I go to The Mainzer twice a week. Usually do dinner once a week and a weekend brunch. The best service in Merced, fast, friendly and very attentive. I have always had great food and my husband loves the Beer Wall. Glad to hear they are opened for indoor dining and soon the entertainment center will be open, bands, movies and other live entertainment. read more

Someone in my party ordered fries and I would argue they didn't have enough salt, that could be me used to McDonald's though--lol. I have been to the mainzer a couple of times and the service was amazing. The food is good, but in the past the service was so personable and just great, that and the ambiance is what brought me back. This week I ate at the mainzer with friends and we had such unbelievably bad service. One person in our party ordered an item and quickly asked to change her item (when I say quickly I mean the server was still at the table taking other orders.) The server (actually I believe she was a manager?) told her the order was sent on her tablet to the kitchen already and was being made so she could not change her order. That was shocking to me. Even if the item was being cooked at that moment....customer service wise you can take the hit of that one item being scrapped especially when you consider the number of $11 drinks we were buying. It wasn't just the response "we can't change your order" - it was also the attitude and that attitude seemed to rule over our dining experience. I've heard it called being "stuck on no." Where we were sitting was pretty hot and we asked for an umbrella to be moved and even told the staff we would be willing to move it. They said they would move it but never came back so we all had to keep moving seats so we were not burning in the sun. In addition, drinks took a long time, food was triple charged on one bill and we were told we would have to cash out before we were ready to leave due to a shift change (I always find this tacky.) I know the mainzer has so much potential and was great in the past. Whatever has recently changed with management or customer service , I hope can be fixed! read more

We ordered take out yesterday and all the food was amazing! I ordered the 1/2 bucket of Nashville hot fried chicken. The coating was light and the spice was just right. My 2 buddies both ordered burgers, The Royale and the The BBQ burger. They both said it was one of the best burgers they ever had. We ordered with Brandy and she was awesome! She knew the menu and the whole place like the back of her hand! She gave us some history on the theater and the Tioga across the street that gave us a greater appreciation to the vibe this restored/new venue brings to Merced. Spot on, everything! The Mainzer is simply an oddball joint for Merced. It is absolutely outside of anything else in town & that is fantastic! There's a game room filled with cool stuff to have a little fun. There's a full theater screen where they set up restaurant seating the day we had brunch. They will also be showing movies with much more comfortable seating in couches not megaplex folders. I didn't have beer this visit but they have a self-serve beer lineup that has great variety with quality brews. We took my friend, her kid & their roommate to brunch for the roommate's birthday. The food was outstanding! The kid wiped out his French toast. He's not even 2 yet so, he didn't exactly rave about it but that meal didn't stand a chance of getting away. It was so good he danced about it afterwards. The ladies both had the chicken & waffles. Fortunately, I get to finish anything my lovely ladyfriend orders & that stuff was amazing. We're big fans of Roscoe's & there is no attempt to reach that legendary magnitude but this stuff equally excelled...just differently. The waffles were the big Belgian type. They kept some crunch even with whatever sauce was on the plate & maple syrup added. I didn't look closely & I didn't ask what the little bits on the waffles were but those things were really tasty. The chicken was breaded & fried tenders. They were perfectly prepared. They didn't jack it up & dry out the juicy, white meat. The portion is hearty. You get the full waffle, not just 2 wedges like some cheap places will serve. There were 2 chicken strips that were pretty much an entire breast. The roommate & I had the biscuit with gravy. WOW! It's a chorizo gravy so, you're probably going to be caught off guard by the chorizo color when your plate promptly arrives. You've not had this deliciousness unless you already had it at The Mainzer. This is some boldly flavored gravy. My thing is to add hot sauce & pepper to biscuits & gravy. Everyone should because that's just the right thing to do. At The Mainzer, the spice is already in there. It's not super spicy, because it's just chorizo, but it's right on the money for flavor. The biscuit isn't a huge fluffy puck & that was just fine with me. It's dense, crispy & perfect for that gravy. I'm a fat kid. I'm all about the gravy. The biscuit is of little importance to me. The gravy is the superstar as it should be. The dish is topped with perfectly poached eggs. No runny mess just exactly how a poached egg should always be. The Mainzer has the Double Bubble mimosas available for brunch. These are huge glasses with just a splash of juice. We went with peach & blueberry juices that were just enough to give the slightest, fruity flavor. These drinks are very reasonably priced for the generous pour of sparkles we got. I wholeheartedly encourage the Double Bubble. Let me tell you about Brittney. Somehow, Brittney is new to restaurant service. She is already phenomenal. Talk about super personable! She will make you feel as comfortable as can be. She's highly attentive & made sure everything went the way it should. Honestly, Brittney took such great care of us we were almost to the point of asking if there was anything we could get for her to have as good of an experience as we'd had. (Brittney, the 8-ball socks are made by Active.) There's a whole different thing happening at The Mainzer & it's not just to be weird. It's really good stuff & the people there are doing a terrific job making sure the expectations of their guests are very well exceeded. read more

Walk in order and then find a seat. U can choose from many beers on tap. You put your card on tab and when you check out you pay. Servers are outstanding, Brandi took out order and even walked us to show us how to use the taps for beer. Our waitress who took care of us out side was outstanding. Cheeseburger was phenomenal with their house sauce. We will go back. I will hope for outside seating to continue. read more

Tried for the first time this evening. It's Main Street so the outdoor ambiance is only so great, but it was nice enough on a pleasant October evening. I ordered one of each of their tacos. The Baja cod and shrimp tacos were delicious. Both were cooked perfectly and came with delicious sauces and toppings. The steak one was tasty, but nothing spectacular compared to the either two. The lone down note was the veggie taco. The fried potatoes were tasty enough, but the faux chorizo was just kind of bland mush. The texture was very off putting. My wife ordered the spicy chicken sandwich and thoroughly enjoyed it. Her lone complaint being that it's messiness level would fit right in with a Carl's Jr. commercial and she was forced to give up and knife and fork it. We will definitely be back and try more of the menu. read more

The food is good but it is pretty expensive which I wouldnt mind if the service wasnt so poor. Our server never came back for anything , my refill, no napkins , no more coffee for my husband, nothing . Shes just walking around passing our table and talking to her coworkers then proceeds to drop off the check after no service with a whole change of attitude and points at the tip option on the receipt , " You guys have a blessed day :D !!" I've seen this time and time again now going out. Servers giving no service but expect a tip? For what? I didnt leave anything as were walking out shes running begind us with the check so i turn around and she goes " you forgot to- oh um .. never mind " then turns back around , like what ? My first time going with friends and the food was awful. They could not accommodate to our needs and when we told them we no longer wanted the food they were pushy. They need to be more transparent in their menu about how they only will cook food a certain way and not how you ask them too. WORST part was we received a pitcher of water for the table that had onions and ranch on the top from not being cleaned. I'm from LA but I stopped in Merced to eat here and I loved it. I had the Chicken and mushroom flatbread with a tamarind margarita, both AMAZING. the bartender was so nice and helpful, it got pretty busy and still managed to give me perfect service. I wish I had gotten her name, but she had blonde curly hair. I definitely recommend this spot!! She said the BBQ burger was also good but I was so full with the Flatbread. We had dinner in a party of six. Everyone was pleased with their meal and the service was fine. This was our second time here and each meal was enjoyable. We will eat here again. My fish and chips were done just right and the fries are always excellent. Our only complaint is that they add a 22% gratuity to our check and do not inform us. Last time I added an extra tip because I did not notice that it was included. My fault I know but who does that to a party of six? Yes, time are tough, but really 22%.
