I always stop at Main St. Fish & Chip when I'm in hempstead, NY. This "hole in a wall" joint is the definition of "hood spot with good food" I often get the steamed crab legs, & the container of broccoli, corn, carrots & onions. The restaurant add potatoes at no additional cost. This usual ranges from $26-$30 depending on the weight of the crab legs. More legs = mo money. But so worth it. The food is usual ready between 15-20mins. They season it with adobo, old bay & black pepper. Then when the food is ready you have the option to top it off with butter and lemon juice at no additional cost. This is a fish market so you have other options such as snapper, filet, clams, mussels, lobsters. Can be done steamed or fried.

It's been years since I've eaten here I used to work down the street from this restaurant, always loved their fried Whiting sandwiches. So today I decided to check it out again. The place is also a fresh fish and seafood market. Place was very clean the counter staff was friendly and helpful offering both fried and steamed seafood dishes. I ordered my fried whiting sandwich along with other decadent and delicious fried seafood delight's. (Catfish shrimp and scallops) everything was delicious the wedding brought back memories I don't know if the same folks on this place but it's still a good bargain. I recommend you give it a try'

Giving this place 5 stars because it is the only fish spot in the area (that I've known of in the past 5 years) that steams and fries seafood. It's also the closest thing than the fish spots in the Bronx and Harlem that I'm used to. I've been coming here for years and the two ladies are always very nice and accommodating by giving you whatever fixin's you want. My go to is the 20 shrimp steamed with broccoli, corn, and potatoes (I'll add some salmon and clams if i'm feeling fancy...or greedy). AND 2 fried crab sticks. The wait is abouuuut 15 minutes for the steamer and 10 for the fryer. They also have a large selection of fish and live crabs and the place NEVER smells disgusting.

Love coming here when I'm in Nassau visiting my dad. Fish is fresh and well prepared. They have a huge selection of fried and steamed food on the menu and it is decently priced.

A seafood extravaganza. You can order off the menu or choose from the fresh fish counter and have it cleaned and cooked while you wait. They both fry or steam. A constant line of costumers are always present. I love the DIY feel of this restaurant / market. I highly recommend.

The inside of my fish was gray and had a jelly like texture.....NOT FRESH!!!!!!!!!!

This place is second to none. You might find a seafood spot that's just as good, but you'll be…read morehard-pressed to find one better. My boy and I are there pretty much every Sunday during NFL season, and honestly, we sneak visits in during the week too -- sometimes just us, sometimes with the wives, sometimes grabbing food to bring back home. The vibe is always cool, welcoming, and family-oriented. Jerry, the owner, is cool as hell and treats people right. The whole staff really does. Danielle, Jordan, Jose -- all love. Now let's get to the food. The whiting? Amazing. The catfish? Amazing. The fried lobster? AMAZING. The shrimp? Always on point. The mac and cheese is easily a 4 to 4.5 out of 5. I'll never say somebody's mac is better than my mama's, but theirs is dangerously close. The collard greens are solid too. Me personally, I like my greens with a little more soul seasoning and spice -- a little cayenne kick built in instead of needing hot sauce afterward -- so for me they're about a 3.5 to 4 out of 5. But I can tell they season them in a way that appeals to everybody's palate and lets people adjust it themselves. The salmon soup? ELITE. They sell out of it constantly, so if you want it, get there early. The only thing I'd personally add would be some crushed chili flakes and corn niblets to take it completely over the top. As somebody who cooks and runs a catering business myself, I'm extremely critical about food, so when I say this place meets the bar and raises it, I mean that. Jose is usually back there cooking every time we go, so I joke that they got him chained to the kitchen -- but clearly he knows what he's doing. Jerry and the family taught him well. Now for honesty: The potato salad isn't really my thing. I'd probably give it a 2.5 out of 5 because, again, it feels made to appeal to all palates instead of heavily seasoned-food lovers like me. Same with the cabbage -- but I'm Jamaican, so unless cabbage is Jamaican-style, you're probably not selling me on it anyway . But the important part is this: the foods people ACTUALLY go to a soul food seafood restaurant for? They absolutely nail them. And now they opened a Brooklyn location too. Trust me -- make the trip. Once you go, you're going to keep going back.

