I will never use them again! The cocky serviceman who came out said a circuit board was out and would cost $900 to replace. Since you obviously have a leak it would cost you over $3,000 to fix so I advise replacing it. How much would that be I said, oh about $21,000. I said I don't plan on spending money to fix it right now and don't have $21 grand. He said well I can make the fan work. He by passed the switch and put the two wires together. Will it still cycle on and off I said. He said sure buttoned it up and left after charging me 87 for the service call and $99 for by passing the switch. Fan wouldn't turn off and I had to unplug the unit. It would of cost another service charge to have them come back out. I called Spoors and their serviceman was topnotch and professional. He diagnosed the unit, put the wires on the the switch back. Said the board is fine, the switch is not bad, there is a safety sensor that does not allow the fan to come on when the unit is low on freon. It would burn up the compressor. They would replace for around 15,000. read more

Their products are reliable their after service care is not. We had a new system installed just a few months ago and have been waiting months for a damaged part to be replaced. After numerous calls on our part and numerous excuses on theirs, we are STILL WAITING. We were assured that once the rain cleared the installer would show up personally to complete the repair. Needless to say we never received a call, and no one ever showed up. I dread ever needing any work done under their warranty. read more

In February 2025, Maki installed all new ducting for our heating and air system. We highly recommend this company! Chris came to our home to assess the scope of work and created a detailed bid for the replacement ducting. Price was realistic, professionalism and attention to detail high. Crew arrived on time, were personable and hardworking. Clearly the crew was fully competent and finished the work in less than 8 hours which included dismantling the old broken ducting, redsigning a more efficient layout for air flow throughout our home then installing the new ducting AND removing every bit of old ducts with the insulation bits! System was tested and they sealed around the interior floor ducts to prevent loss of air flow when system is in use. Let me add, our duct work is all under our home in a small area. We have a 'mini split' air and heating system that has worked perfectly for the last two years. The temp this week has been 103 and higher. Our mini split system stopped working during the hottest day this week. I called Maki's operator and she was able to get us an appointment immediately. The technician came on time, very friendly, explained clearly what the problem was as well as telling me about the service plan I requested. The technician worked in the heat to make sure our system was up and running, answered all my questions and cleaned up any debris from the installation. Our system is up and running today and I clearly need another one of these mini splits in other rooms of our home. read more

This could have been a really bad review but Maki heating and air, under new management, fixed what was originally a botched job their companies workers had done installing a new HVAC unit. I won't go into details about the bad stuff but Donavan came out and noticed we had a big problem and he called his boss to confirm and they listened to what I told them had happened with the original installers and immediately took action. Within a week Mike and two other guys (I'm sorry I didn't catch their names) came out and did a beautiful job taping and welding the leak that was found and fixing our system back to the way it should have been running from the start! Mike and Donavan were very helpful and impressively quick and professional. Maki, these guys saved this customer for you! If I were you I'd keep them and hopefully give them a raise. Just had my 6 month heating maintenance done today by Thomas. He was here on time and did a thorough check up. He even found that my thermostat had never been connected correctly and fixed that for me. I had cleaned my resuable filter and then he showed me how to properly clean it and it looks brand new. A/C was not working on a 103 degree day. Saw that Maki had good reviews, so I called them. They sent a tech, John, out within a few hours. He checked the outside compressor while I watched. He quickly told me that the compressor had completely failed and that I needed to replace the whole system (including what is in the attic). I know my way around electrical and I just didn't feel he was testing it correctly. When I challenged him, he seemed to get annoyed. He kept promoting a new system. Definitely felt some pressure tactics were being used on me. I paid him the $94.00 for the call (which he did not deserve) and told him he could leave. I then had Empire Mechanical Services come out and check it and they very quickly found that the problem was only a loose wire in the electrical box. They had the system up and running in less than 10 minutes. I would give Empire a 5+ and Maki a zero (the system made me put a star, but I would do less than zero if I could). John from Maki had an overwhelming odor of cigarette smoke on him that almost made me choke. Never use Maki unless you like strong arm tactics used on yourself. read more

