We stopped in to kill a little time before going to the other place. We went to they had drinks. I had a couple steps, but I ended up just drinking water to feel better. It was a fun place. It was quite busy. The music was great. they have a pool table they have outside so you can smoke if people do smoke. The vibe is great. We got a large table for all of us to sit and just talked and hung out and then more friends came to celebrate which was awesome and then we left, but it was nice. We got seats. Local here, I used to go to goat hill pretty often... probably wont anymore after the horrible experience I had last weekend. Recently got laid off and went to blow some steam off with my boyfriend and room mate, we ordered a few drinks and the bar tender with long hair looks at me when I was trying to order more and said I didnt tip him with a nasty look so he took every one else's order...... I waited 30 minutes there and he wouldnt even look at me after. I understand people live off tips but I found it super disrespectful and highly inappropriate... it gets worse.... when I realized he was being a douche I went to the other side of the bar and he saw so he told the other bartender (he was on the bigger side) managing that area something and pointed at me. That bartender never got my order and I waited again for a while until the woman bartending finally got my order. Im so sad and kind of traumatized by what happened because I love goathill and usually staff is nice but I dont know what happened this time, maybe because there was so many people his ego was higher than his height??? read more

I would rather pay triple the price to never see that restroom again. The price of the drinks were not remotely comparable to the nastiness of the environment you are in. SECURITY made this place a huge disappointment! Last weekend your security guard Isaac used physical force on my friend for walking outside of the bar with a drink he got from goat hill. For all he knew it could have been water!! IT IS A CRIME to punish or retaliate against anyone with violence for a MINOR rule violation. He was unexpectedly picked up from his legs and thrown to the floor! Hitting his jaw!!! My friend did not want to press charges at the time but if it was me, I would have! Ridiculous to have uncontrolled and naive security working for this bar. My uncle David worked at your bar for years and he never reacted in such stupidity! Your bar and ISAAC, is lucky he did not crack his head open on your property or cause a severe injury. Because charges would have been pressed! He should be fired for unreasonable violence. Unless this bar consents this type of behavior! As well as the other security guards who protected him automatically and just kicked us off the property. Cops were called that night and mentioned charges could be pressed. It was a great night, turned to a shit show. Nobody returned physical violence in return! It wasn't what we were seeking at all! What did my eyes see last night? The people watching here on a Sunday evening is truly unmatched. People arrived, as if from outer space, in bizarre outfits and way, way too drunk for 9pm. There was a man in a mullet smoking indoors. There was a velour tracksuit. There were girls shrieking in the bathroom, standing on the toilets to take pictures of each other above the stalls. The music was too loud (hope you like drake!) and the lights are so bright it kind of feels like an upside-down world CVS. Way too overcrowded. They let just about anyone inside. I appreciate the strict security at door. They thoroughly check every lady's bag and all gentleman's waistband. 100% made me enjoy being inside knowing it's a very safe space. I believe they serve some food until a certain time. I'm pleased to report Goat Hill Tavern is still going strong and is still the great place it's aways been. The GOAT (not you LeBron) founded in 1968 is a bona fide Costa Mesa institution. Legend has it that back in the day Newport Beach snobs referred to Costa Mesa as Goat Hill. Orange County has a lot of great bars, and the GOAT is one of the best. I will say, though, many of the great dives in Orange County are going by the wayside, but not the GOAT. It's full bar but beer is the thing with roughly 144 taps. Too many of them are devoted to IPAs, but that's just me. I hate IPAs. Pro tip ask for a tray of peanuts. They are good, and you can throw the shells on the floor to your heart's content. I can't lie I was just excited to have a night out and then I witnessed a 23 year old get in to the bar but his mother from the UK (who is obviously over 21) get denied because she didn't have her PASSPORT on her even though she had her ID. i've also read other reviews on this topic. It was her last night in the states and she was so excited to just have a drink with her group.
