    Jamon Iberico sandwich €5.90

Our visit to Madrid may be short, but we loved the food and the culture One of our first stops was Chocolatería San Ginés famous for their churros and warm melted chocolate The churros are a touch savory rather than sweet or sugar covered and the chocolate has a hint of bitterness to go alongside its rich flavor Since I was in Spain, I, of course, ordered a sandwich of Jamon Iberico because pork is everywhere here and Iberico is the king of pork Chocolate con 6 churros €5,50 / mollete de Jamon Iberico €5,90 Chocolatería San Ginés (Madrid, Spain)

    Churros and chocolate!

Came at an off time- although it's open 24 hours a day so you just have to stop in when there isn't a line. Churros are light and not greasy and the chocolate isn't too sweet. It's thick and warm and creamy and almost like a pudding. Amazing.

Tourist rich area of town for chocolate and churros. Arrived in the late morning mid week and no line. Order at the register and then find a table. We ordered: 2 chocolate & churros 1 bacon & eggs breakfast 2 sandwiches Loved it all but the chocolate was too much for 4 people. Should order 1 chocolate and 4 orders of churros. Other breakfast items were excellent - especially the bacon and eggs.

I have been waiting to try authentic Spanish chocolate and churros for many years and San Gines was worth the wait. Please take my advice and get a minimum of 6 churro with your chocolate order.

This is the second location of Chocolateria San Gines. The original location in center of the city has long lines. If you are staying near this location and want to see what is the hype about, then go to this location. I ordered a plate of Churros. They come with chocolate syrup. They also gave me a Porras to try. Didn't like Porras. Churros was good and so was the chocolate syrup. Syrup is not sweet, so balances out the sugar in the churros, but couldn't balance out the oil. But, it's an extremely heavy dessert. One plate can be shared by at least 4 people, unless you have a super sweet tooth. Price is reasonable. I'm told this place sells the best churros in entire Spain. You should try them if you are a tourist, but don't go with high expectations! Unless you are a big churros fan, you'll be disappointed.

I traveled land and sea and the search is over! I can finally rest my hot chocolate soul because I have found the best hot chocolate that I have ever had! It was the perfect send to my day, as the temperature dropped and the layers came on. Great warm by the delicious cup of joy. Chocolate joy that is! Release the serotonin! Let's not forget the churros, I have literally been heart broken because we don't have this in the states. Madrid here I come.. again!

    Churros on the go!

Best churros ever. They are freshly prepared and served with the best hot chocolate sauce for dipping. The churros were nice and crispy on the outside and light and airy inside. I've had churros that have been too thick, dense and doughy but these were nice and light. Perfect to pair with the thick, rich, creamy hot chocolate sauce, which they don't skimp out on. You get 6 churro sticks and a full cup of hot chocolate with one order. Perfect for sharing-or not! You get your moneys worth with the size of the order and the quality of the food. You have an option to sit down and order with a waiter or order them to go at the window. The people are very friendly. Theres nothing more I can say to better describe these churros. Just go now! Churros are a great snack at anytime of the day so just go! Now! You wont regret going!

The best hot chocolate place in Madrid with the churros freshly prepared. The hot chocolate is amazing. A place to go during cold autumn/ winter days. We keep on going back.

    Bill for two

Mr. A's Famous 5 Point 5 Star Review Portion: 5 Stars (plenty of churros, I'm 6'3'' 210lbs and I was content after the six that were provided. Admittedly I don't have a sweet tooth) Atmosphere: 3 Stars (nothing special. Best to sit outside in the small alleyway) Service: 5 Stars (very fast. Waiter was nice) Food: 5 Stars (churros, latte, chocolate, and glass of milk were delicious) Value: 5 Stars (you get quite a bit of chocolate and church's for fairly little) Must go in Madrid. This is a typical breakfast and thus restaurant is the best at it. I'd probably go back if I was in Madrid again)

Five star for Warm and crispy and not too greasy. The joy chocolate is thick but with the right amount of sweetness. It is actually pretty filling but I'd say this is a must try if you are in Spain. Haven't found it in Toronto so far.

A pair of classics in their respective cities (2 of 2)…read more - - - - - I'm not surprised there are a lot of reviews. Then, I've had this bookmarked for an eternity based on the reviews of a Yelp friend (acquaintance) from the Yelp Talk chapter who did quite a bit of traveling. I had seen Chocolateria San Gines before but did not go in. I don't know why. This time, I did go in. They have two salons across the street from each other. I prefer the one on the east side of the street, which has the taller ceilings and more glass and mirrors. There will be a line around the side, but it will move quickly. I knew they had chocolate based on their name, but I didn't understand how they factored it into the equation. I sort of assumed that one could get chocolate churros. After all, there are now chocolate cannoli shells and, in some cases, cannoli can also have chocolate filling. The lady at the counter very quickly gave me an education. One gets the standard churros, but they come with a chocolate sauce that you dip them into. This all made for an interesting snack. This is not a place intended for a meal. The churro have a nice bland sort of crunchiness and the chocolate sauce is one heck of a counterpoint. The combination is great. I also had a hot drink. Upon asking, they immediately provided me with a small glass of cold water - seen at many adjacent tables - probably to counter the effects of the richness of this snack. Be it at the counter or at the table, the staff was very well mannered and helpful, which was commendable for how busy they were. The interior is very clean and has a lot of history on its wall. The pricing was to my liking, so coming to Chocolateria San Gines is a "no brainer." Everything is there and the intersection of its history and visitors from the world over take this one to 5 stars. A friend of mine who once lived in Madrid laughed upon learning it was on my list. I mentioned I had already been to Mallorquina, which is a few blocks away on Plaza del Sol. The story was that Mallorquina is where Madrid's version of chatty magpies might go to do the dessert and coffee thing with their friends in the afternoon. It closes in the evening. Instead, Chocolateria San Gines is open all the time and might be the last stop of the evening or night before Madrilenos turn in from a night on the town. It is also very easy to reach, only a few blocks from either the Sol or Opera Metro stations, from which you can also take in fascinating nearby Plaza Mayor.

As I do anytime I see a window full of chocolates, I stopped to admire all the different choices, and then we were waved in by sweet, friendly Paul-Héctor! After chatting for a few minutes, he showed us the different types he had, which included some really unique choices like cava or almond and balsamic vinegar from Modena (the one I chose). He also has jars of different chocolate spreads-- I haven't tried mine yet but I'm sure it won't disappoint! Please make an effort to support this small shop, it was such a delight to find it today!

Fortunately for me, I'm attracted to bright lights, open store fronts, and men wearing funny hats. We wandered inside, noted the hot chocolate (1.50) sign, and walked away with a business card. Mental note made. I returned tonight searching for small gifts to bring to the US. I don't eat chocolate, but I appreciate craftsmanship, finely displayed chocolate, open kitchens, and high ROI (return on investment). Chocolala Belga achieves high marks across these categories. I hope my friends enjoy these delectable treats, big and small.
