I made another visit to try out their poboy so I again got the shrimp gumbo along with a shrimp poboy. This visit was not as pleasant as the first as the shrimp gumbo just seemed off while the poboy was alright but the bread seemed a bit less than fresh. In NOLA poboy bread is good for one day and goes stale so then it is used to make bread pudding. The big poboy bread bakeries in NOLA have started to ship out their bread to other places and somehow have found a way to keep it fresh longer but it still just seems you can't get that same fresh poboy bread experience anywhere outside of NOLA. The ambiance of Gold Post is till 1970's fantastic with nothing being changed from the way I remember it as a kid so that is always nostalgic. The service at Gold Post is fast food style where you order at the counter but they do clean your table. Overall this is a decent joint and one of the few poboy spots in Hattiesburg, MS.

The good: The lobby was clean and well lit. Free soft serve ice cream cones. The chicken is super crunchy so if you live for the crunch, they've got you covered. The chicken sandwich is huge! And the wings are also pretty big. Those chickens must work out in the gym! The bad: Customer service is a joke! Drink stations unstocked. Dirty kitchen and kitchen staff with sagging uniforms!! Chicken seasoning is bland Spicy chicken is just a dry seasoning shaken over regular chicken. When we first arrived, I walked into the building, the temperature was freezing! Between the air conditioner and the ceiling fans, it was cold enough to hang beef in there! Most customers were shivering. The cashier could barely take our order without looking back at her phone. When I informed her that the tea dispensers were empty, she told me they were out of tea without even bothering to go and check. Another customer overheard my conversation and told me that she had just said the same thing and someone took her cup to the back and brought it back full of tea. Additionally, the fountain drink dispensers were low on flavors so the drinks were almost flavorless. At least the lemon aid was decent. While the chicken pieces are large, the flavor is not. The regular chicken is pretty bland and needs a bit more seasoning in the recipe. The "spicy" chicken wings and sandwich are just regular chicken with a super salty, slightly spicy seasoning shaken over it after it's put in the container. My order had so much just dumped on top that it pooled in the bottom of the sandwich container. Similarly, the wings had none of the seasoning on the bottom side. While we were waiting for our food, I noticed another lady who was quite dissatisfied with her order and was nice enough to show us what she ordered. Let's just say, I'm glad I didn't order the fish! When I made it to the window, my order was repeated and the receipt on the bag read the same. I drove 3.3 miles home with my tastebuds excited to enjoy one of my favorite breakfast items. Unfortunately, I had received a BEC BISCUIT! To say I was disappointed is an understatement. I toasted my own bread and transferred the eggs and bacon, which were absolutely delicious! Next time, I will make sure my order is correct before I drive 3.3 miles back home.
