I think the practice of withholding labor fees from price quotes on repairs should be illegal. I brought my Subaru to Maguire this week to get one of the seat belts fixed, because its was twisted and stuck. The person at Maguire told me they could fix the seatbelt, but they also recommended that I change out the air filters. I knew the air filters were unnecessary, because I just had the car inspected at Midas, and they didn't mention anything about the filters. But the Maguire people said they would do it all (seatbelt + filters) for $135, so I figured it was worth it just to get it fixed and get out of there. I made sure to confirm the price, saying, "$135 for everything?" The person confirmed, "$135 total." Here is what they ended up charging me: Labor to untwist the seat belt: $100 Cabin air filter: $32.35 Labor to replace cabin air filter: $45 Engine air filter: $36.25 Labor to replace engine air filter: $40 Total, including tax: $273.78 Is it unreasonable to assume that "total" includes the price of labor? It felt very dishonest to me. I'm giving two stars instead of one, because they did fix the seat belt at least, which Midas wasn't able to do. read more

Purchased a 2025 Subaru Outback yesterday. Our sales rep was Chris Merilahti. He was excellent to work with. We did the test drive. He answered all my questions. We got a tour of the facility. Set up appointment for first oil change. He contacted my car insurance company. The actual buying of the car happened quickly compared to my previous experience in purchasing a vehicle. I took my wife's Crosstrek there for a fan control in the dash. Not only did they try to double bill me, but they didn't even put all of the parts around the dash back! there were still parts on the passenger seat and floor. I complained to the service manager. He finally gave me a certificate for an oil change and tire rotation. Last week I brought my Colorado in for these services. Not only didn't the rotate the tires, but they didn't put enough oil in the engine! Good thing I checked the level today because I was one quart short. My engine doesn't burn any oil! Well, based on my own recent experience I am not surprised to see all the negative reviews of the Maguire Subaru service department. And, pretty much, I have the same complaint. They were not communicative regarding how long the service would take and the service rep was dishonest and dismissive when I asked why my car was taking so long to complete a routine maintenance that I had scheduled in advance. This business showed no respect for my time, my questions, my giving them business or really even my car. Their behavior betrayed the fact that they actually have no interest in my car's "health" over the long run. I further am not surprised that they have not claimed their business on Yelp. Came here for getting my first service last month for a simple oil change, tire rotation and some minor fender bender fixes - and while was initially put off by some miscommunication on my vehicles parts (I was called in and told everything was there and the right parts weren't which was inconvenient for me), Bobby put all that to bed and kept in clear and constant communication with me in terms of when the parts would arrive. He also offered to pick up / drop my vehicle off during a regular work day which was of great help. We roam the lot for 5 minutes. Why are we not being swarmed by sales people, offering to help? I walk into the sales room. Two employees are sitting at a sales desk, eating and chatting casually with one another. They do not look up. I stand silently. I have a loan check in my bag equivalent to the price of a new car. Finally... Guy: Do you have an appointment? Me: No. I want to purchase a car. Guy: *HE ROLLS HIS EYES!* Let me see if I can find someone. Seriously? He leaves. I never see him again. A guy wanders out and says he's looking for someone for us. Does Maguire employ people whose only purpose is to locate other people? I am ready to drop $25K on a car, I have done exhaustive research, I know the exact car I want, and I just need someone to take the check and give me keys. This is possibly the easiest sale these people will ever make. Finally someone comes and finds us wandering, opening cars randomly and sitting in them. He's perfectly nice, though quiet. He answers questions, but with as little talking as is possible. I don't feel like this company wants our money. Is it because I'm a woman? Is it because we don't look rich? Is it because selling me a car is harder than sitting quietly in an office and not selling me a car? We go for a test drive, because we've already invested time here, and why not? I ask if the sales guy can locate a manual transmission for me, because I know dealers swap cars all the time. He leaves and returns and says there are none in New York state. The entire state: no cars for me. We walk away. The next day, I find out there are actually 6 manual transmission cars in a 50 mile radius of us. Less than 36 hours later, I buy my car from another dealer 20 miles away who actually seemed to want to participate in the transaction. I know! So weird! A car dealer that wants to sell cars! Save your time. No one wants a high-pressured sales experience, but it is actually possible for the pendulum to swing too far in the other direction. No one here seems to even care. read more

