This is such a busy spot with the locals you have to come by and try it out. It's a bit intimidating for sure with everyone seeming to know what's going on as you stand a bit dazed looking around! First off, grab a number so they can call you to sit upstairs. It goes fairly quickly so don't be scared. The prices are right and it's a great place to soak in the atmosphere and energy of the locals. I basically didn't know what I was ordering and ended up with a grilled cheese ham sandwich. It was cheap and it was crispy and buttery! What else could you ask for? 5/5. Also had a cafe con leche (coffee with milk) and since I always ask for it decaf they always give me sugar! Must be a sign of wimpiness. Hubs had the coffee with a pastry and the difference is the creaminess of the chocolate. I think they're known for their neapolitan which is a pastry with chocolate different from a chocolate croissant. The chocolate croissant really looks like a croissant! He gave it a 4/5. Friend had the eggs and ham. Eggs were nicely done. Ham not over powering. 5/5. Again a fun spot to soak it all in. You should check it out!
Extremely popular place with good pastries, quick seating and responsive service. It was less than a 15 minute wait, which worked well coming off of an overnight flight. The Nopalitama con queso con queso y jamon (cheese and ham) hit the spot of layered dough, cheese and ham. The egg white filling in the mil feuille was too sweet for both my wife and I. Together we finished two thirds of it. My wife enjoyed her open sandwich (infusion ciasica) of avocado, boiled egg, and salmon on a slice of toasted bread. Coffee and espresso were average, only some flavor came through.
La Mallorquina is a nice place to stop by in Madrid if you are looking for pastries. We tried the croissants and cookies and they were pretty okay, nothing extraordinary but still enjoyable. The interior is tiny and the displays are very aesthetic which makes everything look appealing. They have a digital number system that corresponds to your ticket, but despite everyone grabbing tickets, the staff ended up helping whoever could reach the counter first. It felt very disorganized and it is normal to bump into people while trying to point at what you want. Overall, it is worth visiting for the experience and the presentation, but be ready for a crowded and chaotic ordering process.

