I ordered something which came with a sauce that was off tasting and after trying thru 6 or seven bites I gave up. Something was wrong. Of course their server said I ate half of it and took it away. I said they should replace it with something better or at least edible. They manager finally talked to me when she saw me upset claiming someone told her I ate half of the bad food which she hadn't seen or addressed with me. Reluctantly and with attitude she got me a BLT (smaller than the one we get every week) slammed on the table pushing it towards me saying in a very Snarky tone "Hope you have room for that!" What? Insinuating I'm cheating them out of food or cheating somehow? What will happen is next week when the 4 of us play golf here we won't be eating here again as we do have choices.

It reflects something a little harder to quantify: value. The amount a restaurant asks me to pay inevitably creates a certain expectation. Food, service, atmosphere and price don't exist independently of one another; they form a package. And for me, the package simply didn't come together here. There were things I genuinely liked. We sat outside, beneath a corrugated metal covering, and I actually enjoyed the design of the space. The tables and chairs are a refreshing departure from the polished, corporate, "haven't I seen this in twelve other restaurants?" look. And the candle wall at the far end of the patio is simply wonderful--warm, cozy and genuinely beautiful. Unfortunately, the food didn't live up to the setting or the prices. We each had a beer: an 11.16-ounce can for $10. It was cold, fresh and perfectly drinkable. It also wasn't particularly good. Obviously, the restaurant didn't brew it, but ultimately they chose it, priced it and served it. We also shared the Chicken Empanadas ($18) and Mariscos Fritos ($22). The empanadas were... meh. Nothing particularly wrong with them, but nothing that made me want another one, either. The Mariscos Fritos were the bigger disappointment. The menu promises calamari and shrimp, although I honestly had trouble identifying much of either. There was plenty of fennel, which was far too raw for my taste, and the dish was a considerable distance from what I would describe as "cooked to perfection." And I want to be fair here: nothing tasted spoiled. Nothing appeared to have been fried in old oil. Nothing was inedible. We finished the plate. It simply wasn't enjoyable. The service was perfectly fine and, frankly, perfectly forgettable--and I don't necessarily mean that as criticism. Good service can be a little like music in a movie: sometimes you barely notice it, but you'd certainly notice if it weren't there. Nothing about the service bothered me, and nothing particularly stood out. What finally crystallized my feelings was looking to my right from our table and seeing a parking lot. At one point I was being blinded by the headlights of a car whose driver needed about four attempts to park. Had I been looking at the Caribbean Sea, I might have sipped my $10 canned beer, eaten my rather ordinary appetizers and thought, Well... I'm paying for the whole experience. But I wasn't looking at the Caribbean Sea. I was looking at a parking lot. And perhaps that's the best way I can explain the two stars. Two $10 beers and two appetizers brought us to $60 before tax and tip. That amount, by itself, doesn't offend me. I've happily spent similar amounts elsewhere and walked away thinking, Worth it. Here, I didn't. The food wasn't terrible. The service wasn't bad. The setting had some genuinely lovely touches. And the prices, considered in isolation, aren't outrageous. They simply didn't belong together. For what we ate, where we ate it, and the overall experience we received, I left feeling that what I had paid and what I had received were too far apart. And ultimately, that's what I'm rating.

The management was wonderful, the service was well organized, and the food was amazing. It's not easy handling a party this size, but they always make the experience enjoyable. The Mexican food is consistently delicious, and the drinks are always great as well. We look forward to this celebration every year, and Kalaveras has become a special part of the tradition. We'll definitely continue coming back for great food, drinks, and another memorable end-of-season celebration!

When the attendant returned she said they were actually completely out, but the drink I had ordered was a double IPA, and without any prices posted or itemized receipt, I wasn't sure what I was able to get instead. The attendant then tells me "if you get something cheaper, I won't change the price" which confused me. A double IPA is typically more expensive than a regular beer or seltzer and she didn't even offer a refund to compensate for the fact that it was sold out and I had already paid for it. This could have been mitigated if the prices were available or she offered me an itemized receipt. For 2 beers I paid $20 before tipping. As a customer I'd like to be informed of what I'm getting charged for, and if I'm charged for something more and given less, I'd like a partial refund. In the end I got my beers and sat down. The brewery itself doesn't serve food, so it was nice being able to bring my own food and est what I want. Again, up until 30 minutes of being there, no music was playing, so very off putting vibe. Overall, I did not enjoy my experience here and don't recommend anyone coming here when other breweries are in tbe area and much more clear with pricing and have a more lively vibe.

