The food and drink were delicious and the space was so cozy, especially on a rainy day. The portions were quite small and the service is slow...

Adorable brunch place right next to our airbnb. We went right at 11am and didn't have to wait. They have a great selection of food for breakfast and lots of coffee as well as alcoholic drinks.

A beautiful cafe right by the Dorchester Parking. Loved the aesthetic decor of the cafe. We were lucky to get a spot the moment we walked in because I expect this establishment to be well occupied on a Saturday morning. The staff are very friendly, and were kind enough to communicate with us in English without any hesitation. We really enjoyed the Pan Cakes and the Shakshuka. Since we were in a rush to explore city my only regret is to have so little time to chill here. I highly recommend and would definitely return.

***** I'm so happy to have chosen the Saint-Roch district for my stay in Quebec - everything is close, within walking distance. The airport and Île d'Orléans are only 15 minutes away by car and the rest of the region is within walking distance. A few minutes from me is Maelstrøm Saint-Roch, a cafe with cocktails and the most delicious food. I know - all the food I've eaten in Quebec is delicious but it's true. I walked in and was pleasantly greeted and seated at a table inside - they have a wonderful outdoor seating area as well. I ordered a Tomato, which was their refreshing take on a Bloody Cesar: mix of a bloody house caesar, spices of a bloody coffee, lime bourbon. I don't usually like bourbon but I sucked it down like a thirsty man in the desert. Fantastic. Lime was a good idea. For my breakfast, I ordered the flammekueche, a wonderful version of the Alsatian classic. The poached egg on it was perfect - I wanted to cry, it was so perfect, not even a joke. All of that in itself would have been a perfectly satisfying breakfast, but the shakshuka also caught my eye, so I ordered the shakshuka - with sardines, a first for me but not a last. The sardines went perfectly with the shakshuka - wow! Now that I was well drunk I decided to leave before I could embarrass myself even more and by the time I was about to pay - I saw some lovely pain au chocolat and well - I had one to take , bagless...and I went happily through the day with a mouthful of buttery, flaky pastry and a perfect amount of hot, melted chocolate...if you're in Quebec, the Maelstrøm Saint-Roch is a must visit and be careful because like a real maelstrom, you'll be sucked in by the warm service, great food, wonderful cocktails and fantastic ambience of this popular spot.

I found there a very warm welcome, cozy atmosphere and peace for my soul. It feel like an hostel for all types of minds. The food is awesome and very adorable for the high quality. I'll definitely make it a second home or spot to work.

small latte - YUM!

My partner and I took a trip to Quebec City recently and, as always, were on the hunt for the perfect coffee shop to try some delicious, high quality espresso while sitting in a cozy, warm ambiance. WE FOUND IT! Maelstrom Saint-Roch was perfect - Brick walls, wood tables, a mix of industrial with modern touches - the perfect place to get settled in for a good conversation, good book, and some damn good coffee/espresso. We've spent a lot of time and money in coffeeshops over the years and we always order an espresso, a latte and a hot coffee or cold brew. These give us a good idea of the quality a place has to offer - Maelstrom did not disappoint. The espresso was one of the best we've had in a long while - perfectly pulled, enjoyable to drink. Delicious. My latte was also expertly made with steamed milk fit for beautiful latte art. All served in ceramic mugs with saucers. They do offer free wifi which is great if you need to study or work here, but there were also people just chatting over a morning cup of coffee or reading the newspaper. They also have a cocktail bar that I believe gets going later in the day - we would have LOVED to come back to try some coffee cocktails, but we were short on time. Overall, Maelstrom deserve every good review they get - the staff was friendly, the product is very high quality and the atmosphere is well worth going out of your way for. If you're visiting from out of town and care about coffee - you need to stop by! If you're local and have easy access to this incredible coffee paradise - what are you waiting for?!

Great coffee shop with several eatery options. First the coffee itself is perfect. Food it also good for the breakfast - they have omlet, poached eggs with salmon, French toast etc. Everything we ordered were fresh and tasty. The only problem is that not all the menu is available everyday, on Saturday it was there, but on Wednesday they had only croissants. Waiter were very nice and friendly, she also takes barista duties.

Nice atmosphere in the bar

Excellent cocktails, great vibe, friendly staff. Pascal made a well-done rum old fashioned and I had a delicious non-alcoholic herbal.