Inside, the warmly lit to-go bakery displays with wooden trim run along each wall, while a narrow counter is available in the far back for a quick dine-in meal. Bright lights shine down from the soaring ceilings onto the whitewashed walls and checkered floors. Patrons are shoulder to shoulder; muscle your way to the end of the queue, and count on the staff to efficiently churn through the line. If you think that an evening visit will save you some time, guess again; the pre-game crowd was strong at this bakery. For a less hectic experience, grab a ticket from the red overhead dispenser at the Calle Mayor entrance to secure a table upstairs. My mom and I stopped in La Mallorquina a few times. We were most impressed by the Trufa Grande, a tennis ball-sized bonbon loaded with an uber-rich yet light-as-air mousse and coated with mildly crunchy jimmies. Also stellar was the mocha-y Postre de Tiramisu, despite being more cream than cake. My mom, meanwhile, loved her dense, Basque-style Postre de Queso (cheesecake). Across La Mallorquina's puff desserts, I found the pastry to be soggy rather than flaky; such was the case for the Milhoja (which otherwise sported a brick of sweet, fluffy meringue), the signature Napolitana de Chocolate (which was piped with a gritty but flavorful chocolate filling), and the Postre de Limon (which feature a similarly pleasant meringue and a tart, curd-like filling). The seasonal Torrija (a Spanish version of French toast, utilizing day-old bread drenched in sugar, milk, and egg) was remarkably custardy, but the sweet flavor, cold temperature, and mushy texture all felt one-dimensional. Lastly, the biggest "dud" of the lot was the Ponche de Selva Negra; this Spanish black forest cake eschewed any cherry influences (which I didn't mind!) in favor of dense yet flavorless vanilla-and-chocolate ganache; however, the cake and frosting together felt dry. The pastries are all affordable, typically 2-4 euros each. The staff are friendly and patient, even with guests who speak limited Spanish. At their best, La Mallorquina's pasteles as worthy of a second (and third and fourth) visit; at their worst, they are an inexpensive upgrade over the nearby Carrefour Express.
This place was chaotic with not much instruction. There was a crowd by the counter with line out the door for to go orders with beautiful cakes, tarts, pre boxed sweets from what I can see. I think customers have to take a number in the center of the tiny place, past the beginning of the line. The opposite end was another exit with a counter containing a very limited selection of pintxos and pastries with an espresso machine. We ordered directly from the barista and paid here, standing to eat and drink. There's also an upstairs that you'd have to wait to be seated for table service according to the sign but no host was there the entire time we stood and ate next to the sign. Maybe I misunderstood and you'd have to go upstairs to ask for a table? We'll never know now. The one napolitana we got wasn't even that good, but with how famous this place is, might give it another chance next time I'm in town.
Dine in or take out dessert place that has plenty of sweet and savory treats. On our second visit we dined in for a pre-dinner dessert. it was worth it. Oscar H, received and served us, and he was awesome. I went back downstairs to ask about a particular cake, and Oscar totally gave that one - the torta de yema (egg yolk cake) - the thumbs up. I said send it up... it was amazing. Not too sweet, and just the right amount of consistency of cake, filling, and glaze topping. I balanced that with a cappuccino. In the evening, around after 7pm, the crowds in the store had died down, and we were easily able to get a seat, actually make it to the counters, and pretty much just hang out and enjoy the tastes that the bakers of Mallorquina put together. Solid evening visit.
Very nice pastry shop. This is the first location, opened in Puerta del Sol in 1894. It's crowded but service is fast. They don't seem to run out of pastries, they kept putting more out. The local people were really nice. Several women let me go ahead, I took it as a welcome. The napolitana de crema is really good, and the chocolate one had big chunks of chocolate. The Torrija had a lot of cinnamon if you like that. The pink paper they pack it in is pretty. It's very popular with locals and tourists. I went by their location in Salamanca and that seemed fancier and quieter but also busy.
Our family absolutely loved this wonderful pastry shop during our recent trip to Madrid -- it's a great spot for everything from breakfast and brunch to desserts during the evening paseo. We stopped in most mornings to enjoy delicious Napoleons with Cream and Chocolate Pepitos, along with cups of their excellent coffee. You can eat at the counter, order pastries to go ('para llevar') or dine in their upstairs cafe (where service can be a bit slow). Mornings can be a little busy, especially at the to-go counter, but bring your patience and you'll be rewarded with some of the best pastries in Madrid.
What a madhouse. This place was jammed on a Wednesday evening. And for good reason. We had to join the crowd and see what the commotion was about. The display cases were crammed with so many great looking pastries and candies it was hard to choose one thing. We ordered the Spanish version of French toast - for take-away. When we did eat the pastry it was delicious. We would like to swing by again on our way back home in a few weeks.
This place is always packed, I decided I needed a coffee and one of the sweet treats I could see through the window. They have three counters when you walk in, two are for to-go orders with all of the cookie, pastry, cake and chocolate items you can think of. The third counter/ standing bar area is has a great variety of desserts (pastries & cake slices) displayed on small plates behind glass, there are lots of options to choose from and a counter space for you to stand and eat your pastry with an espresso or cafe con leche. Everything looked amazing, it's the perfect break when you're walking around this area. This place is located in the plaza del Sol area. They do have an upstairs seating area, but I didn't want to waste my day sitting for a coffee break. I did notice in Madrid nobody walks around with their coffee drinks (or any drink really) everyone stops at a cafe or tapas bar for a break. Service is fast, you find an open spot at the bar & order, your items are placed in front of you immediately, there's no wait and when you're ready to go you pay the same employee (is she a barista??) and head back out to your next destination. It is confusing when you walk in because it's packed and everyone seems to know how it works but you. If you want to sit upstairs, grab a number off the wall mounted machine and wait by the stairs to be taken upstairs.
Do yourself a favor and stop here for torrija. I would recommend taking it to go or seeing if you can snag a spot upstairs. This place gets busy and packed and was hectic when we stopped in. The torrija was one of, if not the best one we had while in Madrid. The service was quick and friendly at the to go counter for me. read more

