Working with Cakes in Style was a pleasure from beginning to end. Usually, I go into a supermarket…read moreand pick up a random cake for someone's birthday, so easy. Not so easy for picking out a wedding cake that will make or break your party and leave guests baffled. I was 90% done with wedding planning and left the cake for last. I didn't want to be bothered with hunting for a vendor, making multiple visits and who to trust. I finally googled a cake store nearby and found Cakes in Style in the Rockville, MD area, very convenient. I took my fiancé at the time to meet with the owner Robert. I made an appointment with Robert; we went in and were amazed. First off, we saw many samples on the counter as well as in his portfolio. Then we went over the logistics of the cake, he took down great notes, provided great suggestions, and was very enthusiastic about helping us. He was kind enough to provide us with an impromptu cake tasting. My fiancé had made up his mind by the end of the free consultation, he picked the design, and we were all set. Robert kept in touch with updates, provided easy and flexible methods of payment and he delivered the cake on time and in one piece. We have seen many cake fail videos but nothing be scared about with Cakes in Style. Our venue was familiar to the owner, so we felt comfortable working with him. We left the store happy and content. We had selected a Red Velvet Cake with a Cream filling, our guests mentioned that it was the best cake they have ever had. It tasted amazing as well as looked beautiful. Presentation and Detail were on spot. I highly recommend Cakes in Style to all and everyone looking for a cake for their special occasion. I will surely use their services again in the future. They treated us like family and not just some random customer walking through the door. Thank you, Robert and Lucia, for adding your magic to make our wedding magical.

However, when I picked up the cakes we noticed there was a small hairline crack in the crown but I figured it would be okay. We stored the cakes in a commercial fridge before it was time to sing happy birthday. When they took the cakes out, the crown was crumbling it's just a cake so I dismissed it. When it was time to eat the cake, we noticed nobody finished it. It wasn't until we came home and tasted it and it barely had flavor. We got the pistachio and raspberry. Pistachio was flavorless and raspberry was light but not flavorful. Customer service 10/10 Design 7/10 (because of the crown) Taste 5/10 They really did work with my budget so I'm wondering if maybe that was the compromise?

It's Honestly So Hard To Find Something Quick & Actually Good For Breakfast These Days. I Happened To Be In The Area And Remembered This Spot Was On My "Saved Places" List, So I Decided To Finally Give It A Try Especially Since I Was On A Time Crunch This Morning (Shoutout To St. Patrick's Day ). My Day Definitely Felt Lucky & Even More Blessed! Parking Was Easy Since It Was Early Morning. It's Street Parking With A Meter App, & I Believe There's Also A Nearby Lot For Busier Times. Walking In, The Space Felt Simple Yet So Inviting. Super Clean, Calm, & Just A Pleasant Environment Overall. The Kind Of Place That Immediately Feels Peaceful. While Waiting In Line, I Couldn't Help But Notice The Display Of Pastries.... Absolutely Beautiful. From Thin Cookies To Buttery, Golden Croissants And Donuts... Everything Looked Fresh, Perfectly Made, & Honestly Hard To Choose From. Plus, Prices Were Very Reasonable For The Quality. AVOCADO EGG & CHEESE CROISSANT SANDWICH - $12 Fluffy Scrambled Eggs, Fresh Sliced Avocado, Swiss & American Cheese On A Buttery, Perfectly Toasted Croissant With A Slightly Sweet & Savory Aioli. Let Me Tell You This Was By Far The Best Croissant Breakfast Sandwich I've Ever Had!!!!!!!! No Exaggeration. My Jaw Literally Dropped. Every Bite Was Rich, Flavorful, And Perfectly Balanced. The Croissant Was Flaky Yet Soft, The Eggs Were Light & Fluffy, & That Aioli Brought Everything Together. Kisses To The Chef ‍ Because They Really Did Their Thing On This. WOW. CHOCOLATE DIPPED BISCOTTI - $3 House-Made, Buttery, Crunchy, & So Satisfying. The Chocolate Side Was Rich And Delicious, But Honestly? Even The Plain Side Was Incredible On Its Own. Perfect Pairing With A Hot Drink Or Just As A Snack. HOT COCOA (Oatmilk) - $5 They Didn't Have Whipped Cream, So I Wasn't Expecting Much... But Wow, I Was So Wrong. It Came In A Nice-Sized Mug With A Beautiful Heart Design On Top... That Alone Stole My Heart . But Then The First Sip? Smooth, Rich, & So Damn Good. It Completely Surprised Me In The Best Way. Definitely One Of Those "Don't Judge It Until You Try It" Moments. The Staff Were Nice And Helpful. You Can Tell They Take Their Time To Get Everything Right, From The Food To The Overall Experience & It's Absolutely Worth The Wait. I'm Honestly Still In Disbelief At How Good Everything Was. The Food, The Atmosphere, The Experience... All Top Tier. I'm Lowkey Mad I Didn't Come Here Sooner, But This Is Definitely One Of My New Favorite Spots. I'll Be Putting Everyone I Know Onto This Place. I'll Absolutely Be Back & I'm Already Hoping They Open A Location Closer To Me.

