I came here with my mom, as it's a close sushi spot to my house. The roll we had was delicious, and the service was top notch. Everyone there was super friendly. I wish they did a little more with the decor; but the food, relatively low prices, and convenience made up for it.
This spot has been consistently solid. Their sushi is incredible, honestly, better than most places I've tried. We've only ordered sushi for takeout so far, and it's always fresh and flavorful, so I can only imagine how good it must be when dining in. Now, why haven't we eaten inside yet? Well... the one time we tried, we were seated next to someone who had a bit too much sake. Since I had my daughter with me, it didn't feel like the right setting for a family night out, so we decided to leave. I wish the waiter would have kind of notice that another table/section would have been better. Or limit the alcohol intake as this is not a bar. Their bento boxes, though? Amazing. I highly recommend them! I don't recommend the ramen. That's what we ordered during that short dine-in attempt, and the to-go ramen unfortunately didn't hit the mark for us. Maybe it's one of those dishes that's much better enjoyed fresh at the restaurant. There's plenty of parking, indoor and outdoor seating, and the space is handicap-friendly. The prices are great, too. Overall, definitely worth trying, especially for the sushi and bento boxes!
Been going here for a long time. Always good food and friendly service. They recently started doing AYCE. I think it's $38 per person for dinner and a few dollars less for lunch. The only caveat is if they're short handed on the chef they will not offer it. The carpaccio cuts and nigiri rolls are my favorite. I was starving so I only took one pic.
I enjoy sushi a lot. I go to (AYCE) All-You-Can-Eat Sushi spots all the time. They typically have a rule where if you don't eat all the sushi, you have to pay for it. It's kind of a normal rule. However, this place had so many rules here, they even had a couple workers come by to explain the rules and also warned us not to break the rules several times. I wasn't worried about the rules, but every time I saw my two different servers, I was warned about the rules. I think this restaurant just added the AYCE, I'm not sure (so they're probably still working out the kinks, but AYCE seems new at this place. The menu I was looking at did not have an AYCE menu, so I had to determine which rolls on the order paper were the ones on the menu, sometimes the names were very similar to the menu compared to the paper but they weren't the same. I kept finding myself saying "oops, that's not on the AYCE menu" so ordering took a lot longer and the server kept checking on us before we placed our order, I was starting to feel rushed. After we finally placed our order, it was wrong because we broke one of the many rules. So they helped us change the order. Otherwise, the service was really good, we always had our drinks full and always had a server helping us or giving us attention. For me the no-rice sushi was like putting a wad of spicy tuna in my mouth and squirting some sauce in there. It tasted like a mess and it looked like a mess too. The salmon roll and salmon (I forget the name looks like sashimi but not sashimi) was good, but the same sauce was added on the tuna and albacore (sashimi), the sauce didn't go well with the tuna and albacore, but was good with the salmon. The eel nigiri was delicious, but don't order the eel roll, there was hardly any eel on it (I think I had more eel on my little nigiri than I had on the entire roll, you can see the picture with mostly spicy tuna). One of the regulars recommended a hand roll, I should've ordered it instead of the rolls. The appetizer Spicy Tuna Crunch (fried rice) with spicy tuna and jalapeño on top was REALLY GOOD, probably the best I've ever had. The rolls were sub-par, I had a salmon roll that had two different color salmon on it. The squid nigiri tasted like it was drenched in sauce, I like nigiri squid where the squid should be the star not the sauce. The Tamago egg was delicious! I enjoy Salmon Roe Ikura and Masago, but these were giant portions of rice, the seaweed wrap barely fit or closed. I think they were too large (never thought I would say it was too large) it kind of overwhelmed me, but I still ate it. The best roll I had there was probably the Garlic Albacore Roll, the garlic was nicely cooked and went well with the albacore.
We come here for their extraordinary Poki Bowl and sushi rolls. Their Poki bowl has a fabulous dressing making the bowl a must have. They are very generous with the sashimi in the bowl. It is a meal in itself. It can be ordered with or without rice. We drive past many sushi places to come here. Very nice atmosphere too. I hope this review doesn't change that. The large size is hard to finish as it is quite large.
Finally got to try out their Sushi Wednesday promo! As always service was quick and welcoming. For sushi Wednesday, you get 20% off all the cut rolls and wine. For 3 rolls and 2 glasses of wine, we paid ~$62 before tip. The food was tasty but I prefer the bento boxes here! The rolls are so big that it is hard to eat in one bite, you'll have to bite your way through or attempt to eat it in one bite as it falls apart. Value wise, you do get way more food which is nice if you're going after quantity. However the experience of each piece falling apart or being too big to eat wasn't my favorite. Ended up eating each ingredient little by little. Would still come back but will opt for my usual bento box order or rolls with less ingredients.
