I've been coming to magic grill for almost 10 years. Nothing has changed, and that is a very good thing. The price point is excellent, the only reason they stay in business is the sheer volume of high school kids coming in from neighboring towns every night, and the wait staff which totals two middle aged asian women are the nicest people you'll meet The food is general mongolian buffet with choices of sides. The food is always very good, the meat goes from frozen right onto the blast-furnace-temperature grill, and the veggies are always fresh. The sauces don't seem to vary much in taste other than spiciness, but they include a couple oils, wine, garlic, chili oil, and peanuts for taste. For the price you pay, the amount of food available is enormous. Don't forget to order extra dumplings when you go, they're outstanding! It was my second visit here and I got STOMACHACHE after that. The food seems clean and fresh but I guess the cook didn't cook it well. He got the water directly from the tap and put into the food to cook. Less than 2 minutes he done the cooking already. The waitresses were actually very nice but the cook we saw was just so inpatient and I saw him yelling at the customers while we were there. Anyway, we will never come back again. read more

This place has a special spot in my heart i have been going here since high school. However I realized as I am older now this quality isn't as good as I remember but I was also just happy to be at an all you can eat place where you watch them cook with the guys from my football team. Don't let that sway you This food is awesome but you get what you pay for... all you can eat frozen meats that get story fried in front of you! I still go there because it brings back good memories. They have all options including vegetarian or you can go straight up vegan. Not a shred of doubt in my mind as I scroll over that coveted fifth star. Though I pay for it hours later, stuffing my fat mug at this place leaves me nothing but satisfied. The other reviewers seem to sum the place up pretty good - fixed price (which seems to change when I come in sometimes), cafeteria style serving, food is raw, create your own sauce, and a scraggly guy will grill it with what looks like a broken pool cue. I can not get over what "Charles G." wrote about this place...."Some old lady recently drove a car through the window and into the dining room, and they went on with BUSINESS AS USUAL" cracks me up. Magic grill is one of those places that makes my day so much better. The veggies are fresh (contrary to the appearance of the rest of the restaurant) and the rice dumplings you get with your meal are awesome. It's a pretty dumpy place, but the food makes up for it ten times over. Put lots of sauce in your bowl, the recommendations they make are bs. read more

Magic Grill, first off, is VERY cheap... It's the main reason I usually go with my friend around lunch time. Don't get me wrong, I ABSOLUTELY LOVE the food. For those that aren't familiar with Mongolian BBQ, it's buffet style, but you load up your bowl with uncooked meats, vegetables, and any combination of sauces and you give it to the chef to cook it up for you on a grill. When he gives it back to you, you can top it off with peanuts & sesame seeds and seeing your bowl oozing with steam just makes your mouth water. You can go up as many times as you want, although I heard they charge an additional $1 each bowl past the first, which I personally have never had happen to me, and even if they did, it's still worth it! You get free choice of soup and these rice dumplings that are fantastic! (You usually have to ask for the rice dumplings). Customer service is on point also My only complaint: I don't know what it is, maybe a cultural thing, but almost ALL Mongolian BBQ places that I've been to have a very bare minimum atmosphere, barely anything on the walls, and it feels like your eating in a dusty rundown warehouse. This is apparently just how it is. I would highly suggest not bringing anyone here that you plan on impressing, it is 100% casual and a quick fix meal. Not fancy by any means read more

Glad that I read all your reviews before going. Totally agree that the exterior and interior are not exactly fine dining standard. But look at this price $6.75 lunch (one serving) $7.50 brunch on sat and sun all you can eat $12 dinner all you can eat, comes with soup, drink/soda, and rice dumpling BOYB it's a pretty standard mongolian grill. buffet style. you pick your filling and sauces (remember the garlic and ginger!) and the 'chefs' cook them for you. don't be greedy (like i did today), it's all you can eat, so you can always get a second serving with a different sauce if you still have room. though the soup and rice dumpling (which is quite one of a kind and awesome with the sweet vinegar sauce). the server (i guess she's the owner) is super friendly too which is a plus. definitely will come back again. and next time i'll know that it's BYOB too!! read more

