Refused my mom's request to replicate a haircut someone else had done for her. All she wanted was for her bangs to be cut short. We showed the hairstylist a photo and he proceeded to cancel my my mom's appointment while she was there for it and kick her out. Saying he refuses to take her request and let her walk around with his work on display as something he doesn't approve of. This was Joseph, the owner of the shop apparently. He told me to go to any hair salon and he bet not even the beauty school would agree to do what she wanted. Supercuts did what she wanted about 30 minutes later. read more

NEVER AGAIN!! To many games and drama!! The day before I took time out of my busy schedule to go to the ATM and get cash for gratuity for my hairstylist, Joe, and then sat in my hot electric car for 30 minutes charging it to make sure it had enough charge to make it across the island for my much needed hair cut. See, working at the hospital through this covid crisis for the last year we've been very short staffed and often working 6 days a week. Finally taking a vacation day and preparing my kids to be home alone for a couple of hours I headed out 45 minutes early for a 17 minute drive. With the bottlenecked traffic from the tourist on the island and a lot of frustration because of, I arrived 5 minutes late. They allowed me to sit there, as Joe hid in back, for a few minutes before his coworker, not him, informed me that I had to reschedule because I was late. I feel they were very spiteful, unprofessional and disrespectful! I understand a schedule but I also understand Life Happens! Often at work I don't get my lunch breaks or even restroom breaks because it's important that people in need are accommodated. read more

I've been going to Evolution salon for years but will NEVER GO BACK. I always left with a great cut, shiny, bouncy and smooth hair until last week. During my blowout Mel needed to attend to another client and had her partner Joe take over. Instead of using a round brush to smooth out my hair, Joe spent over 20 minutes inappropriately caressing my head and neck slowly while brushing up against me. He repeatedly ran his fingers and hands on me and through my hair. I left with frizzy hair and couldn't drive away fast enough. I tried speaking to Mel twice and she was dismissive and sent me a link to blowouts as if I'd never been to a salon before. Since then she has made disparaging comments to other people although she knows NOTHING about me or the great reputation I have in the community in which I live. I'm seeking counsel on further action at this time and am warning other unsuspecting women who do not care to be treated in this manner. read more

Stephanie at Evolution spa is the best! Me and my 40 year old mom went to her for some highlights and once again she served! In three hours she did me and my moms hair, beautifully. Stephanie is not like other hairdressers. She is kind, Im convinced that she can do anything. My hair had been dyed so many times before, unlike other hairdressers she fixed it up just right. To a beautiful beige brown. And she keeps my moms blonde hair perfectly maintained. Stephanie is NOT overpriced. She can do just about anything, give you what you want. So my hair has been neglected for years now and I felt like I needed a change. After days of contemplating on what to do with it, it was now time to decide WHERE I was going to go get my "hair did." Browsing online makes it so much easier to find places to go. But unfortunately that doesn't mean you can pick a place and walk out happy as ever. BUT, to my surprise I had the best luck in finding an opening here at Evolution Salon! So great, I booked my appointment. But that's just the start. Soon after I was able to book online, Joe reached out to me via text! Which I found awesome! I had asked for a consultation prior to doing anything so it was great that we were able to discuss what I had in mind, with pics of options. So come the day of my appointment , Joe got straight to work! He knew exactly what I wanted, and didn't waste any time. Still, as he's working I'm sitting there nervous on how the outcome would look. (But that's just me being a noob at a salon! ) After ONLY a couple hours, he transformed my boring hair to something I fell in love with!! As soon as I got home, my mom even complemented how she loved the color! Today I did do a second appointment to tone it a little more, and just like the first time, I walked out happy as ever!! i chose evolution salon based on all the great reviews. I went in with a picture to help explain my desired results. Joseph seemed receptive but did not look at the picture much. Didn't ask many questions. Seemed pleasant. He did not offer to show me the back and I was chicken to ask. When I got home I was able to see how bad the haircut was. It was way shorter than my picture. Bangs that did not blend in and the back was bulky and wavy. It looked terrible. I had to schedule another appointment. He didn't really seem to care, no apology and I was so frustrated. He attempted to fix what hair was left. Never apologized ! Worst experience ever!!! read more

