This restaurant is known for its Pho. We decided to order non-pho items to see how the taste and quality compared to other Vietnamese restaurants in the GTA. The Pad Thai was made with ketchup and not authentic ingredients such as tamarind, lemon grass and other spices so we decided not to order it. Instead we ordered the Make Your Own Vermicelli Bowl with grilled pork and chicken, Mongolian Beef and Red Curry Chicken. The Vermicelli Bowl could have used more vegetables since there pork slices were extremely thin and there was not much meat in the bowl. The curry was too thick, as if cornstarch was added. By far, the Mongolian Beef tasted the best out of the three dishes, but there was an overwhelming amount of onion compared to the beef itself so the dish looked out of proportion. The dishes were overpriced for what we received. Service was fair, considering there was only one server in the restaurant on a Friday evening seating customers, taking orders, and also cleaning up. Restaurant decor and atmosphere was simple. The back cushions in the booths were uncomfortable so we opted to sit at one of the regular tables with chairs. Overall, the most popular items ordered by customers is the Pho, so I would probably limit my menu selections. read more

It's great to have another great pho option on this part of town. Recently renovated by the new owners makes this a comfy modern place But more importantly the food is awesome. I'm a bit of a pho and bun snob, and so far it passes the test. I'm excited to come back and try the bun bo hue, as that's a tougher find and not always available at other pho places. read more

When I first arrived in Hamilton, I passed by a pho restaurant on my way to checking into the hotel. This occurrence planted a seed in my memory that I needed to get some pho during my recent visit to this city. Last Saturday, I was hungry after spending hours shopping. I did a search and found Made Pho You. Is it normal to be swayed by a punny restaurant name? Pho sure! Made Pho You is a restaurant in a small plaza that it shares with Hasty Market. There is parking, but it is limited. I had no problem backing into a spot and heading in. A nice man greeted me. He said that I could sit anywhere. I found a booth and sat down. The interior is older. I pretty much sank into my booth seat. I got a menu and reviewed it. What's different about the pho menu is that you can choose up to four different proteins. I have never seen that before! I got a medium pho, and chose rare beef and beef flank as my proteins. He took my order down and left. I got tea right off the bat. It was fragrant and helped me decongest my sinuses. He came back with a plate of garnishes for my pho. I got bean sprouts, mint, a chili pepper, and a lime wedge. Moments later, my pho had arrived. I thanked him and was ready to eat. I'm glad that I got a medium. It was packed full of protein and noodles. This place is generous with everything. I had difficulty putting my bean sprouts and mint in, and trying to mix everything together because it was that full. The broth was yummy. I loved the noodles. The beef flank was tender and was surprisingly lean. The rare beef was perfect. It was such a perfect comforting meal. He came over to provide the bill to me. Normally, I head up to the front to settle it. I did walk up and used my credit card to pay. I visited the washroom, which is a bit of a walk down a long corridor. It was weird that the door lock in the stall is at the bottom of the door. It's like you should lock it when you sit on the toilet and unlock it before you get up. It was that low. Weird. Anyway, the washroom was clean and spacious. It just seemed so far away. When I got back to my table to put my jacket on, it caught a tall twiggy plant in a small planter, which felt to the floor. I felt so bad and apologized. The nice man said that it was okay and that he'd take care of it. I felt so bad that I hope I'm not banned from coming here again and am labelled the plant destroyer. I am thinking that perhaps I'm not the only one who has knocked it over. Despite creating havoc on a plant, this restaurant has good eats. I'd come back again to see if I am still good to dine here. We dropped by to dine in with a group of 7 on our way back to the GTA from Niagara Falls. We ordered a number of dishes: 5 Pho bowls of various sizes/protein combinations, 1 Vegetable & Seafood Chow Mein, 1 House Appetizer Platter, and 1 Hot & Sour Seafood Soup with Rice Noodles. I cannot comment on the chow mein and hot and sour soup as I didn't sample them. The appetizer platter was just decent -- standard sampling fare including: spring rolls, shrimp spring rolls, coconut shrimp, chicken wings, deep fried wontons, grilled sausage (more like Spam), and mango salad. Our party appreciated the 'Make Your Own Pho' concept where we got to choose up to 4 items amongst: rare beef, beef flank, beef balls, beef tripe, beef tendon, and chicken. My husband and I shared an XL Pho with extra noodles - we asked for a mix of rare beef and beef tendon. The portions were definitely generous, especially the amount of noodles and broth they gave us. However, there was hardly any tendon which was slightly disappointing. Broth flavor was pretty good. Prices were very reasonable. I'd recommend this place if you're looking for a casual, warm, filling, and inexpensive meal in the area. If you're on the hunt for the best pho in Hamilton, this probably is not the place you'd want to check out. read more

Shrimp Rolls: Soooo many, sooo good, Crisp & filling. 2. Special Pho: The pho was okay, I didn't love it but it was filling and 100% comfort food on a cold night. This was our first visit to Made Pho You. As other reviewers have mentioned, the decor is nothing to write home about but it's not that bad. We went at 2:15 on a Thursday and were the only customers. The waiter came immediately with menus and shortly thereafter with tea. The menu is fairly extensive, with all the usual suspects such as pho, vermicelli, rice dishes, noodles, etc. I had the vermicelli with spring roll, sausage and shrimp on a sugarcane. The spring roll was pretty good but with a wheat wrapper rather than the traditional rice wrapper. It tasted good though, so no complaints. The sausage was good and there were three slices, so not a bad portion. The shrimp on a sugarcane wasn't good at all. It was tiny (smaller than my thumb) and was chewy and dry. The bowl was filled with plenty of vegetables and chopped peanuts but no mint. My husband had the pho with tendon, tripe, rare beef and beef balls. The broth was fairly tasty, not the best we've had by any stretch of the imagination, but not bad. The portions of protein were ok, not generous. Lots of bean sprouts and plenty of basil on the side though. We sat for at least 20 minutes with our empty dishes but the waiter never came back to clear the table. The washrooms were basic but clean, but you have to walk down a really long, dank corridor to get to them. All in all, not a bad experience. We may return if we're in the area. Doesn't hold a candle to Mississauga Vietnamese restaurants though. read more

