This place was a blast, for a summer night in a somewhat sleepy town. It's such a spacious downstairs and upstairs bar that, on a nice night, there's always somewhere to stand or sit. They gave my guy roommate's credit card to some random girl, leaving him stranded for money for the rest of our trip. While the bartender did apologize, he did not seem overly concerned about it, and kind of shrugged it off, saying it was not his fault as there was a group of people trying to pay off tabs and it was busy. Yes, things can get crazy at a bar at closing time, but come on, it's off season right now. It's going to get way busier and you need to get on your game. Also, he has an obvious guy name - there is no excuse to let a girl take his card. They did not announce that everyone should come pay off their tabs, and instead just left my and my friend's cards on the bar. Anyone could have walked by and picked them both up. While this place was fun in the beginning, having my money and credit cards safe is more important. I will not be returning here, and cannot ever see myself recommending this to anyone. This gay bar multiplex is the size of 4 NYC bars in one: 1: cabaret stage; 2: pool table and open space; 3: dance floor with DJ; 4: upstairs lounge with ample outdoor space. Reasonable drink prices, tons of space, everything is clean and the service is friendly...what more do you want from a bar? It's fairly dead on a Saturday before 10:30PM, and the drag show has a ridiculous $10 cover charge (which they'd never get away with in New York). Get there around 10 to carve out your spot at the upstairs bar and wait for the dance floor to fill up. It's really not half bad for the size of this tiny little town! read more

I see the boys below me have given Maine Street 5 stars, but I just can't quite bring myself to agree with that rating. While Maine Street was more up my alley than the rest of the gay bars in Ogunquit...it still didn't seem particularly special to me. Maybe this is just because I'm from San Francisco, and we've got gay bars coming out of our proverbial asses. The crowd was pretty average (at best), the DJ didn't have a few songs (songs that have been out for a good month or two, which seemed a little off) and the staff wasn't particularly charming. I guess the deck area is nice...if you're a smoker. That said, there was nothing really wrong with the space either. It was roomy, and the bathrooms weren't too crowded. There is a relatively spacious dancefloor. It also didn't take too long to get a drink, once you bellied up to the bar. And the drinks seemed to pack a powerful enough punch. Overall, Maine Street was a decent way to wrap up our evening with a little dancing, but I also can't say it is on my list of must-go-back places... read more

Rude front entrance staff. This bar is geared exclusively towards gay men and is not welcoming towards couples or groups of females unless. Drinks are ridiculously overpriced! Depending on what time of the year you visit this place, you could have a different experience. The very first time I visited Ogunquit - years ago, my first impression of Main Street was - wow, what a big space to dance in this tiny village. Yes, the dance floor has always been a drawing card for me - irrespective of who the DJ of the night is. I have come to terms with the music scene here on the North-East coast in general and don't have too many qualms any more. It will never be Europe - ever. It cannot be. So on my recent visit to Ogunquit not too long ago (a couple of weeks?!) - I saw the place has been reduced to half it's size where the main dance floor which is on the left side of the main entrance was completely blocked and closed off. I am assuming that is due to one of the following reasons - (and I wish I had checked with the staff): 1) Either they are doing some kind of renovation or 2) they have started closing off the main dance floor during non-peak seasons. I hope it is 1. and not the latter else I would be majorly disappointed. Visiting Ogunquit and hence Main Street during summer can be a challenge by itself. Because clearly everyone is out and about when the weather is nice. But as they say, you can't win it all (unless of course if you are Tom Brady!) So during my past visit, I had a great time here and totally enjoyed the night of drinking and dancing. That is pretty much why you go to this place. Having said all that, I doubt I will ever be disappointed with Main Street. For the only night club in this beautiful little town, this place, I must say is an institution of sorts. And I hope or rather I am very sure, the management is very well aware of that. Because over the years, Ogunquit and Wells seem to draw crowds from every part of the country. And just as the adjoining Front Porch has kept up with the times and managed to stay true to it's reputation - that of a fantastic establishment; I hope Main Street follows the same footsteps too. i've only been there once but i had a great time. my bf and i are pretty open so we like hanging out at gay bars. Why?? you guys know how to get down and boogie and dance like no ones watching. everyones a super-star on the dance floor. you treat my shopping cart move with such utter respect, i heart you all. this bar/club was good for where it was. ogunquit is a small, quaint town so don't expect anything huge or spectacular. the music was good. read more

The wait staff is incredibly rude especially security. I walked up and was immediately told I may not be able to go in because I seemed drunk. I was in no way drunk just excited to go into this bar I have always gone past but never old enough to go in. And when we finally got upstairs we were seated at a very small wobbly table on the deck overlooking the street. After and hour and a half and 1 drink each. We had our table full of empty drink and water cups. One of said water cups ended up tipping over because we bumped the wobbly table and a server came over and said "I saw you knock the ice over the edge." We tried to explain that it was an accident with the table being unsteady but he was very rude once again assuming we were drunk. We finally leave and are outside talking to a few people waiting to go in (who were CLEARLY drunk and still being let in no problem) and once again the rude security guard told us we had to leave. It was just an all around bad experience and I will not be returning. read more

