Had a Groupon special ($10 for $20) and I really love Mac & Cheese so this seemed like a great deal. Was hoping maybe to find a great place in DE that would be something that could be special. Turns out it was Matalidia's that was split. Odd but ok. Got there and no host or anything, eventually we saw the sign to sit ourselves. Staff was friendly enough though, just two of them. We had the Walkabout Chicken Rolls first. They were ok but presentation looks like it was just thrown on the plate. Was meh, but tolerable. I got the sampler, which oddly enough you can't pick which 3 dishes you want, was the Seafood (Think the Lobster), Ruben and Buffalo Chicken. The Lobster was ok, but nothing special. Ruben was horrible, basically it is corn beef chunks and sauerkraut, Buffalo Chicken was alright. Problem is everything was way under seasoned. Which Mac & Cheese you want to have a nice salted flavor and I doubt anything was tasted before to make sure it was good. I was underwhelmed and disappointed but didn't spend much on it. Hence the 2 star review, otherwise I would give it 1 star. I do think there is a possibility to make a great Mac & Cheese place but really need to get someone in the kitchen that knows how to season and make each dish different other than just the additional meats. It is bad when Velveta is better but not sure if they were just understaffed either. Has good happy hour specials but the service was a turn off. We sat in the bar area and our waitress stopped by twice. 1. to drop off only 1 round of drinks 2. to drop off check My friends and I sat there waiting for her to come back so we could get more drinks but we gave up and we tracked her down 30 minutes later for the check. I had never had Mad Macs before but I was recommended to try them. I order the tequila lime chicken nachos to go through the hostess that was working, she repeated my order back to me and told me it would be about 30 minutes. I show up 30 minutes later pay for my food and go home. Unfortunately, the hostess didn't enter my order correctly and I did not receive what I had called and order. When I called back and spoke to a manager, she was very friendly and apologetic for the misunderstanding and inconvenience and offered and refund. But since I paid with cash a refund wasn't possible so instead she offered to send me a gift card (which I received). To be honest the food that I did receive was pretty good and I would be back to Mad Macs. I appreciated how they handled the situation and I can't wait to actually try the tequila lime chicken nachos. read more

Been here a few times now and each time I'm left a little disappointed. It seems that they are frequently understaffed leaving the customers with long waits. Also, the lighting in the dining room is simply terrible. I had to ask the wait staff to turn up the lights just to read the menu ( and there's nothing wrong with my vision). One other thing I didn't appreciate was the loud/large group of poker players that were in the dining room. This seems like an activity for the bar, not a dining room. That said, the food was good and the mac n cheese portions are huge - took enough for another meal home. They have also recently stopped allowing smoking outside the front door - great move. I purchased a Living Social deal for Mad Mac's in December 2011 and finally used it on Mother's day 2012. I wish I would have used it sooner, because although Mad mac's is quite a distance from where i live, it is my absolute new favorite restaurant. I must have told at least 10 people about my delicious meal which started out with the Crab pretzel, which was to die for. My husband order a cheeseburger and fries and said that both were delicious. I ordered the Snooki Mac & Cheese and will be ordering it again once I get back there. For dessert, we ordered the Lamingtons. At first glance, the cake looks like your typical "diner cake" and I expected it to taste somewhat stale- like diner cake. It was the most delicious cake I have ever eaten! Tried this place for the first time a couple of weeks ago. I had the Aussie burger. The wife had the Walkabout Chicken Rolls. It was awesome. We also shared some of the best onion rings we've had and was happy that they had Sam Adams Seasonal as one of the beer selections. The food was so good I was thinking about it the whole week and we went back the very next weekend. Now the opportunities for improvement. The first time we went I ordered my burger medium and it was perfect. The second time it was a bit overlooked so a little disappointing. Also, both times when we first arrived the folks at the hostess station weren't the friendliest (but they weren't rude either) and once we were sat the waitstaff were friendly. Our waitress on our first trip gave great service while our waiter on our second trip could probably use some more training as his inexperience showed but he was very nice. read more

