For someone who visits Hamilton often to visit a family member (who's appetite is limited to…read moreVietnamese food), we visited many places within the city to try out the cuisine. After some time, we narrowed it down to Pho Nhung and for over a year, it's been a weekly visit since we got the stamp of approval from our family member. It's truly the best spot for Vietnamese food in the city. Our usual order consists of bun bo hue, pho dac biet, bun cha and chao long. The BBH is so flavourful here and packed with toppings. Pho broth is always piping hot and chao long is not a common dish found in Vietnamese restaurants. The only feedback I would share is that the springs rolls are heavily packed with taro and the quay (from the congee) is not necessarily the freshest. The service is great here and they treat us well as we frequent them weekly. Highly recommend visiting.

My bill was $36.15 CAD. I paid with a $100 USD bill, and I was initially given only $71 CAD back. I had to go back inside twice just to get what I was told was the correct change. After doing the math again myself, I realized I was still short $18.25 CAD. At that point, I went next door to TD Bank to verify the exchange rate and make sure I wasn't misunderstanding the conversion. The bank confirmed that the amount I was given was not correct and that I was being shorted money. I went back to the restaurant, explained the situation, and thankfully, the lady eventually gave me my original $100 USD back. I went to the bank, got the exact Canadian amount I needed, and returned to pay my bill. What makes this especially disappointing is that the food was actually good, and the atmosphere was nice. I would have gladly left a positive review based on those things alone. But when you're visiting a business and have to go to a bank next door just to verify whether you're being given the correct change, it completely destroys the trust and the experience. Mistakes happen, but having to go back multiple times and then discovering that I was still short nearly $20 CAD is extremely frustrating. The dishonesty--or at the very least the lack of transparency--left a really bad impression. It's unfortunate because this could have been a great experience. Instead, the way the payment was handled is the part I'll remember most.

The room is fine. Again adequate without being spectacular. Lastly, we had enough to carry next days lunch away.

The restaurant is nicely decorated, and within five minutes it was completely full. My dad ordered the specialty beef bone rice noodle soup. A second bowl came out just for the bone--holy moly! His only complaint was the noodles; he didn't care for the wide noodles. My sister got the bún bò Huế. The broth was excellent and approved by my parents, and it came with a generous amount of meat. My mom ordered bún cá and really enjoyed her meal. Each soup-based dish came with a plate of fresh vegetables. I ordered the grilled specialty platter. It was a lot of food, but everything was delicious. I also tried the salted iced coffee, which was just okay. They accept cash or debit only. The egg rolls was a bit of a let down, and it was too dry (appeared it was pre-fried, and when you order it they throw it back in the fryer to reheat). The Pho was flavorful but they overlooked our request for the beef on the side. They do offer traditional Vietnamese dinner, but it can be a hit or miss (their sour soup was a hit but their Beef Cubes on Iron Platter wasn't our favorite). **Covid takeout review - April 2021**…read more After a year of not having pho, I finally caved in and ordered takeout. Pho is usually a sit-down, dine-in experience with the large soupy bowl of noodles, so I was hesitant on ordering takeout. To my surprise, my at-home pho experience was amazing! I order a large, house special pho and I think the portion is bigger than if I dined in (how is that even possible?). For $11, there was enough food for my dinner and next day's lunch. The noodles, meatballs, tripe, beef tendons, basil leaves and bean sprouts came in a large square foam container, while the soup filled up an entire tall styrofoam container. The soup was flavourful, the food was cooked to order and I have since made it my once-a-week treat for myself. I've also order the vermicelli noodles with grilled chicken (or pork) which comes with 2 super crunchy and hot spring rolls (one vegetable, one pork). My husband enjoyed the fried rice (it's sweet and I think there's some fish sauce in it) with lemongrass grilled pork. I'm fortunate that Pho Ao Sen is just up the street from my place. It's given me something to look forward to every week during this gloomy lockdown.
