As if Makeda's couldn't get any better, they have just introduced a food innovation that has completely changed the culinary landscape. ETHIOPIAN BURRITOS! That's right. You can now enjoy those delicious Ethiopian flavors in a easy-to-eat package., using their injera bread as a wrapping. Currently they are offering chicken, beef, salmon, and vegan varieties. I had the chicken burrito and it was fantastic. I think they also added their red lentils and some greens in it. And maybe other stuff. The flavors were absolutely popping! But wait, it gets even better. Their injera bread is now completely GLUTEN-FREE! So now people with gluten sensitives can enjoy burritos again. How cool is that?? Trust me, you need to try one ASAP. read more

I went to their New Location near Oakshire Brewing in the Whit today! I loved their food regardless of the location, but the new spot seems a little more approachable than the previous location on North Chambers Street. Every time I go, they are super friendly and accommodating. We usually order the Ethiopian Tour/platter for 3 people and it is so tasty and the injera is perfect!! IT is the best. I highly recommend this Ethiopian food truck, the food is tasty, the owners are really friendly and the prices are very competitive and reasonable! read more

Great service and food, but a little overpriced for what we got. The area surrounding had great vibes, overall good experience and date night. read more

This food was so delicious the beef tibs and chicken tibs were very delicious!!!! The man working was very nice and happy to make us our food!! He gave us some sombusas to try while we were waiting for our food. Overall amazing food and service!! The lentils were good as well!! Will be coming back read more

Amazing! The food was absolutely delicious and they have really great service too. If you are in the area definitely a must stop!

This dish, temtumo, is a lentil dish, yet different. The spices smell wonderful and give heat that you feel, but not overpowering. The injera contrasts with the lentils and tames the heat. The tang of the injera is good-basically, an Ethiopian sourdough flatbread. Good service. The only thing I would want to change is that it would be nice if it was served a bit warmer and less lukewarm-nothing that a trip to the microwave can't fix, but just something to note. Nice to see something different among the food trucks. Great vegetarian dish! Would have again. This is a unique food truck that you have to try at least once in your life! read more

I tried Makeda's for the very first time during a unique circumstance. It was during the Juneteenth Celebration at Alton Park. They were slammed with hungry attendees so the wait for the food was longer than it would be normally. That experience is not what I am reviewing today. My review is solely of the food, which was fantastic! You can tell that they take great pride in serving high quality of food, taking their time perfecting each dish. I ordered their Alecha. A vegetarian dish made up of cabbage, potatoes, and carrots. Every component of the vegetables were made beautifully and the textures perfect. But the star of the show was the Injera. Oh the Injera! It was so tasty and you can tell it was just freshly prepared. A fermented flatbread with a delightful tang and a satisfying spongy texture combined with a subtle crunch. Thank you for bringing the joys of Ethiopian cuisine to the Eugene area. Definitely a great addition to the food truck community. read more

Such an interesting flavors and some really cool choices. I want to try everything but I started with probably their most popular. This chicken dish have some good space. The steamed bread it's very filling. Do you have the option to get it with rice but I highly suggest this traditional version. Super friendly service and convenient location. read more

So glad to have this place! Simple menu, but options available for all dietary needs. I can't eat dairy or soy at the moment, so I was happy to be able to order the Alecha vegan dish, which seems free of most other major allergens. They do not cook with soybean/vegetable oil, which is appreciated. I had to wait about 20 minutes for my food because it was a little busy, but the owner was really friendly and everything was packed up well. My food was really tasty despite being vegan. My husband had the doro wat and enjoyed it, and I was able to order an additional injera for $1. read more

I jump at any opportunity to have Ethiopian food, but this was a decidedly underwhelming experience. $15 for a tiny portion of flavorless lentils and potatoes, with scant traces of carrot and cabbage, plus one cold soggy wonton. Injera was decent, but the complete lack of flavor in the alecha and lentils was disappointing. Extra star for the friendly service. read more

Not sure which I enjoyed more, the owners or the food. I tried the Doro Wat and it did not disappoint. Tender fall off the bone chicken, slow simmered in fragrant savory spices and enveloped in the sour spongy injera. The samosas were crunchy and full of flavor. Can't wait to try their other menu items. read more

Great new place! Even though I arrived at the end of the day and they were out of vegetarian options, the owner whipped up not one but two off-menu dishes for me, which was very generous. (Granted, future customers shouldn't presume she can always do that--she was being extremely kind!) She made shiro (smooth chickpea stew) and gomen (spinach), both of which were delicious, and nice and spicy from green chilis. What I most appreciated is how the food tastes truly homemade (in a good way), with fresh ingredients, and it came out fast. The injera was also the perfect texture. Sambusa was nice too, with a spicy lentil filling. Will definitely return again. read more

Tried the beef tibs and sambusas. Both were fantastic. I crave this place often and look forward to Saturday market in part because of this food truck. read more

Ethiopian food was a hit! Well flavored red lentil dish called Temtumo. Flavor was perfect with the added spices from the garlic, ginger, and caramelized onions. The injera flatbread was super spongy and complements the heat from the lentil dish. Do yourself a favor and get a side of crispy wontons (sambusa) for a dollar. These babies are deep fried lentils with a nice crisp to change up the soft texture from the rest of your meal. Kudos to having vegan friendly options & kudos to the sweet owner's wife. Having good vegan food always wins me over and service is a cherry on top I'll be back to try Alecha next time! read more