Mad Mac's used to be great. It was walking distance from my home, had decent food, and was a great place to stop in when you wanted to avoid the college crowd. My friends and I liked to go to their trivia night on Thursdays for the last couple of years. We weren't visiting for trivia every week, but went about once a month. The trivia there is your standard bar trivia. Over time, we began to feel that scores were a bit skewed towards some of the frequent customers. This evening, we played, and when the final scores were announced, our team was not even mentioned (although we were in the lead or close to it the entire night). When we questioned the trivia MC, he looked through the score sheets and apparently ours was stuck to another one. When our score was calculated, we had actually won, but the gift certificates had already been handed out. A round was offered, but we declined. Sadly, this is the last straw for this place for me if that's the way they choose to do business. We went to Mad Macs last night on a recommendation from friends that they had fabulous lobster mac & cheese. Unfortunately, we acted on this recommendation and ordered it. The servers all have their tits out and flirt with all the older men to get better tips. Everyone working only cares about the bar and neglects their tables. It is hampered, however, by a handful of significant faults. Chief among these is the rampant misnomer-ing of several dishes; for instance the "Lobster" M&C is actually comprised of Langoustine and / or Crawfish, and the "Chocolate Mousse Cake" was actually chocolate cream pie. We wanted to meet our friends in Delaware for dinner, and were looking for a place that was around halfway for both of us, and after checking out the menu here we quickly decided this would be the place! When you walk in there is an open space which I assume is for waiting and immediately to your left is a large room with booths of different sizes and some tables, and at the end of the open room is the bar. The ladies bathroom was really clean, which was a plus for me. We went on a Thursday evening around 6pm and sat down right away (it's seat yourself). As soon as we sat down someone came over with menus, and shortly after that our server came over to take our drink order. My husband ordered the sweet tea drink, and I ordered the peach mojito. My husband really liked his drink, but I liked mine much better! We ordered loaded potato balls - mashed redskin potatoes, scallions, bacon, cheddar cheese, and pepper jack cheese "fried to perfection". They were not kidding about the perfection part, because they were amazing. I think they were a bit larger than a golf ball and it was a serving size of 6 with a side of sour cream. They were served just as our friends arrived so it was perfect timing. We also put an order in for the Mad-Mac bites - their famous mac blended with bacon, fried, and served with secret sauce. These were also the same size as the loaded potato balls and a serving size of 6. This was a yellow cheese sauce, and they were also so good! The sauce it was served with really complemented the mac and cheese. We went a little crazy and each ordered our own entree, as well as two mac and cheese dishes to try. For the mac and cheese we ordered the brat mac (a lager cheese sauce of gruyere, swiss, and sharp cheddar cheeses, with smoked brats stuffed with bacon and cheddar, topped with pumpernickel bread crumbs) and the hillbilly chili mac (black bean and pork chili folded into four cheese mac). They were both served in mini cast iron skillets and piping hot with a serving spoon. These were no "out of the box" cheese sauces and you could really taste the difference. While both were really good, my favorite was the brat mac (which according to their menu, was a winning dish in a competition!). I ordered the spoiled brats (split and grilled bratwurst sliders, beer soaked onions, spicy mustard, and bacon). There were three sliders, and thankfully I had friends to help me eat them because everything else was so filling! I ordered the sliders with no mustard and I absolutely loved them. The onions added such a great flavor to the sliders. It also came with a side of fries which were perfectly crispy. My husband ordered the southern chick (buttermilk dipped and fried chicken breast between 2 cornbread jalepeno and cheddar waffles with maple mustard, lettuce, tomato, and charred scallion aioli). This was among many of the hits of the evening. The serving size was beyond generous, and everything was cooked perfectly; my husband loved it. Our friends ordered that's a spicy meatball (housemade meatballs, marinara, roasted Italian long hots, and melted mozzarella cheese on a hoagie - he really enjoyed this), that's all folks (piled high tavern ham and house smoked maple bacon with melted cheddar on a pretzel roll - our friend had mixed feelings about this, he said that he really liked the sandwich a lot, but after trying the southern chick and the spicy meatball and the brat slider said he wished he would have gotten something else because it was more on the "plain" side comparatively speaking. He said if it was something he had at a deli that it would probably be something that he would order all the time, but next time he would order one of their more specialty sandwiches), and the gaucho burger (pepper jack, house smoked maple bacon, and thick cut onion rings topped with chipotle bbq - our friend wasn't super happy with her burger as she had asked for it to be cooked to medium, and it was served well-done with zero pink) I thought our server was great and really attentive and I can't wait to come back and try more on their menu. read more

We went here on a Sunday late afternoon for the sole reason is that I purchased a Groupon based on their menu. First impression as we walked in, it had a funky (unine cake) smell to it and was pretty much empty. Of course the A/C was blasting and I think the outdoor temp was maybe 65. We each ordered a burger based on the other yelp reviews. We also ordered an order of the snooki mac to split. As far as the burgers, you could go to ANY of the major fast food joints and get better burgers. MM's burger were 1) small 2) meat was dry and overcooked despite asking for medium temp and 3) not flavorful. And even the bun was dry and obviously not fresh. The Mac-n-cheese- was definitely the highlight of the meal. Very good. Service was decent. The girl was had was new and kinda quirky, but she was nice and friendly and was doing her best to please. So, I'm not going to complain there. So I should start by saying that I like Mad Macs. I think they make delicious food and the atmosphere is great. The problem is consistency. The night of the week that you go wildly changes the experience you will have, from it being a great experience to a terrible one. I'm not sure what causes this, but if you catch them at an off time you will very much regret eating here. Though if you catch them right it is great. The consistency is just terrible. read more