This restaurant is usually our "go to" place in Hamilton. I've always raved about it to my friends and family. it always been great the owners knew what we wanted everytime we came in. BUT.... and I'm extremely sorry to say the ownership changed and so did the quality. From the noodles they use to the serving size. I hate saying this but it's true..... our last time in restaurant the owner told my boyfriend owner will change but recipes will not! Its true the pho recipe has not changed but ever since we've been there at least 3 times and ordered for pick up as well it's just different and not great :( everyone always talks about pho in Hamilton and other restaurants yeah they're ok but not great and I know that people know what restaurant is pretty popular in Hamilton it didn't even compare to made pho you but not now I'm so super disappointed. I don't usually leave reviews i promise but I had to today after our order. And just FYI the last owner didn't give us "special" treatment because we were regular customers the experience never changed since day one! read more

This is my go to pho restaurant. It beats out Ben Thanh and Pho bin minh by far! The building itself looks divey but hey that is how you know the food is gonna be good. The house special pho always has a generous portion of meat! I never leave not stuffed. The prices are very fair and decent. The vermicelli bowl is large and filling too. Was in the East end tonight and decided to drop in for some takeout. What a gem this discovery was. The Pho is the best that I have had in the city and the mango salad is to die for. just went in for the first time tonight. the decor was a little bland. you actually get a server who takes your order instead of writing it down yourself like the other Hamilton Viet joints and Our server was actually pleasant and spoke to us..unlike the other Hamilton Viet joints. The food was okay. nothing too crazy. the portions were good and although we didn't get the pho, the broth from the BBQ pork and seafood soup we got was very clean and flavorful. The appearance of the restaurant may look intimidating (from both the inside and outside) at first, but it is important to note that the restaurant was previously an old breakfast diner. Servers are fast, efficient and friendly. I had the Make Your Own Pho - you choose up to four items to add to your pho, making it different from other Vietnamese restaurants in the area since they have pre-made combinations. The broth is delicious, much better than other broths in the area. The bubble tea is also good - I recommend the peach bubble tea. Sweet yet tangy taste! What can I say about this place? The food is absolutely amazing!!! The service is second to none!!! Took my sweetheart on a Friday date night dinner there and she was thoroughly impressed. We ordered the dinner for two which included an appetizer (we choose spring rolls, delicious) followed by soup (I chose the wonton, she chose hot and sour, both off the charts delicious) and last but not least came the entree. She chose the satay beef while i chose the scallop satay stir fry which we shared. The beef was tender and bursting with flavour. The scallops were cooked to perfection. My only regret was sharing it with her. Needless to say I am pretty sure I will be getting some action tonight. They just opened last week so the Wangs thought they would check it out. They weren't sad to see the Ranch House go (went once and left disappointed) so figured a new restaurant in that space would be better. It was! As mentioned by Dustin, there are some new tables and windows but some of the old furniture is still there too. It is spacious inside and the prompt service was great. Their current website is not very good so don't judge it by that. The prices were very reasonable (including a couple dinner combos - an appetizer, soup and two entrees for $28). Mrs. Wang loves soup with udon noodles so that was a quick pick. Bart thoroughly enjoys pad thai but decided to mix it up with a vermicelli bowl. They started with fresh salad rolls (with pork). The jasmine tea to start is nice. The salad rolls were very large, fresh and delicious. Then the main courses arrived in huge serving bowls. Mrs. Wang loved her soup and Bart was thrilled by his bowl of meat (beef, chicken, spring roll and sausage - all great but the sausage was particularly tasty), vermicelli noodles and salad. The Wangs left with two salad rolls and a half litre of soup. They even gave the grand opening discount still! With a 25% tip, it was only $27.95! Next time, Bart probably wouldn't get the appetizer. Not because it wasn't good but because it was too much food. $20 gets a large quantity of high quality Vietnamese food. So glad to have them in the neighbourhood! read more

Not sure why people are complaining about this restaurant. I've been several times and the food is great and the serving sizes are normal. I've been to several pho restaurants and this is just as good or even better and the prices are the same or cheaper. The decor is bad but decor doesn't make the food taste any better or worse. I just came here to get Pad Thai to go! It was really good and I would definitely buy it again! It was a bit more expensive (13 $ for my Pad Thai vs 10$ at another place ) but you get a huge portion (enough for two people) and it actually tastes good. You will want to actually eat it all. And it feels good that you are helping a small local business. The staff was friendly and it was all very quick. People might not want to come here because it looks old the same as the restaurant that was there before. I guess they could paint the wooden panelling but honestly just give it a chance because the food is great and authentic. Everyone who likes Thai food should give this place a chance! I had the house special and my husband customised his. This dish was the best we had eaten. We frequent the Vietnamese restaurant on Spadina and Dundas in Toronto as well as some in London and downtown Hamilton. The second time we went (as our daugther studies in McMaster) I had the beef noodle soup and it was the best I have tried! My husband had his usual. Now the third time I tried their shrimp pad thai. I have been to this restaurant multiple times since it opened. The atmosphere is great. Very casual and family friendly. The owner takes the time to talk to you and actually find out your opinion about the food. The portions are really good (two of us ate the dinner for 2 over two days!) and the food is very flavorful. I loved the chicken with pineapple, and the fried filled wontons are the best! Their spring rolls stand out as well. They are different from anywhere else i've had them and taste great.
