Have been giving this store my business for 9 years. I went by yesterday to pick up some things for mother's day. Not only is the store supposed to close at 7pm, but I came by at 6:50pm and saw other people in the store shopping. The door was locked, and when I tried to get the man's attention at the door who was helping another customer, I was ignored. When he acknowledged me, he shooed me away. I knocked on the door to motion that it was still 5 minutes to 7 after having stood there trying to get their attention, and he aggressively shooed me away again. I needed three pounds of shea butter and a pound of jojoba oil to make body butter for mother's day. I was turned away after 9 years of giving this store my business. I will no longer be shopping here, and am EXTREMELY disappointed in this poor level of customer service after all these years. Store products are AMAZING, customer service has improved, but when check out time the lines are extremely long! Line almost out the door Why? 3 windows open and all backed up because people are conducting business transactions, haggling on pricing/discounts. On 12/20/25 I was in line for an HOUR waiting to pay for my items! Then after retailers completed their transactions the line started moving, but by that time several patrons became frustrated put their items down a walked out! Ten years ago, I made my first purchase with Madina. I am finally running low on oil, so I reordered my favorite oil, expecting the same quality as previously purchased. What a disappointment! They cut my favorite oil!! How do I know? I've been wearing this oil for more than 10 years. I know my scent. I am an aromatherapist. I flipped the bottle. Uncut oil is thick, so thick it has air bubbles, and when I flipped the bottle upside down, it took the bubble 3 seconds to reach the top. I did the same flip-the-bottle test on my recent purchase of 2 pounds of carrier oil and 3-1 ounces of oils. The new carrier oils are thin, like baby oil, and there are no air bubbles. The carrier oils did not pass the bottle test, the one big bubble made it to the top in less than 2 seconds. I spent too much on 2 pounds of carrier oils and others. I've tried Madina's products I am using these products now. The raw unprocessed Shea Butter...just as I expect Shea Butter to be. I also tried the Processed Shea Butter its good but not better than the Raw Shea butter( Pro is you wont have yellow all over the pace just have a wet washcloth beside you. I have been coming to this shop for over 15 years, possibly much longer. I use the raw Mango and Shea butters, as well as Aloe and Cocoa butters. The selection of perfumed oils are excellent and the quality is top shelf. I have some larger bottle for years without quality and scent diminishing. The workers have a "I can help you demeanor" without being fake and outright friendly. This may be a turn-off for some customers. I think it may be a cultural thing so don't expect Little Miss/Mr Sunshines behind the counter. I haven't had a negative transaction ever. I know what I want when I go, but its best to check the site and do a little research as to products if you are a novice. The array can be intimidating if not. This is one of those stores that I've walked by a million times but never even noticed until my girlfriend recommend we check the store out to pick up some incense. This store is huge. It is divided into two sections, one which features items like soaps, oils and incense. On the other side is more of a housewares section featuring most prominently a series of elaborate clocks on the wall. There aren't a lot of aisles, but the store is very long. The wall of incense is pretty amazing and the prices are very hard to beat. Behind the cashier counter is a wall of multi-colored scented oils that look like something out of a movie! Service was quick, but not overly friendly or rude - just right in the middle. The store was *very* popular as there was a constant flow of customers coming in who all seemed to be regulars. Being in NYC, you will see many street vendors setting up stands that sell these natural products, but many of these products are actually bought from Madina. Through this exchange, the quality of products may be reduced because vendors may cut/dilute their oils. Furthermore, the products are more expensive on the streets. A vendor will sell a 1 oz perfume bottle for $10, while the same amount is only $4 at Madina. So if you are looking for pure, uncut products that are reasonably priced, go directly to the source itself! I cannot stress enough that Madina is the go-to place for all things natural. From oils, soaps, to deodorants, and toothpaste. This is a goldmine for anyone who is trying to steer away from artificial ingredients and dangerous chemicals, and are looking for natural products. I have bought incense, perfume oils, soap, etc. from here and can attest the quality of their products. They sell items individually but you can also find them cheaper in bulk. The one caveat to this is that some products such as incense may degrade over time so don't stock up too much on incense (approx. 1 year shelf life before the fragrance dissipates). The oils, however, remain potent. The oils seem to be constantly restocked because of the amount of foot-traffic in their store. This means that you will be getting a quality product, that has NOT been sitting on a shelf for months. Website and Store: Madina has a website that is updated frequently, so you can see what is in stock and pick it up in the store (or order online). They have clearance sales and promotions regularly so keep an eye out for that. Their website is helpful as I've been to the store several times and have known exactly what I wanted. However, this means that I have had minimal interaction with the employees. I have not asked for help with anything and admittedly would not feel comfortable doing so only because of the heavy and random store traffic that can happen at any moment. I also want to point out that Madina is a brand. They have their own line of soaps, so they do not carry products from other well-known companies such as Nubian Heritage. However, you can walk a few stores down and find other brands for reasonable prices. Within the vicinity, Nubian Heritage soap will sell at $5 for 2 bars, or $3/bar.... this is much cheaper than if you were to buy it at Target or Whole Foods! He turned into a quiet monster. When I entered this store it was very neatly laid out and smelled so nice. They had some of the products I'm accustomed to and others I never knew/heard of. As these stores go, nice vibe and again I stress so neat. Many others I've been to different parts of New York and the world have not been the same. They're usually jam packed and you have to search hell and high waters to find what you're looking for, many times missing something new to