Reservations are highly recommended. A lot of my mom friends rave about this place and I got to dine here twice with them, once for brunch and the other for dinner. Portions for both dishes were generous and took home the leftovers. We also shared the Brussels sprouts and the infamois complimentary bread, which were really good. The second and most recent time we went was for dinner with the a huge group of moms. We shared the Caesar salad, Brussels sprouts, and general two's cauliflower, which was amazing. I had the red sangria and a taste of the Huckleberry lemonade, drinks were strong. For the entrees I ordered the salmon and once again portion was huge, took it home and the hubby ate the leftovers. Other moms ordered the frose, spicy paloma, le poulet and spicy Rigatoni. At the end we had key lime pie which tasted great but I was too full to finish it. I stopped by last night after a multi year hiatus and was surprised to see the place so crowded on a Monday evening. The vibe has certainly amped up from quiet and relaxing to lively and frenetic, especially around the bar area. Maybe their "Mussel Mania" promo** (a 3-course repast for $39.95pp including appetizer, a nice array of mussels, fries and chocolate mousse) drew in the hungry hordes. I noticed that most tables chose to join the Mania when I was there. Service was good considering the situation. They offer an amazing selection of Belgian beers served up in authentic glasses from the breweries that produce them. I chose the dark Cherry Chouffe and appreciated its 8% kick and hoppy fruity taste. The lobster croquette appetizer was miniscule but tasty. Mussels with bread crumbs, served in a large black pot, were OK but on the small and dry side. Chocolate mousse dessert, presented in a small cup with chocolate sauce drizzled on top, was a puzzling Americanized version of one of my favorite rich desserts. I saw some tempting things on the menu and plan to stop by another night to sample different items; in fact the cheesy onion soup is calling my name now..... **Tip: Make sure to ask your server for the Mussel Mania promo if that's your choice, as it isn't offered on the main menu they hand out.

This is exactly how a business can lose stars…read more Going in to dine on Friday 2/20/26 my plus one and I had a entirely different experience from the first visit, in which the female employee influenced our return and patronage. Dressed casually in this casual setting that was well lit. We came to take advantage of a deal that was advertised "combo BOGO 50% off" within the hours of the promotion, but we were taken advantage of! Asking the employee for the advertised combo he specifically and directly point at the sandwich menu which was significantly higher priced starting at $18. It looks like a steak sandwich, I asked if it was a burger, he stated that it comes like a burger. So we each ordered that and with onion rings. He stated that they come with French fries, we said we wanted to have onion rings for an extra charge. I'm starting to notice a language comprehension challenge in the exchange as he kept saying that the sandwich comes with fries, He later confirms our order minus fries and stated that there's $.75 extra. Sitting down viewing the aesthetics as stated previously, we started observing the menu closer and noticed that the menu says " burger combos" starting at $11. Questions does arise about the promo. Talking to the employee, asking why does the menu say combo and you pointed to the sandwich, his reply was that sandwiches are the only combos that they have. I replied but that sign says sandwiches and the other menu says burger combos and you pointed to the sandwiches, why would you point to the sandwich. I was looking for his guidance into the right direction. If looks could kill, he'd be serving a life sentence. I interpreted the look as he was caught in a trap with no way out because he said they only had one combo. So he admitted, after interrogation that we could have ordered the P. S Burger combo. His tactics to spend my money was misleading in every shape form or fashion. The sandwiches (not a burger even though it looked like a burger) had chunks of steak and was falling apart every time you bit into it, leaving chunks of meat in your mouth, that you must now negotiate in order not to choke. We could have walked away happy and satisfied spending $18 minus tax. Instead I spent $18 on one sandwich for a total of $28.5. ( 2 orders of onion rings and the BOGO) To add, they bring you the food, put a tip jar out, and expect you to tip on top of being taken for $10 extra. So the extra went into revenue, not the tip jar. I actually thought P.S Burger would add to our palate but it's just not going to work out. The employee's actions led us to spend more than intended, and that affected the overall experience. But still.... Inspire more, Yelp more!
