"We've relied on Curtis twice now: first to waterproof our rooftop deck a few years back, and most recently for our front porch. He consistently delivers right on schedule and budget. His crew is efficient, courteous, and great to work with. When I requested a small tweak, he handled it without hesitation and wrapped everything up in the same week. Highly recommend!" read more

We thought that the quote was reasonable and that their approach to our project suited our needs best. They did outstanding work, were professional, competent and personable, worked around our vacation schedule and got the job done in a timely manner. We would highly recommend. read more

Magnasite has provided balcony resurfacing for 10 balconies in our condo building for the past dozen years. Curtis came out this year to give us an estimate and Matt provided the work. Erin, in the office, took care of all scheduling. Everything was done perfectly and we will continue to use Magnasite for the life of our building. read more

Came out and gave us a quote to redo the epoxy on our epoxy floor. Great company. I recommend them.

After 6 years in our home, our rooftop deck needed to be resurfaced. Our General Contractor recommended Magnesite Specialties/American Deck Systems. Their estimator arrived on time, the proposal was prompt and service began in a timely manner. This was all coordinated by and excellent inside group by text and email. I cannot recommend more highly. read more

Roof deck leaking. Magnesite gave us a quote for repair but said that it was possible they would have to do a full job once the deck was opened up. Once they took off the really bad sections we could see the rest was in bad shape and it all needed replaced. Which was exactly what our architect said would have to be done when he looked at it. Their crew is exceptional starting with Randall who is like an energizer bunny. Fast and smart. He explained to us what he was doing which improving on what we had before. Anything that was still good and would last he left in place. Then the stucco and flooring guys were great. The new stucco matches the old so closely you can't tell that part had to be replaced. And the new deck floor looks wonderful. The price was comparable to our other quotes. read more

We have used Magnesite for over 20 years. They do an outstanding job every single time. They can diagnose a problem perfectly and know the solution. Recently we had a balcony leak which was fixed by Magnesite...before that it was a balcony sliding door that was improperly installed without flashing. Magnesite fixed it.The staff is terrific..Erin, Jimmy, everyone we come in contact with goes the extra mile. We have never been disappointed in Magnesite's professionalism. They are the first we contact when problems arise. Recommend them highly. read more

Great company. Needed deck repair/waterproofing as deck was leaking to below and staining stucco. Came out quickly and had a bid prepared same day. Very fair price and considerably cheaper than another bid I started with. They were easy to work with the entire way. They started job about a week later. Came every day for about 6 days with no hasssles, always on time and did their work and left quietly. (I work from home so that was very important - didn't need to babysit them). The work itself looks quite good. Only time will tell if it holds up to the elements but no reason to believe it won't. Looks good too. Their warranty was 10 years (compared to one from the other company). Highly recommended and appreciate not only the fair price but the ease with which to do business. Didn't require "deposit", didn't feel like I was dealing with a shady firm, professional back-office support, etc. read more

Our HOA had a rooftop deck that has been leaking for over a year. It had finally leaked through the second floor and into the bottom unit (mine) At first Curtis seemed like a good guy and I was almost impressed by his answers and questions. That ended in a couple days when he got our HOA to sign his very pricey estimate. He even admit to me that he had overpriced it due too all the unknowns. He rushed to start the job throwing hazardous materials from the 4th storey deck to the ground with no safety measures in place. They showed up in plain white unmarked trucks, no uniforms, etc. When I asked who they were I was ignored and would not introduce themselves to anyone. I asked where the permit and sign-off sheets were and again ingnored. They only removed the cheap layer of illegal wood and the rolled roofing the previous owner had nailed down to cover up the damage. There had been a portable spa up there from the owners before the last ones and the weight has caused thee building to sag. No permit was applied for and when I first complained, he lied to the City and the CSLB about the scope of work stating "we applied waterproofing over and exterior deck" and lied about no safety measures and/or safety equipment the workers were not wearing. No bill of material was provided even when requested many times. There was an extra charge for a sheet of plywood for $375.00 (type not listed) Substandard hardware and fasteners were used and railing never removed so I have no idea how the new coatings went under them. No pictures taked and no details given as required. We now have spent $16,000.00 on a deck that will have to be partially if not totally removed so the damaged sub-structure can be inspected and repaired. I recently spent $22,000.00 on all new windows and doors and the slider right under where the spa had been is sagging and they have been out 6 times to try and fix it but can't due to the damage above. DO NOT USE THESE GUYS!! They no longer take calls or respond to written correspondence. I am re-filing all complaints as it took me 3 weeks to get copies all the paperwork needed to proved all the lies and poor code of conduct. I have been in construction for over 30 years and companies like this bring all honest contractors down. Curtis only recently took over ownership but if you look at the licenses they still belong to the old owner who they keep on record for the licenses. If Curtis had to take a code class a General Contractor's License exam, I'm quuite certain he would fail badly. Pictures to come when I can get up there read more

Magnesite was hired to complete the waterproofing on my deck. Curtis came and gave us a reasonable estimate that which we accepted. We understood that there would most likely be additional work that needed to be done due to a leak that started over a year ago. Unfortunately, the previous owners had not dealt with it sooner. Within a week from signing the contract, they started working. Everyone that worked on the deck was very professional and polite. Magnesite had a system that demonstrated everyone knew their duties and responsibilities. The manager of the project kept me informed daily as to what was happening and they were able to finish within the estimated timeline. The deck turned out beautifully. Since the deck had been finished, we have had some very strong storms with absolutely zero issues or leaks! My husband and I really enjoy sitting outside on our deck and we love the color that we picked out! I highly recommend using Magnesite for your waterproofing and decking needs. read more

Pictures to come. Waterproofing does not look right cracked all along their new flashing. Took a long long time to do something about it. Pictures to come of their fix. Owner came by and did not introduce himself. I had to ask who he was. He was not forthcoming with answers. Said the problem is movement in house like contraction of roof tiles or people stepping on deck. Isn't a deck supposed to be walked on. Does all roofing contract? He said that "he is over it." I asked him what he meant by it. He said he will not spend any more time on the job. read more

My boyfriend and I had a second story, solid surface outside deck waterproofed. Lucky that the old water damage had not hurt in the beams, but everything on the surface was taken out and re-done. Excellent job. Professional, oriented on customer care, fast, and high product quality. Curtis came on-site for inspection, enthusiastic and encouraging because it was hot that day, and had no problems with additional stucco work to repair a few cracks. He also made personal insight on the color coordination, which was very valuable because the paint looks different when it dries. Well worth everything: high value in regards to time, attitude, and reasonable cost. We'd be happy to recommend him to anyone! Thanks! read more
