Action Entertainment was set-up on time and ready to start well before the ceremony. Rob and Rob were our MC and DJ. Both Robs were amazing! Rob, the DJ, had called us earlier in the week to check up on some of the song recommendations we had put in, and he made sure to chat with us again before the ceremony started to make sure everything was as planned. There were a few moments we hadn't known to plan for music (due to our poor planning, not Action Entertainments) and when we asked Rob to surprise us, he absolutely delivered! He also took guest requests in stride and had everyone dancing the whole time (like honestly, it was hard to get people to sit and eat!). Rob, the MC, was also amazing! He was so personable and fun, he had everyone up on their feet! We immediately felt so comfortable chatting with Rob and he made sure that the party kept on going! I feel terrible because I did not catch the name of the person working the photobooth, but I can tell you he was wonderfully attentive and helpful. The guests had a great time at the photobooth and we are so grateful to have such fun souvenirs from the wedding! If you want a great party, Action Entertainment is the company to call! The balloon show was equally disappointing--low energy, boring, and with little to no interaction with the children. Instead of making the kids feel included and entertained, it felt like they were simply watching something with no real engagement. The characters seemed unprepared, disconnected, and lacking the energy needed for this type of event. At a 4-year-old's birthday party, the entertainers should be leading the energy in the room--talking to the kids, playing with them, making them laugh, and creating memorable moments. I had grown up listening to Mos Def and expected the wit, warmth, and effortless cool of "Ms. Fat Booty." Instead, Yasiin Bey arrived in a more poetic and experimental mode, with the intellectual intensity and Rick Owens aesthetic of an artist still pushing forward. Arriving by subway and seeing that incredible Apollo sign glowing over 125th Street immediately made the night feel important. The theater felt more like a temple than a concert hall, with its deep red interior, velvet seats, and intimate layout bringing the audience remarkably close to the stage. I remember sitting in the auditorium thinking about how many legends had performed there and how much of the music I listened to every day had passed through that building. Throughout the performance, the crowd listened with such intelligence and appreciation that the evening felt almost like attending a class inside a concert. Yasiin Bey was cerebral, theatrical, and willing to challenge expectations, while the Apollo audience completed the exchange with its focus and responsiveness. Sitting there felt sacred and deeply moving, as though I had entered a living tradition rather than simply visited a famous old theater. Years later, my fortune had changed dramatically: instead of power lunches at Casa Lever on Park Avenue, I was schlepping couches into fifth-floor walk-up apartments in Harlem. After one job, as a snowstorm began, I passed the Apollo on my walk to the subway, and its iconic sign brought back a happy memory from before my capitalist world collapsed. On the 6 train downtown, I thought again about how honored I had felt to enter a place so central to Black music, New York, and the culture that shaped my identity. Some institutions can be understood through photographs and history books, but the Apollo has to be entered, heard, and felt, and I hope to bring my children there someday.

We picked Vali Entertainment's "Big Mix" band for our NJ wedding ceremony and reception…read more It was extremely easy getting in contact with the owner, John. He was amazing to work with. We did have to drive into the city to meet with him but that was our choice as the customer. He works remotely. We went with the "Big Mix" and could not be more ecstatic with our choice. We personally met with the band leader Joe who listened to event request and OVER DELIVERED. in fact, we sent him sheet music before the wedding because we changed the song for our first dance and not only did they play it well but they ROCKED IT. I think another testament to their quality was that once of my bridesmaids who isn't a "dancer" told me that because the band was so awesome she danced to all but THREE songs. Also, the majority of our guests stayed until the end where the band ended the night with a perfect sounded Frank Sinatra version of "New York, New York". Vali entertainment follows through on the excellent standard they promise to deliver. Choose them and people will also be telling you "that was the best wedding band I've ever seen."

I was told not to book any entertainment until we saw Vali Entertainment perform at his sons wedding because they promised an amazing show. Unfortunately, his experience was the complete opposite. Cocktail hour was supposed to feature a singer, but instead it felt more like three musicians having an informal jam session. During the introductions of the families, bridal party, and the bride and groom, the vocals were so low that many guests could barely hear them. The father, who owns a production company, went to the sound engineer. The mixer showed the vocal levels were already at their maximum. Two concert sound engineers attending as guests also believed the speakers being used should have been capable of covering the room. Thankfully, the staff at Legacy Castle stepped in and allowed the entertainment to use the venue's house sound system, which immediately improved the audio. Unfortunately, the energy of the performance never matched the expectations for a wedding of this caliber. The father asked what had happened to Sam, the performer he believed had been booked, and was simply told, "The music will get better." It never did. Eventually, the father had his own production team shorten the band's performance and start the DJ earlier than planned. That decision completely changed the atmosphere and helped save the reception. Based on everything I was told, I would personally look elsewhere when choosing entertainment. When expectations are set this high, the performance should meet them--especially at such an important event.