This place is a dump lately. I had a previous review up, but removed all my reviews from Yelp! and went to a new website. My review deserves to stay here to warn people. I stopped going here. The last two times I went there was hair in the dumplings. One was embedded in the rice, so I know it wasn't mine. Like packed in. Another was in the sauce. Last time I went my glass was covered in a semen like subtance.. white all over. Now we've been going here for 20+ years or so and I didn't know whether to mention it or not. There wasn't even a spot I could sip my drink from. I finally asked the lady after my friend and I were talking it over for like 5 minutes and she says it's hand cream. Who the hell serves a glass with that much hand cream on it? I could care less that the bathrooms aren't that nice, or the ceiling tiles are all stained.. but to serve meals like this no thanks. There's other Mongolian Grills that are better. Brick, NJ has a really good one. There's a few others that are decent as well, but some of them lose points with me because they have no bowls.. they only have plates, so you can't load up on sauce. read more

I stopped here after trader joes. Had a place similar to this in North Carolina and have been craving it. The appearance and cleanliness of this place is definitely not the greatest. The windows from the outside look like they haven't been cleaned in a long time. But the two Chinese ladies that are normally there are very nice. Like normal mongolian BBQ u go and make your own plate and add whatever sauces you'd like. The station with meats and veggies are basic. (Chicken, pork, beef, broccoli, onion, pineapple, etc.) and it's normally clean. The window separating you from where the food is cooked is super grimey. If you're having a craving for mongolian BBQ this place isn't terrible though I've had much better. Service is great too. Bathrooms are sketchy. read more

My favorite hole-in-the-wall for lunch! If you come here more than a few times, the owner (a really, really nice lady) will remember your choice of soup/drink and ask you regularly about your family. She remembers everything you tell her. This place has lots of regulars -- people who work nearby and students home on break. In addition to the food and sauces you choose to fill your bowl, the meal is served with some soup and rice. They offer brown rice, which I love to get. The hot-and-spicy soup is their best soup. The rice serving seems to get smaller and smaller (it was probably 1/3cup when I went today), but it's not a big deal because you will be plenty stuffed from just one trip to the bbq line. They have slices of chicken, beef, pork, as well as tofu, along with noodles and lots of vegetables: broccoli, carrots, bok choy, scallions, mushrooms, peppers, bean sprouts, onions, and more. This is not the most proper looking Asian cuisine restaurant (or cleanest for that matter), but damnit they make great food. Incredible value... around $12 gets you unlimited buffet, soup, and dumplings. Put together whatever you please in a bowl and they cook it up right there for you on a large stone. I've been here exactly twice. Once was back in the early 2000s when I lived nearby. I remember it being good - maybe bc I was in college and my standards for food were low. I went back again a couple weeks ago, after years and years of forgetting about it (even though I pass it somewhat regularly) and was NOT impressed. You walk in, and the first thing you notice is that it's dirty. The windows, the ceilings. How is that sanitary? But I staying bc my memory was better than that. I was wrong. I was unimpressed by the selections (two words: mystery meat) and the wonton soup was sour, as in not fresh. We didn't really finish our meals and hurried out feeling full but gross. Really good Mongolian Beef, the place it's self was very dated but the food was worth the older decor. I was able to make shrimp/ scallop/ beef/ chicken which strangely taste GREAT together. You put the meat, vegetables, noodles, and sauces you want into a bowl and then hand it to the cook and you watch him cook it over the grill top. The staff here is very friendly. This place is a classic. I have been going here since I was a child. When I was a kid, they would always give me a lollipop before I left. I'll never forget how sweet the workers are here. The food is good if you get the sauce mix right. We always leave fat and happy. My only real problem was with my last visit, we only got one refill of our water for the hour we were there. They charged us for the tap water and then confronted us about not leaving a tip on the check when we tipped the cook and more than 20%. The owner expected us to tip twice despite the horrible service and the charge on two glasses of tap water. Going to look for a new place if they don't improve their service and stop attacking their customers. read more