I've been coming to this place since I was a kid with my parents, probably since I was 11, and now I'm 34! It's amazing to see it still going strong after all these years. They have the best miso soup and salad dressing I've ever had, kind of random, but it's something I've always loved here. The sushi and food are consistently delicious and satisfying. What really makes it special is the owner, she somehow always remembers me, even if I haven't been in for over a year or have moved away. No matter how much time passes or how different I look, she recognizes me every time I come back. That kind of warmth is rare. I've dined in and done takeout, and it's always clean, the staff is attentive and kind, and the service is great. I'm so happy to be moving back just down the street,I'll definitely be coming in more often!
Summary: Do not go here. The food isn't good, the people here are stuck up and rude. If you want to eat sushi, re-heated grocery store sushi would probably be a better option than having it served with trash talking servers. We went with 4 people and a toddler, bill was 275 sm dollars in total. But there was one problem, the sushi isn't good, it's mainly rice and filler which wouldn't be a problem if it just didn't taste good. It was lukewarm and rubbery, but its whatever we still ate its still food we ordered. But before that, we asked the manager at the time, old looking lady, how many sushi pieces per order, she said two per order. And me and my family were also fine with that. But then stacks of sushi came in, it was so much to the point where we looked at each other and wondered if it was even our order. We cancelled the rest of it and tried to finish the plates. The problem didn't occur until we talked to the manager and the server. We told her "I was told two pieces per order, yet why am I getting 8 a plate" the server asked her 'who told you that?' And my mom pointed to the manager, this server said, " it doesn't matter what she said to you if you look in the fine print, it says eight pieces" which then she laughs in our face. Which is weird because what do you mean it doesn't matter what the manager tells us? If we ask a question shouldn't we expect a correct answer? We also talked to the manager, who refused to talk to us, we told her there was multiple people who heard what she said to my mom, but the manager, only 3 minutes in to talking to us flings her arms up and grunted away. It was perplexing, nobody was really communicating with us, we were all really confused with what was going on and very alarmed at the amount of sushi we ordered. The total was 275, this includes tax, 3x fountain drinks 5$, and left over sushi we had. It was our own fault for not looking at the print closer, but when we ask the manager, she completely lied to us, and when we talked to the server and we had witnesses to the account of what the manager said, she completely disregarded us. And when we got up to get ready to check out, we started hearing them trash talk about us while we were leaving. It is absolutely perplexing and disrespectful to not only be told about something just for it to be something else, but then have service workers talking crap about us, which is such a childish thing to do including with their disregard in communicating with us. I truly have no words, this is not behavior that you would see from working class adults, but instead a bunch of teenagers. What right do you have to act like that? Grown women, running away from conversation and grunting like beasts then talking trash? Absolutely horrendous service. I did not expect grown adults to be acting that way. And also having to rely making most of your money on fine prints really does reflect the quality of your food. I can tell that this is not the first time that this situation has happened , i've looked over the reviews under this establishment, and I can see how rude the employees are. I've never seen grown adults act more trashy in my entire life, if I wanted to see an old lady fling her arms up in the air and grunt I would go to a retirement home.
Came here on a Thursday night and our party of two was seated immediately! I tried the Crunch Dragon Roll and I was worried that wasn't going to be enough food, especially for about $20 but the sushi was large! The fish tasted great. My only gripe was that the seaweed was very tough making it hard to chew. The servers were really attentive and kind, making sure to come around enough times. It's worth noting that they have discounts on Wednesdays so if you're thinking of coming on a weekday, come then! Would definitely return!
The service here is phenomenal!! Very attentive staff that care about their customers! The decorations are a mix of japanese and modern and they have a semi private area for a group of 6 or more Lunch Special Review: Had their tonkotsu ramen and it was good! No pork meat though. My wife had the beef bento box special and it's was superb and recommended for those that can't decide and want to try a little bit of everything. No wait time for us on Sunday at 2pm. Highly recommend a stop!
First time here and the service was excellent and the food was delicious! They have a nice menu assortment. The shishito peppers were the largest and tastiest I've ever had. I would say this is one of the better sushi places in Irvine for sure! Definitely will be coming back here.

