Okay this looks like nothing on the outside but do not let that put you off. Inside this place is a stylish, exotic and upmarket setting for offering South Indian food. The Malabar Junction claims to be London's first upmarket South Indian restaurant with a difference The restaurant has two sections, a ground floor licensed main restaurant under a glass domed ceiling with a rather elegant ethnic ambiance and a lower ground floor with an all-day wine bar/brassiere. The menu resembles other curry houses with its choice of curries with the exception of a much larger choice vegetarian curries all for 6.00. They also have some interesting 'exotic' starters but for 9.00 each I passed especially as most of them had the word 'fry' after the name. I love coconut rice 3.00 so when I saw this on the menu I was chuffed. I ordered the Chicken Dupiaza which was okay but not worth the ten quid price tag. I have not tried the lunch menu but I believe you can get a Thali for a fiver. Watch the time when you visit this place as a minimum of 10.00 pounds per head is required after 7pm although it is easy to spend that much and a lot more. All in all great atmosphere but pricey food for what you get which I thought was nothing special given all the hype I had read about.

Very good Indian food and excellent service. It's a great choice for late night dining. I highly recommend the special bread basket, which comes with 3 different kinds of bread. On the appetizer menu is the Cashew Pakora, which is also quite good.

There are a million amazing Indian restaurants in London...but this ain't one of them! Don't bother wasting your time or money here. The staff is awfully rude, food is tasteless and unauthentic and the service is very slow. You also pay a hefty price for the above. Sadly a very disappointing experience.

Have been here so many times and always a pleasure coming back. I love the authentic fish curries served here and so the device. Thankfully, there is no typical curry that you find everywhere in London. This is also in the centre so getting there is no problem. Will go back as many times as I want to have authentic Kerala food close to where I live

I enjoyed the food we ordered this time more than the first. The house dahl is a standout and something I'd recommend people to order for sure. We also ordered the chicken ruby which was good too. The chicken biryani was fine but for the price point I definitely have had better experiences and don't think I'll try it again. The naans surprised me, they were also really good even on their own which really makes the difference in enjoying the whole meal. I also ordered the pina colada mocktail which was very refreshing and a good compliment to the meal. The service was friendly but as it was busy it did take time to flag the waiter down at certain points of the meal. Overall, I would go to Dishoom again and I'd like to try their street food offerings/appetizers next time.

For starters, we had the prawns and veggie samosas. Prawns were good and my family enjoyed the veggie samosas. Please not there are only 2 to an order. Entrees included black lentils w/garlic naan and chicken biryani. One can't handle spice and is lactose intolerant, and she was sniffling through the whole meal lol. The black lentils were good but the full flavor wasn't there and it wasn't as creamy as I've had in the past. The best ones I've had were in Thailand, but this didn't even come close. For both the lentils and the biryani, we had to add salt to try to enhance the flavor. We decides to give dessert a try and it was just okay. Initially we planned on order the gulag jamun, but it came with Cornish (vanilla) ice cream and I wanted pistachio. They were very inflexible and would not swipe out the ice cream even though they physically have to put the vanilla scoops on top. Overall, we wouldn't be back here. The quality of food is mediocre at best and hospitality could use a facelift.

A last minute rezzie at Dishoom was a long shot, so we were pleasantly surprised to find Delhi Grill a few blocks away from our hotel. Please note that they are open on Sundays - even though the Yelp page says they are not. Hopefully, that info will be corrected soon. Upon entering, your eye is immediately drawn to the myriad movie posters on the walls and to the lively Indian music videos playing on TV. I especially liked the many murals that dot the restaurant. For our party of 6, we ordered a variety of dishes to share along with 3 cocktails and a beer for the adults. All Of the cocktails were refreshing, tasty and were made with fresh fruit and/or herbs. Of the 3 cocktails we sampled, we liked the Ginger Refresh the best. The Elderflower & Strawberry Refresh and Mango Mojito were just as delicious. The Mojito uses fresh mango purée so be sure to stir well to incorporate the fruity yumminess! Let's talk about what we ate! Although the portion sizes are small to medium size, we felt that the 9 dishes we chose were satisfying for our party of 6. Everything we tried was delicious. Some of the stand out dishes were: tandoori paneer, chana, lamb biryani, spicy butter chicken and kurkuri bhindi.