Cookies were tasty. We got the chocolate chunk cookie and the chocolate oatmeal cookie. Line wasn't long at 1PM on a Friday. I also felt like the cashier was just trying to get us in and out very quickly but I understand because the line does get long. Just used to a more chill, personable experience. I visited the store on a Saturday afternoon. For those readers who are not familiar with the brand, King Arthur Baking Company is a well-known brand specializing in high-quality flours and other baking ingredients. They are particularly known for their unbleached, high-protein all-purpose flour and various other specialty flours like bread flour, cake flour, and gluten-free options. King Arthur is also recognized for its commitment to quality control, ingredients sourcing, and its history as a 100% employee-owned company. This store has an utilitarian decoration, with shelves and rows displaying a dizzying variety of King Arthur Flour products: boxed mixes for scones, muffins, breads and cookies of every kind. On display were also a variety of baking instruments, such as mixers (such as the Ankarsrum Original stand mixer, a famous Swedish known for their unique designs), measure spoons, containers, etc. The establishment was practically empty, with at least three employees, one of them engaged in animated conversation with someone whom may have been a client. The other two employees were behind the cashier counter, also engaged in a vary animated conversation... With each other. I walked around the store for about 20 minutes, taking pictures and making myself known. My expectation was that at least one of the employees would approach me to ask if I needed help. After all, this was a "pop-up" store, and companies, restaurants and shops temporarily open these as an branding excercise. I was not approached or even acknowledged by any of the people at the store. I hope that this behavior is an outlier for this store, because if this is what King Arthur Baking's customer service is, I do not foresee lasting much longer. Pictures attached.

It's clean and simple - just well stocked shelves and friendly staff. The employees checked if we needed help and were ready to explain all the 500 varieties of flour. (But then left us alone to shop) All good bakers know that King Arthur is a cut above every other brand. PLUS they're 100% employee owned and legitimately care about maintaining product quality over profit. If you're sick of everything getting crappier while corporations jack up prices, come spend money at one of the few companies doing things the right way. And then go spend money at Penzeys, which is also top quality with ethical ownership. :)

The person, that I spoke to on the phone got the jar confused with the Low Sodium jar. This location does not carry the Sensetive Stomach recipe. I walk with a cane. Antibiotics can take good bacteria, as well as bad bacteria out of a patient's stomach. The Sensetive Stomach sauce would be less likely to cause me problems even though I do take a probiotic. They did however, carry that product from another brand RAO's. It was a lot more expensive. Kristen, the manager gave me truly outstanding customer service when she allowed me to get the more expensive brand at the price of the product that I came in there for. Kristen actually had to call another store to check the price of that product. It was a significant savings for me. I commend Kristen on providing outstanding customer service.

You pick your pastries from the self-serve shelves. Some items looked like they had been sitting out for a while and were a little dry, while others had just been restocked and looked much fresher. Most of the selection leans toward buttery, laminated pastries, such as croissants, Danishes, and croffles rather than baguettes or rolls. They also have fresh cakes displayed near the counter. The two pastries we had were both good and satisfying. The pain aux raisins had a moist texture with a gentle sweetness. The croffle itself was nicely buttery and delicious, although the cream on top was a bit too heavy for my taste. Prices felt reasonable for the quality and location. Service was quick and friendly. Unfortunately, the coffee was only lukewarm, which was a letdown. Parking really depends on the time and day. We were lucky to find a spot right in front, but the plaza gets busy since there are several popular stores/restaurants, so it can be competitive if you're aiming to park close by. Overall, I'm happy to have another French-inspired Asian bakery option in Rockville.
