated so beautifully. It is giving Lilly Pulitzer mixed with mermaids. The food was not priced badly. I would probably would not come back. I think this is a good place for families where you can get a bunch of options and basic/traditional breakfast foods. read more

Whether hungover or hanging out, Malias hits the spot. While it can get a bit crowded, the service was for the most part brisk. In terms of food, the coffee was pretty good for a spot like this! The RVD Sandwich is perfect as hangover food after a night at Seacrets. The "bagel" itself was a bit sad, but coming from the bagel capital of the world it's difficult to get a good bagel in this part of Delaware / Maryland. Definitely go for the hash browns as your side, you won't regret it! I also got over medium eggs with rye - one egg was a little over, but I didn't mind. Both were seasoned well. Let me start by saying we tried this place years ago for a quick breakfast sandwich & bagel on the go and weren't disappointed. Then another visit for a healthy take out lunch while watching the air show since this was a block from show central. This morning we were nearby and decided to try inside dining for breakfast. It was ok. I ordered eggs Benedict, asking for a more firmly poached egg and that came out perfect. However the Ham was more of sliced chunks and I found bits of gristle & fat in many of the slices which became very off putting. I managed to either cut around or discreetly had to remove from my mouth. Hash browns had a different seasoning, couldn't identify which wasn't completely to my liking and menu did not advise of that. Price was reasonable for this dish. The omelette was made to order with mushrooms, muenster and mild cheddar cheeses and ham. Overall it was alright, not overly large for the price but tasty. Bacon was awesome, had a maple touch to it. A breakfast burrito was good, but unfortunately had same type of seasoning over it which my friend was not happy about. Hot chocolate available and served with whip cream and on a chilly spring morning was nice. Pepsi establishment with FANTASTIC soda ratio, not watered down. I did order water without ice and received a loaded glass of ice with my water. I also had to ask for refill which always bothers me in the service industry.