Stephanie did my hair Thursday. I have fine short, barely shoulder length hair. She did a great cut. No long drawn out consultation. I've been trying to find a great hair salon with Simone that knows how to cut my type of hair for 4 years. The last two that did my hi-lights didn't listen when I said do not pull it through the already blonde hair. So the ends were fried. Stephanie was very understanding and didn't throw other stylist under the bus, she just talked about what needs to be done next time. She wasn't pushy, and I think I will try her for the next hi-lite... definitely the next trim. My hair and me are very happy with it. I was super lucky she answered the phone and was willing to take an appt even though she was scheduled to be at the end of her day. Do Not Go To Joe!!! He should have his license revoked!! I came in with shoulder length naturally curly hair and left almost bald. I looked like a cancer patient. It's an inch long, no curls. I showed him several pictures of the hair style I wanted. Triangular shape bob with curls to my chin on the left and curls to my earlobe on the right and layers in the back to give it some lift. I have inch long hair in the back and the right and two inches on the left. WTF!! Boycott Joe!! I have to wear a hat for months before I get my curls back. What a fucking idiot!! We really gave it a try, but I'm sad to say that Evolution cannot and should not be recommended and truth be told, the word is long out all over Maui that this salon is unprofessional and it's only a matter of time before honest reviews are trickling in, hopefully warning future clients. Coloring - I walked in with virgin hair that as untreated and healthy, asked for lifting three levels from 6 to 9. I walked out with orange hair instead of blonde. Extensions - They are using an outdated system of plastic bonds that break off your hair at the root, and, the stylist left them in too long even though I went for a check-up after 1 month and she said I could keep them for another 2-3 months. I went to different salon for a second option because I kept finding fists fulls of my hair falling out. That other stylist said my hair was already trashed and I lost 90% of my hair that had bonds - broken off at the root. My hair was naturally 20 inches long, now most of it broken off at the root! Those of us who have long mermaid hair...you know what that means...5-7 years of regrowing your hair back. The unprofessional a-la-carte at Evolution includes frequently but not always- Joe renown all over Maui for harassing clients so beware he may outright flirt or inappropriately touch his female clients (even married ones with their husband and baby along) while his wife is working right next to him; stylists sending unprofessional text messages to their clients, hostile phone interactions, the discomfort of witnessing fights between co-owners Mel and Joe, and of course - completely unresponsive behavior when they were informed that a client was unhappy (who would not be unhappy with 20 inches hair broken off). Go to any salon in Maui and you'll sadly hear the tales and horror stories about Evolution Salon. read more

Very friendly staff! Love Joe!! Not only is he an amazing stylist, but he genuinely cares about what I want and achieves my desired look all the time. Mind you, I can be very indecisive but Joe is able to read me and I've always been satisfied. I've referred several of my friends and family to him and they all love him. After having very long hair (down to my waist) for quite some time, I decided to give someone new a try at a new "do" and Joe was The Man for the job. Joe is the best! I've been going to get my hair cut there for almost a year and it's always been great. Joe runs this fine establishment and has always been professional and makes you feel comfortable. It is sometimes uncomfortable for guys going to salons, traditionally a woman's world and it still is here, but Joe's just another dude you can grab a beer with. I look forward to going to see Joe for a great cut, but also for great conversation. He's got a great dry wit. Ask him about his turtle. Hilarious! Honestly, I was bored on my day off, wasting time & money at Savers (thrift store across the street) & I impulsively wanted bangs. VOILA! Joe was amazing & let me borrow his laptop to show him the style I thought I might want but in the end I just let him do his thing & I have never been happier...EVER. I visit Maui every year for Christmas with my family. Normally I would get my lashes done before I come. However this year I was very busy with my own lash business that I had no time. Being a lash tech I was very nervous about getting my lashes done by anyone but my business parter. I found evolution and decided to give it a try. I was so so happy with Janet, she was beyond professional. I have trained many lash techs in the last 7 years and they usually have the technique down or they don't. Love Evolution salon! Although I go elsewhere for my haircuts (only cause I've had the same hairstylist for years), I absolutely love Jaymie & Rachel. Jaymie does an awesome job with my mani's & pedi's and Rachel is wonderful at doing my waxings. Their atmosphere is very comforting and I just love the classy dress code they use as employee's...black and dark solid colors. The pedicure room is nice and dark but relaxing. They provide online appointment booking and give you follow up calls 1 day prior to your scheduled appointment. They also provide complimentary coffee or water while waiting for your appointment...this service has a nice and generous feel to the salon. Lots of parking available and open 7 days a week. My daughter and I are very happy with the professionalism at Evolution. I've been going to Stephanie for about 2 years for color, cut, and straightening and my hair has never looked better. When my daughter had her Junior Prom, Stephanie dyed her hair to match her extensions, and Kelly E curled her hair and extensions on prom day. Kelly C (a different Kelly) is also a pro with waxing- she did our eyebrows and gave me a great facial. The Salon is conveniently located, on Dairy Rd, and has ample parking. They are very clean and stylish and use high end products. Another thing I really like is that everyone seems to work together really well. If a stylist feels someone else is better at a certain technique, they will refer to each other. To top it off, while I'm waiting, I use their wifi and drink Capuccino that they serve. l couldn't be more pleased. read more

Mel was terrific!! She spent 5 hours, fixing my at home hair dye job gone wrong. I left the hair dye on too long and got way too dark (nearly black, I'm a brunette by nature, that's what I trying for to cover my gray) and fried the ends. My hair is long and very thick, even Mel said she underestimated how much I have when I told them before my appointment.