Typical stealership, high-pressure sales tactics everywhere from the sales floor to the repair department. Took car in for warranty work, received call next day telling me they'd found leaks that weren't covered, but that the repairs would be "cheaper" because they were doing the warranty repair. They needed permission "right away." The service department used this time pressure tactic to pressure me into a repair to which I didn't need. They refused to provide details like how bad the leak was - "...bad enough that we noticed it." That should have been a red flag. I caved and that's my fault. Never coming here again, though. I have a local, reliable, trustworthy Subaru mechanic (Mann's in Mecklenburg). Their labor rates are much cheaper than this overpriced place. Bottom line: dealers use two-bit underhanded tactics to pressure you into work that is unnecessary. If a dealer tells you "need" repairs, the answer is always "NO." Get a second opinion elsewhere. read more

There was confusion in the beginning regarding completion of the project, Gary Carr, Manager of the Body Shop, extended a special accommodation to compensate. Worst service we've ever experienced! Originally brought in the vehicle for new brake pads and rotors ($1500 job!), less than a month in- started having brake problems again! Brought it in 3 separate times after just for them to "clean the brakes", makes us wait hours each time, and send us home! Finally, brakes started to really give and they finally recognized the problem- tried to charge us another $750 for "labor" and parts (and made us wait another 4 hours)! 0/10 service and pricing, would NEVER recommend. read more

Terrible service. I made an appointment about a week in advance for a simple oil change. I showed up at the scheduled time and they said they couldn't get me in until more than an hour later and that the oil change would take an additional hour. So they need more than two hours for an oil change that was scheduled in advance.. Definitely won't be going there again. read more

I don't know what the other people here are talking about. I had a great experience at Maguire Subaru. I had prequalified financing so when I contacted Frank Khan, he had the two Outback models was interested in warming up and ready to go when I got there for test drive. The buying process was easy and quick. The only issue I had was there is residue on my wheel rims from the shipping covers and they said a detailer would have to clean that. Maguire might want to fix that. Service was great and there is a courtesy shuttle to take me to work when I needed to drop off my car to have a wind screen installed for the sunroof. The only other issue was the car lot is very crowded and cramped. I would recommend this dealership. I had more positives than negatives. read more

I was visiting Ithaca from many states away and was hearing some noise coming from my brakes. I called Maguire Subaru on a Monday and they were able to fit me in on Friday. They found I needed new front breaks, which were very low, and all my calipers needed to be serviced. They did the work and when they took the car for a test drive, they heard a sound that was masked by the break sound....a wheel bearing was out. They had the part in stock and the technician stayed late to finish the job so I could pick the car up Saturday morning. They did a great job, were very friendly and did excellent work on my Subaru Forester. I highly recommend them. read more

Good buying experience, worst service department ever! I've been going to Maguire Subaru for service for about three years now and it has been one disappointment after another. My last Subaru had one problem after another and they had all kinds of trouble getting it fixed. I got out from under that vehicle and purchased a new one from them -- good sales experience. I've had the new vehicle in for work twice now and they continue to fail to provide basic service -- forgot to replace a cover after the first service and then today was the kicker --- I scheduled an 11am appt for an oil change and tire rotation. Instead of interrupting the work day, I decided to drop it off before work in the morning and pick it up at the end of the day. So, it was dropped off at 7:45am for an 11am appointment. I asked for it to be ready by 4pm. When I pulled into the lot at 5pm to pick it up, the car was still sitting in the exact same spot and there were 5-6 of their service employees standing around near it having a great time telling stories, laughing etc... Well, then the phone rings and its the service manager calling to say that they haven't had a chance to get to it yet. I went in and let him know what I thought about that -- you must be kidding me -- all day long for an oil change and tire rotation and they never touched it! What a waste of my time... read more