Dont let the name fool you however because even though they are known for their mac and cheese they have such an expansive menu where the pickiest to the most refined pallets can be pleased. I planned a dinner for a large group, my son's hockey team... I even called ahead and spoke to the manager, Lou Lou to make sure that they would be able to accommodate a group of our size and she assured me that they would be able to handle it. She told me that they have done this before and were pros at it. She said they would alert the kitchen and let them know that a group of our size were coming so that we weren't sitting around and waiting for our food and would put 2 of her best waitresses on our party. Well.. that was a crock... we waited for 2 hours and hardly any food came out of the kitchen. I had 8 year olds who went hungry that night and adults who never got food. We only had one waitress for 49 people. The small amount of food that did come out was horrible to boot. I wouldn't suggest this place for anything!! The Mac and Cheese is great but service was beyond awful. Restaurant was empty with multiple servers but we were ignored for most of our meal. The waitress forgot to put two of our dinner orders in (for a party of six) so we had to wait an extra 15min to eat. Drink prices are very high ($8 for a mojito) and apps are just as overpriced. I Really enjoyed the food. I had the sampler and tried the Popeye spinach with goat cheese, the four cheese, and the seafood MAC. My son had the four cheese. Nice size portions, enough to take home. I made a return trip to Mad-Macs and the second trip showed a decline from the first in level of service, food quality and customer consideration. My biggest beef was that I went with a Groupon, told the waitress up front that I was using a groupon, and asked about specials. She did not mention that in the fine print of the groupon, you could not use the groupon with the specials (which we had done on the first trip). This led to a misunderstanding which could easily have been avoided. The second service related concern was the slow service, even though there were only two tables of people in the dining room. Finally, the waitress dumped a container of salad dressing onto my guests handbag and scarf. She said she was sorry but I might have expected some comp since there were going to be cleaning bills involved. The food was average. I really like mac and cheese and we had the seafood, the buffalo chicken and the four cheese. They seemed to be overcooked and a bit dried out for my taste. A slight crust is expected on the entry, but this had a shell that you needed to crack with your spoon. There was plenty of shrimp and crab but they were somewhat wasted due to the overcooking. From what I could see, the other dinners were also overcooked although there were no complaints. The side salads, ordered separately were mostly iceburg lettus with a small sprinkling of tomatoes, croutons and cheese. I wouldn't go back, even with a groupon. read more

My husband and I have eaten here multiple times and the food is great, we usually get take out that one of us picks up. The reason there are only 2 stars is because everything else about this place is lacking. Poor customer service, managers that blow you off over the phone, bad decor, horrible delivery drivers. One time we had delivery and the driver sounded high and couldn't find our apartment complex and had us meet him to get our food. Management laughed it off. Most recently though we tried delivery again and after over 2 hours of waiting (we were quoted 45 minutes) a delivery guy showed up with cold food that we turned away. The manager wouldn't come to the phone about the issues except once (when we called after an hour) and then told us they were busy and mistakes were made and that we just had to understand with no apology. This is just a great example of a place Gordon Ramsey needs to visit. We use to live in the same complex as the owner and he told me once that he didn't care that there was a state of emergency or that there was a blizzard coming, he was going to make his employees come in or be fired. I would love this place if it were owned and operated by someone that actually cared about the business and the employees. read more

Ok so I want to first say I was a patron of Matilda's hint the word was I always went here had a great time and service I have a friend who just recently moved from New York and she was really skeptic compared to bars there sooo we sit down and no one comes to the table we had to go find someone to at least get us a drink! Our waitress which yes I'm going to call her out on her neglect JACKIE by the way if she is your waitress run run as fast as you can!! Well long story short we chased her around the entire night to get some drinks even another patron asked if we wanted him to get drinks for us by the end of the night I had to look for Jackie once again and found her dancing with other waitresses and she was clearly having to much fun to realize that I was even standing there because she kept bumping into me while she was spinning in circles with her fellow coworker, the bartender behind the bar was yelling at her Jackie!! But no she was to into her twirling! Ok so by the end of the night my friend who moved her from New York got to go out her first night in Delaware to be ignored the entire night by our twirling waitress the only reason I gave two stars was because hopefully Matilda's will smarten up and teach there wait staff that there not hanging with there friends but there actually working!! read more

So I'm an avid Mad-Macs fan. Their Buffalo Mac is amazing. Service could be better in-house and delivery takes a while. Last night when I ordered, I got my usual, the buffalo mac but for some reason it was off....by a lot. It seemed to have the cheese steak recipe mixed in....the cheese for the cheese steak must be different and it did not mix well. I am hugely disappointed. read more