We came for a beer and, at most, a nibble. But the place impressed me enough that I wanted to say something anyway. It started with the greeting. We were welcomed with a charming smile of approximately 10,000 watts and a genuinely warm, friendly hello. Now, I'm sure this wasn't entirely because I'm that good-looking, so I have to assume this is simply how they treat people. We immediately confessed that we'd already eaten and would probably only "nibble at best." This is where I half expected that 10,000-watt smile to be turned down to perhaps 100. It wasn't. "Absolutely no problem." Could we sit outside? Of course. Sit here--just not there, because "there" belongs to another restaurant. And that was that. We settled into a little nook in front of the restaurant, ordered two Bavarian pilsners I'd never seen before and some potato wedges. The beers were cold--but thankfully not frozen into submission--and very tasty. The potato wedges were excellent, and the sauce underneath them provided a wonderful contrast. That's about as far as my qualifications as a food critic extend on this particular visit. But what impressed me most wasn't actually the beer or the potatoes. Let's face it: if every customer came to AhbA, occupied a table and ordered one beer and a nibble, the restaurant probably wouldn't survive very long. And yet, despite how little we ordered, we were treated as though our business mattered just as much as anyone else's. We were welcomed and treated as though we were exactly the customers they had been hoping would walk through the door. Maybe that's clever long-term business strategy. Maybe it's simply genuine hospitality and happiness to see a new face. Either way, it worked. I left liking the place. I'll be back. Next time I'll bring some friends and, more importantly, a proper appetite. Then we'll find out whether the rest of the menu can hold a candle to that first impression. For now, I can only review the experience I actually had. And that experience gets five stars.

One of the "managers" of Madeleine's bar discriminates against homosexuals! I have been going there for over a year now. It's a fun little place to wind down after a long day at work. The jukebox has a lot of good choices for music and we like to play pool. All of the female bartendars are wonderful, friendly, and pour strong drinks. I go there because of my best friend, who happens to be a gay man. He has been a regular there since before I even knew it existed. We were going to meet there New Year's Eve. He arrived shortly before me with another friend, but was quickly instructed to leave when one of the patrons yelled, "We don't want any tomcats here!" The man behind the bar, who I'll call "M", has kicked my friend out in the past because he doesn't want to "change the flavor of the bar", then asked my friend, "What is your intention of being here?" My friend, at that point shocked and embarassed, answered "I'd like to buy a drink and play a couple games of pool." M's response was, "Well, you're too wasted. You need to leave." My friend had literally just arrived and had yet to even order a drink! My friend left the bar and stood outside in tears waiting for me to arrive. The only kindness he recieved was from one of our favorite female bartendars who was arriving to work the closing shift. She apologized and explained that M would be leaving and my friend could go back in then. I arrived and was disappointed to find my friend crying and standing outside in the cold simply for the fact that his sexual preferences differ from that of M's. We immediately left and had a wonderful evening at another OC bar, but I'm very disappointed in what happened. He has brought a lot of business to that bar. I wouldn't go there at all if it weren't for my "tomcat" friend. I mean, really, what year is it again? Are people really still that ignorant? Sadly, I returned to the bar just last night, only to hear someone telling random strangers on the patio about my friend getting kicked out on New Year's Eve the minute my friend walked away. It's noone's business what my friend does in his personal life. He is kind and friendly to everyone and doesn't deserve to be discriminated against. So, if you're a gay man, or woman, just be sure there's a woman behind the bar. I refuse to go near there when M is working and spend my hard-earned money tipping someone who is, not only rude in general, but clearly ignorant and prejudiced. read more

The bar is normally fun but there a blonde bar tender who works the weekends that looks like she's on heroin. Stares off into space while looking at u as ur waiting for ur drink. I've seen her knodding out in the back many times. The place is fun but waiting for a drink for 20 mins while the lame chick is sleeping in back or shooting dope is a complete joke. She should be fired because she has lost that place A lot of money an customers. I for sure won't be goin back any time soon specially if she's working there even tho I live 2 blocks away.