I would leave zero stars if it was an option. These folks are crooks. For the better part of 2 years, I drove 50 miles one way to Maguire Subaru to get my oil changed. I had a car under warranty, and wanted to err on the side of caution with service so nothing would void the warranty. I also thought that this kind of loyalty would be taken into account in case serious problems arose in the future. Wrong. The service is terrible and they rake you over the coals money-wise. A few months ago, the clutch on my subaru blew up at a mileage way too low. I had the car towed (again 50 miles) to Maguire in the event that some of the damage could be covered by the warranty. Of course the clutch is not covered (not Maguire's fault) but we were promised a FREE rental car while the car was in the shop. The car broke down on a wednesday; we were promised the rental by the end of Thursday. They never called. We called Friday morning, were promised a call back, never came. Same pattern the next day. In the end, we never got the rental car we were promised, and the way it was handled was astoundingly unprofessional. All told the labor cost almost as much as the parts and ran us $1400. They were nice enough to take 15% off because of the way they handled the whole rental car fiasco, but the damage was already done. I thought that they would see how much I went out of my way to give them my business; instead they bent me over a barrel. I would have saved hundreds of dollars if I had taken the Subaru elsewhere, which is what I am going to do from now on. You can try to save digital face, Phil M., owner of Maguire subaru, by replying to this and asking me to come back to rectify the situation, but why would I, after everything I've outlined above? Unless you can write me a check for the difference of what I would have saved by not taking my car to your dealership ($500), you will never see another cent of my money. read more

I cannot speak for the sales department, but do not come here for service. My check engine light was on, my horn was not working for an unknown reason, and I needed a small part installed so I didn't have to wiggle the gear shift to start my car. So I asked them to check those things out. It was taking a while, and at one point the woman at the front desk came to me to ask if the mechanic should spend more time looking at the car. I said yes, of course. Eventually, they told me that the check engine light was due to a bad oxygen sensor, even though I got them replaced before. I told them I didn't think this was the problem, and they said that you can't trust repair places that aren't official Subaru shops to change your oxygen sensor. I asked the mechanic if he was sure and he said yes. I went home while they looked at the other issues. I get a phone call about the horn, and they said it was not the horn but something electrical that was trickier to repair. They told me the mechanic would have to get up inside the car and said it'd take 12 hours. I asked how much money it'd cost, and they said about $1200! I told them no way. I asked them to order the small part I needed described above and came back to pick up my car. First of all, they tried to charge me $180 for the time the mechanic spent figuring out what was wrong with my horn. All he did during that time was figure out that the horn itself was not the problem. They said they were cutting me a break, because the mechanic spent "4 hours" looking at the car. But they never told me they were charging these rates to just look at my car (they didn't actually fix anything with the horn). I told them I refused to pay this, because they didn't make it clear they were charging me for this. They eventually backed down. It gets worse from here. They never called to tell me the part they ordered for me (and charged me for) was in stock. I had to call to find out the part did come in. My check engine light came on during the next long-distance drive, two weeks after I took it in for service. And when I told them I was running into the same problem, they plopped a form that they wanted me to sign for $90-per-hour general service! How insulting. Obviously, they don't stand by their work. I had to argue with them again that this was inappropriate. They now determine that the catalytic converter is at fault. I told them this makes me suspicious that the oxygen sensor was not the problem before, and they said that both can go at nearly the same time. "It happens all the time." Now, that IS possible, but I was really suspicious of these people by now, and this was no way to treat a customer. Finally, after I got the small part installed, I found out that the mechanic broke one of the plastic parts off of my interior, so I had to go back inside to get him to set it more appropriately. The people driving the shuttles to and from this place were nice and professional. But go somewhere else to get your car repaired. There are plenty of other places in town, and I have had much better experiences. read more
