I wanted to get my first set of eyelash extensions for a special event that I was attending and didn't realize how quickly a lot of spots get booked up in advance. Thankfully MDL had availability and they even threw in a happy hour special for the 80 lashes / first-timer special. The space is very clean and calm. I bought a Groupon for 110 lashes. I called two weeks before I wanted the actual appointment. They said they were all booked up for the week for anything after 5:30. Since I had just bought the Groupon the same day I tried to make the appointment, I offered to just cancel my Groupon, since that was the only week I wanted to go (wanted to get a fresh set of lashes right before going to Hawaii). After I said that, a 6 pm appointment magically freed up. Fishy but whatever. So I go in for my appointment and it wasn't even busy at that time. The procedure was fine - didn't really feel any tugging. I went with the sexy style 12s and it wasn't as noticeable as I would have liked it to be. Fast forward about three days - I've just arrived in Hawaii. Hadn't used any greasy sunscreens, hadn't done any swimming or sweating, and most of my lashes are already falling out from just washing my face with water. One week later, all the extensions have basically fallen out, save for a few that are clinging on for dear life, thus making me look like a crazy person. I don't know if they use lower quality lashes/glue for Grouponers or what, but I will not be returning to find out. A great little spot with helpful, friendly staff! This place is Japanese owned and my technician Mieko, was also Japanese. She was so sweet and kind and did an incredible job! I came here to get my lashes done for my wedding and everything turned out beautifully. I had a relaxing nap as she worked on my lashes. Originally I had gone for lengths of 10-12, but as she was placing the lashes, she made the game time decision to keep it to 10-11 as 12 was too long. Btw, there's a $5 "activation fee" for the groupon, which I didn't see mentioned anywhere on the groupon. It was a bit of a turnoff, but it was still a great deal. My technician was Nanae, she was extremely gentle and recommended the 8-11 size and C curve lashes for me. I actually fell asleep while she placed the lashes on because I was so comfortable. The process took about 90 minutes. They also give you a little brush afterwards to keep your lashes perky. When I got home I actually noticed that there seemed to be 2 gaps in one of my eyelashes. Nanae had asked if it looked okay when she was done, but I hadn't noticed at the salon because I was so excited about the dramatic difference. This was my first experience with lash extensions and I'm very happy to say it has been a pleasant experience. The day of my appointment I was 12 minutes late due to unexpected traffic (I did call in to say I was on my way) and I was fearful of being scolded or given an attitude from the employees based on others' reviews. Thankfully that was not the case. The woman at the front desk/register was so polite and kind, as was the technician who serviced me. The place is one large room with several beds in a row that have orthopedic pillows for under your knee/legs and for your head of course, and a incredibly comfy down comforter. In front of each bed is a basket where you place your belongings. There is soft music playing. Before taking you to your bed, the technician greets you in the waiting area and asses your natural eyelashes and discusses what your desired outcome is while showing you the different options. I went with 80 lashes per eye , J-curl, and a natural look with longest lashes in the center using lash sizes 8,9,10. The process begins with small pieces of tape being placed around your eyelids as well as an under-eye mask. I had no issue with this step. She placed the tape slowly and carefully so I was not worried or uncomfortable at any moment. The entire process took just under 2 hours. The most difficult part for me was sitting still. The last 30 minutes I felt very fidgety. It surprised me how much effort it took me to keep my eyes closed and lay still for so long when I wasn't tired. This is my third day with them and so far I've only lost 2 lashes which I think is pretty good. After they get wet from the shower you have to brush them with a mascara wand because they get a little wonky. The one thing I don't like about them is when I wear eye makeup -especially eyeliner- it's so hard to clean entirely by the lash line because I'm afraid of getting too much makeup remover on my lashes which could break down the adhesive on the lashes and cause them to fall out sooner. I came in on a Friday afternoon. It was empty and I was asked to do a quick survey. When I finished the technician came out with different lash sizes for me to choose and she was very great at explaining and helping me choose my size. After choosing my size, 10,11,12 she walked me to one of the beds, which was