We had a big family lunch at Dishoom when we were in London last month, and it was everything I…read morehoped for, an Indian restaurant unlike any I've encountered at home. I feel like all my friends who've been to London have come back talking about this place, and I'm happy to join their ranks. Dishoom was also one of a handful of dining options recommended by my hotel concierge for a party of 11, including kids. Booking was easy, via SevenRooms, no phone calls or emails necessary. It's a large restaurant, and part of a popular chain--I guess they have things figured out. The space was great, open and casual, exposed ceilings and eclectic decor. Lots of fans, which my three-year-old appreciated. Service was friendly and attentive. I started my lunch with a drink, a refreshing green India Gimlet, gin and Rose's lime with celery bitters and fresh dill. I also tried and liked a sip of the New Permit Room Old-Fashioned, a slightly sweet cocktail with coconut-washed bourbon, Pedo Ximénez sherry, and Medjool date liqueur. There was only one menu available for a party of our size, a pre-set family-style group feast for eight adults, to which we added a pre-ordered platter of lamb chops. I loved the variety of dishes that came with this meal, and every one of them was ridiculously delicious. (There was less available for the three small American children, but they loaded up on hotel breakfast and snacked on naan and colorful puffed crackers.) The first round brought trays loaded with keema pau, okra fries, and bhel, along with lime, cilantro, and sauces for serving. The keema pau was incredible, probably my favorite dish of our lunch, if in part because it was 100% new to me. It was a spicy, aromatic blend of minced lamb and peas with dill and lindi pepper, served with toasted, buttered buns to make little sliders. So much flavor, it almost explained, by itself, why the British could never leave India alone. The okra fries were warm and crispy, and I loved the bhel, a crunchy snack of puffed rice, peanuts, and Bombay Mix tossed with pomegranate, tomato, onion, lime, tamarind, and mint. The main course was another giant spread: chicken ruby, house black daal, awadhi jackfruit biryani, and chilled broccoli salad, plus our charred lamb chops, with sides of roti, naan, and raita. The chicken ruby was the highlight here, a fragrant, comforting curry with tender chicken in a buttery makhani sauce. The house black daal is a Dishoom signature, and it was lovely, cooked for over 24 hours. The biryani was fluffy and nice, studded with jackfruit, barberries, and sultanas. The broccoli salad was a fresh hit of green, enhanced with pistachio, mint, red chillies, pumpkin and sunflower seeds, dates, and lime. The lamb chops made for a hearty entrée with a lot of flavor, the lamb marinated, grilled, and finished with Kashmiri chilli sauce. The thin, griddled roomali roti and the fresh-baked naan were both great accompaniments, as was the minty, cucumbery raita. For dessert, we had a choice of kulfi, creamy ice pops available in mango, pistachio, or malai, the original flavor touched with caramel. All three were superb, so cold and milk, easy to throw down the hatch. This was, it turned out, an enormous feast, but everything was so delicious and well balanced that I didn't notice how much I was eating until I got up. I was still full several hours later, when we went to dinner. If you want to eat Indian food in London, you should definitely find your nearest Dishoom. It's a wonderful restaurant, with top-notch food and no hassle. I certainly intend to go again.

First, I started with the mango lassi which was so fresh and naturally sweet. I loved the fennel seeds on top for added flavor. Such a great start to the meal. My favorites of the night were the chicken ruby (a must order and crowd pleaser), lamb biryani, and black daal. The chilli chicken was also a super flavorful app to share and the garlic naan was great as well. Everything is nicely flavored and I appreciate how patient and understanding the staff were with the food allergies and restrictions our group had. Definitely a must in London!

Their masala chai is amazing! We ordered lamb korma, butter chicken with bone in and chicken tikka masala along with buttered naan and rice. The korma was very good and the lamb was prepared well with no gamy taste. The buttered chicken was great but I would get the boneless version next time. The Tikka masala was tasty. The naan was very good. In London, other restaurants like Gymkhana and Dishoom come up when Indian food is mentioned. Punjab is right up there with them. I love Indian food, and Metro Vancouver has a huge Indian population, so Indian food is comfort food. The restaurant's wall was decorated with various historical photographs, and right above our table was a photo of Vancouver, titled "Well-dressed Sikhs walking along the street in Vancouver, Canada c. 1908." Although over 100 years ago, I immediately recognized the location -- the corner of Granville and Hastings. How coincidental is that, to be thousands of miles away from home in a different continent, and to come across a photograph of the very street corner I cross multiple times a week! I don't recall what my husband had (a chicken dish), but I had Acharri Murgha ("chicken curry cooked in a traditional pickling spice mix") and it was delicious! Both my husband and I thoroughly enjoyed our meal -- it was a taste of home! I also had a couple of glasses of wine, but each glass was 250ml, so I was pretty tipsy. In the washroom, a woman, another tourist, started conversing with me, but she only spoke French, and despite being drunk and rarely speaking French, I was able to have a semi-coherent conversation (she was also a bit tipsy). I had a drunken conversation in French inside an Indian restaurant in England! Anyway, Punjab Restaurant is one of the best Indian restaurants I have been to, and it is no surprise that it has been around since 1946. [Yelp collections: Europe 2024; London, England]
