We had a leak issue, the source of which was unclear. We (incorrectly) assumed it was from the shower in the en suite by our bedroom. We had previously used Major Homes and been very happy with their work so we contacted them again. Mike was kind enough to come over one day later and he was both thorough and honest, saying that there was no way that the leak could have been coming from the shower. Instead, he tracked it down to the A/C unit and, after thinking about it for a moment, this made perfect sense. It's very rare that you find someone this committed to doing "the right thing" even when it resulted in no business for him or his company. Words can't describe how appreciative we are that we had the good fortune to deal with such ethical and skilled people. We can't recommend Major Homes highly enough. Update to my rather poor review of Major Homes Corp: I was contacted by Mitch (THe owner) and he visited my home with his craftsman Paul. Together they surveyed the problem and determined what exactly was wrong. They suggested something called a "Self closing hinge". It needed to be ordered, when it got to them Paul called and asked if it was possible to install. He installed it today nd all is well. We were in need of an extremely reliable and honest contractor, and several of my neighbors gave me the name of MAJOR HOMES in Bayside, Queens to do work. After discussing the contemplated work to be performed, I was given a VERY reasonable quote and had work done to our complete satisfaction. We were absolutely delighted with the warm and friendly attitude of the owner, and could not be more pleased. MAJOR HOMES also had done repairs on our roof which was installed many years ago by another contractor, and did the repair as a courtesy WITHOUT A CHARGE. Talk about courtesy! Their service manager Karl, was outstanding and a master craftsman, paying great detail to his work. We were so happy to have him here. I had my roof and front siding done less than 3 years ago. A piece of the boarder where the siding meets the roof detached and broke off the same day. I contacted the owner and was told it would cost me half the cost to fix. I honestly thought since it has been less than 3 years that it would be covered. I don't even think I got the part detailing the warranty on the workmanship when the work was done, which is my fault. I was still willing to pay the half even though I feel I shouldn't have to. After numerous emails to both Father and son, I still haven't heard back from them. They are quick to do the job, but not quick to resolve issues. Update: So they did get the little Knick knacks done after about 6 months. Their office was very courteous and helpful when I called to complain toward the end. That's my fault for not calling the boss earlier. I didn't want to antagonize the salesman and have him delay our job anymore or possibly even walk off the job after a 90% completion. Spoke with the owner's son, who was very understanding and I think legitimately tried to resolve the situation. He even offered a $100 voucher for our inconvenience. I didn't take him up on it. Our combined aggravation, the fights that my wife and I had over this project, the worry on my mother's face as she lived in my younger daughter's room for months while the project lingered... I certainly appreciated his offer and his show of concern though. I'm bumping this review up to 3 stars only because of how courteous the office was, and because I got a call back after the initial review asking me to reconsider the 1 star review and to possibly take it off. Sorry. Not taking it off. But I will fix it because he was courteous and I would honestly give them another chance if given another project manager. And because this is a business and we all need to make a buck. But, I still have to tell the truth and help protect fellow customers. It really could just depend on which salesman or project manager you get and how the whole job is handled and sub contracted out. I'm sure it's hit or miss like most businesses. So Major Homes is no worse than the vast majority of such firms I suppose. Hopefully this review helps out fellow customers and helps the company to improve their operations. Five stars are not enough for this company. More than a month after the job is complete, all their invoices have been paid, and this company continues to respond to all my concerns. A few small issues that have arisen after all is done and they answered my texts within minutes and I have their workers coming back to address my issues. Shout out to Budd Shamroth! I was so nervous about finding a trustworthy contractor and was so relieved to have found Jason Kersch at Major Homes. They recently finished the siding for my house, including all the trimming and gutters. Jason Kersch (and his dad) were always professional and prompt to respond, and their prices are very fair and reasonable with good quality materials. They did an awesome job! The pictures do not do it justice. Some of the areas around my house were also complicated (old outside pipes and wires) but the project manager, Al, managed the crew very well and they did a great job concealing them and it looks awesome. Being a homeowner is tough enough and when it comes to upgrades, repairs, and construction..well that's another headache on its own. I own 4 properties and have done complete gut and makeovers, so I have experience with shady, unreliable contractors and unacceptable work. I personally walked into Major Homes office on Clearview Avenue and met with friendly receptionists and unknowingly the owner Mitch Kersch. Upon describing the work I needed, Mitch himself came to my home, which is not too far from the office, and gave me a fair estimate the same day. I shopped around like any normal homeowner would do, but Mitch was the only person who wasn't pushy, badmouth other contractors/companies, and did not try to sell me things unnecessary. I had called TriState Windows, and had one of the most horrible experiences to date