very comfy. I was told to close my eyes and the whole process began. I felt no pain what so ever. No discomfort. I fell asleep in and out. And it was all relaxing. She was very careful and gentle. I did not get my technicians name which I should have! I've been a client of Maison de Lash off and on for a few years now. They always do an amazing job, and best of all, they really take the time and listen to you as you convey the lash look you desire. I was a bit nervous on my most recent visit to MdL because I wanted to try C-curl lashes (I normally do pretty short J-curl 60-65 lashes top only) and I was worried they wouldn't look natural enough for me. I'm someone who likes a very minimal, natural look. So I explained to Aiko what I wanted and based on my file (they keep exceptional records and notes), she described a few different options, going into great detail. Once I decided, Aiko got started, and I got to sleep. About an hour later, she was finished. I looked in the mirror and I was a little surprised. My lashes seemed very dramatic and long to me. I was not thrilled, but I k ow I always feel like I look weird right after the lashes have been applied. Anyway, the next day I woke up loving my look. I think the lashes just needed to "settle" a bit. Once I washed my face, the lashes were perfect and I have never been SO happy with my lashes! Each day I can just get up and go. Great experience here. Got some inspiration off their instagram page pre visit so I had a good idea what I was looking for. I had a groupon and it was suggested to upgrade to a higher premium but definitely not pushed. I went for it, because why not. The technician made some great suggestions on what I should go with. I highly advise having a few pictures of what you're looking for because it made it much easier, especially if you're a newbie. They follow all the important guidelines across sanitation. My entire 160 lash set took an hour and I had one of the best naps of the year during my treatment. When I left they handed me an envelope with print out instructions and a brush - very important. I liked that they didn't have too many options. They use one type of lash, you can upgrade on thickness, and then length and curl is your preference. Made the whole process easy. I've had my lashes done a few times in the past with another spot in union square with no issues. I got the Groupon and came here due to good reviews. The two stars is being the girls were very nice and friendly. However at the start I felt my right eye burning ... I thought okay no big deal but it got bad so I spoke up midway. She said it was normal. When it was over my one eye killed ( the other felt great ) so I opened my eyes and noticed some white debris in my eye and it was blood shot. Came here last night with a Groupon. The girls were friendly but the place seemed very odd to me. There are about 4-5 beds right next to each other in one room and it was so quiet. I felt like I couldn't even speak up if I had a question because it was pretty much deathly silent in there. No music or breathing... I got the C curl with lengths between 8-10 and the gorgeous look. It definitely felt a little uncomfortable as she applied all those tapes to my eyes but after a while, it didn't really bother me as much. The reason why I took off three stars is because: - towards the end, while she was prodding the eyelashes, she actually jabbed my eye to the point that it stung till after I left the building. I was actually a little worried that it might be bleeding or something because it hurt that badly. But I couldn't say anything because NO ONE was talking and it was so stifling. - for some reason, she was snipping at the lashes. I'm not sure why she was doing this since I clearly picked a few different lengths and as a lash company, they should have those lengths in stock rather than trim it to the desired length. Either that or she cut them down shorter than what I had originally asked for. Regardless, it was really weird and it made my lashes look more choppy as opposed to the ends looking pointy - main reason: the lashes look SO FAKE. I'm not sure what quality eyelashes they use but they're definitely not as soft or natural looking as other places. I've only gotten eyelashes done once but it was super natural looking but longer. These lashes look super fake and synthetic. My manager actually asked me if those were fake lashes as opposed to eyelash extensions. That's how fake they look. I originally wanted a 14-15 length mix of C curl but koto talked me into 13-14 mix of C. I'm so happy I took her advice. I went to Maison de Lash for the second time yesterday and it's still as awesome as ever. The first time, I used a gilt city voucher. Noriko (sp?) did my lashes and was extremely thorough and patient. I said that I'd like them to last as long as possible and I kinda liked a bit of glam but didn't want them to look insane, so she assessed my eyes and lashes