Chocalat Grande with Churos and Cinamon.
    Glen F.

What a delightful experience! We stopped in for churros and chocolate on a Sunday afternoon. Our server was friendly, helpful, and efficient. She also checked back regularly to see how we were enjoying it. The chocolate is similar to a pudding. Very tasteful without being too sweet. (You can get sugar to sprinkle on the churros if you want.) One order was sufficient for us to share--we had the large mug of chocolate, so we used the spoons to finish it after we were done with the churros. Chocolat is a fun little place. We had the table by the front window so we could watch the good people of, visitors to, Madrid stroll by while we enjoyed our treat. It's a very homey environment, very welcoming, and a great place to spend a little time while exploring del Barrio de las Letras in Madrid.

The best I've had!!! Waited 3 weeks in Spain to finally get these and it was worth the wait! Perfection, hot, not oily, and super rich Chocolate! Excellent service and in English too!!! I walked up for a couple miles and the sweet girl gave me water seeing I was sweating profusely still. Well worth the trip. Interiors is cute and cozy. I'dstop here any time in town.

Vibes: quaint, neighborhood cafe serving breakfast and churros Tasting notes: - Churros: light and crunchy without feeling oily - Porra: thicker exterior with an airy, somewhat chewier crumb inside; excellent for picking up the chocolate - Chocolate: thick and rich but not too sweet - Café con leche: strong espresso flavor with a light creaminess; served near scaldingly hot Other thoughts: - fairly quiet with open tables on a weekday morning - fast, friendly service with staff versed in English - appreciated getting an extra porra due to a prolonged wait for our coffee - loved the option of a mix between churros and porra with the chocolate Impression: my top recommendation for churros in Madrid!

Great spot to stop by while visiting the east side of the city (El Retiro, Sofia Reina, etc). Delicious cappuccinos, churros/chocolate, orange juice, soft and gooey baked omelette. The coffee with condensed milk was too sweet-I would ask for the condensed milk on the side. Service was so nice and friendly! Recommended.

    The best place to come!

Great little spot for chocolate. Service was good. Busy but they had a downstairs with more tables. QR code for menu.

First time traveling to Madrid, it was in all the YouTube channels to try. I picked this place because it looked cute. I am not big chocolate person but willing to try it. The thinner churros was crispy and crunchy. It is .50 euro per piece. Chocolate sauce is about 3.40 euro. It was not sweet but way too much chocolate for me. It was good quality. The thicker churro is more oily but absorbed the chocolate more. I like the thicker one reminder me Chinese donut. I wish I have condense milk. Service was good. It is small place, not many tables.

Great small place to have churros and coffee. First time trying porras which is basically a larger churros with more of a fluffy inside.

Saw this place on YouTube with Mark Wiens and James from Madrid. This place was luckily just a few mins down from our hotel! It's a small place and super cute. Super affordable churros and chocolate. Service was also great. They had a big group of students when we were there, and they tried their best to accommodate everyone. Owner was also super friendly! As for the churros and chocolate, definitely delicious and I recommend trying while in Madrid. He made them fresh when we ordered! There shouldn't be any wait for the most part. Great place to try when you're in this part of town and great to support a small business!!

A nice place to have a sweet pastry after your late afternoon lunch in Madrid. Every region has their traditional sweet treat. Like Waffles and Chocolate in Brussels or Beignets in New Orleans or Elephant ears at a county fair in the US, the Churros and Porras from Chocolat Madrid gives you a pleasurable guilty, not-so-guilty supply of sweet indulgence. There was a continuous stream of people coming in to enjoy this place. We had the Churros with chocolate and I had a Bombom coffee. The chocolate dipping sauce was like a bery thick, rich cup of hot chocolate. Compared to Churros in the US, these were less sugar focused. There was no added sugar on the pastry and the chocolate offered a nice, but not too sweet addition. The Bombom coffee is a style that has a thick, sweetened condensed milk combined with espresso. It was all very delicious.

Porras and hot chocolate. So delicious!

Went here on a food tour and immediately knew I needed to go back. It is a perfect spot away from the crowded tourist churros or porras spots in Madrid. Come here for excellent porras and chocolate. I didn't have the churros, but I am sure they are excellent. The orange juice is excellent like so many places in Spain because it is fresh squeezed. I am ruined after spending a summer in Spain and came back to the US where you cannot get fresh squeezed orange juice anywhere!

Chocolat!! Spectacular, great Porras (churros) and inexpensive! Ask for Alfonso!

Best churros and chocolate in Madrid. Go to the popular place then go here for the real deal. Lovely side street and divine chocolate.

As I do anytime I see a window full of chocolates, I stopped to admire all the different choices, and then we were waved in by sweet, friendly Paul-Héctor! After chatting for a few minutes, he showed us the different types he had, which included some really unique choices like cava or almond and balsamic vinegar from Modena (the one I chose). He also has jars of different chocolate spreads-- I haven't tried mine yet but I'm sure it won't disappoint! Please make an effort to support this small shop, it was such a delight to find it today!

Fortunately for me, I'm attracted to bright lights, open store fronts, and men wearing funny hats. We wandered inside, noted the hot chocolate (1.50) sign, and walked away with a business card. Mental note made. I returned tonight searching for small gifts to bring to the US. I don't eat chocolate, but I appreciate craftsmanship, finely displayed chocolate, open kitchens, and high ROI (return on investment). Chocolala Belga achieves high marks across these categories. I hope my friends enjoy these delectable treats, big and small.

We (or maybe just me) loved it so much in…read moreMadrid, that one of the first things we (okay, I) did was scout out the closest Barcelona location and make sure that we paid it a visit amongst all the Gaudi and dining we had planned. What I really liked were the "collections" of different chocolates, arranged by "theme", and with 16 pieces to a box and at least 2 of each kind, so that you can savour each mouth-watering hit of deliciousness with someone else. This in itself is a bigger deal than it may seem, as I quickly realized that it's kind of lame when you say, "OMG can you BELIEVE how much like real truffle this tastes? Oh wait, I ate the only piece..." Wah wah. There are 8 collections in all (you can by the entire collection of 64 pieces if you want!), which include single bean origins; dried fruits and nuts; spices; flowers and herbs; liquers; fruit; truffles; and innovations. I've tried the single bean origins, fruit, and innovations collections, and am waiting to dig into a box of spices which made it with us back home. The single bean origins was fantastic, allowing us to compare and contrast the subtle notes, side by side, of chocolates from places like the Ivory Coast, Cameroon, Granada, or Ecuador. The fruits were far from the overly sweet and pungent cream or jelly filled renditions one might be more familiar with, but crafted delicately so that the fruit flavours were gently infused into the chocolate itself. The innovations collection was, surprisingly, more variable in deliciousness that I might have expected, but interesting to see how flavours of soya or black truffle might sit alongside chocolate, or even parmesan cheese and balsamic vinegar. What Cacao Sampaka has to offer extends far beyond just these collections, as there are a huge variety of not only other chocolates, but even wines to match. It really is a chocolate wonderland, and if it were not for the fact that our vacation had to come to an end, I would most certainly have been plunged into the depths of type 2 diabetes as my visits to Cacao Sampaka would have most certainly never ended.