with their salesman, whom was extremely rude, pushy, literally had a book on other companies relate to his, showing their reviews, BBB complaints, and tried to prove so hard how great his company warranty is. TriState called me at least 6 times trying to persuade me to go with them, but when I told them I was going with Major Homes, he cursed for "wasting his time" and wished me luck for a bad job I will get. Upon agreeing on the price with Mitch and giving him the deposit, work began in approximately six weeks in my house. The work included: new front door, complete overhaul of the sun/Florida room, which included: new roof, siding, windows,and sliding door. Each individual job had its own professional crew, and completed in a very timely and neat fashion. Today was the final day for completion which included gutter installation, which I later agreed to do for the entire house, and Mitch showed up himself and made sure all was to my satisfaction. We had 50 windows replaced in our 90 year old house. They are a distributor for OKNA windows. After seeing and not at all liking the design of Anderson, I was relieved to find another brand with much better features that was excellent quality. The price was very fair. Chris and his crew came and worked like crazy! I had been very stressed about the process, and my own apartment in my 2 family house was filled with furniture. They were so nice, so accommodating, helpful, kind, and just excellent craftsmen. This process is a giant mess, and they did everything they could to clean up, disposed of everything. Very hard work, ladders and scaffolding outside, dealing with weather. The job was honestly perfect. I can't stop looking out my windows. They also did outdoor capping of existing wood frames. If you're thinking of doing it, don't delay, they of course take time to order, mine were about 5-6 weeks, my job was 3 days. Wrote a review for this company on another site, which is where I initially found them, stating how unprofessional the owner is because he kept calling the representative who came to my house to give me a quote. My review was 100% true and the owner, Mitch, decided to respond by stating that I ONLY wrote a complaint because they did not want to do my job. 1, I never stated that I didn't want an architect - I questioned the need for an architect when none of the 15+ other companies, big and small, mentioned the need for an architect. Don't you dare LIE and say I didn't want an architect or to apply for permits. I am perfectly willing to have all necessary paperwork done if there is a need. 2, Carl, the representative sent to my house, spoke to me as if I was some dumb housewife. Again, don't you DARE tell me how I felt or how your employee treated me. You were not there. I don't give a s* how long your company has been in business. Carl was demeaning and condescending. 3, During our consultation, Mitch called Carl twice. The first call, Carl told Mitch he was with a customer. Second call, Carl asked to be excused to speak outside with Mitch. Mitch, in his response regarding this issue, wrote "with all due respect, I do not care so much if YOU feel that I was rude for calling Carl. There was no way that I could have known Carl was with you or any other customer." As mentioned, Carl already told you he was with a customer so the second call was RUDE. And you SHOULD care. This company, especially Mitch and how he responds to criticism, is not a company you want to deal with. STAY FAR AWAY. I first used Major Homes over a decade ago when I bought my house. I renovated the kitchen and bath at the time and had them do the windows in those rooms, plus the bay window in the front of the house. As I recall, it was all done in one day with no hassle. In fact, the bay window developed a stress crack almost a year later, and they replaced at no cost to me. So, a decade later, I used them for the rest of the windows in the house (eighteen). Again, all the work was done in one day with no hassles. My only complaint is that the helper/clean up man missed a few spots in the last room they did. Having lived in Bayside my entire life and having had many projects completed from start to finish by Mitch and his team and Major Homes, I can say with out reservation that it is no wonder they have been in business for close to 100 years!!! The team at Major homes are professional, courteous and extremely responsive to questions and concerns, when it comes to home renovation, for both jobs that are both big and small. We have used Major homes for jobs as small as installing sliding doors, and aluminum siding, (Yes I said Aluminum..that is how long we have been using them...and keep going back for all of our needs) We have owned a two family home in Bayside for over 40 years and have had them do work on both our primary residence as well as our tenants apartments. I do not think that there is a room in our home that was not touched in one way or another by Major Homes, from Kitchens and Bathrooms to windows and siding. We have always been amazed at the quality and timeliness of there work, as well as how it has stood the test of time! we are extremely particular with the work we have done ..... quite frankly we are not easy people to work for.....we are demanding and savvy customers....so we do not let just anyone do the work in our home or that of our tenants of which we have had many throughout the years. We have been using Major Homes for many years, for replacement windows, new roof, and siding repairs after a storm. We now had a roof vent installed in our garage due to heat build up during the summer causing interior problems. The roofing foreman arrived to take a look at the job and was very polite and professional, he made some suggestions and told us we would get a call back with a quote. While he was here we asked if he could look at a replacement window that had been installed over ten years ago that had a problem with the lower sash staying in the retaining block. He checked it, tried to repair it but eventually replaced the block with a new one, all at NO charge and a big smile. Needless to say we were pleasantly surprised. The garage roof ridge vent was installed quickly and professionally a few days later, and they left the area cleaner than when they got here. What more can you ask for. I have recommended them to our friends and I know they have done two bathrooms and our friends were very happy with the work. I would not hesitate recommending them again. read more