and suggested I get the J (straighter) curl in 9, 10, 11. She didn't try to upsell me into getting more lashes; in fact, she was very honest and said that since I didn't have tons of lashes, I probably couldn't handle more than 110 per eye anyway and that they'd fall out faster. If only all beauty and spa places tried to save you $$$ like this! The experience itself was great. I put my bag in the basket and was tucked into "bed". That pillow under the knees hit the spot. I don't think I'd be able to lie straight on my back for 90+ minutes without getting squirmy and uncomfortable. The under eye pads went on and the lashes deftly were applied. After dozing off for a bit, Noriko gently removed the excess glue to slowly open my eyes. My eyes weren't irritated at all, and my lashes looked amazing. Loved them. They looked natural with that bit of "pop" that I wanted. AND when the under eye pads were removed, my skin didn't feel like it was being ripped off either. She's super skilled and super gentle. And her recommendation for the curl and the length and number of lashes were spot on: my lashes lasted for almost 6 weeks before I had to start trimming the stragglers that were growing out weird. The second time, I brought my sister. She's getting married and was thinking of applying fake lashes for the big day, but I had been raving about Maison de Lash and said how it would save her tons of time to have extensions and how they'd last for her honeymoon and how clean and awesome this place was... so she made an appointment to try it out. Coincidentally, there was ANOTHER gilt city deal offered so she bought it. My sister chose to get the C (curlier) lashes that went from 9 on the ends to 11 in the middle. I had Noriko again and got the same J curl flared look. BTW, they had my file on hand showing the last time I came in, which style and size lashes I had, who my specialist was, etc so when I asked for "same as last time" I got exactly that. Did I mention how thorough this place was? After 90 minutes, my sister and I paid and thanked everyone profusely and stared and blinked at each other in the lobby (there are convenient mirrors by the elevators). We looked like complete weirdos analyzing each other's eyes with our faces 4 inches away from each other, but whatever. She looked fab and the lashes totally suited her. I was like, "Dude... It is the grand FIRST time writing a review on yelp. I forget things very quickly and try not to recall unpleasant things over and over. Although there have been several times I wanted to write a review on yelp when I received a bad service I didnt post anything, but this time I couldn't resist. I bought the gilt city voucher for 80 lashes per eye. The taping issue as the other yelper mentioned - my left eye was very itchy throughout the entire procedure. The technician didnt put 80 lashes per eye - I asked her if she applied 80 or not before i stepped out because it was way too obvious that I didnt get 80 per eye. She said i didnt have enough lashes. Thats fine but i paid 80 per eye and she didnt comment anything until I asked her. To me she should have at least told me about it or tried to accomodate the price. Still thats fine because i bought a gilt city deal. On the second day i lost about 10 lashes. Ridiculous. I called in and they were willing to fix it. The only reason why I gave them 2 stars instead of 1. I went in again to get lashes fixed but on that day the other technician put tapes onto my under eye area directly without any collagen mask. Probably because i am a mad customer who came to fix lashes? Taping directly under my eye... that hurt a lot when she took it off. Under eye area has been irritated since then. It's been 10 days since i got the lashes done - Only half left. I wonder why there are way too many good reviews on this salon. I have been to more than 5 lash salons in the nyc and even in Asia... How an establishment treats its unsatisfied customers tells a great deal about the business. I purchased a groupon for 110 lashes per eye, called ahead a week or so to get an appointment on the weekend. My lady (forgot her name) and I discussed before beginning and decided on 10 for my inner lashes, 12 for my middle lashes and 11 for my outer lashes to enhance my round shaped eyes. We were done after about 90 minutes. After I got home, I started to second guess my decision. Because of the fact that they don't recommend wearing mascara at all with lash extensions, I've found my lashes to be about the same length with mascara on. And obviously less thick and dark looking. Therefore it was too natural for my taste. I called back first thing the next morning. And another lady kindly explained that they can add longer lashes to my eyes if I had more of my own lashes left empty. If not, removing the lashes from yesterday might damage my natural lashes depending on my own hair strength. Then she said she could help me now if I could come in right away. I went back and she suggested we can add 14 to some of my left over blank lashes. I agreed and after 15 minutes it was done. She was patient and kind. As I was leaving I asked if we were all good (if I had to pay anything additional) she said yes all good. Let me start by saying: I really love this place! I've been looking for good eyelash places for a while (see my previous comments). This one is the best so far. Since I just got my lashes today, I cannot comment on the durability of these lashes (I'll update on this as time goes by). Instead, here are a few things I really like about this place and my girl Mariko ( hope I spelt it correctly!). 