After walking by several times during our time in Madrid, we finally decided to stop in. For Americans visiting, note that churros are much different here than what you get in the US. I would preface by saying, churros are thinner and kind of crispy and do not come coated in cinnamon sugar. That being said, I didn't love the churros with chocolate here. Ours were really crispy and the chocolate was thin and flavorless. The ordering was slightly confusing for me; there were two sizes of chocolate which had numbers that made it seem like that's how many churros you got with your chocolate. Not the case. Both things are separate. We happened to walk by a different day and hubs saw a new pistachio-filled porro. We both enjoyed that much more than the churros. read more

Interesting experience. I'm accustomed to churros coated in granulated sugar back in the states, so assumed that's what I was ordering. The photos on the menu wasn't clear. The cashier asked if I wanted the original because it's freshly made & crunchy, naturally I said, yes. It was, indeed, fresh & crunchy but not sweet! It was savory. It tasted similar to the fried Chinese cruller (youtiao), so I enjoyed it very much but I could see how some may be disappointed with this original version. Really enjoyed these churros. This was the only place with gluten free churros in Madrid and I was so glad that they not only looked good but tasted yummy. I got them with cinnamon sugar and they were delicious. My friends really enjoyed their regular churros. The staff were friendly and made sure to let me know that my order was made in a separate fryer to the rest of the churros. Fair prices. This was ehhh... Technically this is 2 stars lol but I gave a third because the guy gave us an extra churro for free Only thing I really liked here were their thin chocolate churros. I also tried their pink panther, caramel filled churro, and flores... they were stale. The only churros they make fresh are the regular, chocolate, and mini churros. Don't get the ones on display unless you see them placing newly made churros there. Their hot chocolate with dulce is alright. Make sure you mix it well before drinking. Good to dunk churros in. I stopped here on my way to the Market De San Miguel, my tour guide said there was a very famous churro place around here somewhere that was open 24 hours a day. Guess I jumped the gun a bit and didn't check. There were a bunch of different types of churros, ones filled with cream or chocolate. ones dipped in chocolate, others that you got the chocolate separately and dipped them yourself. So many to choose from; A feast for the eyes! I chose a cream filled one, it was good but nothing unique or special. I feel like i've tasted a donut that was very similar before. I guess when i go to a place that specializes in churros, i want to taste something unique or out of this world good, maybe even freshly fried to order. I did not get that here. We came in to try their XXL stuffed Churros because they looked so delicious. This was our first churro shop that offered fillings in their churros however were kinda of disappointed. The churros were not crispy in texture. The dulce de leche churro filling was not our cup of tea however the vanilla filled churros was. Maestro Churrero offers regular chocolate con churros but after the xxl churro we were pretty full and didn't want to order another round. This shop is either a hit or a miss depending on what you order. I think it's best to just try the regular chocolate con churros over anything else. read more

I had my first chocolate filled churro in Barcelona three years ago. Ever since then, I have been wanting another one. I was on my way back to my hotel and passed this shop. There was an assortment of churros in the case. I knew they were going to be bad when I realized that they were in a cold case. Also, the chocolate churro that I picked out was a dulce de leche that was mistakenly put in with the chocolate ones. The churros also did not have the sugary outer coating that I love. I'm not sure why this churro and chocolate emporium isn't more highly rated because it was pretty darn spectacular. A note of caution about Spanish hot chocolate: it's thick. You're probably thinking thick like clam chowder, but no, I mean thick like flipping your mug over and waiting 15 seconds for it to ooze out. The chocolate is so dense that you can lay your spoon on top and it won't sink. Needless to say, this isn't the sipping variety Americans are used to. Also, the churros are not slathered in sugar and cinnamon. These are more like doughy vessels, doused in a sprinkle of fairy dust and meant exclusively to be dipped fondue style in the chocolate. After trying various chocolaterias, I felt Maestro's had the best consistency and flavor. It was just sweet enough without being obnoxious with a flavor that didn't get tiresome. We had churros dipped in thick chocolate and I thought it was good and reasonably priced, but I'll admit this was a first. It was harder than expected to find a place offering churros with thick chocolate to dip in, so we have not had a chance to compare yet. I'd just be curious to see if other places offer their churros and chocolate warm, ours were cold and from other reviews it looks like they should be warm. Stopped in on a whim. Just passing by and needed to rest our feet. We ordered the dulce de leche churro and the limon churro. Only cared for the dulce de leche. Don't get the limon! We had our breakfast here every morning during our stay at Madrid. I never had the combo of Churro and Hot chocolate befoe so I may have a low bar, but I really enjoyed the Churro here although some other reviewers pointed out that there were better ones in the city. Another piece of evidence was that there was always a long line in the morning so that you may need to wait at least 15 mins to get an order in. First of all, the location of this place was great. Right outside Puerta del Sol, it always had lots of business. It was very close to our hostel so that it was a convenient place to get breakfast. Second, the service was quick and straightforward. There were only a few items on the menu and you normally just get in to get the Churro and hot chocolate combo, easy and simple. I have tried both Churro and Parro with hot chocolate. Churro definitely wins. You probably should not have Churro and Hot chocolate every morning. But I can see myself eating these all the time when I visit Madrid. read more

We ate at 3 other churro places in Madrid, but this one was the best one by far. There is a lot of seating outdoors, but the seating indoors was limited. When we came in, there was a line that wasn't too long, but there were always a number of people waiting in line when we were eating. A lot of locals were eating here. We all really enjoyed the churros and the chocolate here. The chocolate wasn't too thick and wasn't too sweet. The churros weren't oily like at the other places we've tried. There were also churro sandwiches with seafood in them and churros with filling inside. I definitely would have tried the churro sandwiches, but maybe another time. Service is slow and could be good or mediocre. We had a male waiter that was friendly though the female waitress that assisted him was pretty cold. I got churros and hot chocolate. The chocolate wasn't too sweet which was nice for dipping the churro. It's thicker than normal hot chocolate but still pretty runny. I have been there twice and I think I understand the bipolar reviews. It depends on what you order. If you get any of the many churro offerings, you will feel like it is nothing special, and over priced. However, if you get the Cajun beignet with hot chocolate, this place is 5 stars! The beignet is a little pillow of sugary pastry perfection, and the hot chocolate is like drinking molten fudge. They are absolutely delicious. Forget the fat churros. read more
