Total cost was only $36!!! The food was very good and flavorful. It wasn't as good as Phat Eatery in Katy, Texas (our favorite spot) but was half the price and still really good. A vast array of explosive flavors and textures at this Indonesian-Balinese restaurant located in Sandy. Family-owned and -operated by an Indonesian couple , it's nicely decorated café with a special section of spices and take-home food items. Our server was the bubbly and helpful Katie. It is absolutely unforgivable for one to dine here and not experience the taste bud miracle that is the Karaage-style LOLLIPOP CHICKEN WINGS as a starter. Sweet, tangy, and a tiny bit spicy, they were done to perfection. TIP: I recommend rolling them around in the rice noodles they come with prior to eating so as to have contrasting crunchiness with the meat. Move over, pho -- the WANTON MIE is now in the driver seat for noodle soups! It comes with pork dumplings, sweet pork belly and vegetables and noodles swimming in a slightly spicy curry coconut broth. Lordie, it's the real deal. I was loathe to share it with my dining partners because it's all mine, my precious--mine! (Golem voice) The THAI TEA here was served with whipped cream and in a large curved glass. It was a unique look but unfortunately, it was rather weak on flavor. Staff: Add a little more syrup at the expense of whipped cream and it would be a lot better. I deducted one star for this. I tried the BEEF RENDANG entree as well. If you like roast beef, this one's up your alley. The meat was falling off the fork it was so soft and the sauce had the right consistency to avoid drowning or choking out the flavor. Delightful! All three of us went to town on it. Remember that you can ask for spiciness (or lack thereof) upon request, but that by default dishes are served slightly spicy. Not enough to have to wear a seat belt on the toilet at midnight but just enough to make you feel you've got pop rock lip gloss on after the meal. This is one of my husband's favorite spots and it does not disappoint. Smaller restaurant and might be family run, staff are super friendly and helpful, and dishes are all wonderfully crafted with perfect portion sizes! We had one of the thin breads which reminded me of a Chinese pull apart crispy pancake, it was so good but I didn't like the curry flavor that much. Hubs had a pork belly noodle dish and the pickled cucumbers in it were perfectly done. Wanted to try something new in the area and SO GLAD we tried this restaurant! The interior was clean and seating was immediate. I loved that they had a section of the restaurant with Indonesian snacks and drinks! It was cool seeing global treats and trying new ones! I shared my noodle dish and my friend's fried rice dish, and we were so happy with our food. It was an amazing portion size for the price, and so delicious! I can't believe this place has been here and I never knew about it until now. I have never seen an Indonesian restaurant in Utah, and being half Indonesian my daughter and I really appreciated it. There are so many choices on the menu, love that. We went with the red curry with fish and the Mie Tek Tek( Indonesian noodles), and a side order of Shrimp crackers. The red curry was fresh and you can taste that it was homemade curry, it was to die for. The noddles were good, but once you put the cucumber relish, and homemade sambal, that leveled them up to amazing!!!! Shrimp crackers were great, they have a great selection of Asian beers/wine/sake. It was good, but nothing worth raving about. The quantity of noodles were small for the price. The bowl consisted mainly of chicken. The shrimp were teeny tiny, I think there a total of 3 baby shrimp. I would pass on this dish if I were to come here again. The Nasi Goreng Jawa was just awful! The rice itself was mushy and wasn't cooked right--too much water! Not only was the texture of the rice too soft, it also really lacked flavor and the fried egg on top was over fried. I did not enjoy this dish at all. Poor execution in every aspect! The lollipop chicken wings really saved the day. I felt it was fair to give this restaurant 3 stars overall. We had an amazing lunch here yesterday! Both of us have spent a lot of time in Indonesia and we were craving some tasty food from Bali so we decided to pop into this place for lunch. We ordered the chicken sauté skewers, the fried calamari entrée and the Nasi Goering. The flavors were delightful and instantly took us back to our favorite Indonesian meals. Only observation is that the