Karaoke every day in the separate room, but they are verrrry limited on the available songs. It's getting better, but so slowly. They are just now getting songs that are years old. No smoking in the karaoke room, but you can right outside of it in the main bar. About the main bar, it's just too big of a room, and yet somehow you cannot hear what the person next to you is saying. I wish I knew how to go to the station and have a good time. read more

New to the area and googled "Karaoke Huntsville AL". That search led me to this bar. I think it's called Boxcar now. I'm not sure. It has a room separated for karaoke apart from the main bar. The main bar allows smoking, but they karaoke room does not. The karaoke room is ok. It has awesome murals on the wall, but the equipment is blah which means the sound is not great and the song selection is severely lacking. On the other hand, they also bring karaoke into the main bar area on Friday nights, and that is a world different. Amazing light show (it seriously looked like a major band was going to be playing), phenomenal sound and the guy had every song I asked to sing. Food was pretty good from the grill area. Drinks were a little on the pricey side, but not too bad. This is our karaoke spot especially on Friday nights. read more

Date of visit: 12/30/2011 - I come here 4 to 6 times yearly, that is to say, every-time I'm in Huntsville / Madison area visiting my mom and dad. I bring my dad here to play pool and drink a few beers with him. I've yet to try the food, but my dad isn't into bar food like I am. The reasons while I like The Station: #1. They open at 4pm daily and it is usually quiet here until the night scene starts, so I can chat with my almost deaf dad without having to shout my brains out. #2. They have two of my favorites on tap: Blue Moon and Yuengling. The Yuengling is $2 bucks a draft. Healthy serving size for the money, frosty cold glass and right to the brim... yum!!! They also have four Bar-box pool tables, which are in fantastic shape for bar tables. A buck a game is a little steep, but because of # 1 & #2, I can really live with this. Pool is something my dad can still play despite the severe arthritis in his ankles and wrists. The Station earns 3 Stars because of the above, and the waitress earned them another star because she recognizes us as regulars even though it is only 4-6 times yearly and makes sure she says hello and takes good care of us (Not to mention, she's a rather attractive woman too)!!! Cheap beer, good pool, and a cute waitress.... all the good things in life to help my dad continue to enjoy his. read more

This will be a very detailed review as I have visited this bar on many occasions over the years. In doing so, I have watched my idea of the bar go from one star to five stars. Then, back to one star. In other words, the quality of the experience fluctuates. For that reason, I am giving this review three stars. The bar has five pool tables, two foosball tables, a few arcade games, a vending machine, a grill with limited menu. It offers live music, karaoke and comedy night. It has a large, fenced patio area with a small stage. This was great last summer when they used it for outdoor karaoke. First the good: Thursday nights currently offer $1 pitchers of beer and $.50 wings which are actually very good. This particular night also has free bingo in which customers can participate for the chance to win cash prizes although the amount of cash per game can vary and never goes over $50. Like I said, bingo is free. So, I can't complain about that too much. The DJ that they have currently have for bingo plays a variety of music to help cater to the entire customer base. He isn't too heavy in one genre or another which is a very good thing in my opinion. The prior DJ's music selection was pathetic to say the least. Friday and Saturday nights has the same DJ hosting karaoke, and I just so happen to be an avid karaoke singer. He uses his own equipment and karaoke songs. He uses an app that allows singers to search his songbook and you can tell that he stays on top of keeping it updated. His equipment is much better than the bar's resident equipment. He has up to four wireless microphones for the singers which he sanitizes in between uses. He uses two stage monitors. In my experience, a karaoke host that has even just one stage monitor is difficult to find. Last, but not least, this DJ gives away $50.00 every weekend by randomly drawing a song slip from a bag that contains all slips from that week. Sundays offers comedy night in which amateur comedians take to the stage. I was hesitant about attending this, but they proved to be pretty funny which was a welcome surprise. Don't let that lead you to believe that all of the comedians are funny though because some definitely aren't. Monday-Wednesday is pretty dead in there. Now, the bad: The restrooms are awful. I get that it's a bar, but I think occasions of truly cleaning the restrooms are few and far between. They really need to have someone checking/tidying the restrooms on a regular basis. Restrooms are usually a deal breaker for the ladies, but I cannot speak on the condition of their restroom. I'd imagine that it's not much better. Drink prices are high. The cost of alcohol here is more expensive than other places in the area. Service is slow. There seems to be a quick turnaround time on staff. When the place is even slightly busy, the bartenders have a hard time keeping up. There is usually only one server. So, most people just go to the bar themselves rather than waiting on her. The menu is limited. At one time, this place had a menu with a lot more variety. Now, you're pretty much limited to wings, burgers, and chicken fingers. Stools and chairs in the bar need maintenance. Many are in terrible shape and seem like they might be a liability. The karaoke room tends to smell like a locker room. The table aren't wiped down regularly. They floor may be the final resting place for drink straws, dried up lemon/lime wedges and chicken bones. This is why I loved it when they were doing karaoke on the patio. I have witnessed the weekend DJ cleaning the room before and during his show. He wipes down the tables, vacuums and sprays air freshener. He keeps the tables trash free during the night if his time allows also. Bands/events are not advertised on the bar's Facebook page. You have to send a message to the bar to find out whether or not live music will be there on any given night. This means the difference between paying a cover charge or not. If there is a band, then there is a $5 cover which applies even if you just want to sing karaoke and you're not there for the band. That's my two cents. All in all, if you like karaoke, this is the place to be but only on Friday and Saturday nights. read more

