2nd time there.... First time about 2yrs ago with out of town friends. Breakfast was just so-so. I decided to give Mae's a 2nd chance and went for a late breakfast/brunch yesterday (Sunday) . Walked in and was left to stand there, no acknowledgment...finally after approx. 4-5mins was told I could sit anywhere. by an older, flustered waitress. The place wasn't THAT busy. I ordered a Mae-Mosa (based on my check I think I was charged about $13-15?) which came in a beer pint glass...not at all a common way to serve a mimosa nor was it good.. By the way, there are no prices on the table card with the list of drinks...which were beer, wine or mimosas. I ordered waffles ($9.50) and a side of bacon ($4) "crisp" please. The consistency of the cold waffles was that of a wet sponge. Mushy. On the plate was a cute, but empty porcelain cow that was supposed to house maple syrup I assumed. I waited and waited to get the waitresses attention but to no avail so I got up, went over to where you pay and when I advised her I did not receive any maple syrup she never made eye contact with me...no apology and was quite busy counting her checks. I asked should I leave this lil' cow with you ? Again without looking up, said yes. While I waited for maple syrup which finally came but was given little plastic take out container filled and dropped off in a hurry...I thought the syrup tasted more like "pancake syrup" than Vermont's #1 pride and joy commodity. The "crispy bacon"? was far from crispy...1/2 of each of the 3 pieces was fat...and greasy as hell. I pulled apart what was edible and left a plate with lots of gristle . I truly should have sent all of it back but I was too hungry I guess and ate as much of what came out of the kitchen and was anxious to leave. Sooo my $25.50 Sunday brunch...with tax was extremely disappointing. I always appreciate when the server brings up any issues they may be having. The day we stopped in for brunch, the restaurant was down to one cook, and she informed us once we were seated that it would be maybe a 40-minute wait for our food. Not a problem! There was a card game our family tried to figure out while we waited. When the food arrived, everything was tasty and hot! Despite it not being a Mexican restaurant, there was an option for a burrito, and I ordered one with spinach, mushrooms, cheddar and sausage, and it was surprisingly grilled and delicious, with a nice crunch to the flour tortilla. With a side of salsa and sour cream, it was quite nice! The decor was marked by fluourescent lighting and high ceilings, which quickly faded into the background with our tasty brunch. read more

Seems they struggle with serving people quickly, even when tables are not all full. When we came up, we saw another patron who stormed off after waiting to get service of any kind. They said that someone first stopped by their table 20 min ago and said food wait was 45 min. but then disappeared. When they came back a second time they told this customer they had never noticed them before so they were not even in the queue to be served yet. We asked inside and were told 55 min to get food. We came for breakfast before a day of hiking while on vacation. Breakfast was phenomenal. The corned beef hash was the best we've had whether in Philly, NY or anywhere else. Do not come here. Horribly rude staff and cafeteria quality food. Our waitress was a horrible, rude, sarcastic, condescending bitch and she made us feel like we were being a burden just for being there. It was a Sunday, St. Patrick's day actually, but my family isn't big on it. We just happened to be traveling through and needed a place to stop and eat. This was the only place around that was open and affordable. There was 8 of us, but we travelled in two separate cars, so the first group of 4 of us walked in. The place was empty except for a couple people at the bar and another family sitting down. The only waitress in the place told us to sit wherever we wanted. I told her there was actually 8 of us, four more were coming, and she said to push together the two tables in the back. The two tables in the back only would have fit four people. So instead we pushed together two other tables nearby. Again, the place was empty and we chose tables near the side so we were out of the way. She comes back literally yells at us. "No, not those tables! I said the two tables in the back!" she grabbed a table and whipped it so hard that the salt and pepper and sugar fell off onto the floor. She walked away and didn't even help us pick it up. So we decided to just all split up and take up 3 separate tables because the way she told us to sit we would not all fit. She comes back, with a completely different demeanor, pretending to be sweet and takes our order, there were four people in the group who all ordered corned beef dinner. It was supposed to come with a side of corn bread. She brings the food later, and my aunt is the only one that ordered corned beef who did not get corn bread. So when the waitress comes to check on us, my aunt mentions this, and she also asks for a bottle of mustard. The waitress seems extremely upset that my aunt would ever even ask such a question. She says that she's pretty sure that they are completely out of corn bread, in such a tone that she expects my aunt to know this. She comes back with literal pan scrapings and says "this is all we have". She doesn't bring any mustard so my aunt politely reminds her and asks again. The waitress actually sighed and said "oh my god, okay" and when she came back with it she slammed it onto the table and meanly said "anything else??" As if we were scum on the earth for asking for anything at all. Then she didn't come back to check on us until we had all finished and were ready for the bill. She pretended to be nice once again, maybe because she caught on to her own attitude and tried to save it. But too late. I won't be going back there and if I do, it will be to treat her exactly the same as she treated my family. Seriously the worst service I've ever received. She needs to find a new job. Maybe in a place working without people where she can fully blossom and be the raging bitch she is. read more

I've had the breakfast burrito, the sausage gravy and biscuits, the classic American breakfast, and more--it just gets better every time. Mae's Place provides the ideal breakfast. Everything is homemade, and it sure tastes that way! The biscuits are perfect, the pancakes are fluffy, and the eggs are always done exactly how you want them. It's not sheri's anymore, that's for sure :-( This was our first time here since it changed over from sheri's diner, and it was a big disappointment. Service was ok, but while there seemed to be 4 people in MAES PLACE shirts walking around, our waitress was the only one doing anything, everyone else was either talking to other customers or meandering about, leaving the only waitress scrambling to handle the 3 other tables. But, it wasn't busy. She just seemed rushed and unsteady. We watched our food die in the window for about 5 min while the waitress cashed out another customer who had an issue with his card, yet in spite of the fact that Mae herself (I think, she was definitely in charge) was standing 3 feet from the window where the "foods ready" bell went off, she did not bring our plates over. I had sausage and biscuits, the wife had eggs Benedict. My sausage and biscuits was ok, but just ok. My eggs were inedible. I ordered them over easy, and they were dangerously runny. Like, jelly consistency, under cooked runny. I skipped them. Wife's eggs Benny was mediocre at best, but not bad. Very meager portions compared to sheris portions, usually with sausage and biscuits you get two biscuits covered in a heaping helping of gravy. This was one biscuit cut in half. I told the waitress about the issue and she took a dollar off the bill which was nice, but I wasn't looking for a discount. The nail in the coffin was our checkout procedure, where we were treated to a loud conversation between our waitress running our card and another customer about a man named Jack who had just recently had a funeral. Jack had a funeral because, as they were discussing, Jack had been diagnosed with cancer and "blew his brains out". He was apparently "one doctor short of the the death with dignity act" and had ended his life, and according to the waitress, yelling this literally across the restaurant, "Jack had called the cops and told them to come clean up the mess", and the waitress loudly stated that she "would never have the balls to do that" which confused me because she was a lady. Nice story for a breakfast crowd. We will never, ever, come here again. read more
