    El Rauncho Grande G.

Your humble yet infallible reviewer stopped at an interesting converted Fort Davis school bus parked in a dusty gravel parking lot on that tiny Texas town's main drag cum business district as it had an awning constructed next to it with some picnic tables underneath. When your food truck goes "full Bluebird," that warrants a look-see. The experience did not disappoint. Inside the bus, a small grill kitchen and an order counter have replaced the bus seats, and a friendly cook/owner hails visitors, directs them to the posted menu, then takes your order and checks you out (opening the bus window to clarify any order questions if necessary as you sit under the awning awaiting table-side delivery of your order). Though they offer a variety of sandwiches and rotating weekly specials, the menu-standard hand-formed half pound burger was the clear winner, served with perfectly golden battered fries and a free refill of iced tea (unsweetened, so you can doctor it yourself as God intended--that premixed "sweet tea" nonsense is communism). They even check back on you to see if you want more tea, then bring it to you--I'm in love! This was a great experience. I'll bet it would be even better in the cool of the evening. Can't wait to try it again then. El Rauncho Grande

A great charming spot (out of a school bus) in Fort Davis. Delicious hamburgers and French fries. Will visit again as we pass through!

The food truck is conveniently located by the patio where you enjoy your wine. I've visited the winery twice now and both it and the Too Hot for TABC food truck are a permanent stop on the itinerary I plan to Marfa. The food they're serving up over there is legit some of the best I've ever had from a food truck and I'm still thinking about the amazing sandwich I had the last time I was there. It was a daily special but it needs to be a full time item. Hopefully if you're lucky they'll have it for you - prosciutto, brie, and some amazing jams. If you're not lucky, however, the award winning burger is always a delicious choice and the charcuterie board perfectly compliments an afternoon of drinking wine. Don't visit the winery without sampling some of the yummy dishes being served up at Too Hot for TABC!

We stumbled upon this place after driving through Fort Davis and deciding we were hungry. The joint is a food truck, served out of an airstream, with seating at the winery. Just go- you won't be disappointed. The winery was awesome and staff super friendly. I enjoyed the dogs sitting at my feet, waiting on a crumb to drop. I will most definitely come back next time we are out this way. Would love to sample the wine - had to abstain this time around.

That's a rarity these days, and I'm sure the IRS and local school district are getting all that's due to them. (Not really.) I'm an out-of-towner, and I stopped here for lunch before heading back south. The food and service were good. Not great. Indeed everyone was friendly, and there was enough gooey cheese to float a battleship. The "frozen" beer mug was actually a plastic mug, which is horse hockey. If I'd known better, I would've saved the dishwasher some trouble and just sipped from the bottle. Back to the food... The cheese enchiladas here are divine. They're gooey, and the red sauce is wonderful. The hard corn tacos are fine ... nothing special. Same thing with the rice and beans. -- Mexican rice in these parts has been wet at every restaurant. I'm used to dry Mexican rice. (And I was taught by a Mexican abuela how to make proper Mexican rice.) But I digress. Chips here are marginal. Hopefully, they come in on a truck, because they hardly taste like they are fried in the kitchen. The salsa, while served cold (which is proper) is a little too chunky for my taste, although it has a nice bite to it. The locals eat here. Good for them, because this place is decent. But also bad for them, because restaurants like this one should breed some decent competition ... even in a tiny town such as Alpine. Also, bad for them because this place only accepts cash, which most people don't carry these days. (Yes, we had cash, but the six ladies at the adjacent table didn't.)