try, OR I guess finding something new to try. Either way I don't enjoy digging through products in stores. I usually like to give my yelp reviews a little more weight by attaching pictures of what I speak of, to give readers a bit of the visual, so I took two pictures on my way in. As I proceeded to pay for my shea and aloe butters I noticed and liked their display of incense so I attempted to take a shot of that as well. The clerk suddenly said to me "no pictures, you can see any picture you want on our website and yelp" Wharp wharp whaaaaarp. I told him "oh I was only taking pictures to add to a good review on yelp". He gave no further explanations ie it's for religious reasons, nothing else was said. This has taught me that I now have to be sneaky with my picture taking. Maybe I'm too graphic and he recognized my features from said yelp *shrugs* Prior to this, the other clerk packing my purchases did say he was giving me a free bottle of lotion which I appreciate but in all honesty I won't come back to this store. Sometimes a street vendor cuts the hell out of their burning oils with this or that. It is great to be able to hit a spot that sells the oil strong. And sell the cut in big bottles. These are not therapeutic grades of burning oils. A store like Enfleurage will fill that need. But they will make the home smell good. They smell nice on the body, and won't make you itch. They do carry essential oils like tea tree, hemp, and shea oils in small to massive quantities. You can cut the burning oils yourself, if you are apprehensive about placing them on your skin, or wherever. There are nice bulk selections of incense sticks, cones, and their diffusers. The soaps and Shea Butters are outstanding. There are prayer books, and meditation supplies on the other side of the store. If you like long lasting smell goods for the house, go to Madina and get your sniff on. The 16oz clearance bottles, cut with veggie glycerin, will last a long while, even if you burn daily. Excellent prices! I've been ordering from them for a couple of years now, and they have the best price for a bulk order of crystal deodorant and they ship expeditiously. I placed an order on Saturday and it arrived by Tuesday. You can't beat that. One major draw back for me: everything you order arrives smelling like a mixture of incense and body oils. I fully understand that the store sells tons of these items but the box, packing paper, receipt, the plastic bags items are shipped in are saturated with this smell that is so unpleasant to me. I ordered a dozen bath sponges and the smell made me nauseous. If you like incense and certain body oils, it may not bother you. I threw them in the washing machine with vinegar and baking soda hoping to eliminate the odor. No such luck, I had to throw them out. That smell was taking over everything in my linen closet! It's my go-to spot for Shea Butter, tea tree oil, and black soap. Additionally, they have great natural products perfect for making a quick gift basket at a bargain. They also carry a really wide selection of burning oils - scents that you can't readily find at other vendors. In fact, the signature scent of my 20s (which I will never divulge) could only be found at Madina. The customer services is great and if they don't have something you're looking for, they'll try to help you find it elsewhere. I have loved Madina deeply since it was just a hole in the wall that I frequented as a high school student at Brooklyn Tech more than two decades ago. Over the years it has given me so much pleasure to see it expanded and remodeled and eventually come to enjoy the success it deserves. I am neither black nor Muslim (from skin and hair care products to Islamic accoutrements, these are the primary demographics Madina serves), but the sheer assortment of tantalizing and unique incense and body oils has made this European American a die-hard customer from the beginning. And I relish withholding the origins of these unique scents from my Euro friends when they invariably inquire. The in-store experience has always been a good one for me. Sure there is the occasional customer who forgets to leave their stank ghetto attitude at the door, but customer service is always above par and I've had many experiences with the guys behind the counter going above and beyond for me -- never without my explicit gratitude and loyalty. So why only one star? Because of their website and telephone customer service. To anyone reading this, please have a look at my other reviews. This is the only venue I've ever given a single star. But the people at Madina Industrial Corp. need to address those issues because it is losing them money and long-time customers. I moved to south Brooklyn in 2009 and now live in Queens, so Madina is unfortunately quite a bit out of the way for me. All the more reason to be grateful for online ordering. Except I haven't yet been able to use the website to fulfill an order. It is very poorly designed in terms of navigability and the first time I used it, I had to refill my cart three times before attempting to check out, only to be told I didn't have a certain ID number and eventually giving up. Oh well, they just lost about $60 worth of online business. Jump ahead to me finally getting around to traveling the sizable distance to visit the place and being told by the guy that they were out of the oil I wanted. I explained my problem with the website and the guy (who was very polite despite my exasperation) looked me up in the system and gave me the proper ID number. I went online again recently and found that the ID he'd given me wasn't helpful at all. Again, YOU ARE LOSING MONEY because of the inscrutable nature of your website. Most recently, I figured I'd be smart. After finding the website useless I decided to kill two birds with one stone and drop by while visiting a friend in the area. So I called customer service to make sure they had the oils I wanted in stock and confirm the pricing before making the trip. Holy Crap! I haven't had such absolutely deplorable customer service in years. The man was curt to a fault, acted outwardly annoyed by my questions and cough-hacked into the phone multiple times without covering his mouth or even holding the receiver away. I'm no shrinking violet, but I do champion a modicum of courtesy when it comes to deciding who I give my money to and all I can say is I am within an inch of giving up. I have no idea if Madina reads their Yelp reviews, but if they do, PLEASE respond to this one to let me know that you are listening and that you care about customer loyalty. Let me know that these egregious transgressions will be addressed and brought up to snuff. Shea butter prices are AWESOME here, and they have a great selection (processed, unprocessed, and other options). I now own a giant tub of the stuff and I love, love, love it.