La Mallorquina came as a recommendation from our hotel when I asked for a local bakery with coffee. I'd had a long list of places I wanted to try but always like to ask as well. We happened upon it and I was so pleasantly surprised. I think we went three times during our time in Madrid. I loved the counter experience, I'd definitely recommend that option. I wasn't looking to sit down and do all of that upstairs so my review is solely based on counters on the first floor. The locals love this spot and that is quite obvious. I was told in advance that they do and coming here was very enjoyable. The pastries and coffee are very yummy, you won't be disappointed. Makes for the perfect spot if you really want to get your day started but want to grab a quick bite before doing so. read more
A pastry lovers delight. I was pretty sure I wanted to get only their famous chocolate napolitana and it did not disappoint.. decadent chocolate cake (ish) inside a buttery airy puff pastry. Heaven in a bite. Not too sweet and perfect for some one like me who doesnot have a sweet tooth. They have huge lines but they move pretty fast. So dont give up. Also there is no chance of them being sold out since they keep bringing out freshly baked goods. Good place to even bring back baked gifts for friends and family. Centrally located at Puerta del Sol. Highly recommend this spot. read more

This bakery is located at Sol area near the Metro Station. It is always packed with people so it's hard to make selection. I got chocolate and apple napolitano. Both are really good, soft and just melted in your mouth. read more

If you're in Madrid, you can't miss this place. The pastries here are SO GOOD. We literally came three days in a row because there was so much we wanted to try. It does get packed and becomes like a war zone during peak hours & on weekends so try to avoid going during those times. If you're dining in, grab a number from the number machine mounted to the wall (close to the staircase) and they'll call out the numbers so you can go upstairs to the dine in area. If you're doing takeout, you'll order downstairs along both sides. The same person you order with will ring you up typically. Some of my favorites: 1. the raspberry tart - it was perfectly tart & sweet, with a crust that was still pretty moist and soft 2. The cream puff pastry (I wish I knew its name) but the cream filling is so light & had hints of zest. 3. Their strawberry cake is also delicious You can not go wrong here. Enjoy! read more
La Mallorquina has been around since 1894 and offers various cream cakes (such as tarta de fresas, tarta de queso, tarta de limon, etc.), sweets (bombones), and other traditional Madrid confections (bandeja de saladitos, aguja de ternera, etc.). I had received a box of their cookies, which were buttery and shortbread-like, covered and topped with various flavors (chocolate, lemon, etc.), as well as some of their famous truffles. The cookies weren't too sweet, and would be a great accompaniment to a favorite coffee or tea. DELISH. I thought I was in heaven. I'm not exaggerating when I say I wanted EVERYTHING. Hands down best pastries I've had during my whole trip in Barcelona + Madrid. The place was super duper cute AND staff were all so friendly and efficient. I literally devoured my pastry in minutes because it was so dang delicious. 100% will go back when I go back to Madrid. I bought a few packaged sweets for home as souvenirs and everybody loved them! read more
Our first stop in Madrid and this place is packed! I was so confused how to order especially since I didn't understand anything. I took 4 years of Spanish in high school but that was so long ago and everyone speaks too fast for me here lol. I need it muy lento to understand haha. From reading other reviews, I found out there's an upstairs space to sit and order. I was expecting all the baked goods to be on the menu but the menu only had some brunch items like ham/cheese/chocolate sandwiches, croissants, cakes, basic stuff. Not all the fancy baked goods I saw downstairs. We were seated pretty quick but it's a bit chaotic upstairs too, albeit a little more organized than downstairs. I wish I understood or knew more of what was going on to order downstairs, because there's a standing bar to drink your coffee and eat your pastries. Plus way more option to choose from. In terms of taste, we thought the ham and cheese croissant and sandwich were okay. Chocolate croissant and coffee were both good. I love how cheap and strong an espresso is in Spain! This place is kinda small and so crowded, but they get through the line pretty quick. I saw people paying with both card and cash up and downstairs so no issues there. At the time we went, they were doing construction outside and it was so loud with the drills. I imagine it would've been a better experience had it not been so loud because it looks so cute enjoying coffee and pastries upstairs by the window. read more
Excellent! Pastries, came at 8:30 right before close. Took some things to go, things still looked really fresh. I asked the staff who was serving me and she recommended the bun filled with cream. I was just so light and fluffy and the cream was just so good. Took some other things to go. Definitely recommend stopping by this institution read more
Before heading out into the city one last time, my friend took me to a very famous bakery in the city, standing for more than a hundred years, doing things the same way. This was no ordinary breakfast for me, as I ate strawberry cake and a croissant right where I ordered it from. I was so surprised and happy by how delicious everything was. What's more, is they basically had these small trash cans to toss down your napkins and such. It was an easy process and definitely recommend everyone who hasn't been there to try it one morning. We went to La Mallorquina for a late breakfast. Place was busy with tourists and locals and it wasn't clear that the cafe was upstairs while the bakery was downstairs, since we didn't speak Spanish, but one of the customers helped us figure it out. Pretty extensive brunch menu, specialty coffees and pastries. Menu was in English and Spanish so that was helpful. Got an omelette and what turned out to be toast with a hole in it and a sunny side up egg peeking out from under it. Was pretty funny. Definitely recommend it given the cafe vibe, authentic flavors and prime location in Puerto del Sol. read more
It was recommended by our host (walking tour). I ordered a pastry that has cream inside. The cream or custard was good and it is too sweet, the outside is flaky. I went back Twice. They have people taking your orders. The wait is not that long. read more