Excellent Ethiopian food. I had the beef tibs and my wife had one of the veggie plates, both were good. I was worried that the Eugene area was never going to get a good Ethiopian place. The Ethiopian place in Springfield is subpar, but this place is great, despite being a food truck. Two things to note: the portions were smaller than I expected. Normally, when I go into an Ethiopian sit-down restaurant, I expect to pay about $20 and get enough for two meals worth. This food truck sensibly charges $10 and gives you one meal's worth of food. That is good, because, if I want two portions, I can just order a second one. But it was different from what I would expect from an Ethiopian place, just as a heads up. Second, it took them a little while for us to get our order. Maybe a hair shy of twenty minutes. For most Ethiopian places, that would be fast, but for most foodtrucks, that is quite slow. The workaround...order online ahead of time and send them a text just to make sure that your order went through. The family that runs has there own ordering website. You can use Doordash and the other apps, but if you want to support them more, use their website. Eugene, we need more Ethiopian places, Ethiopian is the most delicious cuisine that you have never tried. Show Makeda's some love. read more

Great food, very friendly people. Would love it if this became a sit-down establishment some day soon so that Eugene could have a sit-down Ethiopean restaurant for a more comprehensive cultural experience. Can you please add Gomen to your offerings??? read more

Finally a delicious Ethiopian food option in Eugene! The food is delicious, fresh, perfect spice level. Whenever I try a mexican spot I've never had, i get the chili relleno, to see if they take the basic staples seriously, it tells you all you need to know about the rest of the dishes. So at Makeda's i got the durowat, classic, and flippin incredible! I'll be back to try everything else, many more times. read more

This place was amazing!! So good we might delay our trip to Bend in the morning so that we can eat here again! We ordered the Beef tibs and the Dhoro wot with injera. So,so good. The lady who was at the window was also super friendly. I will say that the level 4 spice wasn't as spicy as I though it would be. I like really spicy though. The Dhoro wot was phenomal and I'll probably dream about that flavored, spiced, simmered deliciousness. Highly recommend! read more

The Alecha and Temtumo are both vegan! I tried both and liked them! The injera is moist and well made. I've heard rumors of a vegan burrito using the injera as a wrap, I'd love to go back and try. read more

Amazing Ethiopian food in the heart of Eugene! We were so excited to see this open, especially as a food truck. It's so great to have so many options in downtown Eugene. We visited last Friday and tried the Doro Wat, Beef Tibs, and the Samusas. Everything was phenomenal. The injera was sour and perfectly made, and everything was super flavorful--no forks necessary! We loved the lentils that came with both dishes. And the man helping us was super friendly and nice! This place deserves more love, so come check it out! read more

Finally! Delicious Ethiopian food, right here - no need to travel to Portland. So far I've happily devoured the beef, red lentils, chicken, potatoes with carrots, and the samosas. There's a spinach dish I need to try next...The injera (traditional bread/savory pancake) and homemade berbere sauce make this cart a special experience. Last not least, it's a pleasure to support this very sweet chef/ownership duo in this tough time. Check it out! read more

Dorho Wat so spicy I could not eat it. Mouth still buring 20 minutes after tasting. Threw it in the trash.

Delicious authentic Ethiopian food! Vegetarian friendly and Gluten Free options. I love this place!

Wow, first time having Ethiopian food and we loved it! We ordered the Beef Tibs because we were really hungry and there was a bit of a wait for their popular Doro Wat. It seems like they sold out since it's the most asked for dish. They have a very small and simple menu, which I like. They have options for meat lovers and options for vegetarians/vegans. While we waited for our order, we could see them making the food. Looks like they put in a lot of work into it and the kitchen looks clean as well. The two people working there (owners I'm guessing), were very friendly and made us feel welcomed. It was also nice to see that they accept credit/debit cards. I saw a couple of 3rd party delivery stickers, so you can find them on UberEats and Grubhub. Now, as for the food, it was delicious! I can't compare it to any other Ethiopian place, since this is the first time that we've tried this cuisine. The Beef Tibs had tender meat, a flavorful sauce, yummy veggies, the right kind of spice, and good spongy Injera. We had never even heard of Injera but it was fluffy/spongy and sour. The flavor mixed well with the bold notes from the Beef Tibs. Our plate also came with one Samusa, which we had to go back and order more of. These are small crispy pastries filled with lentils, peppers, onions, and garlic. Overall, a great experience starting with the customer service all the way to the last bite. I definitely recommend this place and I hope to see them succeed. COVID has hit small businesses hard, and I'd really like to see the food truck scene come back! read more

Listen. I have been eating African and Ethiopian food for decades. I'm so glad Eugene finally has options. Makeda's is truly OUTSTANDING. Their injeera is fantastic. The beef ribs are delicious. Their sumusas are full of flavor. And I can't say this enough. THEY ARE NICE PEOPLE. Happy to see you. Excited you came back for their food again. Frequently service in Eugene is ... you know.... I love this food cart! 3-way tie for my favorite dish between the lentils, the chicken and the beef. I always try to convince hubs that yes, we need all three! Potatoes and carrots are also delish.
