I have been dying to go to Mad & Kaffe (literally translates to Food & Coffee) since I got to Copenhagen. I finally got to try it on my last day, at the Frederiksberg location, that just recently opened up. The other two locations are always busy, but because this location is still very new, we were able to get seated at the busiest brunch time, at 10:30am.
There are menus and pencils at the entrance, and there are options of doing a 3-course, 5-course, or 7-course meal. You check off what you want, from a range of greens, dairy, bakery, meat & fish, and treat of the day.
My family and I decided to each choose 3 items, for 89kr ($13). The 5 item choice is 129kr ($20), and the 7 item is 154 ($24). The server takes your drink order.
Food:
Avocado with Beetroot Hummus: the hummus was amazing and very aesthetic. My sister hates beets, but she said it was one of the best hummus she's ever tried.
Blueberry Yoghurt with Musli and Berries: Musli is like a granola that European people eat like a cereal, so it's not overly sweet. The yogurt was very good, and the combination was very nice.
Homemade Cream Cheese with Sourdough: The cream cheese was so so so good. It was like a whipped cream cheese, and my sister pointed out that it tasted like pickles - which sounds really weird, but it was amazing.
Scrambled Eggs with chives & mushrooms: Soft scrambled. Not much taste.
2 Organic Fried Eggs with Chives: Again, not much taste, but good nonetheless.
Fried Chorizo with BBQ Ketchup: SO delicious. Europeans take their sausages very seriously, so any sausage you get in Denmark will probably be very good. I'm not a big fan of ketchup, but this BBQ ketchup was so good with the chorizo.
Smoked Salmon: Really good, but nothing special.
Chia Buttermilk Pudding: Super delicious. Not too sweet because it's made with buttermilk, and the sweet biscuits and berries complemented the flavors a lot.
Drink:
Carrot Apple Ginger Juice - 37kr ($6) for a small. My dad ordered this, and it was very good - very gingery taste. I would never order it for myself, but I ended up drinking like half of it. read more