Right next to Puerta del Sol, we passed by this establishment a couple times before actually going in for an evening snack and to give our feet some rest. We witnessed long lines and lots of people activity on the ground floor and as non-spanish speakers, weren't sure how the ordering process worked but the hustle bustle and the standing bar added to the charm of this place. Staff was tré busy. As we were considering leaving, to our luck discovered that there was a whole level upstairs with plenty of seating and a short wait for a table. We were seated by the window overlooking the Plaza and were kindly given an English menu! Things were beginning to look positive. We got a few pastries, the famous napolitana con crema, a cream puff and cappuccinos and enjoyed the little break. We don't enjoy cream based pastries very much but this one was super light, fresh and cloud like and the bread itself was fluffy and not too sweet. This was our favorite of the two. Prices are fair at 2-3€ a pastry and service upstairs was fast and friendly! read more

Located in the center of puerta del sol and heart of Madrid, this is one of the oldest pastry shops in Madrid (since 1894). The place often has a long line but it moves super quick, probably took us 5 minutes to get our order - we ordered the local snack napolitana. You can get a few flavors - custard, vanilla, chocolate. We got the vanilla one and it was pretty good soft and sweet. My favorite from here though was the huge whipped cream puffs - not sure the name but it's so squishy because the bread is so fluffy and the cream is light, the texture is amazing and I would 100% order this again. Price is super affordable here, like 2 EUR for the pastries - love that even though this place is so famous and tourists often visit, they're not hiking up the price and still keeping it fair! read more

La Mallorquina is on so many lists as a great patisserie in Madrid and there is 100% a reason why! I got their chocolate napolitana, ham and cheese croissant, palmier, and salmon pastry and they were all GREAT. The chocolate napolitana is a must try since it's one of their most popular. The salmon pastry is warm so is nice if it's a little chilly out. The ham and cheese is pretty basic but the croissant is a little sugared so it's a nice salty/sweet combination. The palmier (chocolate dipped) is HUGE and was so flaky too. Honestly I don't think you can go wrong with anything here. We came back multiple days because it's so fast and easy and yummy. OMG, this pastry shop is the best. I learned about it from one of Rick Steve' audio books and I was not disappointed. Everything I had was wonderful.... But I loved their Napolitana de Crema. One of their best selling items. I tried their chocolate one, it was good, but nothing like the cream one. I also had some of their savory Napolitanas and they were amazing...Tuna ...Ham and cheese.
