The best part about Magoo's is how easy it was to get there by car only to realize I could have walked instead. It was a mid morning with plenty of parking spaces and was quickly seated inside. Magoo's is a straight-up Tex-Mex diner with great options to choose and a friendly atmosphere inside. The waitress offered an "off-menu" option after an inquiry about a carne asada burrito. I took it and what arrived was carne asada in a red sauce, scrambled eggs, refried beans with two tortillas. Definitely a crowd pleaser with Magoo's food, and what I wanted was there all along but I had to ask for it. Perfecto!

This is a hometown diner in the cute town of Alpine Texas. They serve breakfast and lunch. We stopped in for breakfast- The menu has the regular fare, with a Tex-Mex twist. Eggs, biscuits and gravy, pancakes - but also breakfast burritos. Service is fast and friendly. Laid back cowboys fill the cafe with friendly banter. Stop in for a bite- you will enjoy it.

I was hon-gree,and needed food. Out front: Police Railroad Border patrol A perfect indication that this is the place. It in fact was the place and I found it sitting in the Mcdonald's parking lot across the street looking at Yelp. No explanation is needed. Great Food, Atmosphere, Prices, service, and a vanishing Decor...... Go!!!

#2 plate. Eggs, bacon or sausage (not sure why they included both) , potatoes and toast

Seat yourself upon arrival. We both got the plate with eggs, one meat of choice, potatoes and with either a biscuit or toast. For some reason they put a piece of sausage on my plate even though it only comes with either bacon or sausage. Eggs were scrambled and well done, the potatoes had good flavor but some pieces weren't quite cooked all the way. Ordered the oatmeal for our toddler which was supposed to have come with toast but it never made it to our table. Overall average food, not bad for the price. It stayed busy the whole time we were there.

Their famous chicken fried steak with jalapeño gravy and fries!

If you're ever in Alpine Tx you have to eat here! Everything is great! It doesn't matter what time of day and the service is amazing! They are professional, kind and if you're not sure what you want just ask them they will order for you lol! And if they are busy help yourself to the coffee, tea or soda refills! They don't mind at all and we absolutely didn't mind getting our own refills to help them out! We went on vacation and even though we stayed in hotels in other towns close by we drove to Alpine to eat! The restaurant is family owned and the ambiance is fitting for a small town feel!

This place had such a great breakfast. We were on our way back from Big Bend national Park and stopped by here and the weather was crappy and rainy and the service was great! The food was good and I love that this is a family owned restaurant and the coffee mugs were totally random and we really enjoyed our meal here .

Stopped by after going to the Davis Mountsin State Park, worth the drive over. Best burgers!!

The red cheese enchiladas were on point. The burgers looked just as good. Check it out when you're in Alpine.

I don't remember Cow Dog being here before so after driving by a few times and deciding I could do better than McDonald's as I was leaving town, I dropped in to see what they had to offer. The cashier was friendly and when her credit machine wouldn't work after a bit and all I had was $8 cash, she was gracious and gave me what I wanted at a dollar discount. Extremely reasonable prices for the caliber of breakfast burrito I received. I got the bounty burrito and it was definitely worth the wait! Packed full of roasted potatoes, freshly sautéed bell peppers, chunks of breakfast meat and flavorful egg I was bummed I was leaving and wouldn't be able to enjoy another one on a different day. There's ample inside seating and even more patio seating. There's free street parking, but take into account it's on a one way so plan accordingly. I think people might pass it often because there was a sign on the other one way back to remind you where to turn. I hope this place lasts a long time like all my other favorites up there. Support local businesses when you travel through because you never know what simple delights you'll enjoy unless you try.

The inside really does match the aesthetics of the outside. The service was nice and prompt. Our waitress got us our drinks before we ordered. Yes, the menu is through a QR code. I'm not quite sure what the problem is with that. I'm sure if you don't have a phone or can't use a QR for whatever reason, they likely have physical menus as well. Nonetheless, I went ahead and ordered the sausage breakfast sandwich. Our food came out timely. The sandwich tasted good. Honestly, it was like any other breakfast sandwich that you would get at some other chain. It's consistent and reliable. You know what you're going to get. I feel that I can say the same for the rest of the table. It's simple American breakfast food done simple and right. Overall, I'd recommend. We didn't have the experience that other people got to warrant the lower reviews. I really do think that Penny's Diner in Alpine is a quality establishment.

The first time I went to check it out I was offput by the QR code ordering nonsense. The employees were completely locked to their phones doomscrolling and it was difficult to get anyone's attention. Food was pretty weak, but acceptable for a diner. Price was ok. Then tonight I thinks to myself, I can't sleep, I should try that diner again - so I go out there at 1:30a and all the employees are hanging out in the parking lot playing with a car and tell me the diner is closed. Come back in a few hours. If you're driving through Alpine and you want a mediocre burger that isn't going to end up costing you $45, maybe it's worth a stop (it isn't) - but definitely don't go a single mile out of your way for it. They do not care at all and they really want you to know that.

There was an American Flag and a Texas flag flying out front. We walked in and waited for someone to greet us and seat us. After we were at our table, drink orders were taken. When our water was brought out, we were also given some Honey Pecan Biscuits with butter. They were warm and I liked the pecans in it! Hubby & I shared everything. We started with a cup of Jalapeño and Cilantro Soup. It's a cream based soup. I couldn't detect much of any heat from the Jalapeños and the cilantro was pretty much hidden. Maybe a sprinkling of fresh cilantro on top would have made it more pronounced. It also needed to be served hot. We then got the 14oz Ribeye which came with mashed potatoes & green beans. This was a great plate of food! It came out hot! The person who brought it out waited until we cut into it to see if it was acceptable. We've never had any staff person do that for us before! It was a little under done on one side, but the other was perfect. We almost finished the plate. It was delicious! Lastly, we got the Chocolate Bread Pudding Tamale. It comes wrapped in a corn husk that it is cooked in. You remove it and eat the bread pudding. It was gummy in a good way, as hubby described it. It needed the fresh strawberries & ice cream that came on the plate. We really enjoyed our dinner! Our server, Jordan, was very efficient & made it a nice experience! We probably won't travel this way again, but if we did, we would definitely return!

The ambiance is more on the utilitarian side not super classy or trendy but where this place shines is in the food. We ordered the carne asada tacos and the chips and salsa. It was very, very good. We popped in for a light lunch and enjoyed every bite. Authentic, satisfying, and perfectly balanced not too heavy, not too light. Just right. Fast and delicious. Bravo!

They looked really good and on the appetizer menu so I got them. Asked for the salsa flight but waiter said the prep guy did not come in that day so they had no salsa (none at all)! So o ordered the guacamole (which he competed). Also got a Jamaica juice that was so large I had to get a to go cup when we were ready to leave. The guacamole was house made but it did lack some flavor. It needed a punch of garlic and some salt. Only thing I could add was the salt from the table. Otherwise it was good and chunky. The nachos came out and they were massive. I was able to eat about 10 chips before giving up. My provider and I said we should have shared. They are loaded with meat, cheese, sour cream, guacamole, pico, and pickled red onions. I have no complaints bout the taste as it was all very flavorful and seasoned well. There are not a lot of options for food in town but I would eat here again.
