I really enjoyed Maureen's Jazz cellar when I went for the first time the other night. The staff was extremely friendly and welcoming-I was there for the Saturday late night piano music when they don't have a cover which is really nice. I'm pretty sure they have the free piano show every Saturday starting at 10 PM. It was a rainy night and this was exactly the type of place I wanted to be. I didn't get any food but I was able to get a Watermelon vodka seltzer canned beverage which was awesome. The place is tastefully decorated and it has a very cozy vibe with a few tables near the main stage area. The piano player was very good but I wish he just played songs and skipped the stupid jokes all night... there were some guest singers as well which was really fun. I look forward to going again hopefully for one of the Jazz shows and maybe will sample some of their food as well. read more

The cover charge was so affordable, we decided we would try this venue as opposed to eating out somewhere else . It's a summer night and the room was half full. Our expectations were that we'd have an okay musical experience, get a little something to eat and go home and watch some more K-dramas. The reality shattered that ho-hum scenario. The band "Eric DeVito Trio" were top notch musicians. So unbelievably skilled in their crafts, it's unconscionable to me that they are not universally known. I've paid so much more to listen to and to enjoy less talented bands. This was so much fun! I'll be looking to follow these guys in the future, for sure! Not much for alcohol these days so we ordered mock cocktails (nice enough) and a thin crust Margarita pizza that was prepared upstairs at Toriello's Pizzeria in Nyack. It was excellent. My family went here in November 2024 for Open Mic Night. My cousin and uncle arrived right on time to sign up to perform. Despite their early sign up, they were one of the very last people to get to play. If you go for "open" mic night, just know that if you're not a regular, they won't treat you respectfully or inclusively. They strictly enforced no speaking while everyone else performed. My bother has severe allergies, and I whispered to ask him if he's allergic to peas before ordering an app for us, and when he responded to me - a woman "shh"d him in his face. Then when my uncle and cousin sang, everyone was talking. I lived in Nyack for nine years. It's so disappointing to go back to a place where I, and many of my family, call home - and be treated so disrespectfully. I've never experienced this kind of disrespect at any other bar or restaurant in Nyack. I honestly posted this in November and then deleted it, because I only try to spread positive reviews on here. As it was still bothering me months later, I thought non-regulars who go for open mic night should be made aware. read more

I went here for the Christmas sing-along and it was so worth it! The different singers were fantastic and so entertaining and even funny. This is a truly wonderful place to go listen to local talent - it's got the right vibe. The owner is a great host and a true talent in his own right (we had been listening to his recordings online before we went and were thrilled to hear him perform live...he's an outstanding professional pianist) Remember, this is a listening room - a place to enjoy music while being respectful to the musicians who share their talent with us...not to chat up a storm while they work just several feet from your seat. (There was plenty of time to talk before and after performances) We attended an open mic night and thoroughly enjoyed the talent & the crowd. It's exactly what I thought it'd be when I read "Jazz Cellar." - I love that the website is kept updated with upcoming shows for the month. - The dim lighting and purple walls create an intimate environment. - Small tables throughout that all have a view of the stage. Come here to enjoy a show and have a cocktail. They offer a few food items but please keep in mind this is not a restaurant. If you're hungry and looking for a meal then you're better off eating at a nearby restaurant. If you're looking for a light snack, then Maureen's has you covered. Looking for something different to do in the area on a Friday night. This place opened around 7ish with plenty of available seating near the "stage". Entry is $20 for that night but no drink minimum. Band is supposed to start at 8pm but slowly gathers themselves to get going around 8:15. Catchy beats overall and some humor mixed in as well. For drinks, the beers range from $5-12, and the wine $8-16. Got one of the canned beers ($10) to go along with some Pretzel/Mustard combo ($7). Pretzel is separated into three large soft sticks, drizzled by spicy mustard. Not bad overall and easy to eat with the beer. Service is fantastic; waitress came by often without being disruptive. Crowd definitely skews towards the older side, which is a nice reprieve from some bro-y bars nearby. Recommend stopping by if in the mood. read more

When you envision a jazz a club... it's easy to picture this venue. The Jazz Cellar is reminiscent of a venue you may find in the village. The vibe is ultra cool and can be that of a Harlem Night. The setting is intimate and the details in the decor of the place gives it all sorts o character and style. As you go down the stairs there are instruments on the wall. The hostess station is a music stand and the bar looks like a pianos perch with piano keys! The acoustics are just right to be able to hear the talent. I have been here a hand full of times before and always discover something new whether it be in the decor or a band I haven't heard before. Open mic night is always a good time and the crowd is cool. Saturday nights are always a sure thing for a great jam band that uplifts your spirits. Service is great and everyone is professional, gracious and welcoming. I made my way into this lovely place last night after deciding I was in the mood for a cozy jazz night. To my surprise they had a live Blue grass band! Which I'll be honest isn't my first choice of music but even so, the acoustics, the mellow crowd, the genuine vibes, the older people freely moving to the rhythm of the banjo, and the company made it such a special night. Fiona, the lady tending to us, was very attentive and welcoming and kept the wine coming! I will definitely be back. read more

I've been wanting to check this place out for about a year or so. I live in the city and was in hopes of booking some jazz acts from New York. I walk into to the club...it looks quite lovely. I asked the bar tender how I could speak with the person who books the club. The bar tender looked at me like I had two heads. He then explained to me that "this is not a book club"! I really tried to explain to him what I meant without laughing in his face. He could not grasp what I was asking him. As I was walking out the door, I observed some Grateful Dead stuff on the walls and I realize that this probably is not the place I was hoping it was. Too funny. read more