My experience at Main Street was a disaster. Some 20-something CLEARLY denied us entry because we were members of the LGBTQ community. Clearly we were immediately denied service based on our orientation. Very very sad in thiS day & age. Luckily we were welcomed with open arms at the Front Porch. A clearly inclusive establishment. Came to this place on a Friday night and paid $8 dollars per glass for house Pino Grigio. Next day the bar upstairs charged us $14 per glass. I asked the bartender if he overcharged us and he responded saying he gave us better quality wine. We never asked for higher quality wine. Complained to the manager and manager Anthony apologized and comped the next round. We won't let the unapologetic bartender ruin this for us. If you are in Ogunquit and want to get away from children, intolerant/ignorant people, this is the place to be. The place has pool table, dance floor, outdoor area. This is probably the "IT" place for top dance music and really for you to "dance". It caters to many types of people. Drinks were a little weak, but much better than any other places here. While the staff was postively lovely the patrons of this bar are far from friendly.Me and my friend were harassed for being on the younger side of the spectrum and had our outfits and appearance criticized to our faces without saying a word to any of the offending patrons. We came here to have a good time in an open minded place where we wouldnt be getting hit on by sketchy guys and instead ended up criticized for being under 40 and not dressed in a plaid button up or a 100% polyester blend crew neck and cargo shorts. As a bar manager, I have to say the owner of this place hit the jackpot with employees. From the door man to the bar back. But Heather is the rockstar. No one waits for a drink. She never stops. It wasn't a super cute crowd and definitely older but that's to be expected. The worst service ever and by the "owner" aka rude and incompetent bartender. First, we were ignored bc we weren't customers that kissed the hand of this bartender. Then when we finally were acknowledged after like 10mins of being ignored. We were rushed to order a drink and told we were wasting his time. Mind you this bar was not busy at all. After confronting this bartender we were told verbatim "shut the fuck up" and threatened to be removed from the establishment. We decided to leave his weak ass drinks on the counter and definitely will dispute any charges that establishment tries to charge our cards. I've traveled all over the world and have been to many establishments gay and straight and have never felt such disrespect and feeling like a "second class citizen" especially from the so called owner of a bar...I would be ashamed to identify myself at the owner of a place and treat customers with such disrespect. I'll never throw salt on a business, as my group and I felt we would've had a great time if we didn't go to the owner. But I felt I needed to share this experience because it's one in which caused me to come out of my character which really ever happens. So if your not a regular that kisses his hand, be prepared to get shitty service. I would never go back to this establishment. FYI "The Front Porch" is a way better place to go to and everyone is friendly with impeccable service. I recommend going there instead...end of rant! read more

We recently got married in Ogunquit and needed a place to continue our reception after our venue closed down at 10PM. We ended up booking the upstairs deck at MaineStreet for our after party. It was incredible! The view of downtown Ogunquit and the beach is great. The private bar was amazing too. It was really a perfect place to throw a party. I definitely can't wait to throw an event there again. Aside from the space the staff and bartender were so friendly and accommodating. Plus the managers and owner were so helpful during the planning process. They were so laid back and took care of everything for us. It was probably the easiest part of the wedding to plan. We had a lot of guests visiting from out of town and they loved the venue and the views and the whole experience. Thank you MaineStreet for a memorable night!! read more

Went here during Labor Day after the rain poured like hell. We came in late afternoon. We needed a quick drink before we head back to Wells then Old Orchard Beach. The bartender was pretty knowledgeable of the bottled & draft beers as well as liquor they offer. I do wish they had a "drinks or happy hour" special which will bring the crowd in similar to bars in NYC. So the bar was pretty empty from 4:30pm to 6:30pm. I can't really say much else at this time but will definitely visit this establishment again perhaps during night time to see how well the DJs, music & crowd are. read more

Not too bad of a place. It's packed during the summer, if you like crowds. The drinks are a little over priced for Maine and the parking sucks. You'll need to find an open parking lot or a place on the street if you're lucky. Don't waste your time coming here in the winter though, it's dead and lame. Its a fun bar with a lot to offer, two dance floors that have two types of music for you to enjoy, your classic gay anthems or modern dance music of today. Very friendly and overall nice staff though there are a few bad apples whose service leaves much to be desired. As a frequent customer, weekly, it seems some of the newer bartenders dont know how to properly make drinks and once when I asked for shots was blatantly told no because it was too busy. I said ok I understand instead of making a big deal for being told no for a service I was going to pay for. The problem, he then went on helping other customs even though we were next and had waited our time and ignored my friends and I for another 15mins until another bartender came over and had no problems making out shots, he got a $40 tip. Now when I go I just make sure to avoid those bartenders and make sure to get those who have been around longer and more friendly. Other than that, always a great time. read more

This place looked like a lot of fun, but they have to cut the old racist man who works in the main bar. I went with my partner to this bar, and the oldest guy that was attending the main bar obviously did not want to serve me. We were waiting for over twenty minutes as the bartender asked and served each person that stood next to us. A lady even pointed out to him twice that we had been waiting and arrived before her, but he just said to her "well I am asking what you want". I finally had to bring it up to him that he has served every customer except me, except the non-white customer. Instead of an apology, he yelled "get out!" so cruelly. I never could feel worse in a place. Please, the owner or the manager of this place needs to take action because this employee's actions should not be tolerated, and is the antithesis of pride month. Additionally, this person is affecting your business reputation. This was truly a disappointment during our weekend in Ogunquit. read more

Being a local resident I have been patronizing Maine St for years. The management has done a great job making the bar appealing to both gay and straight patrons which is what makes Ogunquit Unique. I appreciate the special attention given to the locals that patronize Maine St year round! The staff for the most part is very friendly and attentive, but there are a few "Divas" that need to remember that they are there to provide service, not be admired. read more
