This place was one of the best toy stores I've ever been in. I wouldn't take any of these particularly nasty reviews to heart and I highly encourage those that read this to experience the store for yourself before you make any harsh judgments based on the experiences of others. There's always two sides of every story after all. The staff were very friendly and helpful to me, happily chatting to me about various toys and recommending things and answering any questions I had! And the atmosphere was just so fun, so much unlike the various other chain stores you go to. MMT really goes out of its way to cater to their customers, and I couldn't be more happy with the gifts I bought for *all* the young people in my family! I myself worked in retail for several years and I know from personal experience how maddening it can all be at times to have to clean up after inconsiderate customers, and believe me, I saw a fair few while browsing the two wondrous stories of toys. I really have to admire the patience the staff at MMT has! I know I couldn't handle it! (Which is probably why I no longer AM in retail! Haha!) All in all, a great store. They seriously seem to have everything you could ever hope for. They have an entire wall of plush toys, a vibrant and colorful section of toys just for infants and toddlers! Also a lot of joke toys that my son absolutely cannot get enough of. Downstairs is even larger than the upstairs and seems to go on forever! They had a small Breyer Horse collection which I really enjoyed, being a collector myself (sadly I had everything they had on display already!), and entire room of puzzles and another room of children's books and then yet another room of games and magic tricks! What a HORRIBLE experience. Never again will I take my children to this once-loved toy store. Where do I begin? Let me start by saying that Magic Mouse Toys has been a special place to me since my parents took me there when I was little. In fact, I bought one of my first troll dolls there! Naturally, I have continued this tradition with my children since they were small, making the drive all the way from Olympia, Washington. Well, NEVER again. Last week I took my 10 year-old daughter and three year-old son there after a day on the waterfront. Our time upstairs was relaxed and fun as the sales girl was cheerful and helpful, but things took an AWFUL turn when we went downstairs. It was there we encountered the grumpy male sales clerk/owner who is clearly annoyed by the presence of children. I started to feel creeped-out when I noticed him following my son and me everywhere glaring at us. I felt so unwelcome, but decided to brush it off because we were having a great day. When we finally left the basement and went back upstairs, purchases in hand, my son decided to see if the hamster ball would bounce and rolled it down the stairs. The male clerk became so enraged at this accident that he yelled {the way an abusive parent would yell} at my son to, "STOP THROWING THE BALLS DOWN THE STAIRS!" My son {being an inquisitive tot asked, "why?" only to be screamed at again, "BECAUSE YOU BROKE IT!!!" Clearly, it was not what the clerk said but the way he said it that alarmed me. I decided to take my son down the stairs to "show" him what he had done and offer to pay for the broken ball when the clerk stretched out his arms and legs to block our way. Confused I explained to him that I wanted to show my son what he had done {and that I didn't appreciate his yelling, of course} but he just glared at us with a beet-red face. He then continued his rampage and yelled at my son, "YOU'RE NOT COMING DOWN HERE! GO BACK UPSTAIRS - YOU'VE DONE ENOUGH!" Mind you, this was directed at a three year-old! I was now becoming very uneasy as I could see this guy was a loose-cannon and clearly losing control of himself quickly! I decided to forget about paying for the broken ball, and took my son's hand and led him back upstairs, only to encounter my fightened and sobbing daughter who had been watching from the balcony of the stairs. Horrified, we put our purchases back and left the store accompanied by an older woman who had witnessed the scene as well and wanted to make sure that we got out okay. Needless to say, I will never go back to this store due to the bitter and aggressive man in the basement. I have dealt with his grumpiness before and witnessed his blatant rudness to customers, but he crossed a line this time. I actually felt threatened for myself and my children. Why an individual like this is allowed to continue working among children is beyond me, but I can only assume he must be the owner of the store. All the more reason to never give this place my business. As an elementary school teacher and an involved parent of two, I will be warning everyone I know about this toy store. read more

