be careful! Madden's door and son was sold to GDI. You will not get the same service or price that you did when you dealt directly with Madden. For years, we Madden since the service was incredible as well as the price. Our garage door needed fixing and we called Madden and they sent out somebody from GDI. The price was exorbitant and way above what we would've paid at Madden or any of the competitors. So beware, get a quote before you have them do any work and compare it to the competitors. They came out yesterday and replaced my springs again. Same great service. Only difference was the price more than tripled since I last saw them in 2021. Had our garage door replaced in May 2018 & they did an excellent job. We knew going in that our motor was the original (circa 1989-1991 era) but since there was no immediate need to replace, we elected to leave it. Well, it began it's slow decline this year & today we just had the motor replaced by the 'one & only Kris'!!! Honestly, I had no idea how wonderful the new products were & so I know we should have had it replaced sooner. Kris is one of those high end, leave no detail out, pleasant, experienced & professional kind of people & something tells me that is how he is in every interaction he has. He was fantastic!!! They did a very good job. I called to make an appointment. They answered the phone and scheduled an appointment in the next three days to accommodate my schedule. On the day of the appointment, someone called to cancel. They said their technician was tied up on another job. So they offered to come by the next day. The next day, the technician showed up and installed a new garage door opener. He showed me how to use it. Very nicely done. I'm taking one star off because they cancelled the original day. It's very inconvenient when you sacrifice one day to get something done, only to have a contractor cancel out on you. In any case, I would recommend them. read more

Madden installed the garage door of the house we moved into. When we first moved into the house, the garage door didn't work because the spring was broken and some bolts were falling out. We worked with another company to fix the spring because they were able to come out immediately. Months later, we are still having problems with bolts falling out, so figured we call Madden since they originally installed the door and hoped there was some sort of warranty. When we called they couldn't confirm when the door was installed because their "records only go back to the most recent two years". Idk what company disposes of all records after two years, but moving on. They then proceeded to cancel coming out to check on the door 3x. Hired Scott/Madden about a year ago to install an aluminum, glass paned door on our two car garage in Berkeley. It's an absolute beauty, and the price was very reasonable. A year later, it still functions perfectly, with no hitches. The most noteworthy part of the experience, though, was Scott's help in designing a solution for our VERY low garage ceiling height. It previously had a barn door style garage, and was not configured to hold an overhead. Scott went into his laboratory and came up with a great solution, instead of passing on the job or stalling on a tricky project, which many contractors will do. We needed a new garage door for a couple years. During this stay at home time I decided to get started looking. I new I didn't want the basic type door. My garage takes up a large portion of the front of my house. I left a message and got a return call within an hour. I explained that I liked the carriage styles. He had me take a photo of front of my house and he was able to send my photos back with the three doors I chose. I loved them and he came out later that day and I ordered the one I liked best. 3 weeks later my door came in and was installed on Monday. Quick, easy and painless! Called them early Monday and set an appointment for Tuesday to fix a problem garage door. They called a few hours later and said they had an opening! Fantastic. It has been noted that with a recent experience, they gave us an option when the old spring broke " do we want the spring on same other door replaced as well?" We used Madden to replace our old garage door and update it to something more modern. We worked with Scott who was extremely knowledgeable on what we were looking for. Aside from a mock-up, he also came out to measure and go over install details which was very helpful. I contacted the company Monday morning, and a very pleasant lady answered the phone. She was able to answer my questions on getting a new garage door opener, as the one I had was quite old. She was able to get a technician out within 3 hrs. Rob was the technician who came out, and he was on time and fully masked due to Covid. He was extremely professional. It took him a little less than 90 mins to install the new garage door opener, as well as the exterior keyless entry pad, and make other minor adjustments as needed. When he was done, he went over in detail the deluxe custom keypad and the various menu options, he showed me where to find things on the garage door opener, and ensured both transmitters, and exterior keypad worked flawlessly. I was totally impressed by his work. Hopefully, I won't need another garage door opener anytime soon, but if I do, I know who to call, and I know if I'm ask, who I would recommend. read more

Garage door stuck open - I have successfully adjusted the alignment in the past but not this time. Called Madden this morning, Chris came by before lunch and corrected the alignment and showed me how to do it in the future, he tuned up the door with oil and some other small adjustments. We called Madden because we thought there was something wrong with the garage door when we opened it because there was a loud clanking noise. Madden came out and immediate said everything looked fine, nothing wrong but since we came out you have to pay the entire $175 for their time. I'm happy to pay for a service call but if I were the owner of Madden I may have said since there is nothing wrong and I spent all of 5 minutes I'll charge you $100. Spraying some silicone spray around the door because you wanted to do "something" really wasn't service. Disappointed for a family owned business. read more

Our spring broke and we had called Madden on the Sunday over the Christmas weekend and found that they were closed until Tuesday morning. I left a message with them. I got a call from them on Tuesday first thing, however I had already scheduled an appointment with a competitor. The competitor showed up, and very quickly began upselling - stating that brackets, rollers, torsion tubes - the whole system would need to be replaced at a cost of just over $2000. Keep in mind that we have not had any indication that there was a problem with the door or mechanism- no loud noises, pops or creaks. We declined the first company, paid for service call ($49) and called Madden to come out. Rob called before arriving, showed up on time, inspected the problem and replaced the broken spring and second spring in around 30 minutes. He inspected and lubed the mechanisms for a grand total of just over $600. Big Difference in companies. I feel like some companies know they have you over a barrel because you have to be able to get your car in or out or your garage and that Madden/Rob completed the service for a fair price. We will continue to use Madden going forward from here! read more

I didn't realize how exciting garage doors could be until completing our project with Scott @ Madden Doors. Our needs were a bit complicated given the sun exposure and proximity to a golf course (errant golf balls) and he worked with us extensively to determine the right materials for our doors to guarantee a long life! Horrible customer service experience. So much for trying to do business with a local, family company. They hung up on me because apparently Friday afternoon "isn't a good time to deal with my stuff." Our garage door was sticking and we had a tech come out twice before he realized we needed a whole new motor (which was installed on the third visit.) We were charged $145 for the unsuccessful attempt to reconnect the faulty motor just because "the tech came out" and whether the fix worked or not "was not Madden's problem." I did not realize I would be paying for their time regardless of the result. Buyer beware. read more

When Madden's Scott O'Neill suggested I get a better, more expensive door for my garage than the one I requested a quotation on, I thought, here we go, the guy can't help up-selling me - who needs it? I heard him out, though, and I'm glad I did. Scott reasonably explained that while a cheap door would close my garage, a better door would last longer and look better. After hearing stories of door woes from inlaws with cheap-as-dirt steel doors, I'm glad I listed to Scott and got a double-wall, insulated door. It feels substantial and wasn't a lot more money.