Super underwhelming. The food here is so overpriced and terrible. Just terrible. The staff were incredibly rude as well. I ordered the poke bowl, and it came... without any fish! When I pointed it out, they argued that it was at the bottom of the bowl. I was sure there was none, and when they checked, they couldn't find it either! (Side note: they did eventually give me the fish) My friend ordered a combination bento, and the orange had MOLD on it! I couldn't believe it! Overall, I would say save your money and go elsewhere. Zero stars if I could! read more

Disappointing Experience for Our Large Group Our group of 15 goes out every Wednesday for sushi night, typically spending around $700 to $800. This week, our usual spot had a long wait, so we decided to try this new place. We called ahead to check the wait time and were told we could be seated in five minutes. True to their word, we were seated right away upon arrival, which we appreciated. However, the positives ended there. The service was just OK, and the food was subpar--not what we expected for the price we paid. But the most surprising part of the night was when we were informed around 8:15 PM that it was last call. By 8:30 PM, they began turning off the lights, signaling the end of service and essentially rushing us out. This was after we had already spent $815 on our meal. It felt like they were more interested in closing up than accommodating a group that had just spent a significant amount. It's a shame that they don't seem to value their customers, especially those who are willing to spend generously. If you're looking for a good dining experience with quality food and respectful service, I suggest looking elsewhere. We will certainly not be returning, and we'll be sure to spread the word about this disappointing experience. *** picture it was taken at 8:50 Doors were locked restaurant was closed read more

This place was just amazing! The sushi and rolls were so fresh and delicious.. the service and attention to detail was just speechless because they were so good! The restaurant including the facilities were clean. I have visited many sushi AYCE places BUT as u can tell i don't write reviews if the food and place were meh.. BUT this place is far above other places.. The price is very reasonable considering the quality of food that is presented. If u like good sushi with great service try this place! read more
Sushi restaurants are always a hit or miss. It can be the perfect sushi experience at a super expensive price, good sushi at a reasonable price, or just a total dud. Maizuru falls into the good sushi at a reasonable price, which is perfect when you're a Woodbridge/Oak Creek local. I ordered the sushi combo plate: 10 pieces of sushi, a crunchy roll, and a California roll. Plus, it comes with a miso soup. It's a lot of food for 1 person, but I finished it like a hungry seal. The sushi was shrimp, yellowtail, salmon, tuna, and mackerel. Shrimp - it's normal cooked shrimp, nothing fancy. Yellowtail - very good! Tender/melt-like texture. Salmon - very good! Generously marbled! Tuna - not good! Chewy and hard. Mackerel - very good! Toasted edges with sesame oil Crunchy roll - just a California roll with flakes California roll - ordinary. It's a good local spot. I wouldn't make a special trip from LA or anything. Not hip or trendy. The tuna was not good. But the yellowtail, salmon, mackerel was good! Great for local folks who just want to enjoy good sushi without the bells and whistles of a ikko, sugarfish, or nobu. read more

We go here for lunch once every couple months for the bento box. I love the salmon collar, sashimi and sesame chicken believe it's $25. Tried some sushi rolls and they were also great. The Salmon collars always grilled to perfection and no fishy smell. Service is decent no complain. Restaurant is casual not dressy. read more

Maizuru now has AYCE sushi! Not only can you choose the rolls, you can even order udon, tempura, teriyaki beef or chicken and much more. The quality of the sushi was excellent and the service was great! We came hungry and was sure we would go three rounds, but only made two rounds since we were stuffed! A+++++ and the price is reasonable for AYCE. Of course if you don't want AYCE, they gave other things like bento box and yakisoba. We are looking forward to going back on our next sushi craving! read more

Food: solid 8/10. The salmon was fresh for my roll. My hubby ordered their fried rice and said it was also "good, not great". Proportions were good as well. Very filling. Not too little and not too much. Service: 10/10. Addressed and seated right away during lunch hour. Waitress was friendly as expected. Atmosphere: 10/10. Spacious. Well-lit. Comfy booth seats. No complaints here. Good place to come for lunch with your colleagues. read more

We have amazing experience in Maizuru with my friend's family. We love sushi, especially the honeymoon one. That's one good for summer. Honeymoon is cucumber warped sushi without rice. One bite mixed with cucumber and sashimi. It's fresh and cool! We also love the garlic albacore rolls. The crisp garlic has special taste with albacore. Fresh ingredients, potions is large, overall, maizuru is good choice to have valuable sushi without spend too much money in Irvine. read more

Omg so fresh and great portion size. Prices are amazingly low and the quality high. What a great find. We used to like Taiko in the early days pre COVID but as most people know, that's not what it used to be. We finally, after so many years are grateful to have found our forever sushi bar. We love sitting with James at the bar. He takes great care of us and he's very nice. This should be 5 Stars on Yelp. Great!!! read more