This is probably one of the worse bars I have ever been to. I used to come here a lot back a few years ago but I think with a lot of changes and new places opening up things have changed. First things first, the drinks here are highly overpriced and they are not even really good. The wait for a drink can also exceed 15 minutes if you are not a "regular" as the bartenders rather talk to people than try and earn my tip money. The music is always too loud and it's the worse music choices ever. I don't want to go out and listen to Justin Beiber while trying to have a drink. The people are okay, most people seem sketchy or will try and be your best friend and have you spend more than $60 on drinks and then leave you without saying goodbye or a thank you. This was an interesting joint! It is so weird to walk into a bar and be able to smoke inside. I am not a smoker so it totally burned my eyes, but other than that I was fine. I like the way the bar is setup in the center of the place. It is very accesible but took a while to get service. We spent a quite a bit of time in the small room where they do karaoke. The DJ was on it. He kept everything moving and kept us entertained between acts. In the main room they had a live rock band that played decent music. Fun little spot to go to hang out with friends but definitely not a posh night club. read more

The main bar is below average, smoky, and noisy. Also, expect to pay a $5 cover to get in. The beer selection is not very good, so don't expect anything too fancy. The place does have a few pluses. The bands are usually pretty solid, there is a lot of room and a few pool tables, and there is a no smoking dedicated karaoke room that is pretty cool. read more

Service at Madison Station was awful tonight! Don't waste your time here. My friend and I sat at the bar for 15 minutes, patiently waiting for the bartender to help us. We gave up and went to the walk up area. We stood there for another 10 minutes. When it was finally our turn, the female bartender ignored us to help a guy who just sat down. He pointed to us and let her know we were first. She looked at us, turned around and still wanted to serve him first. We left. If you don't want my money, I'll be happy to spend it elsewhere. This is bar & patio is under new management since around February 2014. they were not open for lunch anymore? But this week aug 2015 i am going to stop by and see if they're open again for lunch. They Have a happy hour. And they usually serve appetizers at half price around four to 5 o'clock on Fridays. My wife loves their BBQ wings & I prefer their ribs. Drinks okay but beer selection is okay, not too exotics. You can telephone them for current operating hours. read more

Horrible customer service. The waitress took my drink, that I was still drinking and threw it away while I was in the bathroom. She also did the same to my friends drink. This was witnessed by multiple people, yet she denies doing so. She basically called all of us liars and the security guard backed her up. The previous time we went there, we were double charged and had items on our bill that we did not even order. This place is a joke. If I could give 0 stars, I would. Never going back. read more

Amazing bartenders. Management needs work. The DJ (Dustin) plays the same songs every night. When you ask him to play something different he says if you don't like what he's playing you can leave.... this guy is also a manager there. It's a decent bar in a bad location (IMO). It has pool tables, sitting area and a kaorake (this was a while back). It's enjoyable and worth to check out at least once if you're around the area. It's not near anything else though. read more

