I would say that this is my second favorite. We stopped in just before noon, and everyone coming in at that time was picking up pasties, even though this place sells pizza as well. That says something. This is a carryout place, no seating. You have your choice of a pasty with or without rutabaga (we chose with), but they don't offer gravy or ketchup. We were out of gravy, but we still had some ketchup packets in the car, so we used those. This pasty was slightly different in that the dough seam was on the top instead of along the edge. Again, it was filled with lightly seasoned beef, onions, potatoes and rutabaga. It was delicious and filling, even though I only ate half. Service was friendly, and the signage on the building makes this place visible from 4 different directions. One person in our group requested Angel Hair Pasta vs. Spaghetti with Marinara. We were told "Tim the owner / chef does not allow any substitutes" I'm a chef, so I understand if a chef creates a dish, he or she really would like you to taste what they created. Using a different pasta doesn't in anyway change with flavor of the dish prepared. In my business, if a customer makes a request that I am able to make for them, all the better. It makes them happier and my staff will generally get a better tip In addition to that, while the tenderloin steak was very tender, it wasn't seasoned very well; if at all. The mushrooms were good though. The gnocchi made with ricotta vs. potato was an interesting twist. It did make the dumpling a bit softer, yet not really in a bad way. I would like to have had this another way then with a pumpkin sauce; however, that wasn't allowed. My wife ordered it and I at least took a taste. The rigatoni pasta with marinara and 2 meatballs was very good; except I'm not a fan of green peppers. I picked them out while still getting a heavier taste of peppers yet, I know that's a personal preference. There are also green peppers in the lasagna which seems odd to me except I'm sure the same marinara sauce is used in it as well. Overall, the server was good (I think she was fairly new) and the bartender was very firm in expressing the rules of the Chef / Owner; including that the 1-page menu that is 1/3 pizzas. is simply too difficult for the kitchen to manage using a different pasta for a basic dish. There are plenty of good places to enjoy a meal in door county. As such, I'm sure we can find one with a chef whose ego doesn't get in the way of providing a customer's simple request. Last but not least. It's the first time I've been in a nicer restaurant that didn't provide a complimentary special dessert with at least a candle in celebration of a birthday. I know, it sounds a bit puny, yet it just seemed to sum up our experience.