Even though I had my hands full of toys I wanted to buy, I put then down and simply told the saleswoman "I'm sorry, you are treating me so rudely - and your customer service is so insulting - I've decided to not purchase anything!" When I was a child growing up in Lakewood my parents would bring me to Seattle with them for a weekend getaway once every few months. Part of the deal to keep me from acting like a feral chimpanzee on the car ride up and to keep me from destroying the hotel room to make pillow/blanket forts was a trip to Magic Mouse. They would give me a budget (try explaining that to a 5 year old... or try explaining tax for that matter) and let me pick out whatever I wanted. I don't have many businesses that instantly remind me of my childhood or make me ridiculously happy just by going into them or seeing them as I drive by but this is definitely one. Over the years I've purchased numerous items for myself, for friends and for the children in my life. I've gotten my own set of plastic knight's armor and sword, puzzles, rubberband guns, pewter knights ready to battle rubber dinosaurs, stuffties, a few educational toys, race tracks and some silly nick knacks. It's a toy store with plenty of items laid out for you, your kids or your inner child to play with and they don't mind. You can try your hand at board games, race boats or just monkey around with some of the other cool toys and games they provide. I've never had a bad experience here as I'm a big kid and love toys and their store is always clean and the staff are always nice. You can't go wrong with Magic Mouse! I'm definitely due a trip back... just don't be surprised if once I return I'm looking a little younger and have a little more spring in my step as that's just the effect Magic Mouse has on me. GREAT toy store. A-HOLE salesperson. What can I say? She was the rudest thing on two feet. She seemed extremely grumpy and had an accent, sounded English to me, so while she was ringing up our purchases (just to make small talk), I asked her where she was from. Her reply took me aback a little when she responded "From a little island just north of Seattle. We all have 'funny' accents there." Let me just say, she didn't say it in a kidding sort of tone, either. She was being nasty on purpose. So after she rung up my things, I remembered that people from the state of Oregon don't have to pay sales tax, so I told her I was from Oregon - BIG mistake!! She glared at me and hissed, "Well, maybe you should start wearing a hat that says you're from Oregon so you won't forget to tell sales clerks here BEFORE they ring you up!" Um... you're kidding me, right? I told her I was actually from CALIFORNIA, a little island just south of OREGON, and that I wasn't used to the whole no sales tax thing, so could she please pull her head out of her *ss and refund the tax money she owed me, and while she was at it, send the manager over my way. Jeez!!! Total A-Hole... I give this toy store (4) Stars because the manager was very kind to me and seemed genuinely appalled when I told her about how her very rude, very unprofessional sales clerk had treated me. Crazy... However, rude sales clerk aside, it really is a fabulous toy store (very hands-on), GREAT display windows, tons of brain teaser puzzles (a favorite of my oldest child), games galore, and, yes, there happen to be flying monkeys everywhere! Magic Mouse is the new cornerstone of Pioneer Square for me, now that Elliott Bay is gone. This place will keep me coming back as long as it's around. If you're looking for baby toys, novelties, books, games, or even a choice Smurf for your collection, they've got them. One of the coolest things about the space is that it makes use of the underground level, so if you've never done the Underground tour you can get a sense of the original street level while you search for toys. Exploring the nooks and crannies of the downstairs is my favorite part - and if you search through the puzzle alcove, through the book hall, past the games you will even find a little treasure trove of sale items in the back corner! An absolute must-visit for locals or tourists headed to P-Square. read more

This place isn't for kids but for child-free hipsters wanting to get their nephew or niece an original toy not found at a big chain store. Granted, they do have a nice selection of toys, but I didn't find the shopping experience that great. When I walked in with my 3 and 5yo, there was a laughing monkey toy on the floor at the entrance which of course my 3yo was immediately attracted to. The store attendant asked her to not touch it. When I asked him what was wrong, he said he didn't want her to hold it by the tail. Great! No problem, why didn't he just say that?? We started to explore the ground floor but my daughter announced that she needed to use the bathroom. I was then informed that The store doesn't have a public restroom and I would have to use the one at Starbucks across pioneer square. What in the world??? read more

I came in here to look at toys, get my inner child on, however, the stuff was very rude, condescending and essentially scolding me like a little child for things that were irrelevant. I am not 5. Even so how does someone like this work in a toy store? A toy store with children that come in all the time. I've wondered on past trips why a toy store with great selection of toys in a heavy traffic area always seemed quiet inside...now I know. I don't have an iphone, therefore, could not look up this place in advance but I am glad from reading the other reviews that I am not alone in this. Clearly they must not be net savvy to read the reviews on the customer service to even reconsider changing employment and or how they interact with staff. read more