EDIT: I spoke with a member of the band and the owner has agreed to pay the band for the full set. Fantastic to hear that things were resolved between the owner and the band! I am waiting to see if I personally get any reply from the owner/management of the venue in regards to the way my friends and I were treated. I would ask that anyone and everyone stop trashing the Madison Station Bar & Grill on their page, especially the name calling and childish insults that are being thrown around (and I've seen it coming from both supporters of the band as well as the venue). We're all adults and should act that way. Insults and vulgarity are not the way to handle a situation. I told everyone that I would update as new information was available, and here is the information as promised. If I'm unblocked from the Madison Station Bar & Grill page and can post there again, I will say likewise as well as ask the owner/management of the establishment why legitimate concerns of paying customers were not addressed at the time to allow for a reply from the management directly instead of random individuals bashing one another with what they think constitutes "good music," whether supporting the venue or the band. From what I understand, the owner had no knowledge of the events until the next day and started trying to rectify the situation as soon as he found out. ------------------------------------------------------ So here's an interesting story from last night (Jun 9). The Wolves of Chernobyl were set to play at Madison Station Bar & Grill last night at 9PM. I've been dying to hear them play but have always had scheduling conflicts when they've been playing. So last night I go out to Madison Station Bar & Grill, pay a $3 cover for me and three others who had come from Decatur and south Huntsville just to see The Wolves of Chernobyl play there. We get setup at a table and get ready to play some pool. Less than an hour into the Wolves' set a manager walks on stage and tells them to stop playing and leave. Apparently they weren't an 80s/90s cover band so they weren't welcome, even though the venue hired them and had even posted a link to one of The Wolves of Chernobyl's songs earlier in the week on Madison Station Bar & Grill's Facebook page. Many of the venue's patrons were there specifically to see The Wolves of Chernobyl and we were quite upset. I asked to speak to a manger and after waiting around 5-10 minutes a woman walked over to me saying she was a manager and I expressed my displeasure with the handling of the situation and how incredibly unprofessional the whole ordeal was. She didn't seem like she could be bothered with my petty concerns and just dismissed my concerns outright. The band was then trying to pack up their gear and load out into their vehicles when the security staff tells them they are breaking fire code and need to hurry it up. Meanwhile, the band is only paid a fraction of what they were promised when the gig was originally booked. The security staff then leaves his post again checking IDs at the door and comes out into the parking lot to confront several former patrons that were talking about what to do now that the show was over because they were "standing too close to his bike" which was illegally parked in a handicap space. Mind you, nobody in the group was even close to his illegally parked bike, perhaps 5 ft away minimum. The Madison Station Bar & Grill's Facebook page was then flooded with negative reviews from upset patrons about the disrespectful and unprofessional manner in which the venue acted. I called them out on their unprofessional behavior and said that they should issue a formal, written apology to the band and their fans for their terrible behavior as well as pay the artists the originally agreed upon amount for their services. Apparently they couldn't handle the negative publicity so they disabled the review section on their Facebook page, deleted every comment I had posted, and have now blocked me from further posting on their page. As an advocate for the Huntsville music scene, I find this behavior deplorable. Far too often are local musicians taken advantage of, underpaid, and underappreciated. When venues like this not only try to justify thier behavior but won't even bother to issue an apology to their patrons and simply delete and block any negative feedback, I feel as though everyone should know what kind of establishment they truly are. Do you want your hard earned money to support a venue that has no regard for the musicians they hire or the patrons that they serve? I hope this information is spread far and wide to let others know of the risk you take doing business with Madison Station Bar & Grill. read more

I'm glad I found this place. Being a california transplant, this place is cheap. I went with my honey on Saturday night and we had a good time. The drinks were relatively cheap and the crowd was friendly. The beer waitress had the funniest t-shirt. It said "I want to see you naked". We will definitely be coming back to this place. read more