This was our third visit to Maureen's and, once again, we loved it. We were treated to great music in a warm and festive setting. Walking down the staircase into the cellar reminded me of going to a jazz club in New Orleans. The owners are actively involved in the club and it shows. The staff is very welcoming and professional. We saw a three musician ensemble plus a delightful and spirited female singer playing songs from the 30's & 40's. We loved our evening and will be back soon!!! read more

What a great space for jazz. A real "listening room" - don't expect to have a loud conversation with some background music. Barry Miles and Terry Silverlight were superb. If you can catch them there again, go. Wondered why we had never heard of this place and found out it only opened 8 months ago. But still, the 8 p.m. show was full. We walked in without reservations and got one of the last spots at the bar, which was still a great seat. Reservations probably a good idea. Menu is limited, but the sampler platter was very good and very generous - olives, stuffed grape leaves and one of few I have ever had where they give you enough warm pita to go with the hummus. Arugula pizza came from the restaurant upstairs and was very tasty with a crunchy thin crust. Kuka Belgian Blonde ale on tap from a local microbrewery was delicious. Only negative - parking in Nyack is tough. But still easier and less expensive than driving into the city. Will definitely be back. read more

(The bar includes a true "piano bar" within its wood framework - truly unique) There is a small plate menu as well - Having dinner prior we did not partake At evening end your bill may arrive between the strings of a miniature toy size guitar. Can't remember the last time I smiled when receiving a bill... Granted your enjoyment at any venue is strongly dependent on the performers and we were fortunate enough to listen to the wonderful duo of Kristina Koller & Willerm Delisfort. Regardless - Given the chance this place can be special. There are so few Jazz establishments in the Nyack / Westchester County area. Here's hoping Maureen's a keeper. read more

Seated in the quaint town of Nyack, NY is one of the Hudson Valley's secret little music venues. Almost hidden off the corner of Broadway and Main Street (on the Broadway Side) is this speakeasy like location. After descending the staircase to the "Cellar" you will find a space not crowded with flashy jukeboxes and big screen tv's flashing the latest sports game, nor will you find the sticky floor bar room atmosphere that one would expect to find in a small almost underground environment. Instead it opens up to a "back in time" scene when jazz clubs sold drinks, played great music and that was it. This venue hosts a myriad of events and shows from the performances of jazz and blues elites, All That Drag (Drag Show), to Reggae nights with I Anbassa and the Word. Sound. Power. Movement. My boyfriend and I were staying in Valley Cottage and were looking for something to do Saturday night. After seeing that Maureen's had excellent Yelp reviews, and reading about Maureen's story, we were excited to go to a show there. Fortunately, Life Before Midi was playing and they really kept us entertained. Carl Burnett and his bassist and drummer are so talented, and we had a special surprise from their guest singer, Irene Blackman. She is amazing and has a beautiful voice. I spoke to her afterwards and she is so sweet--she invited us to her future shows in the city. Maureen's makes a delicious Moscow Mule and my boyfriend enjoyed his port wine. On our next visit, Bud yelled at me and my partner, in front of the room, because we mistakenly did not leave enough of a tip. Then all night Bud would go the mic and actually say "If you don't spend money, you're not getting up on stage". Bud and his wife are strategically nice to people and treat others like crap. The service was bad as I asked 3 times for a menu and never got it. And when you complain, the staff, Bud and his wife just shrug their shoulders in an eff you manner. So only go to Maureen's open mic if you plan to spend lots of money. Both nights we spent about $60 each so I have no idea what the price to perform is. Hey Bud, how much does it cost for me to perform 2 songs at your open mic? I asked 3 times for a menu and never got it. And when you complain, the staff, Bud and his wife just shrug their shoulders in an eff you manner. So only go to their open mic if you plan to spend lots of money. Both nights we spent about $60 each time. Other musician probably won't complain and put up with Bud's crap to get booked and Bud knows it and treats most musicians like garbage. This place is a gem of a jazz club with a vibe that you would find in the best hidden-away, Cavern-like jazz clubs found in capital cities around the world. Our group of four "50-somethings" attended the early show on a Friday night. A packed audience was eager to hear co-owner David Budway on piano and superb additional members of the Ensemble: cello bass, drums and saxophone. After the high intensity, straight-on 45 minute session of jazz classics, and originals penned by the highly regarded staff sax player, a wonderful singer came on stage. She belted out three songs in the tradition of Ella Fitzgerald. "This Could Be The Start Of Something Big" was perhaps the best, is a a well-known, beloved upbeat tune which this chanteuse absolutely knocked out of the park. The delicious cafe-type menu of craft pizzas, Mediterranean appetizers and interesting desserts was icing on the jazz cake (bad pun intended). Prices are VERY reasonable for all food and drinks when considering the quality of the entertainment. All in all, this establishment is an absolute gift to the Nyack nightlife scene, and well worth a drive over the Tappan Zee Bridge if, like our group, you are coming from Westchester County. SPREAD THE WORD and savor the best metro area jazz club scene outside of NYC! read more

I rarely give 5 stars but this place definitely deserves it. My friend and I stumble into this place at about 9:30 on a Sunday night and there was a show going on. It was for a charity that was helping to adopt a child. Somehow there was 1 table right in the front available. So we take it and little did we know what we were in for. All of a sudden we're immersed into the act and they keep throwing zingers at us for coming late. The performer puts us on blast and starts asking questions about how we had met each other. Embarrassing but hilarious.... and what a talent he was. One second having the crowd dying laughing to the next playing broadway tunes with perfect tune. There was a variety of different singers and acts that went up and we had an amazing time. The food isn't big meals, just share plates like cheese and hummus but it works for the type of environment you're in. A great wine menu to go along with it. It was overall a little pricy but to be honest, the experience was priceless. I highly recommend you check out the jazz cellar. I'd even call ahead and see if they have any shows coming up cause it's def worth it. read more