This place was soooo good. The sushi was fresh & delicious. I've been a few times & each time, no matter how busy it was, the food came out so quickly. The service was great, before I even noticed my drink was empty it was being refilled. Staff made sure we were well taken care of & that the food was great. No complaints - I wish they had AYCE but I get most places don't. Pretty reasonably priced, as well. I will definitely be coming back here read more
I am really pleased to share with you my very positive experience here at Maizuru. It is tucked away in the center part of this strip mall, but sits amidst other eateries that are really good as well. However, on this occasion, Sushi was the food of choice. It appeared this evening that Maizuru was the local favorite as the place was pretty full (excluding the Sushi Bar) with patrons. The entrees that I saw were very plentiful and appeared to be prepared with authentic care. I settled in on a bottle of Sake to accompany my meal which was a perfect choice as it was on the dry side. For dinner, I ordered the Carpaccio (Yellow Tail), and the Sushi Plate that allows one to select from four choices of fish. I went with the Tuna, Yellowtail and Albacore. As you can see from the picture, the Carpaccio is served on a bed of shredded radish and topped with Ponzu and Jalapeno peppers. This fish was very fresh and not as spicy as could be as the peppers were absent any kind of kick. Tasty nevertheless. If I ordered this item in the future, I would ask for a side of Ponzu as a dipping option since the sauce was mostly absorbed in the radish. I used the soy/ginger bowl for dipping, but it was not the same. Don't be discouraged from ordering this as the fish was great quality. My second dish (apologies for not taking a picture) was a plate of Sashimi served on a bed of greens. Honestly, the greens were not something I was expecting, but was a nice change and was actually tasty as it was served with a light house dressing. The portions are very good as in thick and sufficient to make a good meal. All of the cuts were very fresh and ranked up there with solid spots other Sushi fans. To top this evening, I ordered a Salmon Skin handroll. This was very good and had an incredibly generous portion of freshly roasted Salmon. If anyone fancies a Salmon Skin handroll and you stop in, I highly encourage you to add it to your order. I was very graciously served by Sushi Chefs Eric and Nori (yes, that was his name) who steered me and others at the Sushi Bar on great options with good descriptions. My original plan was to try another spot, but had to change plans due to a miscommunication, but it totally worked out in the end with this very positive experience. If it's a Japanese entree or Sushi you are craving and are in the neighborhood, I really encourage you to give this a try. Parking is abundant and the service is prompt and friendly. Get's my recommendation vote for sure. Be well! read more

Came around 5:30p on a Sunday and it was pretty empty. Liked their 1/2 sized (4 pieces), 1/2 priced rolls so we could try different things. I would come back if in the area, but wouldn't go out of my way to come here. Aloha- I liked the combo of salmon and eel though I could barely taste the eel as it was a very thin slice. Genkians Irvine were both spicy and good. Baked Scallop- this was just okay compared to other restaurants. Some scallops were a bit overcooked. Spider- this was one of the bigger rolls if you want to be Fuller. read more
Overall great experience and service and great location. I live in LA and found this sushi place when I came over to Irvine. The servers were attentive and great at serving. The rolls that I got were Eel Special Roll, Garlic Albacore Roll, Irvine Roll, Baked Spicy Langostino Roll, Harbor Roll which were all amazing :) But my favorite are Irvine Roll and Garlic Albacore Roll. Each roll was unique to this sushi restaurant and the flavors hit the spot. Their fish are fresh which you can see from the colors especially the sashimi and poke salad were really goood. The tempura were well fried :) The teriyaki on the chicken teriyaki is made in the house which was a classic. Last, but not least seafood teppanyaki really complimented the meal with cooked stir fried vegetables. :) I will definitely take my friends and family again when I visit Irvine. :) read more

This business is a scam. Don't pick the AYCE or don't go here. It's just rice and rice and it's not good. I can't finish either 1 dish. Before give them the order, i asked how many pieces/order, they told me 2 pieces/order but it's 8 pieces/order and 1 piece is the haft size of a regular rice bow. I want to check the camera but they didn't agree. They told me why don't see carefully at the menu. But i don't really understand that why i was ask directly to them. They told me must to pay $64 extra for the leftovers and i can take all home. My son is 5 years old was charged for $21/kid. I usually eat the AYCE sushi restaurant in Hungtinton Beach, it's so good and doesn't have a lot of rice comparing to this place. I feel like i was trapped and was scam by them in here... poor business! The sushi in sam club is better than here! The bill was 300 for low quality sushi, I don't really recommend. read more

The best sushi spot in Irvine. I say this without a doubt. They have the best rolls in town. I have been going here for over 10 years now. Whether you're doing takeout or dining in, they will treat you with great service. They have had nearly the same staff since they opened. You can tell they work as a family. I love coming in here alone, with friends, my partner, or a my family. They have a good sake and beer selection, they have happy hour during the week. They also offer "half rolls" when dining in so that you can try more rolls or maybe you want some more but can't eat an entire roll, this is the best option and it is exactly half the price of a full roll. Love this place read more

How much is the AYCE?
Do they still have the half roll deal and what time do they have it?
I was told they do not have half order rolls any longer. Such a bummer.