That means, no basic ingredients like citrus are used. That's basically telling the bartender they cannot make 99% of cocktails in mind and have to take risks to make something tasty happen. That concept in itself is a recipe to create things that will be genuinely and authentically Canadian. In other words, experimentation at its finest. Opened in 2024 by the team behind Quebec City's only 2 Michelin starred restaurant, Taniere, this is now the spot to be for those in the know. So, how is trial and error going of crafting something genuinely Canadian? Cocktails are superb on both taste and presentation. The food is remarkably plated with extremely high quality ingredients. Everything tastes excellent. If that's not enough, the entire interior looks like a very private club and the team of servers and bartenders is superb and welcoming.

I also hadn't had a charcuterie board this trip yet, so splurged on one here. It came with three types of cheese, three types of meats, two types of pickled onions, traditional cucumber pickles, pumpkin seeds, cranberries, an onion puree, a mustard puree, and bread. First off, I appreciated they actually provided the appropriate bread-to-other ratio. I feel like normally you run out of bread while eating a board but I actually had bread leftover with this meal! The cheese and meat were good of course, but I want to make a special call out to the onion puree, which was like condensed French onion soup, and the cucumber pickles, which were some of the best pickles I've had because they tasted so fresh, like they had just been brined. All of this on a deck looking out towards the river. Stop by here after late afternoon cruise with Croisieres ML across the road to continue enjoying the river view! Logistics: - indoor and outdoor seating - limited street parking nearby - several complex mocktail options available. I wanted to try one so bad but I was too full for more!

One lady in lower town took special delight in telling me "sorry, we're all full tonight", while I stood there with numb fingers and a raw red face where hail hit my face moments before. I passed Alphonse many times the last few days but tonight, instead of just passing through, i stopped in to look inside as another customer held open the door waiting for me to enter as he exited. So naturally, I went in. I was afraid they were about to close, but the hostess was welcoming and with a warm smile, showed us to our seats. The food was so good! We ordered the French Onion soup. My kids loved that the bread in the soup was still crunchy and not soggy. The baked Brie was a delicious start of what is to come next. My entree was the low temperature salmon. It was the chef's special (they call it inspiration of the chef). It was a salmon dish that is lukewarm. The salmon was so tender, it melted like butter in my mouth. It was a decent portion too. We got dessert to share- crème brûlée- also good! Ambience is smart casual.

We decided on Alphonse because it was basically only one of a few restaurants that were still open. We sat outside on a balmy September night and watched the people go by. Melanie was our server and at first she seemed a little off-putting but she was awesome. Friendly and wasn't put off by the dad jokes the men in our party made. We got a range of dishes from pasta to nachos. I got the ham croquettes and they were delicious. The prices were reasonable, the service great and the setting was delightful.

Words cannot describe the warmth and comfort of visiting this restaurant on a cold winter day,…read morecuddled up next to their fireplace drinking some of the best hot chocolate you've ever had. Nothing will come close to comparing! We heard good things about the hot chocolate here and wanted to check it out for ourselves after being out in the cold all day. We chose the spiced hot chocolate, as recommended by our server. It was absolutely delicious-- rich, flavorful, creamy, and everything that a hot chocolate should be. Although the price was a bit steep, we had enough for 4 small cups and it came with two scones and whipped cream on the side. We also got two "biscuits", which we thought were going to literal biscuits, but ended up being small pastries which were both tasty! We were lucky enough to snag the seats right next to the fireplace which ended up being the perfect way to spend an hour hanging out. We ended up coming back for a light dinner the same day and also really enjoyed our time. There was a live pianist performing which really elevated the dining experience. We started things off with some oysters, which honestly were some of the best I've had in a very long time. The dipping sauce was a bit strange and untraditional for me, but it was perfect with just a bit of lemon juice. We also got a burger to share, and when they accidentally brought out a side salad instead of the fries we requested, they let us keep the salad and brought a huge entire order of truffle fries for us (!!!) Canadians really have some of the best fries too because these were perfectly crispy and honestly didn't even need dipping sauce. The burger also didn't disappoint and was savory goodness. I wish we tried this place sooner! Would highly recommend, even if you're not staying at the hotel itself.
