Makai: toward the sea
A more important word to learn is ALOHA: hello, goodbye ... not just a word but more importantly a way of life
What do you do when you're from Hawai'i living in Roma? Well when you can't fly back home on the 18 hour flight or go to the seaside, you do the next best thing... go to a tiki bar!
This place brings a bright, fun, & colorful atmosphere with its tiki surfer vibe. Upstairs is a few comfy couch seatings and tables for food and drink. Downstairs is the tiki lounge.
The food is best described as a fusion, taking ideas from Hawaiian, Japanese, and Chinese, mixed with some Italian flair, this is Italy after all. No matter which part of the menu you order from there is a seafood, meat, and veggie option. The Bao buns are delicious and flavor packed. Sushi roll section had some nice options and my friend enjoyed her choice. I bravely ordered the poke, which in fact was a poke bowl with rice ... I knew it wouldn't be traditional but more like 'mainland poke' which has been a craze the past few years. The ingredients were fresh and did compliment each other but not close to true poke if you've had the real stuff, still tasty.
The fun part is the cocktails... some come in a pineapple, decorated nicely, and all are crafted well. Many rum based drinks (hello tropical) but also whiskey, gin, and vodka options. Beers on tap and wine by glass (didn't have but still recommend you get a fun cocktail instead).
