What's a socal girl to do when her engagement photoshoot is in norcal? Look for a hair and makeup artist, of course! My fiance and I decided to do a 2-day photoshoot at our alma mater (where we first met), and Vivi was my hair and makeup artist for both days as well as the trial session. I found Vivi through Yelp, took a look at her work, loved it, and e-mailed her for a quote of her prices. Vivi was very quick to reply whenever I e-mailed her and she was very flexible with her scheduling. She was one of the few hair and makeup artists who were able to do my hair and makeup for both days of the photoshoot. We collaborated over a few weeks about different hair styles/looks I was going for for each day of the photoshoot. I created a Pinterest board with pins for her to look at ahead of time. Her prices are very reasonable, compared to other hair and makeup artists in the bay area, yet the quality of her work is well worth the price! My photographer was surprised when he found out how much I had paid for the trial and 2 days of hair and makeup! Keep in mind, it's cash only though! My skin tends to break out after using makeup, but my skin did not break out at all after the trial session and two photoshoot days! I was shocked! The makeup also lasted all day for my trial and my photoshoot. Although my hair is thick and long, Vivi styled it very well. My hair looked just like my Pinterest pins, and it held very well against the strong SF wind! At the end of the first photoshoot day in SF, my hair style and curls were still intact and on point (I have straight Asian hair). Although the trial and photoshoot hair and makeup sessions took place at her home studio, everything was neat and clean. She also played some music during the sessions, which made me more relaxed. She also offered me a room to change to my photoshoot dress, which was super helpful, especially since my photographer, my fiance, and I were on a time crunch. Despite the hair and makeup session being in Berkeley, parking was easy peasy. Vivi offered parking on her driveway (you just need to park closer to her side of the yard). Street parking is also available but is limited to 2 hours. If you're doing an early hair and makeup session like I had to for one of my days, there is a coffee shop across the street. Super convenient to get your hair and makeup done then run across the street to get your coffee fix! Thank you Vivi for the amazing work! Vivi did my hair and make-up for my wedding in San Francisco last month, and she did an amazing job. My venue and wedding dress were both art deco themed, so I wanted a low do with a comb for a vintage look, as well as warm/bronze make-up. Vivi did my hair and make up for my wedding as well as for my maid of honor and hair for my flower girl. My maid of honor and flower girl looked great. As the bride, I opted to go last. Unfortunately, there was a misunderstanding by Vivi on what time I needed to be at my ceremony venue (our emails were quite clear on the time I needed to be at the venue). She spent a remarkably long time completing my makeup (and it looked fantastic), but ran out of time to do my hair. Because of this she rushed doing my hair in about 15-20 minutes. (I have naturally curly/fuzzy hair, so controlling the hair so it stays in place for the entire evening usually takes time.) Sadly, this confusion in the time created a cascade of scheduling problems in my pre-wedding and wedding day events. The delay caused me to be almost an hour late to arrive for photos with my fiance, which was scheduled to be done before anyone else arrived. Instead, my entire family waited outside in the cold for an hour for our 'first look' formal photos to be taken. Since I was so late to arrive, these photos couldn't be taken prior to the ceremony as we planned. These photos had to be taken during the cocktail hour and during dinner inside the venue since the sun already set (the whole day was planned and timed so that the photos could be done outside with the park in the background - a big reason why I selected this particular venue). This also resulted in inconveniencing my family during the cocktail hour / dinner as we had to interrupt their conversations and run all over the venue to find them. This also resulted in us not being able to take all the photos we wanted. We planned the entire day so that my fiance and I would have the opportunity to enjoy happy hour and talk with my family and friends that flew in from all over the country and not take family photos. While I understand that things occur and I could have understood some tardiness, an hour was too much. I recommended to Vivi after the wedding that for other brides, she should be clear on what time she needs to be at the venue, and also perform better time management. Vivi has since sincerely apologized for this and I appreciate her sincerity. Unfortunately, I cannot redo my wedding. However, I would not recommend her services if she is under a time table or you have a specific vision in mind. I spent $250 on two trials before the wedding. My hair and makeup looked nothing like the final style that I had picked. On the final day, I noticed that Vivi was rushing and made a point to remind her about my preferred hairstyle. She did not hear or respect my request. When I looked in the mirror and told her this was not what we had discussed, she told me this style looked better. I really disliked the end result. Honestly, I refused to look in a mirror the rest of the day. It was the opposite of how I wanted to feel on my wedding day. My bridesmaids also thought 15-20min was too little time on their hairstyles; it was poorly done for $80 per person. Similar to another yelp post, Vivi struggled to make our timetable even though she brought an assistant to help her. We were over an hour late to the wedding. Luckily, we had scheduled photos first, and the photographer was able to rally the wedding party. Unfortunately, we missed out on a lot of family pictures as a result of Vivi's timing. Poor time management is probably the main reason our hair and makeup did not turn out well. I do not think Vivi works well under time constraints. You only get married once. I think Vivi is a skilled makeup artist, but I do not think hair comes naturally to her. This is a day that you want to feel beautiful and special. Vivi did hair and make-up for me (the bride) and six bridesmaids for my July 2010 wedding. She arrived on time in the morning and stayed with us for eight hours with barely a break. Vivi was super sweet to everyone and got along great with all the girls. We we were all very impressed with her hair and make-up skills. Seriously, the bridesmaids gushed about how they'd never had their make-up make them look so good! She took her time with everyone to make sure everybody was happy with how they looked, but was quick and efficient. Some of the bridesmaids brought pictures of how they wanted their hair (and everyone was different), and she was able to create exactly the look that they wanted. As the bride, I was really happy with my make-up and hair. I changed the hairstyle last minute, and she was able to pull everything off even though it was very different from our trial.
