His guys were all extremely friendly and professional and I felt very comfortable having them at the house unsupervised. Sergiu walked us through the project and helped us decide where good places for the outlets would be, installed all of our fixtures for us and even helped install our smart home devices. Sergiu went above and beyond and even had his guys go out of their way to help us fix a faucet we tried installing ourselves and failed at. We are extremely satisfied with best construction and will be continuing to use his services for our remodels and building in the future as well.

Sergio has a small, but very capable crew experienced in electrical, plumbing and general construction. They did a nice job in these areas. However, Best Construction had a weak subcontractor for flooring and staircases. The work was very poor ( I complained several times) and Best did not take responsibility for their subs work. In the end, I had to bring in another subcontractor to redo the work. Also, near the end there were some light fixtures that were not connected, and Best said they would charge to have them hooked up (again, not standing behind their work). I brought in another contractor who hooked them up in an hour ( no charge). So...mixed bag.

In more detail, we initially reached out for some small repairs as part of a landscaping project. However, the project grew in scope as we opened things up and discovered new issues. Each step of the way Michael and his team explained our options, pros and cons, and helped us navigate the decision that provided the best value for our needs. Pricing was fair and transparent without surprises. Throughout the project, we were impressed by the attention to detail and quality of work for The Building Company crews and the specialist sub-contractors Michael brought in. They did a great job protecting our hardwood floors, keeping the job site clean, and being respectful of our home. Specific work included: - Structural beam replacement - Rebuild porch covering and front wall - Install new exterior doors - Drywall: Patch ceiling and smooth coat walls Highly recommend!

Competitive pricing, but sloppy work…read more I gave 3 stars for the price, even considering the sloppy work. I had to get a door replaced. The Building Company offered very competitive quote/pricing compared to other contractors. When it came down to the work, it was done sloppily. I always hear the term measure twice and drill once. Well, to the installer, it is more installed 2 to 3 times and don't bother measuring. The original measurement, done during the price quote and before the door was ordered, was not absolutely correct. The installer doesn't bother to check but just install the door. After installation, the door rub against the top jamb and need to be reinstalled. After the door is reinstalled, then come the key hole on the jamb for the bolt lock. He prep the hole for metal plates and drill the holes. When he is done, the door to jamb distance is not uniform. On hinge side vs door knob side were off. Again, rework.

OVERVIEW We worked with Roberto of REF Builders and his team…read moreon a whole-house remodel from January 2024 through February 2025. Originally, the remodel was going to affect less than half of the house, but as the remodel progressed, we were very happy with the work and this encouraged us to expand the scope and budget of our remodel to include the entire house, and even the exterior. Roberto is friendly, honest, hardworking, diligent, and holds himself and his team to high-quality standards. We are proud to show our remodeled house to our friends. Everyone, including multiple friends who work in the construction and remodeling industry, remarks that the attention to detail by Roberto and his subcontractors is excellent. SCOPE This section of this review is to comment on the scope of work that REF Builders took on for our remodel. It was not a small job. REF Builders worked with our architect's design to relocate our kitchen to an entirely different space. This required moving electrical, plumbing, HVAC ducting, and gas lines. One previous double door in the new kitchen area was converted to a window, and another double door was filled in and the exterior wall re-stucco'd to match. Roberto's team installed highly-unique custom kitchen cabinets, all-new appliances, a new island, and countertops with precision. The remodel also included conversion of the former kitchen space into a new family room, and remodeling of 4 bathrooms, 4 bedrooms (out of 5), and conversion of a living room to an office space. His plumber installed a new tankless water heater with recirculation system. His electrician re-routed multiple electrical circuits to a Tesla PowerWall battery circuit-breaker. His team installed 14 doors with all-new door trim (including front and back doors), 2 sliding barn-doors, 2 windows, and cut new window screens for all windows. They also built a new staircase from the 1st to 2nd floor. REF Builders also installed new flooring throughout both floors of the house (including installation of new subflooring to fix termite-damaged wood and use of self-leveling concrete to flatten the floors to resolve uneven settling), new floor trim and crown moulding, new drywall throughout half of the house, painted the entire interior of the house (all rooms), and applied new stucco, painted the entire exterior, repaired face-up boards below the gutters, and installed new window trim on the entire exterior of the house and built a new concrete landing/stairs for the back door. They also installed all-new insulation throughout the walls and ceiling areas, and replaced the ceiling on the first floor and upstairs hallway and installed all-new recessed lighting, ceiling fan, and exhaust fans. They built an enclosed laundry which involved installation of new lighting, exhaust fan, and moving electrical. The toughest part of the project was resolution of major ceiling cracks due to settling of the house. Instead of just patching the cracks, a structural engineer was consulted and the sides of the house shored up to address the root-cause of the settling/cracking, then major structural work to reinforce the upper middle parts of the house, and finally the cosmetic patching by replacing the entire affected ceiling. Roberto handled all necessary permits, and inspections with the City. QUALITY OF WORK The quality of work was excellent throughout all of the diverse areas and disciplines of construction. Roberto personally inspected work as it progressed and in some cases, made his subcontractors "re-do" work that was not to his satisfaction. He would have them tear apart work that he considered inadequate and not only have them re-do the work, but in some cases he paid for the materials that were necessary to re-do the work (such as replacement tiles). When we presented him with a "punch list" after each phase of the remodel, he was very conscientious about taking care of each item to our satisfaction. His employees are hardworking, detail-oriented, and very meticulous about the quality of their work. They never rushed anything they did - it was evident that they had the discipline to always do their work correctly and precisely, rather than quickly but sloppy. They often stayed late, sometimes into the late hours of the evening. His subcontractors for electrical, plumbing, and especially painting delivered top-notch quality. We would often ask questions or for special modifications and they were always eager to accommodate our requests. PRICING AND BUSINESS PRACTICES Quotes (estimates) were always clear, and invoiced amounts always matched exactly. There were never any surprises. If we requested changes, Roberto would provide us with pricing for the "change order" and the eventual invoicing reflected that same amount. Roberto never exhibited a "nickel and dime" mentality. Sometimes the remodel pushed the boundaries of expected work/effort, but he never complained or tried to charge us extra. He likely built-in some