1) the place is quiet, nice, clean and relaxing. Comforting music in the background and everybody talks in a very soft manner if they have to. 2) the technician is GENTLE. I hate it when my under-eye areas has to be covered by tapes ( I don't know why so many salons in the US do this), but here it is done in a better fashion: eye masks instead of tapes. These eye masks makes the experience comfortable and relaxing. Mariko is also gentle with her work that I felt asleep twice. 3) She cares about your lashes. During my service, I inquired about under-eye lash extensions and if I could have a fuller extension for 110 lashes each. Keep in mind, these are all price-increasing services. Mariko gave me the most honest and detailed answer I would ever expect. You have to trust a stranger hovering over you for an hour and a half, putting glue near your eyeballs. All while having your eyes closed with tape on them. In fact I can't believe I actually let a stranger do that. Doing something strange for some change ain't no thang but... LOL All that to say... THIS PLACE IS THE REAL DEAL. Amazing! I tried getting an appointment once and they were like they were booked for the month. I was like " :-O " A young lady named Mayou (or something close to that. sorry for butchering your name if she reads this LOL). She did a stellar job. She asked me specifically what I wanted. I got 80 C-curl with a cat eye ranging from 9-10-11mm. I put some RnB tunes on and she was done within an hour. Completely painless and honestly I didn't even feel her there at all. Its been a little over a week and I've lost maybe 7 lashes in total on both eyes. Maybe 2 of them were attached to my real lashes. But that's the Circle of Life! Water has not been anywhere near my eyes except when I sweat at the gym. I sleep like that little girl from 'The Exorcist'. I try to sleep on my back but I normally wake up hanging from the ceiling. So we can agree these lashes are durable. I get MANY compliments. In fact my weirdo friends come up to me and stare trying to figure out what is different about me. None of their business. I've been to a ton of lash places and I have to say that this place is SO solid. It's been about 3 weeks since I had my lashes done and most of them are still in. AMAZING. The space is small and quiet, located in an office building. The ladies that work there are really nice and let me put in my headphones and get comfortable before they started. The process is pretty much the same at this place v. others. There are times when it can get uncomfortable and the glue might sting your eyes a little while it's drying. Nothing out of the ordinary. They do use a really nice and natural looking lash- it's not as thick as some of the places that I've been before and they're softer which make them a lot more comfortable to have on the eyes. I got my eyelashes done here with a deal voucher (80 per eye) last week, and had a pleasant experience. It's on the 7th floor of an old building, but once you go inside it's a beautifully decorated room with 4 comfortable fluffed up beds with blankets and pillows and a basket to put your stuff in. Summary: - the place is really clean - employees were very polite and friendly - they don't rush you at all. I arrived a couple of minutes late for my appointment, and they were so nice and accommodating about it. - the eyelash job was very precise and not messy at all - took about 2 hrs for my set I think they did a great job! My eyes look very natural, and you can barely see any glue at all. The regular price is a bit hefty, but the quality is indeed very good. I've been to some cheaper places where they don't even clean up and remove the excess glue from the eyelashes. read more

I was nervous about getting my lashes done since I'm sensitive about my eyes but I gave Maison de Lash a chance at the beginning of 2017 after using their discount on Groupon and I'm happy to say I'm a regular customer. The staff members are always kind and accommodating not to mention they're gentle with your eyes. My eyes aren't burning or irritated after my appointments (which I was afraid of). I've recommended this place to family and friends after compliments because the lashes look so natural and beautiful. Sometimes they've lasted longer than the touch up appointments.