This review is long overdue. I had the pleasure of working with Budd Shamrock and our architect, Bernard Rogers. We dormered up, added a porch, terrace and replaced existing bathrooms. I did shop around and received cheaper estimates but ya know the 'ol sayin - you get what you pay for. (other contractors would come in lower but then they would throw in that certain things were not included in their estimate (containers; floors were not real wood). Others, it was simply crappy materials used so that's why the estimate was low. Cheap will ultimately be expensive! From inception to completion, all I can say is WOW! The workers in every department - demolition, roofing, carpentry, plumbing, electric and concrete are all amazing. They take pride in their work and work very clean. The communication with all was truly appreciated as they had to listen to us and my parents as well (sorry guys!). When something unexpected came up, we were always spoken to about options and they were all amazing in recommending what the better option would be. It is 3 years later and we are still so very happy with everything. We will be needing new windows and doors for the first floor. Budd, I'll be calling in March! If no stars was available, they would get THAT.. 10 years ago, I spent $11,000 on 21 windows with Major Homes. I was told I would get a lifetime warranty on the windows and would get a technician to repair any of the locks, handle or anything related to the window. I called them on Monday, February 22 letting them know that I was getting condensation in 5 of the windows and needed replacements. Today, February 25, 2015, I get a letter from Major Homes stating the following" I received a message that you (forgot to add "are") having some issues with windows that you purchased from Major Homes. Unfortunately the independent manufacturer of the windows you purchased from Major Homes is no longer in business and therefore the guarantee on the windows your purchased is no longer in affect. The manufacturer's warranty is not considered the responsibility of Major Homes and, as per our signed contractor, our labor is guaranteed for one year. Last month was the 6th time that Major Homes has done work for us: this includes installation of 12 windows on 3 occasions, 3 doors on one occasion, replacing gutters on one occasion, and cleaning gutters on one occasion. Each time the service was done well within the promised time, and done exceedingly well with excellent materials. The employees were always courteous and willing to attend to our special needs. I was particularly impressed with the courtesy, patience, and knowledge of architecture, materials and products of Carl Dipresso, the salesman who took our recent order for doors and windows. In particular he knew exactly what special changes had to be made in the doorway architecture to assure that a new door would be made wide enough for my wife to be able to get through with her wide walker. read more

My experience with Major Homes blew my mind. I'm a do-it-yourselfer who needed new replacement windows but has a limited budget. I decided to get Okna Windows because they have outstanding insulation and air-leakage ratings on Energy Star's website, they come with a lifetime warranty, and are nearly every top contractor's shortlist of high-end vinyl window manufacturers (top three of hundreds of vinyl window manufacturers and made in PA). I called Okna Windows to find a distributor and they directed me to Major Homes. I reluctantly called Major Homes, fearing that they would sell the windows to me only if they do the install. The woman who answered the phone was extremely professional and courteous, like nothing I am used to when dealing with blue-collar businesses. Next, I spoke with Jason Kersch. He was equally professional and he was happy to sell me five Okna Windows directly. He gave me a price I knew was excellent for premium vinyl windows (only a little more money than the horribly rated Anderson replacement windows at Home Depot). When I stopped by their Bayside, NY store I spoke with the owner, Mitchell Kersch. He was friendly and funny and made every effort to help. I told him I going to remove five old windows and found someone who was going to install and cap (install aluminum flashing around the window) the new ones. He spent about 20 minutes educating me on how to install the windows properly so that I could make sure my installer does a good job. He told me to let him know when I was having them installed and he would try to be there (It's a 25-minute drive to my place). It made me feel good but I didn't expect him to actually follow through on his kind offer. I emailed Mitchell a week later and told him that the installer was coming on Saturday morning, two days after Thanksgiving. Guess what? Mitchell came. He spoke to my installer and supervised some of his work. I'm sure the installer was on his toes. Mitchell said that my guy was doing a very good job. It was obvious that Mitchell had zero consideration about his profit margin on this job. He was 100% focused on providing me with the ultimate in customer service. I am incredibly thankful to Mitchell and Major Homes. On his way out, he said that he would appreciate it if I recommend him, even for small jobs. The reason Major Homes does so many big jobs is that they will bend over backward for you even on a small job. I told Mitchell I'll recommend them all day long and potential customers are free to contact me. This company is truly incredible! read more
