(The online scheduling only allows you to book one service at a time and will ask you to change stylists for each service if they aren't available which would be odd to switch mid hair makeover ) I had a haircut and blow dry with Carly, the owner, and she was amazing. She seemed to know exactly what to do with my hair even though I didn't lol ‍ She had great tips and she knew exactly what I wanted. She was super personable and we chit chatted during the entire cut. She was super professional and I really enjoyed my experience. Laura of making waves salon is absolutely amazing!!!!!! I came in with badly damaged hair, half my real color and half multiple different brands of boxed dye.... I came into her salon with limited time, but also asking her to dye my hair blonde!!!! She jumped all over the challenge, and I was honestly not only surprised but amazed by the time she was done! She not only managed to color correct my hair, but my hair looks STUNNING! the color is multi-toned blonde, looks 100% natural, I couldn't imagine anybody else touching my hair from now on!!!!!! She was spot on and 1,000 times more than anything I could have asked for! Not to mention she gave me a beautiful cut and blow dry! Now this mama is walking around with a ton of confidence! Her shop is super cute, at an amazing location, and Laura made the hours I spent with her fly by with funny friendly conversation! This is the place to be people of yelp ;) Laura really knows what she's doing, and you won't be sorry coming in to see her! In fact, you'll never go to anybody else! read more

I've tried just about every salon in Kihei. In Hawaii, you would expect outrageous prices for a decent cut... But you won't get that here. If you make the wise choice of going to Making Waves you will be sat down in a plush chair in a small, sweet, and comfortable environment. Some hip and up beat Music will play in the background while you sip on your complementary cold or hot beverage, making the atmosphere in this "feel good" salon even sweeter. The stylist there, Lauren did my color and cut and I was BLOWN AWAY. I came in with dull mistreated hair and left more confident than I've been in years. In the time I was sitting I saw the owner, Laura transform two other women's hair completely and was so surprised when I heard her (really fair) prices at the end of each client. Six stars easy and I don't even know if that's a thing. I'll be back until I move off Maui. Do yourself a favor and choose making waves read more

I have lived on Maui several years and until now, couldn't find a nice place to get a haircut in Kihei. Making Waves is a small 2 chair business in Kalama Village with good air conditioning. It was previously a barber shop, but the new owner remodeled the space and now its a nice small salon space. Felix cut my hair ,and he offered me a nice cold adult beverage before he started cutting my hair. We discussed how i wanted my haircut, and when he finished I had a nice fresh look. The price was just a couple dollars higher than going to Supercu** and the experience was outstanding. It was so good that my lazy self had to open a yelp account and help to get the word out. Thanks Felix and Making Waves, good luck in the future read more

I was referred to "Making Waves" from a friend. I came there really frustrated because I had been going to another salon(also in Kihei) that after many failed attempts could not get my color or cut correct! When I met Laura I instantly felt comforted and understood by her friendliness, experience and education!!! As soon as you walk into "Making Waves" you can feel her passion and love for hair and Aveda products! Did I mention her scalp and hand massages included with services? I now only use Aveda products and can feel such a difference! Laura is amazing and all her special touches make "Making Waves" salon a great fun place! I highly recommend this salon! read more

I've been going to this salon for over 2 years now. When I moved to Maui from Seattle I was wondering if I would find a great hairdresser, given I had been going to high end Salons for nearly 32 years. A friend of mine recommended me to Laura. I can not be more pleased with not only how my hair turns out every time, but also how fun it is to be in her presence and to hang out in her awesome little salon. She knows her stuff. She's a true artist and professional. It's no surprise she teaches for Aveda all over the islands and mainland. If you're looking for the best, this is it. I highly recommend! read more
