Nice that we have a raceway in our backyard. Easy to from the LIE. Parking on a grassy field. Tickets were available for $40 cash only which moved relatively quick, but advanced tickets can be purchased online. It is all bleacher seating, no stairs. If you want to avoid debris, I recommend sitting closer to mid to upper levels. Maybe a pair of glasses and a cap to shield the eyes. Lots of exhaust and burning rubber. There were several races which were fun to watch which included the figure 8 and the trailer race (there were boats and jet skis on trailers!). The main feature was the school bus demolition derby which was a hoot. They would back into one another and the last one standing wins. There are concession and merchandise stands if you wanted to pick up something. It took quite a while to leave the field because it all converged to the main road. Worth trying at least once if you're a racing fan.

It was small, and "quaint" years ago, and has now morphed into a big money factory. The bottom line is that the casino itself is HUGE. TRYING HARD This place tries real hard, but there always seem to be things that make a visit trying. I was not happy with the signs at all. They are confusing, in some cases missing, and sometimes poorly placed. Also, some of the staff seem to be on Mars. Two of them fumbled a simple question like, "Where can I get a racing program?" THE $39.95 PRIX FIXE On this latest visit, we hit the Empire Terrace for the $39.95 prix fixe. It was good, and "as advertised." But, when a fellow diner threw them a curve ball, like a simple side order of mashed taters, they messed it up. A server came out and hesitantly served an ugly glop of powdered potatoes, on a gigantic, lonely plate -- 15 minutes before any other food came out! The Chocolate Peanut Butter Cake was fantastic. THE ENTERTAINMENT Of course, it is a lot of fun betting on the horses, and watching them out the window! (I was not lucky this evening.) The casino itself is colorful and noisy and "typical." The bands in the lounge are invariably talented and fun to watch. The parking situation is just so-so, as ya gotta take a bus because the lot is SO huge! All in all, it is a worthwhile experience, though I couldn't do it often. THE OTHERS Not all gambling is innocent entertainment. You will undoubtedly notice that there are many, MANY people here who have a very "different" experience than a diner at Empire Terrace might. They appear shabbily dressed, and down on their luck. You won't see them in the restaurants, or dancing to the music from the band. I can't comment on their experience, but I noticed they were fleeced, just like the rest of us. But they didn't seem to have the cash to spare. So, that's here, too, remember.

Guests should not feel intimidated or threatened with removal before an issue is properly resolved, especially in an environment that is supposed to be fun. Even NYPD would likely handle guests with more courtesy and professionalism. The regular staff seemed much nicer and more respectful, which made the Lieutenant's conduct stand out even more. And on top of that, you barely win. Go to Queens instead. Have fun.

The park is in an idyllic location, with gorgeous, hilly scenery as the back drop to the track. The race we attended was such a fun way to spend an afternoon with family. You seemed to be able to bring your own picnics, which makes sense because there is camping there also. There were also plenty of food trucks and vendors, beer tents, etc. and of course lots of cool race cars to look at. Pit row was open for fans to walk around and get close up, which was very cool. My 6 year old son was able to get a racer's autograph on his hat, and he thought that was pretty cool. The event staff seemed pretty lax, friendly, and helpful. We were with my parents, who especially appreciated the golf cart ride to the track from the parking area and back. Great experience and looking forward to returning.