calamari was a bit salty but still really great. Note that this is a family run business the mother who is the hostess and waitress and her son are really wonderful people. Went here for a group lunch and 4/5 people got the SAME order (me included) haha. I ordered the Nasi Goreng Jawa, which is basically chicken fried rice. Nothing too crazy, but still very delicious. The portion size was also so large that I could've shared it among the group. Paired that with a thai ice tea and roti canai. Thai ice tea was HUGE and not overly sweet! Roti canai was an oiled flatbread that came with a curry sauce - also a good pairing! Everything was yummy, and I would definitely come back here next time I'm in Utah. Love this hidden gem in a strip mall in Sandy! Southeast Asian fusion street food is a bold venture in Utah but Makanmakan does a fantastic job. The reviews have been so good so stopped in for a quick dinner and they seated us right away. Nice clean restaurant, lots of indoor seating, also a patio in nice weather (but you're looking at a parking lot). Pleasantly surprised at their beer menu which features a number of Asian beers you don't typically see at Utah restaurants. Also has a small area with specialty grocery items for purchase - saves you a trip to the Asian market. Ordered the Roti Canai (Flat bread with curry sauce) and Honey Glazed Lollipop Wings to start. Both fantastic - the wings were crunchy underneath the killer sauce (packed some heat). The roti and curry were simple and perfect (also a good size serving of curry - nothing worse than running out). Got the Kwetiau Goreng (Stir fry big flat rice noodle with egg, vegetable, and meat), and Goat Curry with rice for entrees. Good portion and very filling because of the richness of both. Only disappointment was a few bones or gristly pieces in my Kwetiau Goreng noodle dish. Prompt and friendly service; the staff had a good pace balancing takeout prep and in-restaurant customers without feeling hurried. They seem very popular for takeout. We were seated and given menus and had a server to help us, though our dishes were served in disposable paper trays or plastic containers (not an issue for us - added to the "street food" vibes). This place was very tasty. I would highly recommend going. The flavors were very unique, while seeming to be familiar dishes. We got the Nasi Goreng Jawa (a fried rice with a very distinct umami flavor), Wanton Mie (a kind of wonton/ramen soup), and the Firecracker Basil Chicken (a deep spice that isn't over powering and has a richness to it). They were all excellent, and I could have easily chosen several other dishes to try. The waitress was super helpful, providing us with her favorites. We love MAKANMAKAN! It is our go to spot for Asian food in South Valley. They have great authentic Singaporean and Thai dishes. Everything is delicious here, but our favorite dishes are usually the roti, any of the half chicken dishes and stir fried water spinach. We also like the wonton noodle soup and Thai tea. Who would have thought you'd be able to find authentic Indonesian food here of all places? Came in for take out and the nasi goreng was BOMB. The beef rendang tasted good but wasn't really rendang. Rendang is a dry curry where the coconut butter and solids caramelize into a deep brown. I also wish they used a fattier cut of beef. read more

Everything had depth of flavor, and of the three traditional Indonesian dishes, my friend from Indonesia approved of all of them (high praise to be sure). My personal standout was the spinach--who would've thought spinach could be that flavorful??? Even still, as much as the food was fantastic, what makes me want to come back was our waitress. I don't remember her name unfortunately, but she was just so attentive. I have had this place bookmarked for a while so I was so happy when going on a date for this first time with this guy he gave me four options, all of which seemed amazing and were new to me. I love ethnic food from other countries and he was pretty good with the selection choices but I went with MAKANMAKAN and I'm so glad I did! I got some tofu fish I want to say it was called kung pao tofu? Not totally sure but the dish was amazing and I had a good amount of leftovers to take home which is always my favorite thing to do and had me favoring the dish sizes of this lovely restaurant. We didn't make or have a reservation. We were able to walk in around 6pm on a Saturday and get a table no problem fairly quickly and seated and served within an hour.