My friends and I love coming here for Mongolian BBQ! I have held gathering here a few times over the past few years. Every time it has been a great experience. I love the food and making my own sauce. I used to go to the Round grill in New Brunswick and when that closed I need a new place and this is great option. I, like many others, was a big fan of JP Lee's in Millburn. I always loved their chinese buffet as well as the mongolian bbq. This mongolian bbq is bbq only. They have the frozen meat and veg assembly line and cook on the flat top grill, but no other options accept for choice of soup and rice dumplings. The veg options are nice, and they were working hard to keep everything in stock. However, the line backed up quickly, and only 2 dishes are cooked at a time. While I appreciate that everything got cooked, the line/wait was a bit of an annoyance. They do takeout here, so sometimes 5-6 people came in and all got right in line and then just left. If they could do something about the wait time, maybe add menu options, and cut down the wait it would be 5 stars. As it is, be prepared to wait, but end up with a nice dish to enjoy. read more

Absolutely love coming here with friends! Despite the modest cheap aesthetic (or lack thereof) of the restaurant, the vegetables and meat are very high quality. My only criticism is that occasionally, when they pour bowls onto the wok, certain things get mixed into other people's bowls. However, I like 99% of the stuff there, so it's not a huge deal for me! Could see why it'd be a bit of a problem if you were a strict vegan though. Definitely give this place a try. The wait staff are very quirky (in a good way!) and become like family after a few times. It's probably unlike any place you've ever been, so try to bring a friend who knows how to navigate the system. I probably am too rusty to give you the correct run through, so I'll skip that. This place has a cult following. My husband lived in Westfield for a year.and told me how he and his friends went there every Sunday morning for breakfast. When we were in the area a few years back he was so excited to take me there! Immagine my surprise when I found a hole in the wall with booths not even attached to the floor or walls. Putting all prissyness aside, the appitizer dumpling and soup (included in the meal price) were good, better than good. I loved the fact I could choose how much and exactly what I wanted. Lunch servings are one bowl only, dinners are unlimited refills! The spicy sauces could be a little spicier for me, but there are pepper flakes available. One word of warning, there is not air conditioning. We went in the summer once on a 90+ degree day; that combined with the heat from the grill basically amounted to one of the most uncomfortable meals of my life! But other than that, give it a go! If you get an order to go, you get soup, rice and an order or noodles for 7.50. Not a bad deal! I do have a gripe with the noodles. They are so dry! The sign limits you to 3 ladles of sauce and one has to be an oil. The grill master dude watched to make sure I only used 3. When I got the food home I poured the soup on the noodles to make them a bit more edible. They were still dry and tasteless. Good thing I had some stir fry sauce, soy sauce and duck sauce on hand. Then of course I shot it with rooster sauce. That helped it a lot. I asked the cashier for teriyaki sauce before I left and she gave me the stuff that you dip dumplings in. I didn't use that on my noodles because that just doesn't mix. All and all, it was just okay. If they kick up their sauce options they would get 5 stars and be my go to noodle place in NJ. Nothing in the world beats magic grill. Go here so often they know us now! Hot & Sour soup is delicious with some brown rice and soy sauce thrown in. The dumplings are to die for, and the best part.... make your own Mongolian bbq dish. They have all sorts of things for you to choose from. There are 3 meats, and some seafood options. Fresh veggies and delicious sauces. They guys at the grill are hilarious and so nice. It looks icky, but don't like that fool you. It's the best meal ever, and super cheap. It's also all you can eat! Hadn't been here in years and now I remember why. The service is rushed and unfriendly. The place is sad -- lackluster and dirty. And the food is equally pathetic. From the bland, oily wonton soup to the gummy, overdone dumplings to the main star: the BBQ. Don't bother thinking about which sauce to use -- it will all taste the same. They don't clean the grill in between so you also get the added bonus of burnt bits that get lifted from the grill where your food is carelessly made. read more