But, the woman, who I am pretty sure was the owner, couldn't recommend a store in Seattle that might have it. Forget the big giraffe, this place is much more unique and far less run of the mill. Every time I walk in here I get the feeling some small, independent toy maker has stuff in here you won't find many other places. You don't feel bad about touching things either. Great selection of toys, puzzles, anything you can imagine. The staff lacks customer service skills. I'm sure that stems from the man who I assume is the manager of the store. He was so rude to his own employees I could not believe it. I watched a member of the staff rudely interrupt a couple that was simply checking out some items. She needed to take their bags and put them behind the counter. Her approach was cold and rude. They need some serious customer service training. I called in to see if they had a specific toy I was looking for for my son's birthday. They said they had it and I sent someone to pick it up. It was not the right toy, and not only was it the wrong toy but it had missing pieces. No big deal, until I tried to return it. The clerk grabbed the reciept out of my hand and said, "it says right here no returns." I asked to speak to a manager and they said there wasn't a manager. I left my number so someone could call me back but have never heard back from them. They do have an ok selection of toys, but there are so many great toy stores in the area that have a better selection and actually take good care of their customers. read more

i love independant toy stores! This one still has some of the brand name stuff- but there is a lot of love for the quailty european brands as well. I love the clean lines and simple colors of the european baby toys. They have a wide array of things here- baby toys, stuffed animals and dolls upstairs and games, books and learning toys downstairs. My in-laws came for a vist and nearly bought my daughter the whole store! If you are in Portland for a visit, stop at Finnegan's toys downtown- it is a very similar and just as great! read more

My wife and I had a night away in Seattle recently, and forgot our box game of "Fluxx" which is one of our current favorites. We went to a local chain store and were unable to find a copy for us to use while we were relaxing in our favorite coffee shop. We stumbled upon Magic Mouse Toys in Pioneer Square. Such an amazing store, filled with all of the games you could imagine. This place is a riot! the first time i went a worker blew a butterfly in my face and scared me so terribly though it was a fun laugh:) Perfect place to buy a gift for game players, chess players, and CHILDREN! The place has so many beautiful dolls, kids toys, stuffed animals, and board games. All two stories are packed corner to corner with rolling hamsters, tricks, BOOKS, and miniature figurines. I bought one of the moving hamsters and I'm pleased to say it still entertains. My mom who hates boardgames and stuffed animals found things she enjoyed. WARNING: any parent who goes in MUST buy a toy..many kids come out crying that don't. What surprised me was the classic dolls and large variety of games. Large toy store in Pioneer Square. It's been a downtown fixture for quite a while. They have a great selection of toys that are of higher quality/value then the average chain toy store. Its got two floors and has sort of a cave like feel due to all the different rooms. Staff is hit and miss when it comes to service, but everything else about the store is top notch. Prices are a little higher then the mall, but hey, who the hell wants to shop at the mall??? read more

Super cute and fun toy store for kids and adults! Unfortunately we went in 20 minutes to close so I didn't get to browse as much as I wanted. I loved the puzzle cave-it had tons of adults and kids puzzles. The book section was also excellent. Lots of different big and small names in toys. I was last there when I was Ten but I found my mini personalized name plate in about thirty seconds, so I remember that foundly. Also I remember there being not enough time for me to look over all the toys ont he first floor. It was awesome. We were visiting Seattle with our Girl Scout troop and the girls made a special request to visit the store since some of them had really pleasant memories of it. Not so much anymore. We were met rudely at the door and turned away. We had ten girls so I understand the immediate response, even though the store was empty. What I didn't understand is that they wouldn't even work with us when I offered to take 2 or 3 girls in at a time just to look around while the others waited outside with another adult. The girls' happy memories are now forever replaced with a very sour one, and that is the story that will be told to their friends and their friends' friends. I will never go there again. read more

One of the best selection of toys and games in Seattle. It seems that many of the smaller independent toy stores have struggled in recent years, and have had a difficult time competing against the online giant smiley face, but this place seems to be doing well. Their service really sets them apart. This place has something to appeal to all ages, and is a great place to shop for birthday gifts. This is a wonderful store to just roam around in. Two stories packed to the rafters with toys of every shape, size, age group and price. A great childrens' book department too. Add an ice cream counter and the ten year old I was would never have left. Even if you don't shop for toys I'd recommend stopping by to take it all in at least once. read more
