I was so disappointed in this place. After perusing all the pictures, I was sure this place would rock! There are plenty of seating and its clean for the most part. Its quiet here and when we went, there weren't many people. The selections were few and the quality was OK. When I looked at pictures, the dry pot looked delicious so I had to get it like that. I ordered one dry pot style and one with broth. I got the beef broth extra spicy. What's disappointing is that it has no hint of spicy at all. Chinese folks cant do justice to what real spice is like. More spicy in my soup just meant a butt load of fried chili oil. That's just disgusting at that point and extremely and unnecessarily oily. Theres no spice or fire to chili oil. When you put a whole bowl of chili oil, your soup loses any hint of the original broth. What bummed me out was that they had NO intestines and that's my fav thing to put in a hot pot bowl. That alone made me not want to eat. When I checked out the bar, I saw they had none and I stood there in disbelief just scanning for minutes. It really made me sad! The unusual thing is the marinated meat. I suppose its for the dry pot. Now, as for the dry pot I had. They had some sort of peanut tasting sauce. This sauce was too creamy and rich. It was so potent it ruined the entire bowl. Not what I was expecting at all. Very disappointed and sad. The other thing is that its 17$ a pound. My fav place, yin tang, in San diego is only 14$ a pound. This place is just not it for me. I appreciate the wide selection of toppings from veggies, tofu, seafood, noodles, and meats. The soup bases seem to change, but I think they are still trying to find out what is popular. Have to revise my review. This is no longer the best DIY hot pot experience in Vegas, for a few reasons: 1.) Quality has definitely gone down. We've gotten a few tummy aches since in our last few visits. The variety of ingredients can be lacking at times, a lot of items, such as specific tofu items can be missing. 2.) Many times, the ingredients are way overcooked and you're left with overcooked beef, and soggy noodles. I understand this is due to health regulations, but I think there's a balance that can be achieved here. 3.) They don't take out the weight of the bowl when pricing your food - if I'm gonna be paying more than $30 for hot pot, I'd go for AYCE. I'm not paying to eat the plastic! Thankfully there's more competition in town. These days, we go to the newly opened YGF Malatang. Mala Town was one of our favorite hot pot restaurants in vegas, we've been supporting their business since it first launched. Unfortunately, the food quality has been declining over the past few months. Significantly less amount of food options, Tonghao, fish filets, gongcai, lucky pocket, beef aorta etc. are no longer available. Quality of the meats are disappointing as well... all the meat cuts were way too thick, which were difficult to chew after cooked. Beef tendon had a mild sour taste, made us worried about food safety issues. We used to love the restaurant because of the high quality soup bases and the food selection, but the standards has dropped so much that it can't even compete with the regular AYCE hotpot restaurants (which have more food selections, appetizers, and desserts). We've notice the Tuesdays and Wednesdays promotions, which might help the business. Because honestly I would not go back to Mala Town paying full price. It's just simply not worth it. It is very sweet of the owner to give away free ice cream, we appreciate the thought. The staff are always extremely friendly and helpful as well. But at the end of the day, please reconsider the type of clientele Mala town plan on serving. You take what you want,but beware it's charged by the pound @ 14.99 per. Easy to end up with 2 pound bowl before you know it. You then go to the cashier weigh your bowl, pick a broth or dry mix and pay. You're assigned a table and then hit the sauce bar. Alright.. I am fully on board the malatang hype train now. Now that I've gotten older, I realized I definitely do not need AYCE hotpot and nor do I like paying for other things I generally don't want to eat. At Mala Town I just get to pick exactly what I want and how much of it!! A win win for me. There's a large variety of veggies, proteins, and broth types for you to choose from. Not to mention, a sauce bar to make whatever sauce you want! It's very easy to get carried away dumping whatever as you go since you only weigh your food out at the end before they add your choice of broth. I may have went overboard and ended up paying like $30 something for my bowl but it's ok since it served me for two meals.