We remodelled everything - it very was close to a complete tear down. I would highly recommend REF based on our experience. Their quote came in reasonably priced. Roberto, his crew and sub-contractors were honest, transparent, flexible, hard working, and perfectionists. They went above and beyond to work around our need to accommodate our need to stay in the house, while delivering quality work on time. Roberto himself is a perfectionist, noticing imperfections we didn't even see, and fixing them himself. He treats his work as a craft and takes pride in it. His sub-contractors are the same, with his painter especially, as well as his electrical and plumbing guys all being exceptional. Frequently surfacing suggestions to improve upon original lighting and plumbing plans when they saw the architects plan wouldn't work as well. They really want to get it right for the customer. When unforseen work came up (e.g. moving the sewer line) he did his best to make sure he priced the additional work, accounting for our budget, frequently offering to cover labor if we wanted to cover material for small improvements he saw he could make. A great example: We weren't planning to replace existing siding and just have new siding match. However after demo, there was only a small section of old-siding left. He offered to replace that last chunk, without charging labor, if we covered the material, so we were set for the next many years. The best example of his customer-centric attitude: The architect we used messed up the positioning (off by many feet) of a 700lb 60ft vaulted ceiling beam in their plans. We noticed this after Roberto and his crew had already installed it, and started to build roofing on top of it. The architect suggested we would have to pay for their mistake to re-do the plan. Roberto stepped in feeling this wasn't fair to us, took on the cost of tearing it down again, and moving it to a new position to meet structural needs, while making it aesthetically pleasing (some of the photos here, are of that beam). This customer-focused attitude shows up in all aspects of the project. Roberto delivered the project on time, it looks fantastic, and he also helped us work around PG&E delays. I'd highly recommend considering Roberto and REF for your construction needs - whether complex or simple. They're customer-centric perfectionists.

The crew was polite and arrived on time most days. They did good work on the custom cabinets and the granite countertops look great. The flooring installation was solid and they matched the new trim to our existing baseboards nicely. There were a few small issues like a cabinet door that was misaligned and a gap behind the stove but they came back to adjust everything within a couple of days. The final price came in slightly above the original quote due to some electrical upgrades but they explained the costs upfront before doing the work. Electrical work was perfect. Chris's electrician tried extremely hard not to cut unnecessary holes in the wall. Huge difference between Chris's team and another electrician I had hired who had recommended cutting many unwanted holes. Chris electrician cut 1 as opposed to proposed 4 by another electrician. Their build proposal was very detailed and clear about scope, prioritizing a well-vetted proposal, as accurate as possible with regards to budget, rather than hooking you in with an unrealistically low price. Based on our comfort level during the design process, it was an easy decision to continue with May for the build phase. The build phase was very well organized. Among the things that we liked the most about May was the comfort level in dealing with EVERYone on their team. Before we started the whole renovation process, we dreaded the prospect of having to push a contractor to keep things moving or having unforeseen issues blow up the budget. We didn't experience any of those issues with May. Bottom-line, are we happy with our finished home and would we choose May again?