I would never recommend this business. Our AC was blowing warm air. Their serviceman came out and told us we needed two new parts that were over $2,000 and were not available for 1-2 months. The suggestion was that we instead get a new unit. We got a second opinion which was that all that was needed was to use the restart switch which took care of the problem. After talking with other local residents and their similar experiences with Maki, I am even suspicious that the serviceman turned off the switch to try to get us to purchae a new unit as he obviously gave us false infomation about needed parts. When calling around for another company to come check it out, two companies told us that if we really needed that one part that was supposedly 1-2 months back ordered, the part really was available within two days. Yes. They were able to come out to the Colfax, CA area the same day. Also, the diagnostic fee was not too high - $94, and they got the fan ordered and installed quickly. The big problem is they way over charged for a simple fan moter. I texted with an HVAC friend of mine from the Bay Area and the price range he quoted for a company in the Bay Area to do it was about half of what Maki charged. Also, the tech was telling me how I would probably need to replace my unit soon. So, I am going to try to stay away from them. Find another firm that is more reasonable. read more

My A/C unit stopped working this past Sunday night (high was about 106 that day). Maki responded first to inquiries and had availability the next day! The time window was between 12-3pm. I called at about 2:30pm, since the house was pretty warm, to see when they would be out. They were running late, but we weren't the only ones whose AC died. They arrived around 4pm. They did a diagnostic and explained what was wrong and got the AC up and running!Our indoor kitties were happy about that! My only minor gripe is that I wish someone would've called to say they were running late. read more

Signed up under a maintenance agreement last year but when I never heard from them, I called to find out when exactly I'd be seeing them. Instead of them coming each season (every 6 months) I was strung along to wait 9 months. By that time, my nearly 20-yo unit had caught fire, burned the circuitry board, melted capacitors, wiring, and needed replacing. Their bid was well over $12k, including financing, and overselling me with another 4-ton unit rather than the original 3.5-ton that was its original footprint. This was confirmed when astute A&A Heating and Air investigated the 16" hole in my cold air return and gave me a bid for $3k less for a more appropriately-sized unit. After checking my homeowners insurance, I found that I have a $500 deductible that will cover EVERYTHING! I didn't need financing; Maki's guy, Russell, jumped the gun, 'cuz he didn't want to come back up from Rocklin later, where he lives, to secure the bid, stating Maki was giving me the best deal possible - NOT! Lesson learned! Don't EVER sign up for a maintenance agreement where you get pushed out to a service-call NINE MONTHS LATER rather than every 6 months. We have MANY local HVAC contractors who are caring, concerned, decent people who give you the liberty to shop around, secure bids, and not be pushy to promote their own agenda. Go with these companies. Yes, Debbie, this is a disturbing review detailing MY experience. I would never want another customer to experience what I did, so I will always speak truth. I well know you're in Auburn and the guy who did the estimate said he lives below Rocklin. So this review IS my assessment of Maki H/A. I am so incredibly disgusted by this customer service!!!! We have purchased 2 air conditioners from this company! We have been loyal for 30 years with their maintenance program. Today they installed a new air conditioning unit and and we have lost power in half of the house. There is no outage anywhere. We called Maki and they wouldn't send anyone out to fix the problem and hung up on my 77 year old mother. She had to call an electrician to come out to help. UPDATE!!! Let's be clear "Debbie D" at Maki. YOU did not call to have someone resolve this! WE DID! You did not offer or make the suggestion. So please don't respond to this review pretending you tried to do anything to help us, because you didn't. I was there...i heard the entire conversation....you hung up on us when you wouldn't offer any type of help. It's not a surprise that customer service has taken a dive since this business was sold. Maki customer service is great - they're knowledgeable, responsive, and friendly. They came out last summer when our coolers pooped out (when it was 110 of course); they got the units running again but advised they were at the end of their lifespan. This spring we called them for a follow-up consult. They did a thorough inspection of the coolers, furnaces, and ductwork, and gave us multiple options how to proceed so we could choose a price point that worked for us. Once we made our choice, they came out within few business days to complete the job. While doing the work they were very courteous and they cleaned up all traces afterwards. Macki installed my heat and a/c unit and they where great people that did a great job. However their incessant phone calls wanting to do maintenance on our system has worn me out. I''m a retired master technician and know this carrier unit does not need the service they're selling us. I asked them when they did service last time to clean the condenser of leaves and dog hair by blowing it out with air pressure. Instead the tech took a garden hose to the condenser and washed it, (wrong) . He made a wet mess of the electrical area. A Dangerous & Messy job. Second, our unit does not need this constant service that they're doing. First they started calling my phone trying to make an appointment to service it again to which I declined and said " It's fine " leave it alone. Last year they did a tune up; this year it broke. Hot summer days and my warranty guys are booked until Saturday. Cannot understand why you have to do some mediocre job on a premium system.