(2/13/16) Came in on a Saturday night and the small cover charge was well worth the experience. The live music was fun and there is just about something for everyone. Live band, dance floor, bar, pool tables, karaoke in the separate room, food, or tables just to people watch. Drink were what i'd expect to find on a Saturday night and crowd was pretty fun (or atleast the group I was with). Country band was great and funny how some patrons approached me and said,"There's about 20 guys here with cowboy boots on and you're the only one out there two stepping with a woman WEARING CONVERSE!" hahaha Between sets they played dj music and the dancefloor started to erupt. Some in our group were even awarded free drinks, cant beat that! If i'm ever in the area i'm sure i'll be back again. Also the bartenders behind the bar were very attentive and top notch. With over 20 years in the bar business I have to say this place has gone WAY down hill from what it use to be even a year ago, we used to come all the time. To many roosters & not enough hens. When you first come in you'll be not greeted by an egotistical bartender who thinks she knows how to run a bar who really needs to work on her attitude towards customers and not refuse to sell drinks because she doesn't want to make said drink. The drink prices have went up and they didn't bother telling anyone. Bingo night has become a lot of fun if you get a chance to go. Glad they changed DJs so it's not the same music every weekend, new DJ is awesome! They don't have the live bands all the time anymore. It had became the same bands with the same ol' people who just played different roles every other weekend and only play 80s-90s music because the "bartender" (mentioned above) says so. Karaoke room is great! We had a lot of fun there. Security either sits at the front on his phone, walks around slapping female customers on the butt, playing pool or on the dance floor with multiple females instead of watching for the fights that break out often due to security not doing his job and customers being being over served alcohol. Also if you decide to keep a tab open, you will be paying for extra drinks at the end of the night that you never ordered. This has happened to a few friends as well. Overall we do not enjoy this place anymore and will maybe only come for the Thursday Bingo if at all. Honestly this place should be shut down, new management brought in as well as a new bartender and security (everyone else makes it worth coming) and a facelift. I've been going with a coworker to Thursday night free bingo for 2 months now. The atmosphere is chill (and smoky). Usually only one or two waitresses to work the floor; admittedly it takes forever to get service at the bar and infinitely as long to get floor service. The hour before bingo hosts a free buffet--last time it was wings and quesadillas. No charge for refills on sodas. yes, smoking is allowed inside, so be prepared for that. read more

Visited 01/17/2014 -Service is extremely slow - At the Bar, the bartender took my order, then waited on 3 other people before pouring my glass of wine. I tipped well to ensure that this would not happen again, but alas, that was not the case. The next time ordered, I was promptly acknowledged, but this time, it took 20 min to pour a glass and I was sitting in front of the selection and had my cash on the bar. The Karoke room was rocking and the DJ kept the place hopping! Thankfully that room was smoke free. The band in the main bar was hopping too. Service in the Karoke room was worse than at the bar. 45 minutes after we flagged her down - and she returned to the room with 3 other orders before one of us followed her out and asked for our order. She said it was the bartender's fault and after another 20 minutes finally brought our drinks. Oh, and we discovered that she double charged us for those drinks too. I suggest going there for music and Karoke but not to eat or drink. read more

This place used to be great. They now constantly change their drink special and don't tell their customer. They also do not honor gift cards that have no restrictions other than that there is not cash back from them. Very disappointed in how management runs this place. This is coming from someone that has 11 years in the hospitality industry and then to top it. We as a group have been coming here for the past 6 years and it still has declined steadily. I've been going to the Madison Station off and on for years now and the only thing good about the place anymore is the Karaoke room on Friday and Saturday nights. The new management is in the wrong line of work as a bar owner. He doesn't care what the customers have to say or complain about. I never know if I'm going to be charged a cover charge or not it just depends on if you are a or regular or if you say you are just going to the Karaoke room. A couple of weeks ago he charged $10 cover charge for a single DJ just because the company Polaris was there and he knew there would be a full house which is twice as much as he charges for a full band. Half the time it says no cover charge on Facebook and the girl at the door still ask me for $5.00 and then sometimes she says If you saw no cover on Facebook and mention it you don't have to pay but if you don't mention it you do have to pay. That's no way to run a business. The waitress and bartending staff changes more often than a model changes her clothes. There are 2 waitresses that I might have to wait several minutes to get my drinks. The other one's I might be waiting 30 minutes on so I usually get my own. The last time I was there with my friends it took the waitress 4 times to get one order of drinks right. The bathroom doesn't look like it has ever been cleaned. If you like having your brain scrambled because the music is so loud that the bathroom stalls shake and 90% of all they have playing there is heavy metal then that's the place to be. read more

I go here all the time, its the one place i can unwind and just enjoy a beer with some unique people. But be warned you will smell like smoke and some of the patrons creep down from the hills like molases so they are typically looking to fight a "city boy". But avoid eye contact and you wont have a problem. The only other problem is that the dance floor is too small, i was out there cutting up, gliding on all fours, for a split second i swear my body turned into tiny digital pixels and i morphed into the music, i danced for hours and my clothes were heavy with sweat, but my glidin and divin, jukin and bootin, came to a stop when some ol foo decided to make my soul stop glowing. him and his possee threw me out in the street, tearing up my 6 piece polyester suit.
